I was lucky enough to get mine today and I have to say... the noise that the car makes is just out of this world. You can barely hear it here... the video falls flat by a long shot. Also, this car is extremely drivable when it comes down to "every day use". All the electronics work (which is a first for me. My 599 can't even handle my iPod 90% of the time). This is just tremendously ridiculously awesome! Ferrari KILLED IT!
I saw one of these yesterday leaving Denton, Texas, of all places. It looked amazing but the sound as it merged onto I-35S will be in my memory for all time. It's almost as badass as my 2007 Ford Escape 4-cylinder.
this is one of my favorite 2nd ferrari 458 italia best car ever in my life because people trying to argue with a pricy car that they dont know what there saying
The huracan, all the mclaren cars, porsche 911 turbo s, etc... are indeed faster and have better performances than the 458, but in terms of fun, the 458 wins.
I couldn’t agree more. As a VWG fan, I always thought and think Porsche has the best tech in the world and as a person who owns a Panamera 971 4S and failed to persuade his father not to buy the 458 and instead go for the Huracan cos it’s faster (Nür Nordschlife Laptime - altho that’s the Performante) but now I finally get y people say ‘Ferraris Ferraris’ and y Ferrari ppl say ‘458s 458s’
Jamie is incorrect in saying that the dampers are adjustable on the manettino (3:50). The manettino only adjusts the transmission and traction control. The seperate suspension "Shumacher" button is the only thing that changes the suspension setting. I stand corrected.
On the 458 Italia the E-Diff 3 and F1-Trac control software are integrated in the same ECU. This minimises communication times between the two systems. Compared to previous versions, E-Diff 3 delivers improved torque distribution coming out of corners, which translates into improved grip, better roadholding and more progressive handling on the limit. The result is an improvement of 32 percent in longitudinal acceleration out of corners compared to previous models
I had the amazing opportunity to drive one this weekend, and WOW, its better than you can imagine. Better than reviews make it sound as well. Too bad it was only 10 minutes, hope to drive it again someday!
Technical development of the cars shaped started using CFD (Computational Fluid-Dynamic) techniques which helped optimise the management and interaction of the internal flows prior to wind tunnel testing. The final solution chosen ensured adequate cooling to the running gear, while, at the same time, achieving a high level of aerodynamic efficiency (1.09) through excellent drag and downforce figures (Cd 0.33 and Cl 0.36 respectively), no less than 360 kg of downforce at top speed.
The 458 Italia also features the latest, second-generation Magnetorheological Suspension Control shock absorber system. Compared to the system first introduced on the 599 GTB Fiorano, SCM2 boasts an evolved ECU (-50 per cent input time) and a damper force generation time of 8 ms compared to the 599s 15 ms. There is also a new piston rod bushing in the damper which reduces internal friction (-35 per cent) for more precise small-bump control and improved ride comfort.
@MRBMW10 Yes, this car IS faster than 430 scuderia. The 430 S is about 1 second slower than 458 on the fiorano track. (i'm just waiting for the version without air restrictors in the engine, it should have more than 600 bhp)
The 458 Italia is standard equipped with the best Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes: 6-pot aluminium callipers with 398 x 223 x 36 mm discs at the front, and 4-pot aluminium callipers with 360 x 233 x 32 mm discs at the rear. The 458 Italia boasts outstanding braking distances thanks to the development and optimisation of Bosch control logic and Ferraris Pre-Fillogic, which reduces response times by activating the pistons in the callipers.
This car looks so good, several notches higher than the 430 and 360, and easily on par with the Gallardo in terms of flash. The photos circulating the web don't do it justice. Can't wait to see what the spyder looks like.
@GiaiJ1 I disagree on Slr, which is a mclaren so also a premium sportscar and ultimate offroader is and always will be the range rover, not hummer h1. H1 is just a commercialized army vehicle.
For me 458 Italia respresents everything that makes Ferrari great. The looks, the power, the noise, the excitement... its just an awesome machine. MP4-12C may be faster, but if it was my money... 458 Italia every time.
Ferraris has been getting 118hp per liter since 1995. Hondas in japan use different fuel therefor different tuning so 458 in japan get more then 126.667hp per liter. Also Honda use a inline 4 cylender motor witch is easy to rev at high rpm and get 120hp per liter. The cam gear are aligne with crankshaft easy to get right timing
