Great video. I learned a lot. Unfortunately, I purchased before I learned. I own two (2), not one MagPul bipods and one is MLok. I own an Atlas, because some on UA-cam said it was the best, but as you have pointed out, I have found it to be only marginally better than the MagPuls. I do have an Accu-Tac SR5, but for the type of shooting that I do it is too long. I also have the MDT GRND POD and it is really nice. Because of this video I have to decide between getting another Accu-Tac or a Ground Beast. The Protean Innovations is really cool, but just a little too much for the shooting I do. Again, great video and thank you for making it.

I was a long-time "Harris" guy who switched to Atlas, but now I think I'll be switching to the Thunder Beast Arms Bipod w/ the Arca attachment. The part of the video that sold me was the flex that you demonstrated with the Atlas bipods vs the TBAC bipods. Before I saw this video I was considering getting the Magpul bipods, glad I saw this video before purchasing!! Great Review!!

I already know the best bipod. The Accu-Tac I bought from PTS. I have owed Harris, Magpul and a few other brands and the Accu-Tac with an Arca mount is by far the most durable and stable. Thanks as always for a great product and review
I like my accutac, def get the swivel head if you can find it. the cant is a given, but that swivel adds just a little bit more convenience.
For hunting im a huge fan of the MDT ckye pod triple pole.

Thanks Gary awesome video. Bought the Accu-Tac WB-5 for target shooting. Class is Sporting Hunter we shoot F-Class targets but with bipods, No spikes or skies allowed and base spread of less than 14” 36cm. And a 1 Kg squeeze bag. The WB-5 Because it does not have pan long legs to shoot out to 1000 yds. I’ve watched your Accu-Tac video’s many times to choose the right one.

I've never use'd any of MDT's bi-pods, but I own of the one's I have used, Harris, Accutac, Atlas, Etc. The Accutac is by far the best. They're just heavy.

Gary thanks for the updated video on the bipods. I wish that TBAC, Accutac, and MDT would change their design to be able to change the head with two screws like the Atlas allows.
The TBAC does. Actually they need to all incorporate the mount that MDT has on the new Ckye-Pod which accepts pic and arca.
Ok I stand corrected. It's a shame you have spend another $100 to upgrade the mount. See if you can acquire a lot from TBAC without the mount and sell them without the mount or include the Area 419 mount. @@paramounttactical

I bought the FC-4 from y'all last year and I absolutely love it. All my rifles have their own hard case with everything they need within, except a bipod because I only need 1. I use this one bipod for every rifle I own, it's that good. My lightest rig is 19 pounds and this bipod could care less. Good stuff.
I would be in cardiac arrest carrying a 19 pound gun from the car to the shooting bench.
@@danielmccarthyyI've carried my rigs much further than that back in my day but to the bench it is nowadays. I do actually have a 22lr with an old Magpul bipod on it that my kiddos and grandkids shoot when they are with me and it feels oddly underweight 😉

@@paramounttactical I am hunting at 7000 to 10,000 feet, sometimes steep. Even with camping beside the truck, 10+ miles a day are typical. It adds up. I tell guys it is easier to lose ten pounds off their belly than off their rifle…

X-Rings video on 6max in competition had his MDT CKYE fail on him, where the splay feature broke while on the clock causing him to lose lots of time.
Yep. He and I have talked at length about it. Those ones he had were the older models. They’re the ones I’ve reviewed in the past and had real issues with the construction and fitnent. MDT sent me some of the new ones to check out. The new ones seem to be much better overall.

Best what? And if you’re say in g bipods, by what criteria are they good? I’ve tested some of their bipods in the past and I wasn’t impressed. Probably adequate for an AR but there’s better options. It’s been a while so maybe they e come out with new models that are better.
I’m curious as to what you like about the product you’re referring to and why you feel it is the absolute best.

My comment was in reference to F.A.B. Defense spike precision bipod. The criteria I’ve judged this bipod the best in would be my experience in benchrest competitions. The main advantage to this bipod above the others is the ability to lock it into place vertically to eliminate cant and still use the pan / swivel feature. It has proven invaluable to me in KYL competitions and others when shooting targets set at same height and distance. I was 110% satisfied with this product before I mounted it. As it has zero play or slop anywhere in its construction. The legs as you extend them have a tiny bit yes but it is as minimal as possible. You have probably owned more bipods than me but I don’t know what more you could expect or need. No bipod is going to equal an F-class rest. For $175 I say the Spike delivers. Would be interested in your honest opinion. Billy

What options does one have to upgrade from sling swivel mount to something more durable and stable (I did go over the video twice but have not seen it, I know too many issues to cover in a limited time frame).

