LOL - I've raced Summit Point a number of times - always wondered what the gun shots were about.
Still love my Army sock lined with panty hose and silicon bead fill as my rear bag. The Crosstac looks nice though.
Hi gary. I am designing a new model of a rear bag that is actually adjustable and not kind of adjustable i mean adjustable. And i need that to hit the market quick. To which company would u recommend to sell that idea? And it can be called 5 in 1 or any number of adjustments that anyone would like. I really think that this idea is going to eliminate alot of the issues with the butstock bags. Its going to work especially good with the adjustable bag rider. It will still remain 1 piece so it will eliminate the problem of having to carry 2 or 3 or even more bags. And it will still remain lightweight with a big company owning it they would have the option if it being a heavy bag or a light bag customer's choice.
Thank you, I had bags never knew how to use them.
One of the best videos I've seen on bags. Thanks for the effort. Excellent content.
I use several bags, im gonna say this even though ya'll poopoo on everyone that says this, but i run a heavy wool sock with airsoft bbs and that works great for my squeeze bag for my left hand. Just my two cents! Love the channel, watch every show. Great content sir
@@larryblair4765 no pooing on anyone. I just haven’t found, seen, or personally made a homemade bag that works as good as these. There are definitely commercial bags that don’t work as good as some homemade bags but there are commercially made bags that work better than any homemade bag.
Thanks for watching.
-Gary
@paramounttactical I actually ordered the bags u suggested sir, will give them a fair shake. I've used triad tactical bags and a few others and do like the more solid feel. Man I wish ya'll was alot closer to Oklahoma! I'd absolutely take your course. I'm a shooter, nothing spectacular. Just steel plates. Would love to learn to be more proficient out to long distances.
Good stuff. At the 19:40-19:45 point in this video, that's an impressive steady hold at 36×, especially considering you are also freezing your !@#$%*! off. I will be ordering a bag with that new outer that I've never seen before. Thanks for getting this video up.
As usual, a well done video!...I noticed that you did not mention or show the use of a "Fat Bag" (the really xxxl rear bags) that PRS shooters use to support elbow-forearm shooting positions. They usually have a long carrying strap. Do you like and use one of these?
Those are positional shooting bags. Yes I like, use, and we carry them at the store. I put a video card in the video on them but here’s a link. Pinky swear you’ll watch every second of every video and look out for video cards in the top right corner from now on. 😂

