- How the 2023 F1 AusGP track was built. Filmed over 70 days see the construction, the track build, the grandstands, behind the scenes of how a park turns into a Formula One circuit. See workers Building Melbourne's iconic F1 Grand Prix Circuit.
More than 290,000 man hours are needed to transform Albert Park into a world-class Formula 1 circuit each year. The Australian Grand Prix circuit in Melbourne is one of the most iconic tracks in the world of Formula One. The construction of the circuit is a massive undertaking that requires a lot of planning, resources, and expertise. The process of building the circuit starts months before the actual race, and it involves a team of engineers, architects, and construction workers.
The barriers are built to protect the drivers and the spectators from any accidents that may occur during the race. The safety features include the installation of catch fences, tire barriers, and run-off areas. The construction of the Australian Grand Prix circuit is a complex process that requires a lot of attention to detail and precision. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes look at the Australian Grand Prix circuit being built.
I love how UA-cam recommended me this video 7 hours after the Australia GP 2024. 1 year later than this video 😂❤
The algorithm is a mysterious beast! Thanks for watching one year later :)

I think we all miss Ricky Bobby. I'm sure he will be around the paddock this weekend. If not, we have our adopted mullet man in Valtteri.
And our adopted son drinks St Ali coffee too. He’s basically a Melbournian now.
Do you still put unvaxxed in concentration camps, ridiculous undies?
I was able to walk around the lake when I was visiting Melbourne - such a beautiful park. Other than the garage building there was no sign of a race course. The documentation of the changes is quite interesting - thanks for sharing!
Thanks Ben, yes it's really a zero to F1 circuit story. Amazing how fast it goes up and comes down again.
It's quite surreal to see something we're all so familiar with in a not-so-familiar form
At least we've still got the Mullet, Valtteri... our adopted Aussie. I'm hoping Fernando has a win here this year like he did when I last went back in 2006. Great tour of Albert Park, Stef!
Fernando has a good car and is on a good streak. If red Bull suffer it could happen. Thanks for watching.
Here after Ferrari Sainz win

It’s incredible how they transform the area. The circuit once’s it’s put together is such a beautiful venue.
THIS is the kind of behind-the-scenes I was looking for - thank you Stef! Good news - ya got Danny Ric back this year !! 😎🏎
I live in Melbourne and drive past Albert park almost every day for work. It’s honestly a lovely park to walk around when it’s quiet, and it’s very hard to know that this is actually an f1 track
Watching Albert part change every year from the 96 tram always signals the new year well and truely getting into gear
you'd hope the new year is truly in gear by April though
I remember backpacking in 1995-1996, and seeing the start of very first buildup in Melbourne. A shame I couldn’t be at the race, but I did get up early that morning in the Netherlands and watching that GP with a very special feeling.
Watching this literally right before qualifying starts... positive this is more interesting than whatever sky happens to be showing right now.
Haha, thanks Mike. I’m no Sky Sports but glad you found it interesting!
I used to work near the Adelaide Parklands Curcuit, and used to get the same buzz from the setup before the Supercars event here. Amazing how quick they get it torn down. Our race finished Sunday afternoon, and all the streets were open, barriers gone, etc before morning rush on Monday. We had a couple of big grandstands built on the street too, they were gone by next morning as well.
Yeah it’s impressive how quickly they take it all down again hey? Thanks for the comment.
Incredible how they put the track up and more amazing is how fast they put it down. Thank you for this video!!
Yes same for Montreal, insane logistics
if you think this is incredible, try monaco!
I’m on the fencing team for 2023 GP and I’ve got to say it’s been one of the most satisfying jobs ever!
That's awesome Jason, thanks for building such a cool track!
Parry & Riposte!
@@stef747 thanks for your awesome content covering the Grand Prix!
Hands down one of my favorite GP of the year!! Thank you for sharing how Albert Park is turned into a grand prix circuit!!! Also, nice touch putting Crofty's "Lights out and away we go" on the video 😅👌
BTW: 6:02 Everybody hopes so. Fernando returning to his prime at 41 is just crazy! #ElPlan
Thank you, I appreciate the comment and glad you enjoyed the video (and Crofty's cameo!).