458 as variable valve timing on intake and exhaust side, and a dual plenum intake manifold whose central section as three pneumatic throttle valve that open and close at varying time to effect the inlet air desired.
458 Italy now is the definitive sports car. It is not just performance, or high-technology infused in this car, it's a question of charisma, emotion, adrenaline, excitement, history, blazon, style, sound, feeling with the steering. And this machine embodies all these elements. But the beauty of this car is his versatility, thanks to manettino and magnetorheological suspensions you can have the comfort of a grand tourer in bumpy road or switch to a set-up for the track without electronic aids.
@uteropo. Formula One cars use semi-automatic sequential gearboxes with seven forward gears and one reverse gear. The driver initiates gear changes using paddles mounted on the back of the steering wheel and electro-hydraulics perform the actual change as well as throttle control. Clutch control is also performed electro-hydraulically except from and to a standstill when the driver must operate the clutch using a lever mounted on the back of the steering wheel.
Some rumors say that the F70 will be the spiritual heir of the legendary F40 (which had a V8 159cv / l in 1987), with a twin turbo V8 engine 4-4.5L, 800 + hp. Probably will adopt the Multiair technology with electro-hydraulic variable valve actuation
The 458 Italias front suspension employs a novel new double wishbone set-up which features an L-shape design for the lower wishbone. Thanks to the new rear multi-link suspension overall vertical rigidity has thus been improved (+35 per cent with respect to the F430) for less body roll, and the engineers were able to introduce a more direct steering ratio (11.9° compared to the F430s 16.9°) which makes for quicker and more responsive steering on both road and track.
Yeah and in Singapore you can't do anything except drive in the city as well. IF you want to take your super car out to malaysia, you have to apply for a visa three days before, because of the car's width
What a master peace from blistering gear change to 126hp per liter and 88lbs/ftq per liter from a V8, and 800lbs of down force(at top speed) with out a spoiler and still manage a 0.33 coefician of drag. E-diff3 and F1 track run by one ECU. Ferrari way head of compediteur.
Also ferraris are hand crafted from ground up and they do all that in one factory, they resive raw material and 3 month later the car is complite.they're is a few robot at Ferrari factory, they go true intense inpection and if they don't meet Ferrari standar(witch is no flaw) is back to squar one. QUALITY!!
Wow with that kind of compresion ratio and a redline @9000rpm can't wait to hear it with a capristo stage3 exhaust system. F1 sound for street for sure.
@karjohden i don't know if you've ever played the game fifa 10 for xbox, but there's a special team that has all the best players of the world on one team. that's what i feel ferrari is, the best ingredients coming together into one car, completely dominating all. no car is as engineered as a ferrari while still retaining a sense of passion.
I think Ferrari have excelled themselves with this car just when you might have thought they had developed the V8 mid engine layout to it's ultimate form in the F430 they come up with this. It's looks simply stunning, and technically it is quite incredible 1380kg, 4.5ltr V8 560hp @9000RPM ......Wow
The modular chassis is an all-new design. New alloys join the traditional aluminium, along with high-resistance aluminium extrusions, developed by the aerospace industry, and innovative manufacturing processes, such as heat-forming. The aim was to keep weight down to the benefit of performance and handling. The result is a chassis with improved structural rigidity, with torsional rigidity up 15 per cent compared to the F430, and beam stiffness up 5 per cent.
@sw1000xg. The reason why the 458 is way faster then GTR is because: power to weight ratio and, actual amount of power deliverd at wheels for example the powertrain loss for a GTR is in the 15+%( because it has a AWD system it is call rotation mass). A 458 powertrain loss is more like lower then 10% as it as less drivetrain rotation( 2 rear wheel drive and engine in back)the engine as less tq but the hole car as more tq them GTR.
Bike engines of similar cylinder sizes (around 550cc per cylinder) produces over 150hp/litre. So it would not be difficult for any manufakturer to increase the power a fair bit more, but you would then lose low and midrange power.