As I have started getting into shooting distance your vids have become such a giant help thank you so much
I’m in the same boat. And I can tell you nothing helps more than going to one of Paramount’s training courses. I took the Long Range lvl 1 last year and I’m going back for four more courses in a couple of months. It is well worth the trip/ money
This was a very helpful video. I basically agree with everything you said here. I am familiar with Tab gear but didn't see bags from the other company before. When i go to the field or range i take several bag weights, shapes and sizes with me. Being able to squeeze the bags are critical for fine tuning the cross hair on the target. My advice is to buy many (at least 3 different ones) bag sizes and shapes as they all have different roles. The light weight bags are ideal for hunting and backpacking, where weight is critical. The heavy ones are ideal for heavy rifles and when weight isn't an issue. I have also used my binoculats and my kifaru ditty bags from my backpack. For quick and dirty fast and medium range shots, your hand can be adequate especially when hunting and an animal is walking.
Keep up the great content and educational vids. I see you are doing a shooting course with x ring which should be top shelf. Your accutac bipod is an amazing product also. Thanks.
I have an Armageddon squishy bag. Works great on bench. Too small for prone. Looking for something similar but 2-3” larger.
Awesome video and very helpful information. After watching this video I realized I was using a bag completely wrong.
Going be picking up a new bag soon. Have you tried the MDT line of bags? And are those shooting mats bigger than the one we used last year firing the Lvl 1 course?
Thank you for this professional grade video on shooting bags. I wish I could have learned this rear bag technic 22 years ago.
I just bought a bag that doesn't look anywhere as good as these. Im looking at that xxl crosstac now. Thx for the tips, i just mounted a scope and didnt use my laser plumb level and flashlight this time, lol.
Its a bit different than iron sights at 300m and a green silhouette.
Love the simple and easy to understand instruction.
Great knowledge drop that helps me sort out what I've been researching. You sir have made this much easier for me, thank you!
Thanks I was looking for one before I start the spring season at the range.
How would you compare crosstac XXL to Armageddon shmedium that every one on reddit recommends?
Well we sell and use the Game Changer Shmediums. They’re great positional shooting bags, probably the best all rounder. So it’s a great positional shooting bag but only a decent rear bag IMO. The Crosstac XXL is a better rear bag. Every LR shooter should own both. No bag is going to need perfect in every situation. I have like 4-5 bags that I use regularly depending on the circumstances.
You wouldn’t approach golf saying “what’s the best club if I only bought one?”. Just buy both. You’ll use them both regularly.
@@paramounttactical Thank you for the response. I guess I'll go with crosstac since I will almost always shoot for the bench or prone.
Good stuff, Gary. I have to admit I have a bit of a bag problem. Posted a video a few weeks ago showing a quick look at the dozens of bags and packs I've acquired. Very long video and I left a lot out of it 🤣
I have a bag that I haul around all of my bags in! Trying to find the ones that suit me best and then knowing before the stage which one I need to use for that stage. Made a few wrong choices on last Sunday's match. Gonna practice more the next few weeks and try to be better at that for next month's match. I know what I did wrong now, so I should be able to correct it.
I like having an assortment of bags for all kinds of uses. If they exist, I am going to try them out and learn to be proficient with as many as possible. I am getting there!!
Have a great week, Gary!!
Another great video, I just grabbed another bag off the PTS website. Thanks Brother!
Whaaaat? They make mats with dowels sewn into them now?
Ugh
When I started LR shooting in 2014 I learned from prone (still prone) and would sew a dowel into my Tab Gear mat it was the only way I could figure out that would create resistance to load the rifle correctly
Fuuuuuuuk Me 😢😩😢😩
I still use the same mat w/the original dowel👍
But with a New MPA PMR Pro 2 6.5cm because of this channel
TY Gary for the time and effort it’s appreciated 🙏😎
Really impressive, thank you for this!
"Really cold, about 40°"😂😂
Jokes aside, thanks for the informative video. I was already looking at a crosstac bag. After watching this I plan on getting it.
My favourite is Cole-TAC Waxed Woogie bag
Your wireless mic did the job, Gary. The audio was great!
Yeah, the Rode Wireless Pro is phenomenal. It’s hard to tell from the video (luckily) but the wind was nuts. Twice I pulled a rifle off the mat and had to go chase it.
I also have the DJI Wireless mic II. It does a good job with the wind but the audio quality isn’t nearly as good.
See what you did?! You sucked me into a AV nerd conversation. 🤦♂️
Embarrassing.
@@paramounttactical No need to be embarrassed, we all need to nerd out once in a while. 😉
So this was shot with the Osmo Pocket 3 and the Rhode Wireless? Or did you use your big boy camera here?

@@foundationdefense5299 thank you sir!

I learned something, thanks!
I use an old tube sock in a Crown Royal bag filled with airsoft BBs.
I busted my Walmart one and put fill in a sock and been goin 2yrs
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for producing this video and sharing your experience… exactly what I was after.
Awesome video thanks for taking the time to make them.
Great video, thanks!
I never knew until now that adding water to your shooting bags is a good thing!
Most comprehensive rear bag rundown. Thanks
Got me shopping for squeeze bags, then I thought... normally I just use my left hand like a squeeze bag. Loosen fist or tighten fist as necessary to adjust elevation. I'm not sure if isolating the pulse in my hand by using a bag would offer more stability or not compared to a bag. I'll use a bag or bipod in the front.
You don’t know what you’re missing. Literally!
There’s no way you can be near as stable with your fists. You will notice the difference at 1000 yards. You must not have watched the whole video.
That was an outstanding video! I'm New to your channel and can't get enough. Thanks Gary you kick ass!
Thanks! Welcome to the Paramount Fam!