One of the worst tracks is your favorite? Lol
@@paste5004 Oh no, a Tilke fanboy made it here.
@@armorgeddon don't let facts upset you kid
This was awesome. Thanks for doing all the work to put this together to share with the world!
2:51 that transition is 🔥
What a great video! Ever since I became an F1 fan I've been curious about the behind the scenes of how street circuits are put together. And how these places look during race weekend vs any other time of the year. Wish there was more content like this for other street circuits!
thank you for sharing!
This is awesome to see the progression! I've always wondered how different the street circuits look during normal operations. Thank you so much for this
great tour Stef ! Amazing vidéo thx for sharing :)
This is so sick!!! Great idea and great video Stef :)
One of my bucket list items is attending one of the biggies - think Le Mans, Indianapolis, Isle of Man, Monaco.
Have fun!
Good list - Monaco would be a fun, albeit maybe expensive, one to watch. Hope you get to some or all of them soon.
@@stef747 As someone's who lives near Monaco here's a little secret: there are a few rare spots in the more elevated streets high above the circuit with viewpoints to see the Monaco GP for free without a ticket. Now obviously these aren't grandstands or seats but I did go there last year to attend the qualifying and it was a really fun time. I had views over either St Devote or one spanning from the swimming pool complex to the entry to rascasse
Thank you for such an amazing video and your efforts of 70 days to show us the transformation. Loved it!!
Great video, thanks for showing the evolution of the track from normal public road to AUS GP.
Mate great wrap up of how its built. The cyclist dodge of 3:26 was impressive. Although it may need to be investigated by race control.
Haha, yes swerving unnecessarily by Drury, that’s a 5s penalty.
Wow, never realised just how much goes into transforming this into an F1 ready track😮. Thanks for the great insight
This is the most interesting F1 video I've watched in years.
Thank you for taking the time to show us.
Amazing. Thank you for this.
Wow this is so good! Maybe you can film how they dismantle the whole thing, bringing back the park after the race.
Yeah that's definitely a good idea for a follow up video, thanks.
Just watch this video backwards
So glad I was at this race and it Is truly amazing to see how it is built
I always knew it was a lot of work, but never quite realized it was this much. Nice video. Thanks mate!
This is a great insight into the prep, thank you.
Thanks a lot for this video man, it is just something that I have been wanting to watch. How a public road becomes a F1 track is something that I have searching for earlier.
I’m fortunate to have attended the Australian Grand Prix a few years ago. What a great place to see a race!
So glad i came across this. what a cool perspective. love it
Such a good video. Thank you for showing this, it's so interesting to see this transformation.
You go straight to it without 20 minutes of bullshit with every update
Definitely cool to see the before and after process.
Best video I have seen on the construction. Thank you
I love how Melbourne can make these incredible sporting experiences that are top class
Really cool video! Nice insight into how that entire thing comes together to go from a park into a F1 circuit. When it's on it doesn't really look like a street circuit.
Also, nice editing and shots.
I was working there this year setting up the F2/F3 garages, team hospitality centres and that big marquee overlooking turn 13/14 - really cool couple of months being involved with it all
Both your YT channels are great, thank you!!
" no.... I'm UA-cam"
I always love to check out the progress during those 2 months. Also riding the bike is pretty cool on the track.
Awesome video, thanks for creating this content. It’s so much fun to see this process
Nice video mate! I love seeing Albert Park transform from a public park into an F1 street circuit, 1 or 2 weeks before the race weekend, I go to the park and walk around, You can even see some people on their cars drivinga round the and stop on some corners to take a picture of their cars while on the corner pretending that they are racing.
It’s been really cool doing school sport at MSAC so every week I get to see the progress but I am really excited and happy that we’re back in Australia. Although Daniel Ricciardo isn’t gonna be there we will survive
this is awesome. thank you
I remember backpacking in 1995-1996, and seeing the start of very first buildup in Melbourne. A shame I couldn’t be at the race, but I did get up early that morning in the Netherlands and watching that GP with a very special feeling.
thanks for the video of Albert park
Very interesting video thank you mate, amazing how different it looks and the speed at which its all put together.
