Would you like to see more videos with Rich's Dad? Let us know what you would like to see next in the series and why and hopefully Rich can persuade him!
As somebody who is starting his third year on a mountain bike and is hitting 50 in a few months. I spent the spring and summer almost exclusively at the pump track learning to jump on a DJ. In the fall I took it to the bike park on a DH rig, and OMG it paid off! At my age repetition is key. I love everything about this video. You can teach an old dog new tricks!
50 in a couple weeks and 1.5 yrs into my mtb reboot. Didn’t think I would get two wheels off the ground, but I’ve started to get the taste. Maybe Rich’s dad can tow me in…
47 here, and 3 years on the bike coming summer. I started last year May adding the pumptrack to my weekly routine! Didn’t miss a week. I absolutely love the place. Aiming to clear my first double this year, but have to be patient. Indeed, repetition is key!
57 here. Relearning the pumping flow, riding my mtb/bmx conversion at the local skate park with small jumps and tail whips on the hips. Getting a little more air over time. Loads of fun. Used to skateboard and bmx way back and that exp helped. Would like to try a decent dirt jumper or go to a bike park like in this video.
As I said in a previous comment - approaching my 60's & am clearing 40ft gaps & big drops. Whale tale features like at Twisted Oaks have also been conquered. Don't ever use the excuse of being too old to do a feature cos that's just BS. If you're too scared or too unfit then just say that you're too scared or too unfit - there's no shame in that but at least it's honest. It's not age that's the problem. I know guys in their 30's & 40's who say they're too old for this or that & it boils my pi$$.
Fair play to you Rich's dad, fair play :-). After many years off a bike, I've managed to convince my 73 year old dad to get an ebike - he absolutely loves it!. Really hope I'm still able to ride in my later years!
I took up jogging at 44 to lose some weight and got addicted real quick. FF 25 years: I ran 7 miles on my 70th birthday and that was my last run. Had to quit running because of some nerve problems in a leg. I was despondent. Then I had a thought. We had an old Schwinn Walmart hard tail in the garage. It had been our son’s bike, and when he died several years ago I’d parked it in the garage, where it had gathered dust ever since. I took it to the local bike shop, spent a little money bringing it up to snuff, and went for a spin. The rest is predictable. I started riding every day, no bike parks but cutting through the woods and riding on country roads. After a year I pulled the trigger and got a Polygon dual-suspension bike, love it, and am looking for more adventurous trails. I’ll never do the stuff I see here on UA-cam because I’m 71 years old and not crazy - surgeries on one foot, one knee, both shoulders, and two different parts of my spine so far, and I don’t want any more. But small jumps and drops are ok, and flowy stuff is a blast. I wish I’d started doing this earlier. I see people my age and younger who look like they’re ready for some embalming fluid, and it’s sad. They can have their mobility scooters and wheelchairs. I’ll stick with two wheels as long as I can.
That was super cool. I love seeing a Father and Son having so much fun together. Just goes to show you that you're never too old to send it. 🔥🤙🏻 Keep those videos coming.
Lots of dudes your age and older in the states that are very competent. They tend to be in great shape and have had lifelong passions for alpine skiing, x-country skiing and such before discovering mountain biking.
Welcome to the dark side Anthony, a little advice- armor up if going to get on serious trails/proper helmet, gloves, arm and knee protection, eyewear and a hydration backpack (offers spine protection) I’ve had a lot of bad crashes, but I’m here to still give advice😉
Love the video and would like to see more. I am 69 and hit the trails every week, my attempts at jumping have the same result as your dads. I refuse to go to an ebike whilst I can still ride up hill and earn the right to come down.
hell yes, I am 62 and bought my first dirt jumper in spring 2021 In spite of its best efforts to break me I am having the time of my life more dad shredding! OGR
As a 58 yr old mtb/gravel/road cyclists snd motorcyclist who has had 2 big mtb crashes in the last year, am very slowly recovering my confidence, and fitness. Jumping remains a big confidence challenge. So enjoyed this. Great t shirt.
I loved that.... "slap behind the head" followed by " don't you talk to me like that." Awesome dad son relationship. Proud of you dad, you raised a decent young man. I really enjoy his videos.
Bloody brilliant. The FIL moves my way soon and I want to drag him out on our local trails. This is just the positive motivation we need. Rich, your Dad is brilliant.
I am much younger than your father and have been hesitating to get into mountain biking despite years of interest. It's just hard to know where to start as an absolute beginner. It's generally a young mans game, and you don't see much representation of older riders. Seeing your old man do this is inspiring; maybe I can do it too.
Penty of older riders, I'm 59 and the folk i go out with are 59, 65 and 70. you don't need to go mad, just go for a pedal round the woods and there you are. :)
Mountain biking doesn’t have an age limit, get yourself a nice dual suspension bike, don’t need anything big and just ride at your pace, who cares if your slow, it’s about the enjoyment.
Go for it Simian. I'm 60 and not that fit, but getting fitter thanks to the bike. I totally love it. If you can find a local trail park you may be able to hire a bike for the day and try a green trail to begin with.
Stay scared, stay on the ground and stay safe. You should've started 50 years ago, all you're doing is risking is serious injury for what will still be some pathetic little jumps, not worth it...
I love this!!! I want to see more of your dad biking. My pops is 70 and just started getting into it and loves MTBing. Having videos like these showing the progression of older MTB riders is pretty vital to inspire others their age I think!
I love your riding with dad videos. I'm recently retired and love seeing seasoned folks riding. You and your dad are a comedic pair that's fun to watch.
As a 70-year-old it is nice to see some inspirational videos from another rider, who like me, is almost as old as the dirt we ride on. I would like to see a beginner video starring your dad and Blake's wife.
After a replacement knee I started mountain biking at the age of 63, I am 65 now and love watching these fun/tutorial videos. I have visited Gisbourne forest on 3 occasions and have attempted a couple of easy jumps. Unfortunately I have ended up with 2 broken ribs and a dislocated kneecap but thanks to your videos I will never give up trying. Thank you.
Rich you're so lucky to have a Dad willing to spend time sharing your interests with you 🙌 absolutely cherish every moment. And fair play for being a good sport Mr Payne!
Beautiful video! Biking is about fun, and watching you both, my heart was joyfully jumping all the time. Please, more of this! And many greetings to your dad, what a cool dude!
Amazing! Lost my Dad this year, and he would have done a video like this in a minute! Congrats to you guys having fun with this. Good on Dad and proud of him!!!
Would love to see more videos of these two!! Must admit this had got to be one of the best mtb videos I’ve seen, rich’s dad is a true legend Well done mate 👍🏻👍🏻
We´re usually used to see someone´s dad teaching his son how to use a bike but seeing Rich teaching bike techniques to his dad... it was beautiful!. I really loved this video, perhaps it was intended to inspire older people to try new tricks but I saw something more, something warmer, so sincere and so human; Rich and his dad have an special connection, some of us would give everything to have such an experience. Of course I'd love to see more videos like this. 👏
Hey, @Ramses Alonso! We totally agree with you! It was great to see Rich and his Dad out on the trails just having a good laugh! Thank you for your kind words and support! Safe Riding! 👍
Loved every bit of this video. I'm just starting to mountain bike in my 50's, wish I had started earlier. I love the relationship you have with your father. Cheers.
What a privilege to have a shred with your dad. The jumps on Willy Waver would have been better for him though as they are easier. Best flow trail in the country
I am 58 yrs and I still throw myself down a mountain as much as possible so I hope Rich's Pop like's the intro cuz the more time spent in the air is the most fun.....live long and shred big!
i started mountain biking three years ago. I"ll be 64 in May of this year. I wish I had started at 15. Shortly after my birthday, I am going to Mountain Bike Ninja school in North Carolina for jumping and advanced trail riding. Thus far, the most difficult trails I have ridden are "mild" blues. Bravo to your dad. Keep going, Dad!
That looked to be a really fun day out with your dad; kudos to you for putting him on an excellent bike. BPW has some beautiful forested areas. It seems to be a fantastic park. Great video!
Loved this video, great to see you are never too old to get out on the bike! Also Rich's Dad is a legend! "I'd rather have 50 shades of grey" CLASSIC :)
Absolutely precious! Great to see your dad and you having fun at a bike park. At 74 years old and still riding mtb (almost 40 years of riding and racing), I find that repetition really helps. Would love to see a follow-up where dad gets a better feel for jumping. Using the same course is fine; so, he can get more comfortable. Yes, I am still jumping at 74; but, not so high...LOL
Great video; The fun and laughter along with your Father's progression made for an enjoyable view. Good to see that there's still more to learn/accomplish for us older guys.
Maaaan I can't watch these father and son videos, it just crushes me to have lost my dad and missed the oportunity some people still have to share with theirs.