Great content! Do you have any videos using bags to zero pistol rds? Also which one would you recommend for that?
This is the best way to zero a handgun.
ua-cam.com/users/shortsXkurlkapCfk?si=8BRS8-HnS-rkVQUy
If I were to use a bag for zeroing it works be the Game Changer or Shmedium. Both on our site.
@@paramounttactical thank you!

Thank for this explanation but I have no finger on my right hand.is there a way I can control a rear or is there a bag for people like me
You have no fingers at all or are just missing one? We do use and sell adjustable bag riders which may be a better option for you.

A couple questions that you may want to know the answer to, to better assist your assessments.
1. Do you know who and why they coined and branded the phrase; "Conspiracy - Theorist?
2. Why does the USA/US have a President over a King/Queen, and what do we know a President is associated with?
3. Is DC part of the USA/US?
4. Why is a judges court room sovereign under different rules than the USA/US or the States they are in?
5. What is an Obelisk and what are it's two significant representations?
6. Why was the Trojan Horse, I mean, Statue of Liberty, placed at the main entrance of the USA/US from other countries?
7. Why is a Pyramid on the dollar bill, and what does that pyramid represent and where did that shape come from and why?
8. Where is the World Capital Located today?
9. What are the 3 Key Sovereign Empire City States, and what do they manage for the World Control?
10. Who is the Gray Pope and Grey Papal Bloodlines and what do they represent and why Gray?
11. Who is the Black Pope, what part does he play in the world control and when did that position open up?
12. What was the Rothschilds name, prior to taking over, as kind of the CFO's of the world, from the Medici Family, who took over for the Knights Templars...
I don't get caught up in the details they want the people/sheepal/chattel, to be caught up in, and I try to look at the clear facts. The clear fact to me, is that we live in a World of dynamic "constructs" that have been specifically designed to provide the "ILLUSION" of freedom and choice, while they maintain full control over everything. It's like a family of 5, you want that democratic system, but are you ever gonna to really let your 3 children outvote mom and dad? Ice cream for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? (which sadly ice cream is not different that most the things the Government calls food: like it's full of HFCS and so much other shit, that may be designed to limit the chattels life span, so it's not as costly when they stop producing.
Range and racetrack? Do they have any homes for sale nearby 😂😂
Uhh… you have to die to get here. There will be an attendant at the main entrance. You’ll see the pearly gates. He’ll have a list and if you’re on it you can come live here. If not, you have to go live 30 or so miles away in Maryland. 🤷♂️
NY, Mass, California, Washington DC, and Washington state are your other options. I sure hope you’re living right. 🙏
I’ve actually have thought about moving to the area. It is beautiful place.
Excellent share
How about letting the buttstock/bagrider slide straight back in the rear bag on recoil? Would not the grippy bag be a dissadvantage then?
If you’re shooting F Class or BR, they tend to do that. If youre shooting practical long range you should be loading your bipods and not letting the rifle recoil or at least mitigating it.
@@paramounttactical reason for me asking is that I follow mark&sam, and when they describe how they do it in tactical elr/ulr, they do that aswell. Maybe different schools that both do work.
Only in America can you build an empire building... bags of sand.
You obviously don’t know what you’re missing.
Pun not intended but also accurate.
@@markgunn-og8xb I own my share of 'em. Store bought and hand-made. We Americans will buy just about anything when it pertains to our hobby.
Thanks for the useful info, just subscribed to your channel 👍
Good vid. Have you ever or would you recommend refilling with rice? Sand?
This brings me back to the days before I bought the Alacritas Innovations folding rear support. I do not miss having to decide on which and how many of the multiple bags I needed to bring.
Just looked it up. It’s interesting but you’re not shooting PRS, NRL, different shooting positions, or hunting with that thing.
@paramounttactical I guess I don't see many bags used as rear bags in PRS or NRL matches in my area. Rarely see them used outside of belly or bench shooting.
@@tylerford88 plenty of PRS and NRL match COFs start with prone.
Fill a sock with sand….done.
Uh no. There’s a huge difference with the arts and crafts version vs a purpose built commercial option. Which is why you’ll never see competitors in any discipline using a homemade sand sock. But if it works for what you do, keep on keepin on.
He doesn’t know what he’s missing.
Pun not intended but accurate. 😂
Good video. I'm still using an old tube sock filled with dollar store rice. I like it better than the 2 bags I bought.
18:30 This is what I have issues with I always want to hold the riffle to ridgid and imput to much into it.
@@lancecockerell4345 you have to learn to relax behind the gun. If you’re providing muscular support, you’re gonna have a shaky sight picture.
When behind the rifle I might have 5% of my body weight or less supported by my elbows/arms. It takes some time finding the right relationship between bipod height, bag selection, and gun setup. Also ensuring you’re square behind the rifle and not having your body and shoulders uneven/angled in relation to the rifle.
@@paramounttactical I appreciate the guidance. Definitely be trying this next time out.
I never had a rear bag that ever fits right. All to big for me
I can’t think of how that’s possible. I’ve never seen a rifle that couldn’t use at least a size small rear bag.
@@paramounttactical the bag i was using was the smallest one i could get (tab) and every time i used it the mussel would be pointing into the ground
@@tomspettel3646 well then you either need to adjust your bipods higher or get new ones that can adjust higher. Unless I’m missing something, or unless you have some strangely oversized butt stock, if your rifle is as low to the ground as you’re describing it, there’s no way a normal sized person could get behind it properly.
I have a video on rifle setup and adjustment. I encourage you to watch it. I’ll link below.
How To Make Your Rifle More Accurate - Adjust The Gun To Fit Your Body
ua-cam.com/video/59qE5NMtUCY/v-deo.html
@@paramounttactical thats the problem im not normal sized im 6’8”
In the end i took the bi pod off and used my bag.
@@tomspettel3646 yeah man, that’s the problem. You have to get taller bipods. A big dude like you, you’re gonna have those bipods almost a foot off the ground. Maybe more. Get you some AccuTac PC5, or FC5 bipods and then you’ll be able to use a rear bag. I have several videos on bipods in general as well as specifically the AccuTac models and why we use and recommend them.
Fascinating use of sound Engineering principles.
Hey Gary are these bags in stock?
As of several hours ago, we are now out of stock on the Coyote Brown Crosstac XXL, but have a shipment on the way that we ordered a several days ago. Summer placed multiple additional orders this morning. We expect and hope to have them back in stock in a few days. Summer is also calling Crosstac tomorrow to verify shipment. So you’re welcome to wait or place a backorder.
We also understand no one likes to wait and sometimes the delivery dates we’re given from manufacturers and then pass to our customers ends up not panning out (my greatest frustration), so if you backorder and then decide to cancel due to a longer than expected wait, trust me… we get it, and take zero offense.
Either way, we appreciate the business and support.
-Gary & Summer

