The newly refined 2.7L High Output Turbo engine in the refreshed 2022 Chevrolet Silverado has been bumped up to 430 foot pounds of torque!! In this video I take a quick test drive just to get my impressions of this newly updated motor. After driving it, I am impressed. It doesn't sound as cool as a V8 but it definitely performs like one.

I get to drive this truck every day and i love it more and more! i'm a contractor in the Toronto area and unless you are pulling large loads like all the time, you do not need more then this truck. still very glad i bought it
Awesome 😎
The biggest difference you'll notice is the ride and handling. The 4 cylinder is significantly lighter and shorter.. the 2.7 sits behind the front axle line. The 2.7 takes bumps better, steering response is better and takes hard stops better.
Yes you explained perfect and it feels exactly like that it feels like driving a suv but it’s a truck
Just got a 2022 2.7 Turbo Custom and absolutely love it thus far. It's only a Custom so it's nothing super fancy but amazing truck for the money. Planned on getting a Colardo Z71 and only paid $35 more per month for the Silverado. No brainer.
I am currently driving 2022 Sierra 1500 elevation with the 2.7 turbo Ohio put engine and I can personally tell you after having this truck for just over A month and a half and 2000 miles later this engine has been amazing. I love torque that’s available in the load of midrange and the gas mileage has consistently been between 17.5 and 19 miles per gallon. It is still rated to toe about 8800 pounds. I don’t miss my 5.3 at all after driving this new truck so far with the 2.7 Turbo high output engine.
I am looking at the GEN3 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss with crewcab, shortbed and the same 2.7L Turbo 4 cylinder gas engine with the High Output 310hp and 430 foot pounds of torque. If it moves the fullsized truck it should really move the much smaller Colorado. I currently have a 21' GMC Canyon crewcab, shortbed with a naturally aspirated V6 and it has 305hp and 276 foot pounds of torque and it moves the Canyon very good and both motors are rated to tow 7000ibs
The MPG isn’t impressive to be honest. I’m looking for 22 city and at least 25-27 highway. It’s about the same as my 2021 5.3 Trailboss
Bub You will have a different opinion when You hit 100K miles and the Engine blows 1
I get 20.5 in my 5.3. If I could better than that in a 2.7 and still be able to tow, I would be on board with the 2.7. Maybe in a few years they will be able to meet my expectations and I’ll probably get one
Does your truck engine have 430lbft of torque or is it the older one? Thank you.
I have a 2021 2.7 silverado, i'm at 30k miles with no issues. I love the truck, I'll definitely get it again. The sound of the motor is the only drawback but I'm not a teenager, I prefer to keep the 1500 in my pocket :D
What do you see for mpg if you don’t mind me asking?
@@thor32382 that's what I'm wondering, because what's the point of getting the 4 cyl if the v8 is just as good or close to the same mpg
The true test of this engine and the lower price point is the total cost of ownership at the 100k mark. Let's see how that 2.7 Turbo holds up at 100k. I have a 2000 Silverado LT Z71 Ext. Cab 4x4 5.3 V8 .... 211k on it. Little to no major problems and I bought it with 101k used for $5200 in 2008. Pretty hard to beat that.
The 2000 ish era of LS, and for that matter, many other vehicles was imo the pinnacle of longevity. I think with strong, mindful maintenance the 2.7 will be alright, but I'm apprehensive it will be par with the older LS engines for longevity. I do think the 2.7 will live long as the new v8s.
I bought two of them for my company three weeks ago. Mpg is 20-24 on average and they have more power than the old v-8’s. This engine is awesome for your average contractor that does a lot of driving. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the info!
Hey put a 20 foot car trailer behind it with 3200lb race car on it. And take off . Buddy tried it . Dealer traded him out of it 2 weeks after purchase.