@madmanjoe Look the specs up again: Ferrari's ultimate effort-to-date (your Enzo) is outmatched in virtually every measure of performance by the Veyron. It's also bested in real world track-tests (including the Top Gear track, which is essentially all-turns having only a single clipped-short straight-away). It does this weighing over 1,100 lbs. more (largely due to an extravagant interior to match any Rolls whereas the Enzo's is literally bested by a Corolla: no carpets and roll-up windows).
A good manual transmission is faster than an automatic transmission in a track, but is slower than a sequential, not to mention the double clutch. The gear shifting time is zero and thus there is no interruption of engine torque to the driven wheels. Compared to the California gearbox, response times have been reduced and the 458 Italy has specific, sportier gear ratios to match the power and torque curves of the new V8, guaranteeing high torque even at lower revs.
That Ferrari is able to design such a car around very sophisticated technology is a real tribute to the brand. The innovative techniques to deliver air to the engine and brakes while compensating for front fender lift is very impressive. Let's see American cars produce 500bhp from a 4.5 litre (about 289 cu in) engine.
Those inlet tracts are short and straight just like a race car. Also torque and torque curve as been further enhanched by split injection , a secondary fuel pulse at WOT. Because of all that the 458 makes 20% more torque then 430 and as a wider torque range true all RPM speed.
@halimtroll. The Ferrari team has achieved unparalleled success in Formula One. The Italian team has the unique distinction of owning nearly all significant records Most constructor championships: 16 Most driver championships: 15 Most Grands Prix started (all-time): 793 Most wins (all-time): 210 Most wins (season): 15 (shared with McLaren) Most podiums (all-time): 628 Most podiums (season): 29 Most one-two finishes (all-time): 79 Most pole positions (all-time): 203
FYI 360 CS as a better power to weigh ratio then a GTR better yet better power to weight ratio when power measure at wheels that mean it will be faster in a straight and be just as fast at track. 360 SC 8 year old
@robotecha5 I understand but with twin-clutch the performance gain is so much that they would be two seperate cars. Twin clutch is worth the sacrifice beleive me.
The GTR is only 80000$ for a reason. The motor is not more advence then a Ferrari 360 Modena. They use the 3800lbs of the car to get better tire load and make it more stable at high speed corner. They give it AWD for low speed corner that is technology that as been used for YEARS.
he just clipped the apices of the chicanes and curves... in other words, he taking racing lines on the street. from what I see, he can drive pretty well...
(continued) Let me be clearer: The Veyron has sound and weather-insulation (both world-class while the Enzo has literally none--don't drive it in the hear or cold), it also has climate-control (Enzo took that out) a $35k stereo (Enzo doesn't even have a radio) leather and gilt on every surface, adjustable and heated seats, full instrument cluster, navigation, bluetooth, iPod interface, back-up camera, parking sensors and moon roof. It's unheard-of: it performs w/o shedding weight.
I was lucky enough to get mine today and I have to say... the noise that the car makes is just out of this world. You can barely hear it here... the video falls flat by a long shot. Observe from 3.03 to 3.13. The car sticks to the wet road like magnet! Just look how composed and planted it seems during that time. Epic car.
this is the most beautiful thing ever made by a mankind....
Beautiful and the fit and finish and handling look spectacular.
One again Ferrari has improved upon perfection.
Honestly I think this might be the greatest car ever made, so beautiful and so fast
this has to be the best video review of this car on youtube; what a sublime car!
My neighbor just got one of these. I was about to cry when I saw it. Can't wait for a ride.
I saw one of these go down the road!!! They are BEAST!!!
this is one of my favorite 2nd ferrari 458 italia best car ever in my life because people trying to argue with a pricy car that they dont know what there saying
just the sound of that, the acceleration with the 4.5 litre engine must feel absolutely fantastic
Absolutely love the three-port exhaust! Looks insane!
Dang, the sound just aah... simply fantastic that it rings my heart & pump my adrenalin by just the sound of the revving engine!!!!
Gorgeous!
15 years later and it’s still absolutely, unbelievably, mesmerizingly, brilliant!
still my fav 458 review
how awesome is that interior !
The huracan, all the mclaren cars, porsche 911 turbo s, etc... are indeed faster and have better performances than the 458, but in terms of fun, the 458 wins.