Pete, we have more on the way. Feel free to either wait for them to be back in stock, backorder, or source elsewhere. If you do place a backorder, we’ll work hard to get it to ASAP.
Thanks, Gary
I use a sock with airsoft bb's in it, works awesome and didnt cost me 70 bucks!
A) You’ll never see serious long range shooters using the homemade, arts and crafts version because there’s no comparison in performance.
B) None of these bags are $70
I'm heading out to test this week the use of lead shot in the rest. WAY more solid in bench testing and settles in better.
Well… yeah. Of course it is. But there’s a reason no one does that.
A) lead is poison.
B) no one like carrying a 15lbs bag.
What brand shooting mat is that?
www.paramounttactical.com/product/precision-long-range-shooting-mat/
if just shooting prone or on a bench does a mono pod have any merit?
Monopods are fine but something like a bag helps to dampen all the sympathetic movements of the body. I prefer bags every time. You can use an adjustable bag rider and then you get the benefits of both.,
@@paramounttactical thank you.
Surprised I never see the Armageddon X wing .
Armageddon X Wing is not really a rear bag. I’m an Armageddon dealer and love their bags but not a fan of the X Wing. There’s a reason you don’t see it mentioned hardly ever. All the things it tries to do, it does poorly… or at least a lot of bags do those specific tasks much better. If you used one of these bags as a rear bad next to the X Wing, you’d see the compromises you’re making with the X Wing.