This is awesome. Great video
Ah I love these kind of videos! Thanks
Great video, massive effort goes into this event
Very cool video how the park transform into the circuit. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for sharing this great info
Great video, quality content 👌🏼
Thank you, I appreciate you saying that
AMAZING. Top show! F1 beautiful
Thanks Rodriguez!
Great video. Kept me engaged the whole time. GOod stuff
This is so cool to see. Amazing how much work goes in to building the circuit.
Now the season starts properly ;-)
Yes it's strange not having Australia as the first GP of the season, but I agree it feels like 2023 is really underway now. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for making this video ❤
Thanks for watching IDF77
nicely put together! excellent
After this video, I officialy am going to move to Melbourne later in my life
great video! love the transformation!
Love the video!
Keep it up!
Thanks mate, this was awesome!
Thanks Calvin, I really enjoyed filming this one so I appreciate that.
I think it's fantastic that you can see it all developing and even walking around and under the grand stands. Part of me is hoping security and safety has not been compromised.
What an amazing video. Great insight ❤
My high school is on the edge of Albert Park. When the Grand Prix was on, we’d all have to stay home and do online learning because it was so loud we couldn’t be at school
Nice video, i've always known that it was built-up every year, but never knew exactly, but now I do thanks to you, you made a great compilation of it :)
Thank you for this video .
Great vid, thanks!
Must be really cool to be able to go explore the track before the GP
Really well made video! Thanks for sharing and putting this together
Thank you Dory, I appreciate the kind words.
Great post! I think this is the first time I’ve seen one of these for the Australian circuit ❤
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I've watched this happen many years now so enjoyed documenting it this time.
What a great video… thank you
Awesome video Stef. Never thought I would see a F1 video from you. But this was great
Thanks for watching this, glad you enjoyed it. I've loved the F1 since I was a kid so I like sharing different stories like this here on this channel. I appreciate the comment, thanks.
Speed limit at Albert Park 361 days per year: 40 km/h
Speed limit at Albert Park during a Grand Prix weekend: 400 km/h
Albert Park is the only track that feels like a race track that's built into public infrastructure after the race, Instead of public roads retrofitted to race on. I'd love to check out the transformation myself sometime.
I would add Jeddah to that list as well. It's called a street circuit, but feels like a racetrack that is open to public use for 11 months.
Great video. Always wonder about this track. Well done!
Many thanks Dave.
I contracted to the Grand Prix Corporation for 5 years, many moons ago- it was amazing to see the park transformed. Absolutely incredible to see the event come together! The rules in place for them to rehabilitate the park afterwards are enormous too, especially grass areas.
Great vid!
Amazing! Thanks a lot for that video mate, I love these types of short documentaries :) Very exciting to see the process behind the scenes. So do they collect all that gravel and replace the grass after the GP?
Brilliant! I would so love to drive around the circuit on the last day before access is closed, it must be so evocative with all/most of the track furniture in place.
I definitely make "nyooom" sounds in my head when I drive around the track.
Thank you for video
This is a very cool very informative video, thank you!
It’s so interesting to see a street circuit being built. We have the Long Beach GP this weekend, a similar situation here in the USA 🇺🇸
If i lived near here I would do this every year and just watch it get built.
Awesome job! thanks from Spain
Thanks for watching Jose Maria, hello to Spain 🇪🇸
Enjoy Stef... Looking for a great 2023 season
Great Video!!! I need to watch more of your stuff
Thanks Sam, great to have you here on the channel.
Only about 7 months to go for 2024, and yes I am already going through many videos on this because I am just that excited.
thanks for your video dude.
Thanks for watching Dandi
Very cool video and very cool perspective!
great video!
this video is honestly so cool to watch
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Kain
Great insight into the world of F1. Thank You
Thanks for watching Marlbro
This guy deserves more subscribers
Very cool.. interesting to find your channel.. I'm presently compiling a similar vid about F1 Las Vegas!!! I was able to watch Long Beach, Monaco, and the very beginning of Singapore being constructed.. thanks for this
