Georgetown is one of my favorite places on earth. It is such an interesting city, full of old buildings, temples, mosques etc. And its also one of the best places I know for food. I just love it.
I feel like he didn't do it justice? I hear from everyone that Penang Island is a place where everyone travels to just so they can eat the food... this video was pretty dead. I want him to do a proper food tour!
i have just returned from penang, and i agree, georgetown is a living museum. i shall need to go back to visit the things that i didnt see this time - there is so much to do and see. a lovely place.
The way mark react to food is like a traveller who has been lost in a desert for days and finally states some refreshing food, such an appreciation for whatever he eats is really refreshing all the time!!
My husband and me visited Penang in December 2017 and have lovely memories of this clean, serene city of down to earth people We are from india Churches, Mosques and Temples decorate Penang
Stayed at the Blue Mansion Approx 12 years ago. There used to be an “eating courtyard” next door at night (prob built over now). Beautiful enigmatic building. Supposed to have the best feng shui on the island, yet the downfall of the inhabitants were so devastating. I can assure you the place is haunted by great sadness.
His facial expressions when he eats is already enough to make watching this video worth while. Pure joy on his face. We should all be so lucky to have someone look at us the way he reacts to those dumplings.
I have to agree with you when you talked about how overpriced it was going in Fort Cornwallis. Being a Penangite myself, I used to go there when the entrance fee was none, then they had to put a price on the entrance fee since more and more tourists became interested in the place, HOWEVER the price that they have now is WAY overpriced since there is really not much to see inside. If they charged us Malaysians maybe RM5 and RM10 for foreigners it would still be acceptable because they have to upkeep the place but entrance fee that they have now is just ridiculous to the point that I'm slightly ashamed of them doing that to people especially the foreigners.
Yes, I am planning on visiting the country in February, I too think I will skip Penang. The tourist attractions really didn't seem to be worth the price. Too bad on missing the food though, I heard great things about food in that city.
My friends and I are planning to go to Penang on this September and we have already booked for airline tickets. Thanks Mark for giving a glimpse of Penang.
Thank you for making and sharing this. We are moving to Penang in 6 months time. Your video has been a great help to us. Keep up the good work. We (my wife and I) really like your video style. Total awesomeness. From a happy Irish man and Australian woman.
Penang Island, what a wonderful city and I will never forget till the last days as the special charisma. I have been employed at Penang in an German organization since 2011 up to present days. With creating the life great moments. Love Malaysia from Nepal.
I truly enjoy your travel videos because of how positive your vibe is and how respectful you are towards other people's culture!! Keep uploading good contents ❤️❤️
A great video of a great place Mark...I find walking around George Town fascinating...as you say...it's a living museum. So many choices for food there. We found ourselves eating Indian food more than any other when we were there. Although I really enjoy having a good curry for breakfast which is something that doesn't happen in Australia as far as I'm aware. The street I really enjoy most is Chulia Street. We arrived there from the airport quite late around 11 pm. After we had checked in we headed out and the place was buzzing Been to Penang twice now in 2014 and 2015. Love it that much we'll be heading back again in 2016
Thank you for showing respect to the residential area along the docks you were walking. I have witness first hand many non-native/ tourist disrespecting residents culture of countries they are visiting keep up the great job and the info you provide .
Love Penang Mark. Love Georgetown and stayed in Little India. Waking to the smell of incense and spices is inspiring. But last time stayed out in quiet Tanjung Bungah equally fantastic. Love the whole place. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mark and Ying for your great videos. We are always brought to the point of wanting to jump on a plane and visit the places you have been. We love your passion and good example of appreciation of different cultures and cuisines. Blessings.
Love all your videos Mark and thanks for visiting Khoo Kongsi which is also my ancestor's clan house. If you visit Penang during the Chinese New Year you will see more vibrant atmosphere primarily in those Chinese temples like the Khoo Kongsi and Kek Lok Si as the lights will be lit up and lion dances performance will be held and not to forget the fireworks throughout Penang. Actually there are so many places in Georgetown which i considered the best.. like the magic muzium, the ice cafe, the ghost museum, the aquarium at komtar.. so many!! If u visit again, i hope u go there.. i went to those places n it was fantastic
Hi Mark and Ying! Thank you so much for the great tour of yours. I just went to Penang a few days ago. Honestly, the Fort Cornwallis is much better if you go on one of their free tours. Without the tour, I’d agree that the ticket is overpriced.
Hi Mark, me and my wife watch all of your videos and this one at 7:21 amazing traditional song from Rajasthan took our heart away as we both love to eat very foody and currently living in NZ but originally from Rajasthan. Thanks for all of your amazing videos God Bless..
Your introduction is amazing, thanks for introducing my hometown Penang! Just a little tips here, there’s a Restaurant for fine dining inside the Fort Cornwallis which’s call When Francis meet Rempah, which you can offsetting the admission fee dining there, the food were quite good too
Nasi Kandar I had in NS in Penang was just legendary also my mate took us to few other places too I can't remember their names but food in Penang is soo damn good it has to be my most favorite place for food
+Mark Wiens I have never tried malaysian food before and there is a malaysian festival in melbourne and I had no idea what I was going to get so I have been looking at all your Malaysian videos and have found lots of foods i would like to try and I would just like to say thank you and that your videos are very informative and have helped me a lot!