@@backyardbuilttrucks1 I have a Cummins for towing. This truck is built to drive around with tools like your average contractor.
my 17 f150 5.0 averages 20-22mpg mixture city and highway. Thats calculated at the pump btw. No Turbo, no cylinder deactivation... eight cylinders.
Longevity and reliability?? I'll go with the V8.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 my 2017 coyote 5.0 was a lemon that the dealer had to buy back. It would accelerate on its own. Not good for a truck with 62k miles
Just bought one as a work truck, it's amazing so far!
Awesome! Congrats!!
Very interesting test drive. Even for an old school guy like me. Buyers, take my advice, use quality synthetic oil and change it every three to five thousand miles depending on how much City / highway driving you do. Keep that engine and especially turbo lubricated with cleaner oil. Unless you lease it, then just follow the manufacturer's suggested.
I have a v6 non turbo with port fuel injection. I am still changing the oil every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Also, it is a plug in hybrid so 5,000 miles is more like 2,500 on the engine. Oil changes are cheap and nobody ever regretted getting them done too often.
I have a 2020 Trail Boss with the 6.2 and I change the oil every 6 months or when the computer shows 25-30% oil life left as well. I run Mobile 1 full synthetic. Takes me 45 minutes to change the oil. Also added a catch can and Pulsar LT so my trucks dynamic fuel management is shut off. All 8 cylinders all the time.
I went to a dealership and talked to service manager he did recommend to change the oil at least every 5000 with good quality oil.
Thanks Dave for NOT dogging out this brand new truck. I don’t know why other reviewers want to do this. I just want the truck to be reliable and be comparable to my old 5.3. Was looking at a 2023 Colorado (where the 2.7liter is the only option) but like the Silverado for the room and discounts.
Just bought a 23 crew cab 4x4 believe me that 2.7 is so impressive you really can’t believe it only suggestion is run 91/93 octane fuel and you’ll see the MPG and power it can produce in the Allegheny mountains of western Pennsylvania on the highway at 77/78 mph I get 28 mpg which to me is insane and it’s very torquey it feels like a diesel with gas engine pep. Couldn’t be more happier with it
@@christopherwilson7698
I’ll try the higher octane next fill up. Thanks for the suggestion. I really like my 23 sand dune metallic Silverado trail boss 2.7/8sp. Best driving truck I’ve ever owned.
I bought a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Custom with the 2.7 in it last year the one that has 348 lb/ft its still very impressive even with the 348 lb/ft I’ve had it for about a year now and I absolutely love it. Handled very well in thick snow and it’s pretty much did a few dump runs as well.
Thanks for your feedback!
I just brought a 2022 Silverado with the refreshed front end and let me tell ya, I'm very impressed with the 2.7 liter turbo.
Thank you for the demonstration of the truck. Nice looking.
Hi Dave,
Like your honest product reviews. I have on order a refreshed 22 Silverado LT. I first thought of the 2.7 but checked the Canadian version of EPA mileage estimates and the difference between that and the 5.3 was miniscule. As you said the cost savings will be the initial cost factor and the factory incentives to get the 2.7. I have had the 5.3 in my 14 Silverado and my current 17 Sierra. I figured I would get the 5.3 so I figured if I was paying $2000 for the 5.3 I would go for the extra and get the 3.0. I don't tow heavy weights but I think the 3.0 will give a better driving experience not to mention the better fuel economy despite the current diesel prices. I saw a UA-cam video of changing the oil on the 2 7, the plastic drain plug was a red flag for me. As you mentioned there is the turbo lag, I had a 84 Dodge Daytona with a turbo, also I think the 10 speed is a better transmission. The 2.7 might be a great engine but there will be the stigma of a 4 cyl in a full size truck. I am guessing down the road unless there is some major reliability issue with the 3.0 that a truck with either a 5.3 or 3.0 will have a higher resale than a 2.7. Great honest reviews we need more honest and knowledgeable sales professionals like you certainly in Canada.👍