LOL! this guy now works for mclaren!! He should look back to his old opinions about ferraris! ;)
?
What a well sculpted work of art - it's just incredible!
simply beautiful
Wow that sound is addictive!
belleza perfecta

I can't think of a word to describe this car it is amazing and everything a Ferrari should be!!!!!!!!
what a beauty, what a work of art, a masterpiece.
i have to admit i wasnt sure when i first saw the concept designs for this car, but seeing it now, just takes your breath away.

loving my 458 live in london had to pick it up 200 miles away was a dream to drive on motorway not the norm supercar feel for a long drive
E-diff is a limitied slip differential but it is not just mechanical it is also govern by a ECU. Therefor electric differential.

Gosh I can't wait to get mine!
Wow. Just wow. This car's design is just stunning and way better than all previous Ferrari design's (to my taste)
New lap record for Ferrari 458 in Vairano track:
1.15:146 - Ferrari 458 Italia (Michelin Pilot Sport)
1.15:375 - Ferrari 430 Scuderia (Alain Prost)
1.15:528 - Porsche 997 GT2 (Alain Prost)
1.15:714 - Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 (Alain Prost)
1.17:065 - Mercedes SLS AMG (Continental ContiSportContact)

Wow, saw this at the paddock Hockenheim - great design...
looks stunning in the sun
@Cayo255 whats wrong with the enzo, its 10 years old now and looks like it couldn't be built for another 50 years. beautiful.
@sw1000xg
pretty sure a GTR is a lot heavier than the both of them, the 458 is rear wheel drive also. That should help

@alphaswimmer55 Not true. The F60 is the F1 car Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa raced in the 2009 season. The Enzo is just the Enzo.
You cant make wheels out of magnesium.. You can mix aluminium with magnesium if you want a slightley lighter rim... As BMW did with the CSL-wheels..
@MrByronpendleton
I agree with you about the 430 Scuderia, but the 599 GTO is quite hardcore enough for me.
@ZenGuy12
Only the big Ferraris get V12s.
The small "entry-level" mid engined Ferraris have used V8s since the 70s.
@madmanjoe Look the specs up again: Ferrari's ultimate effort-to-date (your Enzo) is outmatched in virtually every measure of performance by the Veyron. So excited I get to ride in one of these pretty soon.
Those inlet tracts are short and straight just like a race car. Also torque and torque curve as been further enhanched by split injection , a secondary fuel pulse at WOT. Because of all that the 458 makes 20% more torque then 430 and as a wider torque range true all RPM speed.
to be honest, i didn't like the way the italia looked at first, but it grew on me! it seems like what a true ferrari should be.
wow, Ferrari is just amazing. They totally destroy the competition with this new 458 Italia, it is so beautiful!
@EnzoF288 it has a steering shifter.
i saw one of these at the detroit international autoshow...it was yellow and it is amazing in person
Nobody builds cars like Ferrari. This one is simply magnificent.

@KPKonliner that engine sound is amasing one of the best and non of thats cheap
@JayRicci7891 You got one thing wrong there. It's not noise, it's music.
BEAUTIFUL car!! If only Italy's cruise ship captains and football teams had half as much integrity as their car makers, it would be glorious!
You know how much this 458 costs in Indonesia?
$800000. And that DOESN'T include road tax (around $2500). And yearly tax (around $2500).
In Poland it is around 250-300k. In Singapore cars are the most expensive in the world... I have no clue why.
FYI 360 CS as a better power to weigh ratio then a GTR better yet better power to weight ratio when power measure at wheels that mean it will be faster in a straight and be just as fast at track. 360 SC 8 year old
This is the first Ferrari that makes my inside tingle :)
@robotecha5
I understand but with twin-clutch the performance gain is so much that they would be two seperate cars.
Show us the race. The one on UA-cam shows the Ultima with a giant wing running a 1.12 or something. Let's see it.
he just clipped the apices of the chicanes and curves... in other words, he taking racing lines on the street. from what I see, he can drive pretty well...
Wonderful, wonderful car. First Ferrari I have truly liked since the F40.

looks brilliant cant wait till top gear test it
