    I remember when Chip Kelly was getting running backs that were 180 pounds to the NFL every year running for a thousand yards at Oregon. He can call an offense. Ryan Day understands he can't be the QB coach and offensive play-caller/offensive coordinator which hurting the program. I'm glad we have some synergy now. The offense will be exciting to watch. #GoBucks

    Ole Chip is a master at personnel groupings and maintaining a balanced attack, to include running the QB to keep defenses honest… Make no mistake about it, he’s going to rely on a power spread offense, while also stretching the field both horizontally and vertically. This is a huge get for OSU, and an undoubted upgrade over Billy O… With the level of talent coming back to Columbus, OSU is the clear favorite to take the chip.

    • @JEMUltramagneticFilms
      @JEMUltramagneticFilms 5 місяців тому

      Agree, good take. Bit of clarity@@AJC1972 Ryan Day did not base his offense off Kelly's. He studied while under Kelly however he learned it (same as Kelly) from the concepts of Randy Walker and Kevin Wilson and the Northwestern spread decades ago. Guess who else based their offense off the same... Urban Meyer (and Bob Stoops). So, Day's concepts are rooted in the same base as Kelly and Urban but add some West coast philosophies like Mesh and Y Cross (same ideals Kelly adopted after his stint in NFL). Ryan's concepts are brilliant and miles ahead of what Kelly does currently.
      His failure can be traced to the abandonment of the core concept that Meyer, Riley, Kelly, Mullen and every disciple of that tree believes in (except Wilson, who after helming Indiana had to rely on execution over hurry up) - SPEED! Meyer and Kelly's success relied on Power Spread based on blazing speed in space. tOSU has steadily gone away from that paradigm. Trey Henderson is a blazer, but we'd be hard press to find another skill player who would clock low 4.3's. Meyers last WR Class (Mclaurin, Dixon, Campbell, Wilson, Olave) all clocked 4.3's at the combine. Skill is still good at WR, but speed still kills. Press man against those guys was a death sentence (and took away TTUN's ability to run exotic coverages), not so much against Egbuka or Fleming (I love them but it's true)
      Kelly will help Ryan take his hands off and be a Head Coach. That's good. Go Bucks!

    I REALLY hope that Chip Kelly’s input can make the run game more consistently a threat. Our run game has been too spotty the last few years. With Howard’s ability to run, our combo of RB’s, and hopefully better schemes the run game should be lethal. Also need to make sure the OL is up to par. There’s still plenty of time to get things ironed out though.

    • @taxisquad11

      Run game does not need to be "lethal", just 40% of the offense

    • @prestonmccoy7097
      @prestonmccoy7097 5 місяців тому

      @@taxisquad11 I disagree. I think it has to be lethal. Like a top 10-15 rushing offense. OSU needs to consistently move the chains on tough downs(which they haven’t done enough the last few years) and keep the defense a bit more off balance. That’s where Howard’s running and an actual threat of RPO comes into play.
      I want to see runs consistently like Dobbins was getting in 2019. Might be a lot to ask for, but OSU needs to be a bit more smash mouth than they’ve been the last two years. I know Treyveon breaks big ones, but it seems to be here and there. It’ll make a world of difference. I’m wiling to bet on that.

    I’d be very surprised if they installed an entirely new offense. It didn’t seem as apparent last year but traditionally, Ryan Day runs one of the best pro style passing schemes in CFB. They aren’t going to throw all of that away. I think for this year we are going to see elements of Chip’s offense mainly in the run game, but I don’t even know if we are going to see the mach speed tempo utilized the whole time. We may see it in bursts like OSU did a few years back under Meyer, but not 100% of the time. I think we’ll still see Howard taking snaps from under center fairly regularly. It should be a good blend and I bet it’s going to look pretty damn prolific.

      Kings no more. With that gutted coaching staff and loss of veteran players, Mich is on the fast track to disaster. Meanwhile, Ohio State reloaded and snagged some of Bama's best players. Oh yeah, they just so happened to sign one of the most innovative minds in all of CFB.
