Confucius is such a great philospoher and I totally agree with him. Each one of us is a "diamond in the rough" and through self-cultivation we can transform ourselves into the persons we be want to be and who we really are deep in our core.

For the past 20 years I have been having green tea with dark chocolate and dry fruits 30 min after my dinner. I always look forward to have my tea time. This ritual keeps me content. I cannot imagine my life without my after dinner tea time. Also, every Saturday I go for long walks and mid way I treat myself with a cappuccino at Costa, and just the sound of coffee making at Costa and sense of coffee keeps me calm. :)
Peterson is a Christian apologetic that has contradicting arguments. There are many videos that debunk some of his recorded debate ideas, with others like Sam Harris. He can never put his ideas into simpler terms that are easier to understand, and continuously overcomplicates basic questions when asked to him (i.e Do you believe in God?)
I've discovered the benefits of daily ritual with the quarantine and my life has improved significantly. It's empowering to see self-cultivation as a result of maintaining ritual.
I grew up never knowing that I was different than others due to my Aspergers diagnosis. No one was there to tell me let alone teach me socially. I have a high strung mother, and I learned from her that life was stressful of course her anxiety didn't help matters much. I wanted to be happy but I haven't been most of my life and am tired of it. I'm bitter at my mom for the fact she never grew into a stronger person. I've been bitter and angry for many years of my life. I see my true self buried underneath all this darkness and anger I've carried over these many years. I've repressed emotions for a long time and am tired of having my past be the thing that holds me back.
Good, that You bring forth the immense importance of rituals, big and small, in daily life as well as in community. Nowadays it's not conscious to people in the western world, that we lost most of our "social cement". Individualism has erased the ritual gatherings we used to have throughout the yearthousands, few peaces left here and there like the celebrating of midsummer fex. Celebrating the different seasons give us grounding as human beings remembering our connectedness to Nature. We cannot all like flootball games that much !🌱
Confucius principles: 1)'The self' -Learn about yourself. Think about yourself properly. Know yourself. 2) Set your behavior according to situation. 3)Involve yourself in the rituals. 4)You can change if you follow 'fake it till you make it'.
"Always find the slight sight of light in the dark abyss" a quote I made and followed back then that has been a great part of my journey in life. I was always able to see the positive stuff in every kerfluffle I experience.
I agree that rituals and behavior change is the key to changing yourself. Some changes I've made are becoming an early riser to have time for myself, cutting out junk and eating only healthy food, exercising daily, journaling every night and etc... These rituals have made me feel more happy and at peace with life! ♥️😌
I spent hours and hours, days and years trying to be something I am not, I denied my traits and only focused on what I wanted to be, I realized after a breakdown that I was being unrealistic. I believe in the concept of the false self and how it is a major cause of mental health conditions. I believe you can develop traits and expand your skills, but some things you can spend a lifetime trying to attain and it will never come naturally, not only that but cause psychological issues at the same time.
This is why taoism comes to save the day because it certainly in a way illustrates the reality of how ego can hurt us in all aspects of our live,so to my limited understanding one must embrace taoism to carry on with confucianism because self-progress starts only when the ego dies and we go with the flow.

This is making me motivated to do new things to expand my comfort zone and become better. Too bad it's already 2am and I need to go to sleep. I should start watching these types of videos in the morning along with my coffee. New habit.
A few years back I had a few morning rituals that helped me to through a stressful job. Then I quit the job, eventually, and now I don't "need" the rituals, and started to forget them. But I surely miss them. Not only I miss those rituals, I miss the bit if order my day to day life had, even if my life is much better now. Still not sure how to restart a ritualistic routine in my current moment, tough. Yeah, rituals are important. Great video. Something else: this discrepancy in beliefs, this way of seeing ourselves as something concrete and immutable... I agree, its deeply problematic. Not to mention the connection to misused concepts like "souls", in recent years I consider that it revealed even worse facets, like people who would go under deep surgery or heavy hormonal treatments to forcefully change one's body into something that the person thinks "it is" inside.
I scrolled past this video twice today, both times reading the title as ‘becoming bitter’ and then having to scroll back to confirm what I thought I saw. The actual video was much more insightful! For a while now, I’ve noticed similar patterns in my life that I’ve just chalked up to me being who I am while simultaneously getting frustrated that I am unable to change. My issue has always been talking to people and making connections. I never really did anything about it because I’d talk myself out of social situations often without realising it. I definitely agree with the ‘fake it till you make it’ approach though and have been employing something similar in my life recently to overcome this issue. Sometimes just pretending you’re at least a little bit more confident than you feel can make all the difference.
This!!! This is what I’ve been trying to get the ppl in my life to understand, didn’t know there was a whole “religion” or established philosophy about it.
Einzelganger, you have hit the head of the nail once again, right through my thick ass skull. I’ve been needing to adopt new rituals since intravenous drug use carries its own rituals. In reality, we have these rituals regardless of intent, because we are creatures of habit. Be it morning coffee/evening tea and reflection/planning (stoic) or fixing a rig. Or planning our wardrobe to look like a soccer mom despite our extra curricular activities. Thanks for being part of the grounding experience I have held onto during the last year or so. I hope you will be here in this new state of “attempting to flourish”.