For the 1st time. Juz visited penang last week. Njoy very much of my times there. It's easy to travel around Penang. Generally it is safe & transporatation is so easily available. Free city bus for almost all major attraction around Georgetown area. Grab is cheap. Those who hvnt been there. Recommended. Affordable malaysia short getaway. Local food is delicious, historical building is beautiful. Most of the local is friendly peoples. 👍
Mark and Ying, Appreciate your honesty in your review of your journeys. Yes, bad start but then the tandoori chicken. Oh my, will have to make some. The mansion was beautiful with the mezzanine. The temple has some amazing craftsmanship and art work and history. Greatly appreciate the video. Thank You.
Hi Mark, I just came back from Georgetown (13th October 2017). There are some places you should've have visited: Penang Road Teochew Chendol - This is a MUST TRY when in Penang!!! Chulia Street Night Hawker Street hawkers along Lebuh Kimberly - There's a very nice Char Kway Teow stall there Hong Kee Bamboo Noodles - Go betweet 11am to 1500 to see them make the noodles using bamboo Penang Squatting Teochew Porridge - I was there on 13th October few hours before my flight back to SG but they did not open as the owner went for a knee operation and might be back in 2 weeks (according to another stall owner) Ee Beng Vegetarian Food - The food here is really good. It's 3 businesses within one place!
Hi Mark - we just want to tell you we loved this video clip (and your others) and ate at Kapitan. This was the beginning of our Vlogging and we also featured it - amazing food. We have just bought a camper van and quit our jobs so will be doing many more vlogs. I am a real foodie so keep up the videos they are great !
I’ve been there before! Like last month! I was actually tempted to going into the beach’s waters until I saw jellyfish warnings... Especially the rare box jellyfish ones...
From Lebuh Armenian, if you walk straight towards Lebuh Acheh (towards the heritage hotel), on your left you'll find this indian restaurant (in an old shoplot. It's more like canteen/mess). It has no signboard, locals call this place kedai Muthu. I've been going there for ages and I've only seen a few tourists so far, but at lunch time the place will be full house, all locals (business hours 12.45pm-3pm). The food there, goddammnit, is simply freaking delicious. Nothing fancy here, all are basic south Indian foods, but the taste, out of this world!(the price? Dirt cheap! Rice is free, and you can ask for as much as you can eat, no matter how many times) They been there for as long as i can remember, and everything is cooked fresh every morning. If you guys visit penang again, go look for this place, trust me, you wont regret.
@5:49 absolutely it is pricey even for the locals. Please don't go in there. U can see it from the outside no difference. Anyway, Mark Wiens u rock. My hometown! Please comeback again, there's more to explore on the other parts of Penang. Thank u very much for coming 👍👍
Good day Mark, thanks for choosing Penang and introducing interesting places around. Ive been away for long but this masterpiece of yours make me so feel like am back home again, especially the way the eat and enjoy the food, ha... the expressions make my saliva drop. lol ... Thanks again. It was awesome.
Mark, you should have stop at Hameed mee sotong (noodles with dried squid sambal) and enjoy the coconut shake at the food court nearby the Fort Cornwallis and 1 more attraction is the nasi lemak, if not mistaken named Projek Nasi Lemak Box, just beside the field
im a Malaysian from Sungai Petani just 40 minutes drive from Penang Island. For a while i feel like Penang is my second hometown since it is my arrival port when i fly home. I always have a pitstop in Georgetown before actually heading back to my real hometown. Food is at every corner from wherever you are staying, just within walking distance, you can sample so many food in a day and keep "walking" the calories away >.< Every time i was there it seems like there are new attractions or cafes to check out. It can be touristy, but unlike other popular cities elsewhere, Penang is very much local and cultured. All the eateries are run for the livelihood of the locals hence, so many competitions (nasi kandar, roti canai, char kuey teow, hokkien mee), fortunately great options for us. I cant wait for my 'revenge' feast when i get back!
Been to Chew Jetty where I’ve been for a few months is amazingly beautiful as always as you said there are a lot of beautiful architectural buildings and cafe and restaurants especially food courts are affordable and full of delicious foods.
Another very enjoyable video Mark. Your facial expressions when you eat something really delicious are a sight to see. The expression says much more than words can!! Keep them coming as I'm heading to Penang and Langkawi in August 2015
Sawasdee khrap Mark & Ying! Thank you for yet another wonderful video! Penang looks like a really exciting and lovely place to visit and both Ying and yourself have done a marvellous job portraying and describing your stay there. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful travels and taste feast from around Asia and beyond :) Sawatdee khrap don khuun,
Nice vid mark, its always fascinating me, how the people in the background sometimes look at you, but your still enyoing your meal! :D And i would preciate, if you go to japan again! :) Im austrian, but i love Japan :))

