  • As many of you know, I love trying different diets! I've tried carnivore, OMAD, intuitive eating, vertical diet etc. So with that said, in today's video I decided to give the keto (ketogenic) diet a try for a week! Is it the best weight loss diet?
    Throughout the video I outline exactly how I'm going about my week in terms of calories, macros, meal frequency. I also outline some great recipes, meal ideas. This is a great video outlining the keto diet for beginners!
    The week definitely had it's ups and downs but the results were INSANE! Definitely didn't expect to lose that much weight by the end.
    Hope you all enjoy the video and can learn a little about the keto diet along the way!

      @Win7ermu7e 6 місяців тому +3

      @@Empedocles449 The time to get into ketosis varies between individuals, generally 2-4 days. Some people (I'm one) can get into it in 24-30 hours especially if you weren't going crazy with the carbs on your cheat day. The keto "flu" also varies, whether you get it, for how long, and how bad it us. Will didnt seem to get it, which is good. But yeah doing it for a week is kinda silly unless you just want to see what it feels like.

      For me, it takes about 48 hours for my appetite to regulate back down. But it can definitely take a couple weeks to actually figure out what that means for you and what to do about it. You might try a meal and figure out the portion size, then try it again next week, and that portion is now way excessive. Or you might think you've got everything planned, but get caught out without a lunch one day and have to eat out, without knowing about Subway rotisserie chicken salads or Carl's Jr lettuce-wrap burgers. Or you might think you've got a recipe figured out, but realize after 3 weeks that your taco seasoning has 15g of cornstarch per packet and you've been going over your targets. Your body usually adapts faster than your lifestyle.

    My experience with keto and having stable energy is yes it actually does work for that as in it’s always shitty stable and consistent feeling like garbage.
    It works great at making you lose water weight and making you think you’re leaner than you actually are anyone that goes on a keto diet will lose a lot of weight at first and think they dropped a lot of fat when it’s actually not fat but water. Then if they ever go off keto and eat carbs again they will often rebound and gain an excessive amount of water and bloating and glycogen and end up yo-yoing back-and-forth.

      @GroundOne 3 роки тому +268

      sorry Greg but you are full of shit here. Anybody will FEEL like shit because it takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks to become fully fat-adapted to the point where you've made that metabolic switch from carbs as the primary fuel source to fat or stored body fat and being more efficient at running off that. and that takes a bit of time. and it will especially if youre someone who eats a high carbohydrate diet and even harder if there's a lot of refined carbs and sugar youre coming off of. BUT after which, consistent and sustained energy levels come back. and you feel even better than you did before. post meal "crashes" don't exist and you feel like you can go without eating for hours because you're just so goddamn comfortable and have the long term satiety effect.
      ALSO you DO lose body fat AFTER the water weight comes off as well. but it takes MORE than a week. or several weeks. or a month. you lose water weight at FIRST, but people who stick with it longer who eventually become fat-adapted will continue to lose weight because they're more satiated throughout the day, have consistent energy levels with no crash, and quite frankly, are so comfortable with going without food for such long periods of time that being "hangry" doesn't exist; all resulting in a caloric deficit. weightloss. a caloric deficit that is totally intuitive and doesn't feel like a chore. that's why it works.
      more long term satiety and fat adaptation aka being able to go hours and hours without feeling hungry and not feeling the need to eat so often. you don't get this with a high carbohydrate diet.
      so in essence, your "experience" is a load of crock as far as I'm concerned. thanks

I’m mainly looking to get strong enough and light enough that when I fall, I can get myself off the floor instead of calling firemen to pull me up. Sad but true. It causes deformities in my toes, and fingers, and my knees just blink out occasionally and very unexpectedly. Sharing a few bits of info that I found relevant when getting on Keto:
    - Trying Keto involves at least 6-10 weeks. Your body needs time to adjust it's machinery to the new fuel (mostly your powerhouses that need to go through several half-life times)
    - Don't go ham on MCT, especially at the start. Many folks get dizzy / lightheaded / nausea from it. Make sure to take it with a bunch of food and start off with small amounts. I've stopped using it all together.
    - Hunger vanishes pretty fast. No more insulin spikes after a meal, no more crashes, no more afternoon fatigue, etc etc.... Steady energy all day is bliss
    - Electrolytes are indeed a major thing, especially the first couple of weeks. Supplementation work, but home-made bonebroth is still my preference.
    - Weight loss is easy on keto. Putting it on means putting oil on your veggies, scrambling your eggs with 50g of butter, snacking on cheese, and so forth --> get creative with fattening up your foods.

      Hang in there... Those cravings and Pavlovian reactions fading are a big indicator that you're getting properly fat adapted.
      Meanwhile, I've gotten a tub of erythritol as sugar replacement - works pretty great, even though it's a bit less sweet and has this "cold" aftertaste.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp Місяць тому

      @jodolski I don't want for sweet things because, based on what I've seen of the scientific literature, I'm not afraid of aspartame. I quit sugar a LONG time ago, and replaced it with diet soda, sugar-free fruit juices, and just a teeny-tiny amount of sugar-free candy. You gotta watch out for that last one, because sugar alcohols can cause serious gas, and maltitol in particular actually hits the blood glucose like sugar. I recent discovery of mine was taking a giant lemon, and adding it's zest and whole flesh into a pitcher of Crystal Light lemonade. Let that sit for two days and it's outrageous, if you like pulpy juices. Also, if you're diligent at avoiding starchy carbs, it's not too hard to sneak in some blackberries or blueberries or cantaloupe once in a while.