That 3.0L is a great engine.. You'll pay a little more for diesel but it will make up for it on the highway.. There are people out there saying they are getting upwards of 28-30 MPG on the highway
@@DaveBsellsChevy I am thinking the same once things settle down diesel will eventually come down, where I live in Ontario it was usually an 8 cents differential so definitely a bit of gouging going on. The maintenance isn't that much more for oil and fuel filter and a litres of def. At first I was concerned about the long start issue and the belt in the rear doesn't bother me. My saleman ordered a RST 3.0. His order went in the same time as mine so we are both into week 9. Originally the plan was to build Silverados sold in Canada to be made at the Oshawa plant but from what I gather for some unknown reason they haven't built one yet. Having another plant that could crank out 1000 a day would certainly help. I am hoping to see the new truck by the beginning of June and where it's assembled will be a surprise. GM Oshawa consistently won awards for quality so in a way I was hoping to have it built there, with no offense to Fort Wayne, my Sierra was built there and it's been flawless. By the way I ordered my truck in Red Hot, like the truck in your video. My last 2 trucks were black, couldn't take another black. I liked the Glacier Blue but it's a fad colour that would wear off in time. Look forward to your videos Dave, glad I found the channel. 👍
Go with the 6.2 😎
i just bought a 22' LT crew 4x4 and mine gets 21mpg. Today we went around the lake and it got 23mpg driving normal not light footed. 18mpg is when one is running it hard in town. Motor gets best mpg when its completely warmed up
What rpm u running at cuz I drive I feel like normal idk and I’m getting about 15 mpg
@@bobbyo2627 deal is tires and wheels. I had stock aluminum 17 or 18 inch wheels and 4 ply tires
One justification of the turbo 4 is higher altitude, I’m not surprised if this engine makes much more torque than the v8 at higher altitude
perfect motor for the next gen colorado
agreed
I’ve got one. Tows the boat well and is spacious. All we need. Love to have a v8. Don’t need the extra price.
I have the 2.7 liter turbo Silverado 2022
I get 15 in city and 24 highway
Probably combine 20
They are fast I had no issues with mine what so ever.
But cheaper insurance as well depending on your history of course.
The turbo sound on the Silverado sounds louder 🤷🏽♂️
I think the turbo engine is pretty awesome. Might be something they do on the Tahoe/Suburban as an Option-able engine, using a twin turbo like the Expedition.
Leased a 2.7 Custom for my business last week. It tows better than anything I’ve towed with before, including my 99 Tahoe with the 350. Surprisingly smooth and quiet for a 4 cylinder. It’s a lease so I’m not too concerned about reliability. And I have a GX460 so if I want to drive a V8 I’ll drive that 😂
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 👍
Like the concept of the 2.7 litre engine. My only concern with these direct injection systems is carbon build up.
That means I don’t want it …
You could install a catch can. I used one before on my ford when I had it.
I’ve been using Lucas fuel injector cleaner every other tankful for the fuel injector. And putting Tectron gas additive every oil change, If that doesn’t keep your engine clean from carbon build up, I don’t know what will.
I bet the “real world” city mileage is a lot better than the EPA city cycle. Also, good for people that sit in their trucks with the engines idling for air conditioning / heat. You are probably using almost half the gas idling ~0.125 to 0.25 gallons an hour less compared to the V8.
I just bought one a month ago. I’m averaging 22.8 mpg. I drive about 75% highway.
If you're just looking for a truck to have one you might like it. If you need to actually haul anything, including a family, you will find a V8 will get you better performance with less throttle. As far as gas mileage I would say it's negligible. It seems to waste more gas and always races the engine like you're forcing it to work. Shame they didn't go with a V6 turbo instead.
I haven't actually checked the mileage officially but the truck computer says I got 29.6 mi per gallon on the highway a couple of times.