Thank for for such amazing content!!! You guys continuously put out gold! Ill be in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand (Bangkok) on tour later this month and Ive been using your videos almost exclusively for my research on where to go! Thank you!!!❤

Mark.. wow is really nice see you visit penang my hometown.. a big welcome to you and your wife.. hope both you enjoy and pls come more often.. thank you for sharing all the best place and food in the world
2 pieces tandoori and 1 naan equals to MYR 17.Fort Carnwills equal to MYR 20.Food is more awesome than Fort.Me as Malaysian dont really go to place like that.I actually like its food than place to visit.
Arno ACU Too bad there was no tour guide in the fort to explain that the Japanese took over the fort during the second world war and used it as a prison. Many prisoners were executed, beheaded in the fort. You can still see the prisons.
Nice one! A good blend of food and local sights. As much as I love watching your food only videos, I really enjoy when you show us around the places you're visiting as well. Keep 'em coming!
I have watched nearly all of his videos and the only time he looked disgusted with something was when he was in Ghana and he was eating some bushmeat but then they had some pork in there which looked very badly cooked and he said, "it's too blubbery" and put it aside. He did not eat it and I was SHOOK hahaha!
Mate thanks for your video - we saw it & subsequently visited Georgetown in late 2019 and really enjoyed it. We did a number of the things you recommended and made a point of visiting Kapitan restaurant. You were right ! the Chicken Tikka was to die for and so cheap. We hope to go back one day.
Georgetown is one of my favorite places on earth. It is such an interesting city, full of old buildings, temples, mosques etc. And its also one of the best places I know for food. I just love it.

Another very enjoyable video Mark. Your facial expressions when you eat something really delicious are a sight to see. The expression says much more than words can!! Keep them coming as I'm heading to Penang and Langkawi in August 2015

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
_Corinthians 13:4-7_
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
_1 Corinthians __13:13_
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love..
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.

Mark.. wow is really nice see you visit penang my hometown.. a big welcome to you and your wife.. hope both you enjoy and pls come more often.. thank you for sharing all the best place and food in the world
OMG your reaction to every food you eat tho
I'm going back to Penang this weekend. Already explored some of the attractions before. Great video. Thanks!
2 pieces tandoori and 1 naan equals to MYR 17.Fort Carnwills equal to MYR 20.Food is more awesome than Fort.Me as Malaysian dont really go to place like that.I actually like its food than place to visit.
Arno ACU I agree, travel for the food.
Arno ACU Too bad there was no tour guide in the fort to explain that the Japanese took over the fort during the second world war and used it as a prison. Many prisoners were executed, beheaded in the fort. You can still see the prisons.
Mark Wiens I agree....had Dim Sum for lunch today....Anytime day or night is the right time for Dim Sum
I love the architecture of the 2nd temple. Very detail and beautiful. And the dim sum place, oh man, you made my mouth watering!
Tinh Nguyen Thanks Tinh

Nice one! A good blend of food and local sights. As much as I love watching your food only videos, I really enjoy when you show us around the places you're visiting as well. Keep 'em coming!
electricmonk71 Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. I'll try to do a mix of videos from here on.
I hope you managed to enjoy the amazing street food along Kimberley street!
My God, I know every corner you are showing, wish I could travel again ...
There is a Caernavon Castle in Wales, but I think the street was named after a Lord Caernavon.
The street was reportedly named after the 4th Earl of Carnarvon Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert(1831-1890).
Thankyou for coming !
Have you ever eaten something you didn't like?😄
Steve v G yes...
It was called broccoli...
He's fake
Mate thanks for your video - we saw it & subsequently visited Georgetown in late 2019 and really enjoyed it. We did a number of the things you recommended and made a point of visiting Kapitan restaurant. You were right ! the Chicken Tikka was to die for and so cheap. We hope to go back one day.
Sure do come back! Im pretty sure the borders are open now.
hey mark. you should come here again and visit the escape park penang in teluk bahang. it was so much fun ! really.. :D
you're all welcomed here..
You pronounce the Chinese names and words with a Cantonese accent. I'm very impressed.
Great Video...:)
Mark & YIng, Another great video. I love that you show us your trip and review the food, I hope you do more like this thanks for sharing. love it.
Charles Rogers Thank you Charles