Another fantastic video. This channel is awesome. I'm curious, when you were serving as a sniper, what kind of accuracy could you pull out of government issued equipment verses all the latest and greatest custom stuff you can purchase now as a civilian. I'm assuming you were using the old faithful M24? If I remember right the M24's were required to keep .35 MOA over 10k rounds (machine rest of course) That to me still looks pretty dang good.

I don’t know what the official requirements were but if we got .75 out of an M24 it was a shooter. Typically you’d see them shoot just under 1 MOA.
Everything on the civilian side has always been better.
Later I went to the M110 and a few others. All chassis rifles are a better option that the traditional synthetic stock rifles. They’re more rigid and allow for accessories like IR and thermal devices.

You can get 90% of the benefit of a bipod with a cheap, light weight magpul bipod. It works. 600 yard shot on a doe deer, no problem.
You’re not wrong but what the magpul won’t allow you to see your impact or miss bc it isn’t rigid enough to “load” and keep the rifle on target.
So many people base their equipment selection and shooting methodologies on putting all their eggs into a first round hit. Follow up shots are not considered at all. It’s not realistic.
Man i wish i found this video a couple weeks ago. Stupid me bought a magpul bipod.
I'm intrigued by this fixation on rigidity as being the number one thing affecting your students. There are some very successful ELR shooters that emphasize the "swing" of the bipod to great effect. (See Mark and Sam After Work for example) The F-TR world for the most part doesn't load a bipod at all. While their bipods are ultra wide and very rigid, for the most part they're on skis and not easily adjusted because of weight considerations and the lack of variability in target position. Yet follow-through is achieved very easily through correct body position and rifle tracking... not muscling the rifle.
This requires context. Less than 1% of shooters shoot ELR. Recoil management doesn’t matter nearly as much when you have over a second + to recover. Mark and Sam also have a spotter the whole time so the shooter doesn’t need to spot the hit or miss. Rigity is important for shooting under 1000. With bipods that have a lot of flex the recoil pulse will take you off target and the shooter will not see your impacts or misses.
Love the TierOne, mounted under and got the top Mount for the legs. Have pressed mine forward with an rail so the bipod is sitting 2inches in front of the stock and carrying the rigg. Bad eng,sorry
I shot out to 1100 yards EASILY and consistently using the MagPul bipod. However I also own the Accutac PC-4 with Arca QD. Of course i love my AccuTac, however the Magpul is far from trash. Then again i believe in developing a level of skill so high that I can be proficient using any level of firearm and accessories.
The issue isn’t if they work shooting at distance, the issue is having the rigidity to SEE your impacts and trace, and then be able to deliver follow up shots quickly.
I can hit 1000yd target “EASILY” on a bipod I made from a clothes hanger. That doesn’t mean it has the rigidity for the shooter to load the bipod properly and have any capacity to mitigate recoil to the point that the shooter can see their impacts or misses. The Magpul completely fails at this, so yes… it’s trash for long range shooting.
@@paramounttactical I understand what you’re saying. I noticed that when I loaded up on the MagPul I didn’t have any major issues to report. Again I do run a PC-4 on my main rig and I appreciate it, but I didn’t have a bad experience with the Magpul.
@@kpperry784 next time you’re at the range. Run some timed drills on a 2 or more targets using the two different bipods.
Also, see if at around 400yds which one you can watch impacts/misses on.
This is all assuming you’re using proper fundamentals and loading both bipods correctly.
@@paramounttactical Yes indeed. There’s no question I’m going to be better with my PC-4. Brother, I wasn’t always semi-wealthy, so I made do with what I could at the time. Now I can afford the good stuff and yes it makes stuff a lot better. But I’ll do that drill. Thanks. BTW my mentor is Pat, famous older SF sniper and Frank, former NCOIC at SFARTAEC.

years ago I wanted an extreme light weight bipod. I searched for weeks and have seen a ton over my time. I finally found the best and lighest you can find. Its Tier One. They are out of England. All carbon fiber and titanium. Literally a few ounces and its strong! Check em out.
Wish i would have seen this a few weeks ago. Changed all my LMT MRP uppers from quad rail to mlok and got a magpul mlok bipod. Oops.
Most of the flex of the Atlas appeared to come from the mount/cant mechanism area rather than the legs themselves flexing (should say, I’ve never seen one in person, just commenting from this video).
I’ve got an Accutac (WB-5), I’m not convinced the sprung leg angle adjustment is the best way to go. Seems to be rather cumbersome from behind the rifle/in shooting position. But again, I’ve not tried a button release bipod to compare.
Was just thinking the same thing. Very apparent at the end of him showing it.