I had the 2020 2.7l custom. And that clunk noise was annoying when going down a hill. I called the dealership and they said it was normal. I waited three months and traded it in for a 5.3l trail boss. The dealership was like wasn’t you just here. But besides that it’s a nice truck. That clunking definitely is coming from the transmission.
Sounds like you just wanted the 5.3 lol.
@@calebniederhofer6529 yes I kind of did I got on the highway trying to pull away from this ford truck and it felt like I was going backwards.
@@Ced1993 I am a Ford guy myself. I have a second gen 2.7, and it is a dang good motor. You should definitely test drive one.
you can certainly hear that turbo whistle
they pumped up the turbo spool noise which i think was a good call - mini diesel noise!
I'm thinking that this engine in GM's 2022 refresh single cab, standard bed will be a winner.
Curious why GM decided to keep the 8 speed with this truck, it seems the 10 speed is superior based on everything I've seen. Seems like the 2.7L is perfectly adequate for most people... It'll just be a pride matter of "can I live without a V8".
I've owned V8 Chevys all my life (and I'm 66 now) and always said I'd never drive a 4 cylinder truck. After watching some of these videos and reading a lot of good things about the 2.7 turbo, it might just be time to reconsider.
The 8 speed is better, 10 speed had lots of problems in the past, even ford had 10 speed problems. I have not read any complaints regarding this engine by customers, only positive things. The newer GM 8 cylinder engines, well good luck because they don’t make them like they used to.
@@joeshmoe8952 I think they did iron out the 8 speed but I remember initially there being a good number of issues. I personally don't get the whole race for more gears trend... I love the older 6L80 6 speed more than both.
And yep, GM seems to screw up the small block each generation after fixing it somewhat... First AFM in the Gen IV, mostly fixed by 2013, and now more complex than ever with Dynamic fuel management. I shut it off on my 2007 and 2013. More fuel saving tech that just causes more problems.
I regularly put my ATV in the back of my truck with other stuff well over 1,000 lbs and drive it good distances. Think I will stay with the 8 cylinder. ‘Softer Torque” made that decision pretty easy.
Can your v8 tow 9,000 pounds like the 2.7L?
Beautiful truck but I noticed it needed gas when you do first time filling it up I’m guessing $98 and as always another awesome video Dave B 👍
Liked your review. Never had a full size truck. Now that im retiring soon a simple week to week and occasional road trip full size truck like this Silverado sounds great. With 4x4 of course. Dont need to tow haul or speed for any reason. Just cruise with a pretty looking truck. Now if there is one out there not more than $50k.
Love all the turbo sounds! 🐌
Yeah my 2019 trailboss w a 5.3 is just perfect. If u actually use it for work… Im surprised at the very small difference in gas mileage. One of those “why Chevy” things.
I actually like the sound. The turbo sounds good.
Perfect truck for 90% of truck buyers who use it to get groceries.
Also, here in Quebec, we pay additional taxes each year for registration for vehicles over 4.0L.
Roughly 350$ for 5.3L and 400$ for 6.2L so that's another saving point
I drive to and from work, cruising, go to the gym and go to the grocery store and occasionally go out of town I never tow
I like your test drives, very informative.
Very Informative video. I’m about to buy a truck this month and I’m very wish washy between the 5.3 and this 2.7. You have my mind spinning. LOL.
In my opinion you really can't go wrong either way
Drive both back to back, I went with the 2.7
Kind of glad we got our 2021 2.7 when we did. The gas mileage is most of the point for us, the extra torque and worse mileage are both undesired changes.
What do you typically average?
@@Ultratron100 Getting around 23-24 average right now, was just a smidge under 20 in winter. It’s a Crew Cab 4x4 short box
@@FMC1239 That's great mileage. Thanks.
@@FMC1239 You wouldn’t be getting that mixed, unless it was all highway.
@@calebniederhofer6529 almost always get closer to the highway rating on my cars, most of our driving is 35-50 mph country back roads.
I have an Ecoboost F150 and I get 18 to 20 mpg consistently. Why would I buy a 4 cylinder?
