It’s truly beautiful watching Marcus slowly realizing what he’s been missing from Mortal Kombat.
Yeah I mean I had and liked MK2 for SNES but it wasn't unti I saw the movie that I got super hyped for MK
Just wait for annihilation 😂
@@Artanis667this movie’s theme song is what got me super hyped!
i really enjoy introducing people to the series through this movie. no one has not enjoyed it yet
Same feeling when he watched shark forever after for the first time
Seeing Marcus enjoy this movie is everything.
IKR I was worried that he was gonna shit on it but much like the rest of us, he loved it.
Well it’s a good movie so…
Which one is Marcus?
It will only last until Transformers 5, enjoy it while it lasts lol
@@thedirty_birdThe less white one. [/only partially sarcasm]
A.k.a. the one who is actually "Cosmonaut". The other person is Dan.
Marcus laughing his ass of at the Johnny Cage signed picture is one of the funniest things ever in his videos. This movie rules lol
"This guy crawled while Kurt Russell was running" is funnier than it should be to me 😂
This movie is complete 90's shlock in the best possible way. This was before MK actually really leaned into narrative as an essential quality of the games despite having a lot of lore, so for what this is, I think it works as a great casual watch that emulates the aesthetic of early MK very well in terms of set and costumes especially
ANNIHILATION ON THE OTHER HAND
Annihilation you mean?
Armageddon was solid for a wii fighting game. Not the best if you had a Ps2 tho
is even better 😃😃
@@AndreiCatalin42069 Fuck I knew I got two things mixed up
Armageddon's a Wii game lol
God right? Like you think how could they screw up in the sequel.. and oh boy.. they.. yeah.. just.. wooof.
My friends and I made a drinking game for this movie, and for one rule, we decided that every time there is a Dutch angle, we would drink. We had to remove that rule within the first minute of the movie because we would have died lmfao
This movie?
What other rules did you have? I think I wanna do this myself lmao
I also need to know the rules.
I don’t drink, this just sounds funny
This is one of the few times a video game adaptation actually influences the games. They made Kano Australian in subsequent games because he was Aussie in this. They made Johnny Cage's autograph moment into a fatality. They brought Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa back to play Shang Tsung in MK11 and it's perfect. It's just a really fun movie that managed to do some wonderful give and take with the video games. The sequel is complete dogshit unfortunately.
they also brought back Sonya, Johnny and Raiden from the movie to mk11!
No, the autograph came first, it was his friendship in MK2
The ten tournament rule, Raiden being the big good, Kitana x Liu Kang, Johnny x Sonya, Johnny joining to prove himself came from the moviw.
plus it mad sonya nd johnny a couple aswell as liu and kitana
yeah, this movia made so much good that the sequel is legit one of the worst movies ever made
The funny part is, Kano's actor had a cockney accent, it was just mistaken for being Australian.
The funniest part is that this is just how Christopher Lambert (Raiden) is. He's not even acting in this movie, he's just saying lines how he would in real life.
I forget Highlander wasn’t as popular as I thought it was. And yeah, he really is just like that
This movie genuinely has good use of its sets and fight choreography. Like the Johnny vs Scorpion fight and Liu Kang vs Reptile fight are just so good
Goro is a Jim Henson puppet. Hes probably one of my favorite uses of practical effects
Sets and scenery in general works great. The same can,t be said about MK 2021 which is boring and generic as possible.
@@Endru85xKano was pretty awesome though
@@Waltersop He felt like Cage sometimes, but at least he got some personality.Sanada was great choice for Scorpion, and his fights with Sub Zero were nice. The whole rest is ugh divided by meh.
@@WaltersopR.I.P. Trevor Goddard.
@@Endru85x i mean he was funny dirtbag, thats more than game Kano has ever been sadly. Except in snowblind or mk 11 perhaps
11:12 Marcus' laugh at Dan inserting the dad comedian joke here is so genuine and infectious hehe
Agreed!
It's on brand, though. Johnny Cage is super quippy in this movie.
was laughing so hard at 2 am at this exact joke
An adaptation so good the games adopted a lot from it, not just fuggin' lasers, but whole ass characters like Kano's and Shang Tsung's personality and even nationality in Kano's case.