Moving to a new place and changing jobs was not something I was comfortable with, but seeing as how my current situation became stale and limited I see how this path is totally necessary.
Another great video. Thank you. I totally agree with what you are saying here. When I was a professional musician I was just that. Nothing else would distract me with the task in hand. The gigs dried up and it became harder to find a band as the music business, as we knew it at that time, emploded. Now I have taken up Ki Gong and started to teach it. I have been building on my skill set now and am now producing educational webinars and also running a You Tube channel (and this isn't a plug by the way) to help me talk about my new found knowledge. I have been taught through the Tao philosophy from Korea, which originates in Sundo. It seems that the conciusions from all the Asian Eastern countries are much the same in many of there creeds and rituals. Knowwledge is a facinating journey and I look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing. :)
That was exactly what I did, became a globe trotter by myself while pursuing my graduate degrees and working experiences, including almost 5 years in Asia including in China and Japan. Over the years I keenly studied Chinese ancient philosophies. For 2,500 yrs there is this dispute between Taoists and Confucionists, but the more evolved in inner knowledge and refinement did embrace both philosophies, like the ancient Chinese wisdom of the interplay of Yin & Yang. By the way, the Buddhist teaching of no-self supporting Prof. Puett's Confucian rituals is the same of as the Taoism

My cat never works on trying to change herself and she is very happy and content. I have found that trying to change oneself inherent a feeling of self-rejection of who one is. And if one rejects who one is and "what" one is; that feeling brings about negative feelings that projects in one's personality... it prohibits self-love and acceptance. I have found that once one accepts one's self as is; improvements start to show naturally because at that point one isnt working against one's self but from one's self... going with the flow of natural self-expression. .. which could be expressed through rituals ... which becomes a natural manifestation of the self... like my cat sitting at the window every night before she goes to bed. Of course one can improve in natural skills and abilities... but then such things aren't the self. My cat worked to improve her skills but not herself. She doesn't think that there is anything amiss about her (a wise perception) In other words.... YOU are FINE but if you like; you can improve on your skills. Thanks for the video... food for thought. Enjoy your day 😊💖
I threw away pride, and most of my worries left with it. I became free from the thoughts of others and happiness filled the void. I sold all my extra vehicles and traded up for a smaller home. Being labelled as something makes you feel like you have an identity and having an identity allows you to feel special. Filling a role or purpose for society. Not until you realize the person who labelled you consciously or subconsciously has already manipulated you. I believe that cultivation is awareness of something or self then doing something about it. Depends on what fits right to your void or "label"
I've an introverted personality.it's my personal experience that most of the people misunderstood introvert people as they're rude or egoistic person etc so you're saying that we should change ourselves and try to become more people's person(in my case).I'd tried that to become a extrovert person but in that process i didn't become extroverted person but i start loosing myself also and i didn't like that so I've decided not to change myself anymore. Be who you are.
This who you are isn't something we were born with it's a series of experiences from our childhood outside of our control that shaped the personality of the people we are to day. So if I care too much what others think, low self-esteem or I fear being criticized by people which makes me rather prefer staying alone than interracting with other people, it is safe sure but with time it'll become a burden which might to serious problems both mental and physical. Hastag an ex introvert i guess xd
@@rightcliquegod7653 I agree with you that a lot of our personality is shaped by experience, if not most of it. But I do think we are born with certain traits that influence how these experiences shape us. For example someone might be born as a rather sensitive person, and later in life, based on how that sensitivity was nurtured, the person will turn out one way or another. If this persons sensitivity was nurtured and encouraged by their environment, they could perhaps turn out to become a great artist. But if they had to repress that sensitivity because their parents saw sensitivity as weakness, that person might not turn to out a great artist at all. But rather someone bitter, or even aggressive from having had to repress this part of them all of their life. So you turn out with 2 completely different people because of nurture, even though they were born with the same trait.
Its not the ritual that makes you better, its the change. Over time the ritual becomes a habit with no positive outcomes, that's my belief from experience.
I am a spark of infinite that is functioning through this body+mind complex. My true self is the only part of me that wants to grow; I am that which wants to master Congfu. Above all I want to be perfect strong+healthy.
There is always a fixed self as long as we have an individual perspective. Self-improvement wouldn't even be meaningful without a fixed self. Fixed doesn't mean unchanging, it only means there is a central experience that continuously exists across time. We are the continuity of our experience.
Watching your videos always bring peace and calm in me. I hope to do the same to people around me. Thank you so much for making these videos! Greetings from India
Was with you to the end. Telling yourself and convincing yourself that you are another person or strong in the moment is dissociative. Good messages on most parts, but lonely and too smart for your own good can really turn heads on opinion. Keep doing what you do.
Becoming is more important then being, that is some of what i`ve learnt from reading Nietzsche and Heralictus, but after i started to train martial arts, i have slowly but surely found my way back to interests of stoicism, bushido philosophy, and other eastern thought because i do train a martial art that isn`t connected to some philosophy, but i have returned because i do think that reading this type of philosophy will perhaps change my mindset even more. So that my progress will come even faster