My MDT groundpod can 45 in both directions .
informative videos etc... I was looking at your classes/courses and they seem pretty fun.. What I do not get is your ammunition sales policy.. "Ships only to licensed FFL" is painting with a rather broad brush IMHO.. yea it is easier but kind of heavy handed perhaps? I realize that here are states with almost no 2A freedoms left but I would not condone them by giving everyone else the same restrictions... easier or not, just not in the spirit of the 2nd...
I don't know if I missed it on the video but you said you were going to show us alternative options that you would recommend if you have sling swivel mount on your stock what are good sling swivel mount to arca rail adaptors. I am asking specifically for a tikka t3x. Thank you

Given the other very bad reviews on it I really don’t see the point. I think Gunwerks has actually discontinued the original and coming out with a 2.0. Maybe that will be worth a review.
What I can tell you for certain, the ones I do have in this video are all rock solid and good pieces of kit.

@@williamallan4735 the Thunder Beast Arms, MDT GRND-POD, and Protean are extremely light and make great hunting bipods. The MDT CKYE POD are mid weight and can extend extremely long. All covered in the video.

I covered it. You can replace it with an Arca rail.

If you load your rifle when shooting off a bipod, how does that work when the legs are angles back? Do you not “load” the rifle when shooting off bipod?
You absolutely can load the bipod with legs angled backward. On a short shooting bench the rubber feet provide a lot of friction. Obviously you have to modify some things based on the shooting position and circumstances. You’re always trying to attain the optimal shooting position given the circumstances. But yeah… they load just fine with the legs at a 45 rearward.

Have you found a intuitive way to mount an arca rail on a traditional stock rifle. Like a fiberglass McMillan A5 or similar?
Yeah man. You can literally just drill and bolt on. There’s different ways to do it and there’s kits you can buy with threaded insets. It’s pretty straight forward. The process feels a bit ugly but the end result is a much better and updated rifle platform. Or… you can just buy a chassis to put your barreled action in which is probably a better option anyhow. Then you have a modular chassis with adjustable length of pull, cheek riser, and other improvements. MPA, MDT, among others make some great chassis that we sell.
@@paramounttactical thanks buddy. Thats what I was thinking I'd have to do. I'm running several chassis rifles currently and have pretty much converted all my bipods to the arca rail configuration. Just trying to adapt some of my other rifles as well.
What are your thoughts on bipods that mount over the bore (assuming the hand guard allows for it)?
Not a fan and I don’t see the point. They’re permanently/semi permanently installed. I see no real significant advantage. They’re not more stable than the AccuTac FC4 or FC5 and those I can remove and adjust easier as well as take off easily when I want to pack the rifle or if I just need to shoot without the bipod, like on a tripod. Yeah.. not a fan of the overall concept.

Any bipod that directly attaches to MLOK is a bad idea. If you use bipods correctly you’re exerting a lot of force and leverage on the rail. That attachment isn’t strong enough. Use an arca mount or a pic rail mount and a quality bipod. The magpul and oryx are just cheap bipods and are going to perform accordingly.

Harris Bipods are good to go under 200 for a duty AR, not precision though.
Why do we need arca when we have picatinny?
Because ARCA, as discussed in the video, is a significantly stronger, more versatile mounting system.
Does anyone know if the Prodean XTSA bipod is rigid. He said that is most important and it looks like he was so impressed with the speed and all the other features that he kind of skipped over his #1 rule of it has to be rigid. I like the lightweight, packed with features but I'm worried about the rigidity of it.
It’s very rigid or I wouldn’t feature/carry them.

Craddock Precision barrels are one of a few I’d recommend. I have no affiliation with them but I do have a couple of AR10s in 6.5CM and they shoot lights out.