And Johnny personality too. I love when MK9 story began and Cage was like "what kind of weeb cosplay is that?"
tbf, the games at that point didn't have too much story or character other than fighting and with the movie being pop culturally significant, it makes sense to adopt from what non gamers may already know
Marcus’ reaction to Scorpion vs Johnny was amazing
can we appreciate how they put out 2 picture shows within 2 weeks
Well, he tried to release weeks ago the previous one, but, you know, copyright issues
Very unusual, I hope he is ok.
@@Karlach_ I hope you’re okay
This is from awhile back. Notice how Marcus is youthful and full of life here.
"can we appreciate how-" SHUT UP
Still one of the best video game adaptations in the past 30 years!
1995+20=2015
so the OP was correct. Jesus christ i hate unnecessary comments like this.@@First-Name--Last-Name
@@CamJameswell it’s an edited comment so it’s reasonable to assume it originally said past 20 years
@@CamJames dude use your context clues. It’s not that hard to figure out
I think the new one is overall better, but this one is funnier. The uncharted movie is pretty good too.
"If I watched mortal combat when I was a kid, things would be different" Trust me it would've. my mom was a huge fan of mk n introduced me to this movie prob before I could even talk. so this movie was honestly my introduction to mk 😂 the theme song is so memorable cuz of it
She did the Demi-God's work
wow you had a really cool mom, in my case my aunt an uncles were the ones who were mk (and kof) fans.
also i agree with that statement, i already liked mortal kombat enough as a game, but the movie made me care about the story and characters that weren't the ninjas
The response to Raiden in this movie really makes me want to see y'all watch Highlander.
"It's my chain-bers!" got me laughing way harder than it should have
The scene where Tonya smacks people with her mere presences and shotgun flashlight that’s on top of her gun. Priceless. Also Shang Tsungs actor Hams up his performances and he’s my definitive Shang
Have you seen the new Shang Tsung in MK1? He does a really good, young Cary Tagawa-esque performance
@gloomygloomstalker3878 yeah mk1 Shang Tsung is my favorite portrayal of him by far. He's so unabashedly evil and fun. Along with the Cage+Kenshi bromance and Li Mei's story, Shang Tsung stole the show for me.
@@gloomygloomstalker3878 yea I actually saw all of the new MK1 I think there’s some parts that are left to be desired and missing some charm of the original games but that Shang Tsung is very reminiscent of green goblin with that face capture and has the OG voice actor I love him as well
@@gloomygloomstalker3878 I Just think This Shang Tsung is very inspirational and funny to other performances
@@samwoo86 and again, the new one is very much like it, even mk11 (which is actually the same actor as the movie) is pretty on brand
Raiden: “My work here is done”
Johnny: “But you didn’t do anything”
Fun fact but the Reptile v Liu Kang fight wasn’t in the original movie. After early screening of the movie, people complained there was not enough fighting. Love this movie.
the best scene in the movie was a reshoot??
I love how much influence this movie had in the games later down the road, my personal favorite being in MKX (It may have been 11) where Johnny has the autograph moment as his outro
I like how Johnny behaves in NRS games, and wonderful voice acting by Tagawa in MK11. If someone don,t like 95 movie - ok i can,t live with that. But if someone tries to tell me this movie is forgotten and nothing stands out about it, he is plain wrong.
You mean the movie took that from the game. It was originally Johnny Cage's Friendship from the second game, that was made pre-movie.
Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than the hammiest line delivery that is "GIVE IT UP BABY I'VE STUDIED ALL YOUR MOVES" Kano was a such a treasure.
Entertaining movie from start to finish. The opening music alone just gets you excited. Deep Rising is another good one with Kano, Sagat and Jean Grey.
It’s impossible to not get hype to the theme song 😂
Deep Rising is underrated
Paul Anderson directing this movie blew my head off just like Marcus's 😂
I'm surprised the Internet went this long without remixing some of these scenes as a Wes Anderson movie, or a Paul Thomas Anderson movie.
i love how Marcus knows some of the MK lore like toasty but then throws hadoukens out whenever
That Goro effect is still insane to this day.
i remember seeing this in the theater with my dad. he was on the edge of his seat trying to figure out how they accomplished that effect. a very near & dear memory
I mean Goro is ok, but that Reptile effect really holds up, ha ha.
If I'm not mistaken, goro was a practical effect and they had like 4 people on controllers. There was one for each (extra) arm one for the face, and something else. Stuff was wild.
