"As a performer, I work as a mirror." "So whatever you're giving me, I give it back to you, ten-fold." "Cuz that's how mirrors can work." "When all this love is coming to you, and all this projection is coming to you, and all this stuff, is coming to you; what an audience really is doing is, they wanna give to themselves. Performers do have this power. They can keep what you're giving them. And not give it back. It's how you think: you can stop the wheel. You have to keep the wheel going. Which is, In Take, Out Take."
I owned this video when I was 14. Now I'm about the age she was during Little Earthquakes. I adored it then, but I can really feel the significance of it now. Her intelligence, her insight, is so advanced and always has been. Thanks for posting this treasure.
I have always thought, in listening to both her music and her speaking in interviews, that Tori thinks on another level- she’s so absolutely brilliant, that the way she pulls words together to translate her thoughts or feelings is sometimes misunderstood as something that doesn’t make sense. But it does- it makes perfect, beautiful sense. I love listening to her talk. Everything she feels or remembers she can describe it in the most passionate, strange, and intricate way. She’s just otherworldly brilliant.
I started listening to Tori, when I was 14. I didn't understand everything she said back than. But I felt that it made sense and I knew that I would understand it some day. Now I am 21 and still love her music. When I watch her interviews now, I finaly get what she is saying. And it does make so much sense now. She is really precious. And I am so thankfull to have seen her live 2 times. (sorry for my englisch. I am german. :D )
I absolutely adore the thought that songs are actually beings. Tori has definitely influenced the woman I have become; I get called 'Quirky' or 'Childlike' at-least once a day & it truly is the early 90s Tori showing up within me. The idea that certain songs she is writing not just her words & compositions, but these actual things with a life of their own coming out of her like children but in song form, is absolutely fascinating to me.
I wonder if that story about John is where the lyrics came from in Precious Things: "He said 'you're really an ugly girl, but I like the way you play.'"
Saw another interview where she said that was in reference to an adult neighbour that said that to her when she was little and how he said it like it was a compliment and how much that stung and hurt her.
I was thinking the same thing! And that is my favorite song of hers to this day, so it really put a smile on my face to hear that story and how she weathered it.
I was hooked on that song of hers "A Sorta Fairytale" in college so I knew her name, but this quarantine I stumbled into her live performances in the early 90's and am SHOCKED, utterly SHOCKED, at her charisma, skill, and energy. WOW! I've never seen more talent come out of a woman and I'm a Lady Gaga fan! Lady Gaga is an unbelievably outstanding performer, but Tori Amos has this sensitivity and enigma I'd never seen before. Her words of wisdom match her performance as well. What a genuine person and strong woman I'm proud to draw inspiration from. I'm HOOKED!
I haven't seen it! Absolutely LOVE it!!! THANK YOU so much fo uploading this!!! I adore Tori interviews from these years! She's sooo genuine, sweet and adorable! It's just heartwarming to listen to her!
The 90s were the LAST of these types of artists...after the screens invaded humanity, it has all become increasingly vapid. We now exist in a copy and paste world. Authenticity had perished.
A goddess of harmonic and heart rendering music and a transcendent beautiful soul. such a powerful amazing human being. I can't wait to meet this amazing creature
She looked so good before plastic surgery ! Whoever said she was ugly was totally backwards ! I especially loved her teeth , omg !! 💕💕💗💘💝💞 and her lips .....💋💋💋💋💋💋💋 what I would give to be here concert Mic for one evening 👄💋❤💋👄💋
Getting old is hard for some people. I don't think I'll deal with it well. I'm just surprised she didn't take a more conservative approach to surgery--but in a way, I think it is refreshingly honest.
6:21-6:48 (these are not Tori's words but what I took from her inspiration)To those that are starting in their music journeys...others will not crush me or you, it's our form of expression let's keep striving.
The "you gotta fight for your right to have a monster" line suddenly made a lot more sense to me after reading The Sick Bag Song by Nick Cave. Anyone know the passage I'm referring to?
"haven't heard from him since" wow. kind of perfectly encapsulates the scam artist we all call love, eh? here she'd poured her entire soul into writing a song for this boy, fueled by so much energy that she was able to get up and perform the damned thing (under physical threat, no less) in front of an entire school, and then what happens? nothing. he gives her essentially nothing but a facebook like. wtf?! reminds me of the time i spent the entire period between thanksgiving and christmas writing/recording an album for a girl and a week after i'd given her the cassette she told me "sorry haven't listened to it yet." ah, love, what a completely destructive and useless emotion, yeah? thank god it at least drives us to create art, which is the one thing in this world that can't be snatched away from us.
After the success of Under the Pink and Boys for Pele. Not to mention Little Earthquakes, I remember in '98 when The Choirgirl Hotel album came out the same day as Alanis Morrisette's second album (highly anticipated) & sigh, Britney Spears debut. When I found out the next week, as predicted, who had the top spot on Billboard I knew the time of the brilliant, smart introspective female singer songwriter that occured in the seventies and resurged, thankfully, in the 90s was over! Now the dumb processed factory produced dancy pop singer from the late eighties early nineties was back....ughhh!!! After discovering a plethora of female artists like Alanis, Jewel, Patti Rothberg, Tanya Donnelly, Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, the Cowboy Junkies Margot Timmins, Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, Patti Rothberg, Shirley Manson of Garbage, Tracy Bonham, Dionne Ferris, and of course Tori. So many great natural voices and talent dominating the charts and radio all brought to a crashing halt by practically a stripper with a microphone. Who couldn't read music or play one instrument! "But she's hot!" Facepalm for....what time is it?
Tori is an Aspie. She's on the Autism Spectrum. Realizing that about her, suddenly makes EVERRRRRYTHING about her (from her quirks & childlike nature, to her being a child prodigy at playing the piano) make PERFECT sense.
it's weird when you loooove a really personal album (in this case little earthquakes) but can't stand the person who wrote it (at least in this interview)
+Patrick White Yeah I was being generous because god forbid I offend the Tori faithful. I mean she's a fantastic musician and songwriter but she's also a fucking airhead. That's fine, too; you can't be everything.
As an art student I'd pause the VHS tape and draw her. She's beautiful in an uncanny/uncommon way.
Same. I used to study art and I completely understand why you would want to draw her. She is a sight to behold.
"I dont play for races and religions ya know I'm into fairies."
I need this on a shirt.
She's so introspective and beautiful.
Her speaking voice is just as beautiful as her singing voice. I wish she'd narrate books or something
Go buy her new autobiography. She narrates her own audiobook.
she is so, so smart.
highly evolved goddess creature
And so so high
@@riverdawn2668 Is your name really River Dawn? Wait am I high?
"As a performer, I work as a mirror."
"So whatever you're giving me, I give it back to you, ten-fold."
"Cuz that's how mirrors can work."
"When all this love is coming to you, and all this projection is coming to you, and all this stuff, is coming to you; what an audience really is doing is, they wanna give to themselves. Performers do have this power. They can keep what you're giving them. And not give it back. It's how you think: you can stop the wheel. You have to keep the wheel going. Which is,
In Take, Out Take."
It makes sense we tend to look at ourselves when we make art
Me: "Intake... output, love. Output."
what she says about mirroring is also something that happens when I'm teaching, the energy the children give is mirrored by you as a teacher.
I owned this video when I was 14. Now I'm about the age she was during Little Earthquakes. I adored it then, but I can really feel the significance of it now. Her intelligence, her insight, is so advanced and always has been. Thanks for posting this treasure.
slivertoe same! ❤️
Adolescence is heartless and cruel, I agree with her on that.
I wrote her as a teenager and told her about my abuse.
No one else knew.
Still at 40 I think shes brilliant
I started listening to Tori, when I was 14.