Thanks for getting back to me on this question because I really don't know all that much about building rifles and I really love learning all new things and this is just one thing that I really want and need to learn because I am really getting back into the hunting seasons and all ways loved hunting but getting into the AR-15 and AR-10 rifles to build mine the way I want them so really the biggest thing I am trying to learn and really like doing my on thing's so I can save the money from having someone else do it for me and that way I do know what I have put into my own rifles...... and thank you for getting back to me ......
What about the Atlas Cal Gen 2? would like to see it compared to the others here.
All the atlas suffer from the same problem. The legs flex and spring forward and back. Until they fix that problem there’s no point in any of their bipods.
Could you demonstrate this? I have both the v8 and the Gen. 2 Atlas Cal. I can understand the frustration on the slack of the v8 but the Gen. 2 Cal is not that bad. Also there is quite a few high profile shooters using what seems is the feet of the Atlas, like Eric Cortina and Markandsam afterwork.
@@isakdreyerII A large percentage of the top PRS shooters use Atlas. I can't imagine that being the case if they were that bad.
What about when you have to run your bolt ? Still come off target a bit...
This is why you load the bipod. If you’re doing things right, you really shouldn’t be coming off target and ultimately what does that have to do with it? I want to stay on target immediately following the shot and have good follow through so I can spot my hits, misses, or trace. A good bipod allows you to do that. Coming off target due to bolt manipulation is another thing altogether. It’s less consequential. If I can’t see where a miss was I can’t make corrections.
How do you feel about the oryx bipod. And let’s hear it full honest,
You ever see an Amazon bipod that isn’t bad? Got an MLOK mounted “MidTen” Chinese garbage bipod. Just wondering what you think about them?
I haven’t bothered with them. I can look at their construction, materials, etc and see what they’re for. They’re for inexperienced folks that just want a cheap bipod. New shooters think a bipod is a bipod. That and a thousand other items is a great example of the fact that just because we’re a dealer for brand doesn’t mean we carry or approve of most items by brands we’re associated with. Fact is inexpensive items sell and there’s usually a larger profit percentage in those items and all it costs us would be our credibility. We’re dedicated to only carrying the best gear or the best value as long as performance isn’t compromised.
If we carry an item or have featured an item in a video, it’s good.
I don’t do negative reviews. I don’t believe in trashing products or companies. There’s hundreds of items I’ve tested that wasn’t worth reviewing or carrying in our shop that people will never see. I will never compromise our integrity or performance for profits.

So the MDT Oryx bipod is not good? Those are half the price of the grnd-pod.
There’s a reason they’re half the price. At half the price you’re overpaying.
Additionally the arca rail can double as a paddle, a club, and my personal favorite a boat anchor. I just give my atlas a blue pill right before I go out and rigidity is a non issue.

Where was BT Atlas and Elite Iron bipods?
You skipped through video huh? I covered Atlas quite thoroughly and why I don’t recommend them and I don’t think elite iron bipods make sense. IMO Accutac are better and cheaper than the Elite Iron. I also don’t like the idea of a bipod that I can’t remove easily. There’s nothing they do that Accutac doesn’t, they don’t attach to a universal mount, and they’re $700 for what I believe is an inferior bipod.

I still can’t see spending that much on a Bipod over a tried and true Harris that the most Deadly ACCURATE Snipers in the World have been providing for 5 Decades works extremely well including Mr.Kyle who is keeping it safe upstairs, nestled under his Lapua was a Harris Bipod. I do think you can build a better Mousetrap but it’s not needed more than being wanted by People. on principle i agree with you. however that same argument could be said for ANYTHING in the shooting world. no one needs a bix & andy trigger over a shilen at 1/3rd the cost but... Ultimately we all decided how much small degrees are worth. On a hunting rig i dont even use a bipod, just a front bag on my pack. i mean 300 yards is a gimme shot anyway. If shooting competitively... money becomes a secondary concern. any percentage of better is worth it. Semper Fi.

No I don’t believe you can.
muzzle flip/rise is a positional challenge. with a good body position it doesn't happen. rifles recoil straight back. if it flips up its because your body position made it do it.
You’re 100% right. However, whether it’s competition positional shooting, hunting situations, or a rushed shot due to circumstances, we don’t always get have perfect form or body position.
The fact remains that a heavier bipod is still going to reduce recoil and depending on the combination of rifle setup and cartridge, that difference can be dramatic.
Any little advantage helps and good equipment gives us the peace of mind to focus on our part of the firing solution.