Planning on a 2025 Colorado with this engine and a 10 spd when they've bumped it to 350/475 and getting 30 mpg. A tune and down pipe and viola-425/525/35 mpg.
After seeing the truck with the upgraded dash and center screen, this truck looks like 2015 and I am not a fan had I not seen that red truck I would be cool with the analog gages.
I'm still hoping ND praying for gm to put that motor in a colorado. I'd buy that!!!
Dealer told me they are. Can't remember if he said after 23 or 24 the Colorado won't have the 3.6 anymore
They should redesign the Colorado and canyon and make this engine with it, but keep the V6 as an option.
Seems like a pretty good option with a 4wd not towing much. My ‘17 5.3 2wd regular cab short bed averages 20-22mpg on the highway so i could see it getting close to 30 in that configuration with the 2.7
You want the 3.0 eco-diesel from dodge, that actually gets close to 30mpg on the highway
try 19-20 mpg Goober

That's awesome mileage in the 6.2L!
@@DaveBsellsChevy I was honestly shocked myself and that was at 125kph (77mph). I also live in Saskatchewan where it’s flat as a pancake 🥞
Thank you. Real world most people just don't get in the car and gun-it. Other car reviews are not very practical.
mine are
As stated in other comments it’s an inline 6 Diesel engine. I have the 2021 Silverado RST crew cab with 4WD and Z71 package and have averaged at 29.3 mpg in 23.5K miles so far.
Start stop works with a firm press on the brake paddle while at lights if you use a light push on the paddle it isn’t supposed to activate
Sounds like a little diesel. I own one and love it. Lots of grunt, good acceleration, so-so mileage, comfort is good for me. I am taking mine out in a little bit when the sun dips down to test the new headlight bulbs I installed.... :D
I think saying the turbo "sounds tiny" was a mis-statement though. I have owned turbo minis, hondas, saabs and other cars... THOSE turbos sound tiny. The turbo on the turbomax engine dominates the sound to some extent. Try rolling down your windows while driving down a suburban street and listen to your truck.
That's what they're doing. Quicker shifting in these turbo 4s which meets the torque ranges.
I haven’t heard anything bad from these engines. They’ve been out for a few years already & lots of people say they haven’t had any issues from the 4 cylinder turbo engine.
20 mpg highway according to EPA is not an issue?
@noseyneighbor It is a four cylinder not a V-8 dummy......the Ford 5.0 V-8 is more powerful and gets 15% better mileage. The GM 5.3 V-8 gets same mileage. Go do some research instead of making comments you know nothing about Goober.
I would be towing a boat 3300lbs max, a few times a year. Is it worth buying
I would buy Fords 2.7 over this. It is well proven, and amazing motor. I own one. It was improved with the second generation.
It will tow your boat no problem.
People in the comment section don't realize that Ford has the F-150 in a 4 cylinder engine. Some people don't do a lot of towing and hauling; they just want a simple, basic pickup.
Ford does not make a 4 cylinder 150. It’s the same displacement engine as this, but it is a 6.
Ford has a 2.3 EcoBoost 4-cylinder in their Ranger, but their F-150 has the NA 3.3 6, the 2.7 6, the 3.0 diesel 6, and the 5.0 8.
I agree I think the engine sounds like a tractor and almost reminds me of a Diesel engine too
It kinda sounds like the 3.0l diesel

Put some trailer weight behind you Dave I think you will be very surprised 😉. For me, I have never owned a good 4-cyl GM vehicle. Last one was a 2010 Equinox that drank a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and GM said “that was normal.” I drove it until 80,000 miles, traded it in, next week got letter from GM saying “bad piston rings were in my vehicle and recalled it.” 😂. To bad for me. Peace
This engine is leagues different then a 4 cylinder motor on a Equinox. You can’t make that kind of comparison. That’s like comparing my Ford 2.7 to a fusion V6 lol.