Kunterbunte Welt I started listening to her when I was 12. I’m 39 now and love listening to her still! You’ve got great taste, kid ;)
❤️
These interviews bring back memories. I remember buying this VHS with the interviews, videos, and performances.
Raw. Love it! Thanks so much for posting!

YES!
That makes sense!
I was thinking about that song the whole time she was talking about that

Most beautiful woman to ever exist.
the smile
She is a goddess!
I wish I was on her frequency, Tori doesn't get the respect she deserves for her talent and artistry.
I was hooked on that song of hers "A Sorta Fairytale" in college so I knew her name, but this quarantine I stumbled into her live performances in the early 90's and am SHOCKED, utterly SHOCKED, at her charisma, skill, and energy. I love them both but Tori is no words different level. I saw Tori last night and I can’t get over it, she also did a Kate bush cover.
how beautiful is she???? : )
Angel
Beyond compare
I'd really like to look like Tori Amos circa 1992.
She is like a lovely scroll - I always get new ideas after experiencing her
Just because she was a little bit "weird", it doesn't mean that she was one meds, please -_-
It would be so cool to be able to see the entire VHS! (Hahahaha oh man-- VHS. I miss my old VHS.)
Thanks for this; it's really awesome. :)))
She is amazing, truly wow.
She is so amazing I can’t believe I share a planet with this wonderful beautiful woman : )
she is so inspiring!
I watched this video (Little Earthquakes) over and over again in the 90s. I feel like I've found an old friend lol
I love these interviews with Tori from the little earthquakes era! So good!
I haven't seen it! Absolutely LOVE it!!! THANK YOU so much fo uploading this!!! I adore Tori interviews from these years! She's sooo genuine, sweet and adorable! It's just heartwarming to listen to her!
omg! this might be my favorite interview!!! thank you 🙏🏼
Oh, and excellent quality!!! Thank you!
She wanted to be accepted so bad man. She just wanted to be embraced.
This entire video is just… if you get it immediately it’s like. Neurodivergent Momence.
She speaks my language ❤️
i love her at the end talking about 'song for eric'
I am convinced that she Is my true love......the only problem is that we Will never cross paths
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I have never seen it, and I've seen countless videos of Tori on here. Wonderful stuff.
The 90s were the LAST of these types of artists...after the screens invaded humanity, it has all become increasingly vapid.
We now exist in a copy and paste world. Authenticity had perished.
Fine line between genius and insanity 😂😂
Awesome that you put this up! I didn't realize there was that much footage off the vhs I remember..very cool! ^ ^
At the intersection of tragedy and beauty lies Tori
awwww ty so much for uploading theses interviews shee so beautiful love it (L)
Tori - you are fabulous!
A goddess of harmonic and heart rendering music and a transcendent beautiful soul. such a powerful amazing human being. I can't wait to meet this amazing creature
Here's hoping that there will be a 20th anniversary deluxe version of Little Earthquakes next year with this video as a bonus DVD.
Genius
OMG. Tori is on the spectrum. She's an aspie. Was a child prodigy. Can't believe I'm only now realizing this! What an inspiration she is!