Sure, my dad skis into his 90's, not big air or anything but not much different!
Yes! Love this series.
Yes! Please make this into a series! :)
Yes, as a 61-year-old with a new full sus bike, I need a lot more of these.
Yes! Yessss! YESSSSSSSS!

52 here. Spent the last year learning to jump in Bentonville AR and at a new pair of progressive trails recently built nearby.
50 in a couple weeks and 1.5 yrs into my mtb reboot. Didn’t think I would get two wheels off the ground, but I’ve started to get the taste. Maybe Rich’s dad can tow me in…

And there folks is the 100% ,gold plated positiveness of ebiking . Brilliant. 👍
"Willy waver ?" "We won't even find it!" - Rich's Dad straight in with UA-cam's greatest line of the year !! What an absolute star
This is wholesome 🥺. His dad seems like a proper laugh! 😄
I just simply love the presenter/dad thing! I giggeled multiple times during this video :) Kudos to Rich´s dad for beeing a good sport!
Best riding buddy is to ride with your dad and have some fun and laugh, best thing in the world🥰

With an e-bike you can do it multiple times 😉
I am 70 and no electric motorbikes for me!!!
Loved seeing father & son in a role reversal learning to ride jumps. Rich, cherish these times with your dad, as I'm sure you do.
I love it when he calls his dad "father"
This is such a wholesome video. Gotta love the bond between the son and father❤️
Man, wish I had a relationship like that with my dad. That was a great watch. So much fun to see the old dog learning new tricks.
hell yes, I am 62 and bought my first dirt jumper in spring 2021 In spite of its best efforts to break me I am having the time of my life more dad shredding! OGR

It's generally a young mans game, and you don't see much representation of older riders. Seeing your old man do this is inspiring; maybe I can do it too.
Of course you can! Start small and flat and take it from there. Full suspension helps as well. Good luck finding a bike. Go ride!
Penty of older riders, I'm 59 and the folk i go out with are 59, 65 and 70. you don't need to go mad, just go for a pedal round the woods and there you are. :)

I'd love a jumping lesson with Rich - such a good coach