I doubt if this engine will hold up compared to a 8 over say 200,000 or 300,000 miles. The transmission will work harder too . Most people who buy pickups tend to keep them till they die and don't trade them every 3 years... so long term reliability is very important for truck buyers.
Time will tell.
Very true. But I'll trust this 2.7 over any of the EV pickups in -50F driving.
Gotta love the keyboard engineers predicting reliability. Lol.
@@SkippyPB. naturally aspirated V8 vs a tiny 4 cylinder turbo stuffed with massive torque. I think you can predict which one will last longer
Not really, most people change trucks like changing a phone just because the new model has more bells and whistles.

Dave, I know I'm late to the video, but if you do see this comment..... you'd be a very good Car/Truck reviewer if selling vehicles for you didn't work out, (haha... I'm kidding, you've done great)! Seriously though, great video and I had no idea what one of these 2.7s was like until now!

Never buy a vehicle with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and expect some day that you will get that good old V-8 rumble with some type of aftermarket exhaust. Just get the V-8 and be done with it. I write this as a person who installed a Borla cat-back exhaust on a Mustang V-6 and traded it in for a Mustang GT after 3 years.
agreed... stock exhaust is the way to keep it.
Is that fuel economy number correct? Can’t be. Why the heck would anyone buy the 4cyl?
Pretty dumb… less weight, less money, maybe 🤔
As per the window sticker 16/18 (4wd and Trail Boss tires) if you went 2wd LT model it is rated at 19/22
I’m getting 22-23 hwy
Less weight means more payload capacity. My payload capacity is almost 2,000 lbs. it’s a 4x4.
Less maintenance cost than an 8 cylinder.
9,000 lbs towing
And I'm getting 19/23 in an 18 6.
Boy those GM engineers really have a great idea. Wonder where they got the idea of a turbo charged 2.7 liter from. Hmmm!
I get it, the 4 pot is superior to Ford's small Ecoboost v6...But $50k+ w/ oldest looking interior in segment is rough. just my .02
Superior to the 2.7EB ? What crack pile are you smoking ? Yeah this little 4 cylinder is pretty stout . But it’s still slower than Fords 2.7
I have the 2024 2.7 Turbo Elevation, On two occasions from a stopped position I attempted to accelerate, The engine popped out of gear from Drive to Low. Has that happened to anyone else with this engine?
No but my 23’ 2.7 slips out of reverse into neutral every so often. Quite annoying.
This trim/engine is what I'm after. Thanks for the review. I bet it will get 25mpg cruising at 60.
So..is that clunk normal or not?
Not sure about that clunk.. only felt it that one time
It should defiantly do 25 at 60. My 6.2 does 25-30 when level at 60. The 8 speed from what I’ve heard is a little clunky at times but has been improved since it’s debut. I think these little engines are great and widely over looked. Just my 2¢
what is that high pitch whining the engine made?
2.7 turbo will add so much pressure to engine that the car wont last 100 k miles without crazy problems
Keyboard engineer.
@@SkippyPB. ask scoooooty kilmer
It's tru 💘
Drivers will be forcing this thing when it's full or barely full with 6,000 RPM 7,000 RPM that will tear it apart from the inside eventually
Too bad didn't go the Toyota route put a hybrid ev motor and pair it with the 2.7 and leave the turbo out of the equation
@@ComicKish as soon as you mentioned Scotty Kilmer, your credibility is lost.
"a feel for the sound"
I Demoed one with the 2.7 liter you can keep it.
Detuned Kubota .... but i'd MUCH rather have a Kubota engine in it... it will last... that ain't going to!!
Chevy recommends 91 octane or better to get 430lb ft of torque
The fact that it’s a trailboss hurts the fuel economy
Agree. The stock Silverado is very tall to begin with. Park an 90 model next to and its hilarious
I see lowriders becoming more popular.