I agree adolescence is very cruel, it was for me.
Refrigerator magnet poetry was a thing back then. Some people really decided to take it to heart.
She is a genius.
The "you gotta fight for your right to have a monster" line suddenly made a lot more sense to me after reading The Sick Bag Song by Nick Cave. Anyone know the passage I'm referring to?
I adore Tori forever and always ☮️
"Aaahhhh I'm a moooonster ahhhhh"
- Ricardo Lopez -
And now you're 100 times prettier and more successful than Sylvia. You don't need John :)
she is a fucking hero. i mean it more than you know o.O
Esta chava esta guapisima
tori is so cute and will forever be so!
OMG I just noticed and now just found out - SHE´S A NATURAL BRUNETTE. She isn´t a red-head.
She's part native, so that would make sense, her bone structure and having natural brown hair
Brilliant
She is an interesting person, no doubt about that.
Oh god I love her.
she is nteresting really good story i like it

shes so famous and only this count for garlic and spices??
I can understand her. Maybe she's just not everyone's cup of tea? And that's okay.
Tori is an Aspie. She's on the Autism Spectrum. Realizing that about her, suddenly makes EVERRRRRYTHING about her (from her quirks & childlike nature, to her being a child prodigy at playing the piano) make PERFECT sense.
Yeah at the end I didn't quite get what she was talking about.
She's a deity dancing with faeries. I'm away with Lucifer at a tea party. Heyyyy
Damn Mustaine looks hot here
What a woman
Was?
@berpaderp She has claimed to be a natural brunette. Pictures of her when she was a girl show her with brown hair.
Fuck me she was beautiful 😎
was Tori 32 here?
28.
tori wontherful ...?
Cornflake Girl is her best song ever
I’ve never been crazy about that song
something is wrong with you
I really love her, but God, sometimes she is just out of her mind. Maybe that's part of her genius?
She has Aspergers. Autism Spectrum Disorder.
If you want the boy you're crushing on to return your feelings, maybe you shouldn't put out such crazy-lady vibes. Just a suggestion.
I love her, and I can't stand listening to her talk.
greg55666 Hahaha why??
Then you don’t love her
it's weird when you loooove a really personal album (in this case little earthquakes) but can't stand the person who wrote it (at least in this interview)
Heidi Marchant go away
Get fucked
Ugh kick rocks
1:43 to 1:54 🤪🔥
Rape is crap? Being passionate about music is crap? I'm feeling sorry for yourself.
This crazy birch should open less doors.
60% of what she's saying makes no sense
+herrgolf That's being generous. Good songwriter but a shockingly bad thinker.
+Patrick White Yeah I was being generous because god forbid I offend the Tori faithful. I mean she's a fantastic musician and songwriter but she's also a fucking airhead. That's fine, too; you can't be everything.
+Liam O'Quin I remember when this video was new; it still makes no sense.
+herrgolf Really? Artists talk and think in symbols and metaphor. It's not supposed to be rational. Nazis might have differed, but they made shit art.
Everything she says makes complete sense to me. What she says about performing (taking in/giving back) is very true.
I love her talent, but... what a bunch of crap.
Yeah, she sounds schizophrenic or something.
Wow... lay off the meds, Tori.
You're an asshole.
My friend hates her, even after 20_ years. He thinks she's pretentious and annoying and I can't disagree. She makes your skin crawl
You going to the chemist to buy condoms: "I need to buy condoms. Extra small. They're for a friend."
she's not pretentious she's insightful u idiot. GOD.
Why are you here?