The shop I work for usually recommends atlas, but I wasn't as impressed with the flex. Their warranty and customer service is top notch though if you do end up having a problem. I like my Cadex falcon lite much better.
@@joelriggs9153 yea I backordered Thunder beast via Paramount Tactical with spiked feet. Ill test out pic attach first. All the snobs groups have Atlas so I don’t speak against it. And in all reality Im very inexperienced. But TBAC is literally perfect for me.
@@jlpowell8432 I have the Cadex strike pro chassis so I got the bipod to match because of the way their locking system is. If I had the money for TBAC I would or accutac. I have a couple utg recon 360 bipod on a couple hunting rifles that have held up and been beaten that are mlok attached and have less flex than the atlas I'd played with. The worst I've tested is the UTG recon flex that mounts on both sides of the handguard with mlok.

@@paramounttactical weighs half of what competitors do, fully titanium, two different options for leg extensions and comes in arca/picatiny. Makes MDT look like their bipods are from the Stone Age. Audere is the only other bipod that comes close in weight but you can’t change the angle of their legs. Tbac weighs a ton and Tier One as well. MDT needs to make their new plastic oryx in arca. Accu-tec weighs too much.
Make sure you get the Precision Alpine Backlandz model. It’s the new industry standard.

@@boatscrypto5856 what type of shooting are you doing? You understand weight is a critical component of a bipod and its stability right? The heavier the bipod, the more stable it is and the more it mitigates recoil. I get it if you’re a hunter but other than that I can definitively and demonstrably say from a performance standpoint your ranking is WAY off. Saying a specific bipod is good because it’s light is like saying you like a specific drag race tire because it’s skinnier than XY or Z tire. “TBAC weighs a ton”? 😂 They’re under 1lbs. You may prefer a lighter bipod because you’re willing to compromise weight because you’re carrying a rifle around but from a performance standpoint, for staying on target and being able to deliver faster follow up shots or fast multiple shots on target, AccuTac is by far the best on your list. This conversation makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
@@paramounttactical have you tried Audere, Tier One and Backlandz? Unless you have, I'm not sure you're able to have an opinion of how they compare. I highly recommend trying those out. I do think I'f I had a rifle class and I needed a durable bipod that could be thrown around Accutac would be a good trainer option. their cheap and abundant. but considering all the bipods I mentioned are 1/4 the weight of theirs I don't see how Accutac could compare. In a fighting situation I'd rather have something that's more maneuverable and nimble. there's other ways of adding weight in a purposeful way to your rifle. I don't think you should be buying a bipod if your man concern is adding weight. If I wanted to add weight I'd consider getting arca and bag attachment. that's way more versatile than getting a Accutac just because it's heavy. Stability doesn't equal weight. Just because a bipod is heavy doesn't mean it is stable. It could be a hunk of junk and heavy at the same time. You said it yourself that rigidity is important.I'd recommend a Backlandz for hunting and a bag whenever you're looking for stability. Area 419 also makes weighted m-lock attachments if you'd like even more weight.

If I was still an operational sniper, where im humping gear 10K to a hide site, I’m not saying I would choose AccuTac but to disqualify a bipod or rank based on weight is silly. And no, I haven’t used Audere and Backlanz but I’ve used the rest on your list and to say based on performance that AccuTac ranks even below the Grnd pod is just ridiculous. To say that TBAC is super heavy when it’s under 16oz is also ridiculous.
If you prioritize weight above all else for your personal use that’s fine but that’s a preference, it’s not a performant point. It’s like saying a Prius is a better car than a corvette all because you personally prioritize gas mileage.

It’s not floppy in the stowed or deployed configuration, at all. It making noise during deployment or retracting is valid though.

Well that’s one man’s opinion and kind of a weird one given that the MDT is the most widely used bipod in PRS/NRL and you’ll almost never see Harris bipods being used on modern rifles owned by serious shooters.
@@paramounttactical is possible I got a bad unit. My main problem is this, when you tighten the cant, and you use the cant (move the rifle to one side or the other) the entire can't nut loosens, leaving your rifle flopping around. I'm totally willing to say either I got a bad unit or I'm doing something wrong