    Will, as someone that has been doing keto for over a year now (it's helped immensely with my PCOS and I've lost 91 pounds), I want to say thanks for doing this with an open mind and talking about it in an educated manner. I have seen countless content creators demonizing keto purely because they didn't feel well for the first week while transitioning. One week is certainly not enough to see the full benefits of keto, and is not enough time to get fat-adapted and feel well through everyday functioning and workouts, and you seemed to understand this. I'm glad you talked about the importance of electrolytes and didn't list your "transitory" symptoms as a con because you recognized that it's a normal part of the process. I'm not a hardcore keto-er that thinks everyone needs to do it, but I do like to see creators such as yourself going into it with the proper research for your audience. I feel like you gave it a very fair review. Thank you and keep doing you!

      It's reviewed harshly because there is no scientific evidence that shows it has any inherent benefits while being highly restrictive and unsustainable for most. Sure, anyone can do it and lose weight, but the weight loss is occurring because you're creating a caloric deficit (which you can do with any diet), not because of anything inherently special about keto. It's a diet that unnecessarily restricts foods many people enjoy for no discernable reason.

    Keto meals don't have to be small and leave you feeling like you're not full - just add lots of tasty vegetables.
    If you are someone who loves food and likes to eat a lot, I recommend trying IF/OMAD. I eat one meal a day, usually in the late afternoon after coming home from work; I spend around 30 minutes preparing a feast consisting of around 2 lbs of mixed vegetables, coupled with mozarella or feta, scrambled eggs and some kind of meat or fish. Add a generous amount of olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper to dress it all up. Eating takes me about 1 hour, after which I feel really satiated and loaded with energy for the next morning's training session.
    I've always had difficulties eating several times a day, because I always wanted more and ended up eating way too much overall. With IF, I can go without hunger for 20h+, and when I eventually do get to eat, I can safely binge without having to worry about overeating.

    I was on keto for 8 1/2 months, for reference im a 5'11 M
    Went from 250lbs to 145lbs, now im off keto and maintained for 2 months (i gained 7 lbs of water weight and im back down to 145lbs again WITH the water weight still in me by merely being in a caloric deficit) so anyone reading this who is scared to death of carbs please dont be. I now only track calories and protein sometimes my carbs are like keto level at like 9G net carbs and sometimes they exceed 150G going into nearly 200G. Don't be scared of carbs people. Calories Drive weight loss at the end of the day.
    Use keto as a tool, you don't gotta make it a lifestyle just be sure to learn from the discipline it gives you and eat better than last time! Don't go back to eating shit my friends.

      Its honestly an amazing diet option for a lot of people. Don't look for 100lbs in 9 months, as numbers aren't easy to compare, but look forward to not being hungry and feeling a lot better after the initial couple days. But to me, keto was always a very sustainable diet. Could do it all the time. But I have to cut out most carbs due to celiacs disease, so I'm used to not having all things bread, no matter what I'm eating.

    I started Keto about 5 weeks ago and I am loving it all. The percentages are not really the point. Protein is the goal and use fat to get to the full feeling. So hit the protein gram amounts and use fat to help you stay full. The 70% fat rule is for treatment of diseases like epilepsy. I hit around 60-65% fat a day. A dude like you should be packing on the protein.
    Also your channel is my favorite on UA-cam.

    • @scmsean
      @scmsean 3 роки тому +3

      No epilepsy is like 90%. A high protein diet isn't keto it is atkins. The point of the diet is you burn fat, so you have to feed the body fat. If you are losing weight you cut back on the fat, so it will use your stored fat.

    • @daktaklakpak5059
      @daktaklakpak5059 Рік тому +2

      Its challenging because of peoples bad eating habits. Since childhood people eat bad. Most people don't even realize anymore when they open the fridge. Its pure habit and boredom, because they have nothing better to do. And if people are bored, they walk unconsciously to the fridge and open it. Most of the time snacking as a result.
      If you become aware of your bad eating habits, and do something else instead of snacking. You will succeed in any diet.

    Its a fantastic weight loss diet especially with including finding a fasting routine that works for them.
    The diet is great for getting someone who is over weight back into the zone where exercise becomes comfortable to do.
    Is it the best or even needed for someone of your physic and fat ratio I don't know. I understand you where going for a strict Keto diet, but most people I have heard talking on it don't exclude vegetables (apart from a few) because that is still the best way to get valuable nutrients and vitamins.
    What ever your regular food consumption was is clearly working, you probably burn plenty of calories a day to have a bit of latitude on any prescribed diet.

    My personal keto experience: I’ve always struggled with appetite and being overweight. With keto I add all I wanted without tracking anything other than carbs, and I dropped 30 lbs quicker than I could have ever imagined. I have kept it off (I’m still overweight) but it has been hard for me to maintain the keto eating.

      Why dont you try carb cycling? Basically you go 2 or 3 days in a row doing low carb (keto) then after doing those 2 or 3 days of low/no carbs do a day where you eat normal carbs, its hard to stick to almost any diet for anyone because your body needs everything, try this approach you should still be able to lose weight and still be able to have carbs throughout the week “Carb Cycling”
