As someone born with Autism growing up bullied and abused by all around me, I find Stoicism fascinating in how it deals with suffering and external things holding control over you. I always felt trapped by how others saw, treated and ostracized me and felt I had no future.
Isn’t it weird that we can control how critical we think of others and turn it off at any moment but when it comes to self critical thoughts it’s very difficult to control?

This is great if you wish to keep the engagement short. But if you have the time and the person in question is willing, I think it's best to start a Socratic dialogue, starting with the question, "What makes you think that?" This fosters introspection, and may not only help them re-evaluate their "stupid" way of thinking, but help correct errors in your thinking as well. After all, you've already admitted that they "could be right."

@bugerpatty. Other people who are rude towards you, and are abusive towards you, are projecting the hatred of themselves, onto you. Defending yourself can be done by not reacting to the others abuse towards you, but also involves learning to speak up/act in response to their ill behaviour; it’s a balancing act, for sure. I simply don't believe in forcing anything. If it flows then great but if I feel myself trying to paddle upstream I stop and visualize letting go of the paddles, then the kayak naturally turns itself back into flow. Making myself actually visualize this really helps bring me back to the present moment. This also extends to people and things outside of my control in that, since I know I can't control them, then I redirect my focus back to how I can best manage myself in the situation to achieve the most peaceful outcome. This helps me ensure that those things don't push or pull me out of my calm because I remember that they aren't my source of it in the first place.

My isolation comes from, yes, a desire to separate from the evil world, but also because I have never felt a part of the world anyway. At 63 I am tired of partaking in something that I see no purpose in fitting into. As far as a happy life - I honestly don't know what that means. I have had periods of excitement and anticipation, but for the most part I have endured life. I am in the middle of purchasing a remote, small house to live out the balance of my life, confronting only what I absolutely have to, which will be minimal. I will not have Internet or phone access and my vision is to fill my days with taking care of what I need to survive and filling my mind with positivity. I want watching a bee to be as interesting as watching a video. I am building a small library of the best things to fill my mind with and a music collection that I will never get tired of. Nothing to do with the topic at hand, I suppose, but I started typing and began rambling.

I like your imagery of the kayak in the water. I think I'll try that. Thank you.
There’s a quote…” your job on this earth is not to make people love you… Your job on this earth is to love yourself” 😉👌🏻
Yet bullies are found to have the highest self-esteem.
And by perfecting (as much as it is possible) a healthy self-love- measured, humble, self-reflective-you inevitably attract others and are thus often loved.

Imagine writing 700 volumes of insight and none of it survives.
I would argue nothing survives. It's just a matter of how long it will take until everything and everyone will be forgotten.
A beautiful example of Memento Mori.
It's perfect that it happened that way. 700 volumes may have been lost, but 700,000 volumes have been created in the vein of rediscovering the meaning of those original volumes.
Imagine being a presidential candidate and not having 35,000 emails survive

Did you ever do this? Can you tell me how it went if you ever read this?
Just as Lord Tywin once said, " A lion doesn't concerns himself with the opinions of the sheep."

@@JLchevz we are😎.
It's a dumb quote. Since, you know, a lion certainly concerns himself with what other LIONS in the pack think.
@@omkarunde2040 no you're not, it's okay to not care what people think, but you don't care not because you're better, but because what they say geniuinely has no power over your state of mind, that's not being better than them, it's just a good mindset to have.
I am surprised you haven’t had more views. As far as I am concerned this is a very beautiful and well done video, it has helped me a lot. Thank you so much for taking the effort of making it. Sometimes they say.. if you can do but one right thing and touch another person it was well worth it. As for me brother yes your video has helped me a lot thank you and to all who helped you.
I’m currently reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. It’s changing my life. Ultimately, ”the material world doesn’t have a hold on the soul”.

In 13 years as a gravedigger and 9 years as a crematory operator I've learned no one is too young to die, there are many ways to die, everyone dies- it's just a matter of time. People say tomorrow is not guaranteed, I say today is not guaranteed.
Absolutely! We are all only one breath away from death.
I think it's a genuine sickness to be that bothered about someone, when you literally have the option to just disengage. 😩
Especially, on UA-cam. People let the slightest comment that just states their opinion actually bother them!
How about it is a noisy neighbor singing in the morning?

@Summerhd420 There's obviously context to everything. I'm speaking more to jealous people... or hateful people who spread rumours about you etc. N it's usually people who don't even know you. N I don't engage in that bullshit! At all. 😝
@Summerhd420 But even then, you have to agree on which God or no God for Atheists, lol. So there goes that theory.
I do not care who likes me, who loves me, who hates me, who does not know me, who wants to know me. As long as people do not touch me nor interact with me, I do not care who feels what about me.
Lmao, why even bother writing this then?
I can't even have pictures of myself displayed on facebook or mention my successes because I expect and know that people, even those closest to me, grow envious in an instant and contemptuous at the first sign of failure. Idiots and lunatics are not beyond bludgeoning you to death simply because you possess something they would want for themselves. And the more attention you draw to yourself, the more at risk you are.
Invisibility is the way. Why make great efforts to relate and associate with disgusting people who care not for your best interest and would slander you with any and all information you provide? Consider isolation and privacy just another sacrifice for the greater good.
Our business is with things that really matter.
