Next time you go to Taiwan, get out of Taipei and head to Hualien and Taroko Gorge. You'll be blown away. Best place in Asia. It's 25 celsius in the afternoon so much nicer for exploring than Malaysia.
I lived one year in Hualien, imo Taroko Gorge has become too crowded with mainland Chinese noisy tour buses. George Town has far more variety of food choices than Hualien.

I am afraid that Nasi Kandar I somewhat knew it would not be earth-shaking, mouth-watering, mind-altering and personality- disorientation good from just the looks of it. I am sure, there are many more places that will totally spin you into a vortex for Nasi Kandar, but I don't know where. Hiii, I'm another Penang-lang (Penangite for hokkien) and the Nasi Kandar u went to was.. yea like what you said. Though, the one my family and I always go to is at Batu Lanchang. Especially lunch hour, the lines are LONG but it's totes worth waiting. Well, depends on the dishes u choose too. And the prices are always consistent, unlike some places who'd charge more just bcs you're a tourist. The catch is that u have to go at the right time to get the dishes u want: too early, the dishes aren't out yet; too late, dishes have run out and you'd have to wait for another batch. So I'd recommend u go at around 11:30~12:00 p.m. . Anyways, I dunno whether you've gone back but if u ever come back to Penang, pls try this place instead! Hope this helps🎉
I prefer to start my day with a heavy breakfast (rice, veg, meat) and skip lunch. I feel energetic because lunch makes me feel sleepy. I haven't been to Penang for many years. I like that there are bicycles for rent. The road must be bicycle friendly there.
Sedap’ is the Malay word for ‘delicious’. ‘Paling sedap’ is basically ‘most delicious’- a superlative. They also use ‘enak’. Lorong Cinta- Love Lane- is home to several backpacker places. The hotel I stayed in when I was there in 2014 is permanently closed. A pity you didn’t eat a nasi lemak in this video. I was going to suggest you use the Malay name of ikan bilis. Georgetown will be on my list for my next visit.

The reason why cities like Penang are lacking in pedestrian paths is because they are old cities. Town planning wasn't good back then and unfortunately space is scarce now. Be good to see if they can do better in future and improve on this

I think this is due spelling changes .. before 80s, malaysians use "ch" then we drop the "h" to simplify some malay words. So "chanai" becomes "canai", not really helps in getting the actual pronounciation

The roti was too spicy for you, that's why you just swallowed the roti. Try the plain roti next time, it should be heavenly just plain, because it's got ghee and sugar as flavoring already, coupled with its crispy fluffy texture, its heavenly!