@@colincolin7237 apparently Goro was a pain in the ass to manage especially for the poor guy wearing him who could only be in there 2 minutes because he couldn’t breathe, and apparently Goro was always stuttering or locking up so unfortunately Goro didn’t get as much screentime as they wanted him to, but it was considered a marvel for an animatronic at the time and a lot of effort and money was put into it and it was very complex just the technology wasn’t quite there yet lol
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I still think it's the best MK movie just because it doesn't take itself too seriously but also makes a genuinely good movie with fun characters.
First time I saw it with that final end sting of Raiden getting ready throw down with Shao Kahn had me hyped as fuck
And it still sorta does nearly 30 years later
Goro was made using practical effects which still blows my mind. It makes sense when you see how realistic he looks on screen but its still hard to believe they could pull it off back then
Two picture shows within two weeks? This has to be a cosmonaut miracle
I killed yo dog
Glad you guys are watching the PEAK video game movie XD
Wheelchair bump
I’ve been waiting for this for literal years
Same man
I didn't even exist yet when this movie released and yet I have a two kids and wife.
@@Karlach_time is crazy sometimes
“Air is a little bit cleaner here” made me laughing out loud.
I really feel like people don’t realize and appreciate how good this movie aged in almost 30 yrs. I mean the CGI sometimes feel dated but overall this movie was and still is 🔥🔥🔥.
If it wasn't for the super time specific coreography, you could convince me it came out in the last 15 years and not 29
Having just rewatched the Street Fighter picture show, I'm very pleased that we are finally hitting the other 90's fighting game live action.
Hearing Fear Factory play as Scorpion fights Johnny Cage was pure bliss for my ears 👌.
I still have my Immortals tracks laying around here somewhere, from when they did a whole MK album.
I can’t be the only one who started laughing hysterically when the guy goes for the flying kick just to be killed by sub zero.
I genuinely love this movie, I saw it with my Dad in theaters in 1995. It's so corny, but in the best way and knows exactly what it is. I expected y'all to rip it a new one, but was so pleasantly surprised to see you enjoy it. Sometimes movies can just be fun and that's what this is.
The fact you liked this movie made my day. This was legit my childhood. I was born in 93 and ninjas were my shit I grew up watching this movie 😂
The Highlander doing a Peter Lorre impression the entire movie is a choice that very few actors nowadays would be brave enough to commit to.
Where is his oscar?
He already did in in Highlander 2 and went for a twofer with it lol
thats just his voice lmao
"Okay, Christopher, we loved that movie where you were a French guy playing a Scottish guy, who trained under that Scottish guy playing an Egyptian guy, and fighting that American guy playing a Russian guy!
"So now we want you in this movie with all these colorful characters of different nationalities. Can you play a Chinese god of thunder?"
"... can he be French?"
"We'll compromise. He can be half French, half Hungarian"
Seeing this opening night with a raucous crowd was one of my favorite moviegoing experiences ever. The deafening cheer that went up in the crowd when the Reptile fight started was one for the ages.
Wasn't expecting another picture show so soon truly blessed
It's already my favorite episode
The 90s Power Rangers one was my favorite. Marcus' reactions to the cheesy one liners the Rangers said gave me life XD
I have no idea how Marcus never watched this before, but I love that he totally enjoyed it, cheese and all.
It’s funny seeing Marcus being the confused one along for the ride instead of Dan.
And I am SO excited for the sequel!
I am literally dying laughing at you two’s commentary about Raiden! When he said, “I have nothing left to teach you” my cousin and I literally said the same thing you two said, you didn’t teach us anything! 😂😂😂
As a kid this was probably one of my favorite movies. It was just so cool
French Raiden is such a highlight of this movie
Definitely prefer 95 to the newer one, but my friends never seem to understand why. Tempted to just send them this and call it a day. Also never knew the theme slowed down would be such a banger too. 😂
Ur friends seem like they prefer "newer and more serious" than something that clearly knows it's campy and fun. I do too but what do I know?
Even with the PG-13 rating, this movie still managed to be frigging awesome and 100x better than the new one that came out.
Wait...so you didn't like Cole?
They're still making a sequel to that new one tho
@@Charles12 Oh I know. And I aint seeing it lol
The CGI was so cheap in the new one. 1 million more for production and it could have actually been epic.
@@DPKGreyWho liked him?
