    Pennsylvania public land is a giant playground, so vast, unlike 30 years ago, now there are some good bucks all over the state, a hang & hunt paradise. We are lucky to be around in this era.

      Pa is very underrated for big mature bucks, especially in and around the Allegheny National Forest. Some of the biggest bucks we mount have come from there!

      I bought a camp in Clarion in 2003 and we’ve taken at least one 140” buck every year accept for one. There is no shortage of mature buck in the PA mountains. I got my best ever buck (158”) back in 2019, 2.25 miles deep into the woods. Rattled him in on November 4th. Saw over 15 legal buck that day. We have about 2,000 acres of public directly behind the camp that is almost untouched by other hunters. The nearest public access is 4 miles away. It’s almost like we have a thousand acres to ourselves. It’s a bowhunters paradise. This year, I’m focusing on an area about 1.5 miles in. Rushes and funnels loaded with big rubs and sign. I can just tell it’s going to be an area where you can see 30 deer on a nice day. Can’t wait to head up to camp for my 3 week vacation at the end of October. 20 straight days in the stand, but I’m hoping on only needing 4 or 5!

      @@jimlahey3919 Jim, this is the best comment in all my years of UA-cam! I love the improvement in the quality of the hunting in Pennsylvania & sometimes miss the comradery of hunting with other serious bowhunters. I hunt the eastern shore of MD now, which has been good to me, private land and tough to beat--- but Nothing beats the scenario you described, it's a piece of heaven, still a grind and challenge but the big bucks exist now, where in the 1980's and before (I grew up hunting the PA mountains), we had plenty of deer numbers, but unbelievable pressure and poor management. PA is beautiful. Thank you for this post!! Enjoyed reading it immensely!

    Hunt in the high ground at daylight and valleys drainage in the evening. Hot weather hunt shading side if possible, opposite side in cold especially if the sun is shining. Works about anywhere it’s not flat lol.

      There is a little more to it than that. Cloud cover, tree canopy, water, shade all play a role.

    When it’s really cold in the morning in November bucks seem to cruise low even until 9 am on a west facing slope. I set up higher than the cruise line last year thinking with the west wind I’d be safe. Well the east side of the hill heated up and all that wind was coming down the hill on the west side. Needless to say I got busted bad. Lesson learned. Cold mornings I’m hunting low until atleast 10 am on a west facing slope.

    With the spot you were talking about at the end of the video…your plan was to hunt above the trail because of rising thermals during the day but you talked about accessing from below when the thermals were still dropping. Wouldn’t you have to cross the deer trail to get set up in this situation?

    So do you think bucks will bed on a hillside on the "wrong" wind if it's cover based like you mentioned at the first bed you showed here?

    what benefit do you find with spartan forge over OnX or have you never used OnX? i havent used spartan im jw if its better or if its all similar really.

    • @BeauMartonik
      @BeauMartonik  Рік тому +3

      I used onX for many years, and it's not a bad app. Spartan Forge is much easier to use with less buttons to get the job done, really good aerial imagery, LiDAR mapping, more accurate slope angle, really nice weather data, and their deer intel prediction that is based off actual data (not someone's opinion). Lastly, it's only $32/year if you use code eastmeetswest for the entire United States.