"Everything Has It's Beauty, But Not Everyone Sees It.."
- Confucius
Beauty is over rated.
@@Tom-Travels what does that even mean?
that’s such a BS, someone gets cancer it’s ugly and painful and scary, is there any beauty in cancer? -No, only pain and fear and suffering. This BS philosophy gaslights us into thinking that it’s not life it’s us, we can’t see the beauty in everything when in reality there are some things that are absolutely terrible and it’s ok to be negative sometimes.
@@yourtypicalinternetcommenter11 i see yur point, or maybe its not seeing the buety in everything but maybe its seeing opportunities in everything. Or you can always turn ugly things into goods or advantages. Like cancer might be terrible ugly and bad but you can use that opportunity to become healthier and appreciate life more on what really matters.

Thinking of the self as something permanent inevitably leads to suffering. When we cling to something that is impermanent and that thing or concept changes, we experience loss
"we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore is a habit."
I agree!
-Aristotle
As is degredation. Depends what we repeatedly do.
It becomes your nature, once it is a habit.
Everyday we can be better, no matter how slow our pace is. Keep doing the best.

Wherever you go, there you are.
"Be the change you want to see"..Love that statement.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

Confucius is such a great philospoher and I totally agree with him. Each one of us is a "diamond in the rough" and through self-cultivation we can transform ourselves into the persons we be want to be and who we really are deep in our core.
There is something about einzelgänger and his content that you simply can't find in the likes of the pursuit of wonder and school of life. Not that I have any major issues with those channels though I don't really care for school of life. Einzelgänger vids have such a peaceful feeling
It's a vibe. His videos have this aura of calmness.
From my experience this channel have some vibes and genuine aura. While school of life give a lot of good info but does not give us time for self reflection and its visuals is overwhelming.
Eat the meat, spit out the bones, in general.

These videos are like painkillers for my soul
For the past 20 years I have been having green tea with dark chocolate and dry fruits 30 min after my dinner. I always look forward to have my tea time. This ritual keeps me content. I cannot imagine my life without my after dinner tea time. Also, every Saturday I go for long walks and mid way I treat myself with a cappuccino at Costa, and just the sound of coffee making at Costa and sense of coffee keeps me calm. :)

Yes! We all can be better ourselves than yesterday.

Forget your Mom’s shortcomings. We can’t keep blaming others…

We cannot all like flootball games that much !🌱
Confucius principles:
1)'The self' -Learn about yourself.
“Stop focusing on who we are but who we can become” gold👌
Let go go of who you are and stop limiting yourself
Lifelong application of this .. means you become happier and happier
"A holes can become pleasant and kind" laughed out really loud. Btw love your content.
How did you get out
This is why taoism comes to save the day because it certainly in a way illustrates the reality of how ego can hurt us in all aspects of our live,so to my limited understanding one must embrace taoism to carry on with confucianism because self-progress starts only when the ego dies and we go with the flow.
My traits is being lazy, what should i do? 😅😭

Thank you for this video. I’m at an extremely rough time in my life where I’m about to sit my final exams for collage. I feel lonely, abandoned, isolated. Hence why I’ve adapted this “asshole” like mentality, which I realise is getting me nowhere, and leading to me feeling more lonely. This video couldn’t have been recommended at a better time.
The background video is so peaceful that every word goes directly inside our head.

Fake it until you make it !! It's very powerful thing when you have anxiety and fears. Faking is hard first but it will eliminate your fears subsequently and make you calm. When you calm what you feel is happiness !!!

This is making me motivated to do new things to expand my comfort zone and become better. Too bad it's already 2am and I need to go to sleep. I should start watching these types of videos in the morning along with my coffee. New habit.
Confucius is without a doubt my favourite Chinese philosopher, thank you so much for this video.
"Be the change that you want to see."
“A Daoist embraces our natural state and approaches life conformable to the force of nature” this resonates so strong with me
The human soul needs a life of meaning. Chasing happiness will surely lead to the opposite. Meaning is key.
Thank you for this video. With self cultivation and with progress in this endeavour it is important to stay humble.

everyone should watch this im sure it would help many people and give hope to many people to know the power of change is in all of us
That was exactly what I did, became a globe trotter by myself while pursuing my graduate degrees and working experiences, including almost 5 years in Asia including in China and Japan.
When I first saw "how to be a better person" was I moved, dumbfounded, dumbstruck, in awe?

I don't know when have I agreed this much with something on UA-cam. Marvellous work!

That is all our goals ... to simply be who we are .. and keep improving on that
Its not the ritual that makes you better, its the change. Over time the ritual becomes a habit with no positive outcomes, that's my belief from experience.

There is always a fixed self as long as we have an individual perspective. Self-improvement wouldn't even be meaningful without a fixed self. Fixed doesn't mean unchanging, it only means there is a central experience that continuously exists across time. We are the continuity of our experience.
Thankful for your existence.