Oh my god, I thought that this would never happen, but I’m so glad it did
Watching you guys go from trying to dunk on the movie to sitting in awe as Goro menaces Kano was truly a thing of beauty. I sometimes forget what a wonderful little piece of filmmaking this movie really was. You could really feel the love dripping from every frame.
Don't worry guys, we'll get all the laughs we need when you watch the sequel 🔥
i love dan’s picture shows so much they’re so funny
If you were like me and had the soundtrack to this film, you know how GOATed it was.
Being a huge MK fan, this video made me so damn happy. Thank you so much
The Goro effect was practical and probably the best thing about this movie. Still looks incredible to this day.
In a perfect world, Mortal Kombat II came out in late 1996 and brought back Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Bridget Wilson as Sonya, Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Robin Shou as Liu Kang.
The film opens with a scene before the 1995 film where we see the Great Kung Lao played by Brandon Lee (a traditional looking Shaolin monk) who wins the tournament for Earth as Raiden rejoices until we see Shang Tsung introduce Goro. The time period looks like it's the 1800s or something. Very bizarre. However, it's here where we see Shang Tsung introduce death and the concept of fatalities into the tournament. Shang Tsung was suppose to fight Kung Lao but gets Goro to represent him instead... Lao holds his own against Goro. Then a voice over between Shang Tsung and someone else we are made privy to the fact that in case Outworld lose a match to Earth - they can immediately challenge their champion in a Winner Takes All match. We then see Shang Tsung bowing to... Shao Kahn as we cut to Shang Tsung shouting "Finish Him" to Goro to kill off the Great Kung Lao. Raiden is in absolute shock and becomes furious as we see tears well up in his eyes.
Shang Tsung has just corrupted the great Shaolin tournament forever.
The Story of Mortal Kombat II features a returning cast. Outworld's new warriors are represented by Shao Kahn's Second In Command and General, KINTARO. Kintaro vows to kill the man who killed Goro and is made the same way they made Goro except he is fucking muscular as hell. The forces of evil take on the winners of the last film. When Kintaro is about to kill Johnny Cage, Raiden steps in and is like - fuck this shit, this isn't happening again and just goes full on God mode and obliterates Kintaro. Shao Kahn enraged knows he can't compete against Raiden so he challenges the Great Kung Lao's ancestor - Kung Lao. Kung Lao loses and is left for dead by Kahn, Liu Kang steps in to save his cousin and Raiden bonds the trio together giving Liu Kang all the power he needs to overcome Shao Kahn as he is given the powers of the God of Fire. Liu Kang Vs. Shao Kahn is an epic fight like Goku Vs. Frieza. Liu Kang literally has to unlock his "final form" and is able to move so fast and quick that no human has ever moved like that, Kang ends up beating the shit out of Kahn and ends up throwing like 1000 kicks within two seconds that are so brutal that Kahn is not only defeated but he falls into a deep, deep coma for the rest of his life. Kang restores honor to the tournament vowing that he is not worth killing and the Great Shaolin Tournament is restored. Liu Kang and a recovering Kung Lao meet the Great Kung Lao.
Kitana has a sub-plot with an evil version of herself appearing in the form of Mileena. Scorpion re-appears and is no longer bound by Shang Tsung. Sub-Zero has been resurrected as Noob Saibot and the new Sub-Zero fights for the good guys as he goes against Scorpion and the original Sub-Zero who is now Noob Saibot. The story hints that the original Sub Zero and Scorpion were resurrected by necromancy - but Shang Tsung is dead so he wasn't behind it setting up the plot for the third film with the introduction of Quan Chi... We see the Elder Gods who are seen watching the tournament from the Heavens, they are seated on their respective thrones as we see the Elder God Shinnok angry at Shao Kahn's embarrassing loss.
MORTAL KOMBAT!!! TWO!!!
Cosmonaut would you ever do an Indiana Jones series review? Love your content btw
Its on the list!
I'm so glad you guys liked this film. Mortal Kombat is a classic of my childhood 💯

"I think he's just fucking this kid up"
"That explains why I like it"
So cool seeing two picture shows so soon. They get me ROLLING everytime I watch them.
