Very nice guy, very different approach comparing to any other gear "presenter", you can see he actually respects and connects with those instruments, he actually knows the story behind any spec he talks about and doesn't just bombard you with information.

+treloskitharistas I had the pleasure of being invited to go to the Custom Shop a few times, and the guys there are just like this guy. All of them were super friendly and just loved their craft. A lot of these quirky "limited run" models were just builders messing around making something they thought would be cool.

***** It reminds you that there aren't only excessively advertised "bargain" guitars in this world, most of the guitar presentations and demos actually force you to buy stuff, but that guy seems like he doesn't care if those guitars will sell, he just admires the craftsmanship and passion they required, I like that way of thinking though I can't afford even a mexican tele :P

That 355 is glorious, but it needs an ebony board. The whole point of the 355 was it was the most luxuriant of the luxurious.
Could almost hear the pain in Mike's voice when he said they were still using Richlite on them.

What a great guy, lives for his guitars brilliant!!! The looks on Pete and Mick faces, sooo happy, kids in a sweet shop but I'd be just the same, probably be there till they locked the doors and had to throw me out. Would love to go, just to walk around and take it all in.

Mike's got passion, Anderton's crew has passion, but I was comparing Gibby's display to Fender's display, and couldn't help to think if Gibson is smarting from all the flack on their guitar prices, quality issues, wood importing issues, etc., Even if Fender is far from perfect and has made some bad moves (I'm looking at you, packing in Hamer...) at least they still come out with their best CS work visible for everyone rather than hidden away, and more importantly, they're still looking to do some wild experiments. I personally wouldn't have minded seeing a Gibson Moderne CS model or a Corvus that would have countered Fender's MB Katana. Shame that corporate seems to lack the passion the Gibson Memphis and CS builders have.

+Darragh Tate It will almost certainly be poor sales and/or poor support. Gibson Nashville rather that Gibson Memphis may be largely responsible as they make the majority of the guitars.

Why no promoption of the Tal Farlow,L-5 Wes Montgomery or the other big hollows of your lineup? Too much emphasis on is being made on solid body models. You also need to have some serious price reductions and monitor store inventory so consumers cqan find what they want.

I find it pretty upsetting that you have to get up to the very top of the range before they pay attention to the pots. It's really not that big of an expense. I've changed all of the harnesses in all my gibsons with great results. If you're gonna charge even $1000, the electronics should be on point. I love gibsons wood working and they make beautiful guitars, but I find the electronics to be the weak point

From an aesthetic point of view, those f-holes are far too big on the les paul. Perfect for the other larger-bodied guitars. But if a Les Paul has a noticeably smaller body, common sense dictates that the f hole should be smaller too.

Gibson Nashville should look at this guy for an example. Memphis seems to be getting better, without getting more expensive, heck, they even come across less expensive.
Meanwhile, Nashville's thinking: 'you know what players want? useless f*cking gimmicks, lesser woods and higher prices'. A regular 2016 R9 (4k+) has the same specs as the 2k- Les Paul std. had before '10.

Re: Es-275: "That sounds jazzy to me..." LOL!!!!
Well, despite the cluelessness, Gibson FINALLY came out with modern jazz guitar... Hooray, and welcome to the 21st century!
So why did it take like, JAPAN, to inspire production of this? What are actual pro jazz players in the States... Chopped liver? Jeez!!!
Btw, this guitar has a laminate top, and a 15" lower bout- Essential details which are arguably more accurate/descriptive than saying it's 10% smaller than an L5, with it's 17" lower bout (...How come nobody just says/lists those proper specs online yet?)

  • @PantheonLincoln

Why can't the rest of Gibson be like the Memphis guys?
I know there's a fair degree of marketing spin going on (He's trying to sell product here after all!), but any time he talks about upgrading something, it's in a way that serves to make what's already there, better, rather than adding bells & whistles no one asked for.