Do you guys think I can town my 4800 lbs travel trailer ?
Great engine, but judging by that clunk at 6:45 - the so called re-tuned transmission - has the same problems the 8 speed has always had.
I just recently traded my 21 with the 2.7 away because of the issues I had with the transmission.
@noseyneighbor I'd suggest re-reading my original post.
Be interesting to see what towing is like.
I have a 2022 LTD (348 torque). Had a 2007 Z71 with the 5.3. We take our camper, (9,500lbs GVW), about 4-5 times a year. First time 2 weeks ago with the new truck. I can tell you that this truck out pulls the 07 by far. I was very skeptical at first with the 2.7, but am now very impressed, and for the record, I'm a Chevy V8 guy. I was waiting on the new 2022 "REFRESHED" to come out, unfortunately, after 260,000 miles on the 07, it was time, frame rust.
I'm getting 25 MPG on the Interstate holding 70MPH.
I am not disappointed with this truck at all, well not until the 28th of the month when the payment is due anyway. But with the current economy, what are you going to do. Used trucks were running close to the price of new one, (comparable with low mileage).
I have the 2021 model with the 2.7L, in my opinion to not get better gas mileage out of this motor is a waste. I'm averaging between 19-20 mpg. How you drive is important, but for this mileage I would just get the V8....
Any new news on the 6cyl diesel?
Not a big fan of the small engines but the truck is nice the front looks mean I’m happy with my 2020 but I might change out the headlights and the grill for the one on this 2.7
Can you get heating seat in this model?
No way I would buy a 4 banger full size truck!
Auto stop/start I think you need to have your seatbelt on. It’s really annoying 🤣
My MDX was the same way
My fathers 2018 brand new z71 was under 40 grand for the 5.3. This cost 10 grand more and is a shell of a truck. Shame shame Chevy. Even fords 2.7 gets 24 mpg… this gets 18mpg? Also even the tremors 3.5 liter gets 20 mpg and has quite a bit more power and torque… how is Chevy even selling this?
all depends on the package you buy and where you buy it our 2022 WT with the 2.7 turbo costed 42k bought it with 5 miles on the truck and I will say this engine is great
@@joshnadamproduction true. I think the 2.7 is good if you just need a family vehicle with truck capability but I’m just not a fan of smaller engines even if they are more fuel efficient at times
I'm impressed with this motor. Add electric to it to get 30mpg. There's room. Biggest question I have is durability. I've heard about the engineers tearing down the little Duramax at over 200k and being impressed with little wear and even the rear belt system. But I haven't heard the same about 2.7. will the turbo go to 370k like I've done with 5.3?
A 5.3 will have issues at 370k lol. 99% of people, will never drive it that far. Also rebuilding a turbo a 150k plus, Is not a big deal really. The current gen 5.3 motors with AFM have not been that reliable. I have seen a lot of issues at under a 100k. I am a Ford guy myself, and believe the 2.7 and 3.5 are the best engines in a 1/2 ton truck. I own a second gen EB 2.7 myself.
Newer 5.3 and 6.2 are lucky to get 70K miles...LOL.....junk.....
@@calebniederhofer6529I own or have owned both 2.7’s, and I think they’re the best motors Ford makes. Strong for their displacement, and, with 4-5k mile oil changes, are extremely reliable.
Those little motors are beasts!
I hope we will be able to say the same about GM.
How much towing can you do with this engine 2wd version?
Believe it or not, the 2.7 2WD can tow 9k lbs.
Side Note, when are you expecting the electric Silverados to start shipping?
I believe the first RST “First Edition”’s are supposed to start arriving fall 2023?
How do I know if I have the high output engine? I have the 2.7L T
It is in the 2022 Refreshed models, not the LTD's
So it’s like a half ton diesel? Ok HP, lots of low end torque?
Significant amount of low end torque. It starts hitting the torque spectrum at 1500.
Thankful they let you here the turbo noises lol