And Resident Evil is my favorite horror franchise so I’m REALLY looking forward to that. Thanks Marcus and Dan for giving me a new reason to watch UA-cam😂
Marcus is getting real good with these thumbnails. I like it
I love how much they harp and riff of Christopher Lambert’s Raiden voice when _that’s just how he talks_ haha like that’s JUST Christopher Lambert
I watched this in theaters opening night, in the downtown area of my city. As soon as the movie started, someone in the crowd shouted "Mortal Kombaaaat!". Which basically set the mood for the entire theater. Everyone else started cheering, and basically throwing popcorn and screaming at every cameo. It was definitely a blast. Yeah we all knew it was kind of cheesy but we loved it anyways.
I’ve been waiting for this and I didn’t even know this was on the schedule
two picture shows in less than two weeks? we're FEASTING
Two good picture shows in as many weeks? Cool. Thanks y’all. Love you Marcus
Perfect timing, I was binge-watching the Picture show playlist last night. 🎉🎉
My favorite scene was when Raiden warns Liu Kang about Goro being able to beat off 4 dudes at once
I watched this in preparation of the new game, I had just as much fun as they had watching it. The reptile fight still goes very hard.
Y’all should watch Highlander. That movie slaps, has Mr. Krabs as the villain, Sean Connery as a Spaniard with a Scottish accent, and the white haired weirdo from this movie as the hero of the story! Also Queen does the soundtrack. It’s the best.
I really like the design of Sub Zero and Scorpion in this movie. I think they look pretty good and scary considering the other goofy stuff in the movie.
1:52 marcus: *I WANT STREET FIGHTER!!!*
**2 secs later**
**vibes with dan over mortal kombat opening theme music**
I cant believe you guys didnt acknowledge the fact that, during johny cage and scorpion's duel, scorpion goes awol, and then comes back doing a half-assed cartwheel. It's one of my favorite scenes ever.
Thank you for doing this video, it’s an awesome movie🔥
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is so fuckin' good he's iconic. I think he's been brought back for at least the web series and MK11, and there's another actor imitating him in the MK1 game.
Love ur work man
This is the first ad I’ve actually sat through in its entirety 😂😂
I just got my snackbox XL in the mail two days ago and I love it. So cool to see that you got sponsored by them!
I really appreciate this recent content feast!
YOOOO MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gotta say this is one of the most interesting sponsorships I've heard of on a whim! Won't be getting one but an unexpected neat idea
I can’t explain how happy it made me to watch Marcus enjoy this movie it meant so much to me as a kid and I LOVE seeing someone else enjoy it as an adult
I love how instead of making a video essay and explain things about this movie, we just got to watch it together and experience everything ourselves
Honestly this movie will always a special place in my heart, no matter how many times I've watched it
This movie's still a lot of fun. So excited for your reaction to Annihilation! Definitely a so-bad-it's good movie, some moments have to be seen to be believed.
"Mother! You're alive!"
“Too bad YOU, will die!”
15:45 This version of Raiden who looks and sounds like bootleg Geralt of Rivia is able to do an amazing TJ Miller impression 😂
This is phenomenal. I grew up with this movie too and it's iconic, I got all the warm and fuzzies seeing Marcus love it. Also please yes we need a resident evil watch series. Yeeeeeeesss.
before the video even started, I knew you were gonna enjoy this movie... It's genuinely really fun and captures a lot of what I miss about movies of that era. The second one tho... a whole different kinda ride, I tell ya
Seeing Cosmonaut recreate that Soyjack meme is priceless.
Does this mean we're gonna get all the other MK movies too?? Imagine how much better the HBO one would be if they used practical effects instead of dollar store cgi.
Aight that was absolutely delightful. This was my favorite movie as a kid even with how horrifically cheesy it was. The commentary made it so much better. Love you guys and just wait till you watch annihilation 😂
Truly so stoked for part 2
“Jax! Oh wait that’s not Jax.”
Fucking dying, love these Niggas. Classic film.
Two picture shows in two weeks? Sweet
i love seeing these two have so much fun together
i've wanted this video for so long
the fact that there is a guy out there’s who’s sole purpose in life is to make video game adaptation movies fills my heart with such bliss. he just wants to make mid-budget questionably faithful movies!!!
Two guys if you count Uwe Boll
this was definitely an unexpected gem 💎
I love your content, Marcus. This video reminded me to sign up for your Patreon to get more of that sweet, sweet content.
This is one of the best picture shows I've seen yet I can't wait for the second movie.
I can't believe Marcus somehow managed to sit out 30 years of this goofy franchise and only start enjoying the movie now.
