Small elaboration on 5:13 , the man hole wasn't exposed per say, but the extreme speed and downforce of the F1 car essentially made it pop out, so they have filled them in with concrete
Why was that not checked before ?

It looks like it was/ is a challenge to run there. The way that was built, seems that they used the last on technology. And the world is heading in that direction.

The force the F1 car created, sucking up the manhole/surround actually produced a dent in the ground in Port-aux-Français, Kerguelen, French Southern Territories, on the opposite side of the planet. True fact.
I saw the process. Kind of insane what they put together but it was a terrible pain in the ass to navigate around here.That on top of normal construction was a nightmare.

Vegas never stops . It changes , it grows , constantly . The race will improve year after year . Its only the beginning . I remember when it was great to stay at the Stardust .

Great Job on explaining everything in a succinct and enjoyable manner. I live in Utah so it would be the easiest race to attend but the prices, the mess of Las Vegas and just a general atmosphere that wasn't my idea of a motor race made it less attractive than say, Austin! However there is no denying that it is attractive to a very large and younger audience that sees an F1 race as an excuse to party more than anything else. Exactly the audience that F1 and Las Vegas are trying to attract. Not my thing but good for the sport as entertainment. Thanks for the Video!!

It was a good race, the only complaint was with the FIA and Carlos Sainz, that 10 grid spot penalty was bull sh-t. They really should consider moving the race up to an earlier date next year. Iam sure it had a lot to do with the new construction and the time constraints associated with that.
Agreed, gutted for Sainz, should NEVER be punished for that. Well I saw they said pre-order tickets now for November 20th? I heard they was gonna move to October but not sure
I seen that as well, same date doesn’t make sense. It was obviously to cold, still a very good circuit, I will look forward to it every year…

F1 keeps talking about all the money this event is going to bring in - somewhere between $500m to $1b. What they don't factor in is 'opportunity costs'... ie, without F1, how much money would Vegas have generated during a normal weekend in November? And then subtract that from what F1 actually brings in, and you'll see what the true 'benefit' is. And it's not going to be as big as people think, and the juice might not be worth the squeeze economically. But oh well, it's F1's money. Vegas already has a $45b annual tourism economy. Is the disruption to all the casinos/tourism spots once a year worth it in the long run to increase total tourism revenues by 1-2% total annually?
One thing they did say on SkySports today is that they picked this weekend as its one of Vegas's least busy weekends (week before thanks giving in america), so in terms of opprutunity cost, I thnk they'd 10000% take an f1 race

Yeah you would think with all the city tracks that they've created and raced on in the past and even hearing them talk about having those same issues in the past that somebody an engineer or anybody for that matter would have come up with a better idea on how to address the problem... Sounds to me like as always somebody dropped the ball

The impact on locals was brutal and they’re already organizing against F1. The track won’t be cleaned up until well after new years. There will be a couple months peace and they start prep again. Locals vote. Count on an F1 backlash where elected officials will be given an ultimatum, rein this in or be voted out.
Would be wonderful if with that money in revenue for Vegas, they could invest in better transportation systems, more trains for example.
Hopefully so, the mess that this caused and the money it brings may make them get things like that done!

I loved the "complaints about ticket prices" was followed by "sold out instantly" multiple times.
But not it seems like they were lies from F1, as tickets became available closer to the race. Almost like they said they were sold out to make it appear better...
you could buy tickets right up to race time, and at reduced prices.

I think this track has bright future. The race wasnt bad at all. Even Azerbaijan GP was a snooze fest in the first year in 2016 and it grew to be one of the best races and great chases

I think it would have worked better visually to not have bleachers in front of the Bellagio fountains. Leave the scenery open and have the fountains going off during the race

Track looked great and in that time frame but if you live there and it's all hindering your day to day life it would be a bummer, isn't the sphere just a round TV is it that groundbreaking.

I live in Henderson about 10 miles south of the race. I haven’t gone near the area in months. I was at the parking lot race. The sight lines sucked.

I cant imagine how crazy it was in town during all the road construction. Ha, when I moved away last year, Rainbow was still under construction in its 30th year or so by the 215.
This is a great recap of the first year of F1 returning to Vegas. There are quite a few casinos I'm sure will LOVE having the type of clients that F1 brings. This is a massive bet for F1, but the American Market needs to be tapped and there's not a better city to do it in. From my perspective, if you move to this city the first thing you should expect is a developer to come in and disrupt everything with a bigger project than the last person. I don't have much sympathy for the people who are inconvenienced. They buy into it by moving here.

I'm a local.. this whole thing is ridiculous. It now takes 2 hours to go 6 miles. No one signed up for this by living here.

If you don't like these kinds of disruptions, Vegas is not the place for you. Start using public transportation and other means to get around and demand your local representatives address this now. They have the money to do it.

If the racing is like this again in the future, the Las Vegas GP will succeed. They can get faster at setup and breakdown. This will fix many of residents concerns. F1 does need to do better to connect with the Las Vegas community. whether its opening a free F1 museum in Las Vegas at their space they own year round or investing in local open wheel racing projects. They could open a F1 themed go kart track or something that the community would enjoy. Find ways to increase the community's love of racing and F1 while also not being money hungry scumbags. They don't have to charge exorbitant prices for a museum or go kart track but those things will increase the popularity of the event and provide a direct link between F1 and the people and tourists of vegas.

That was really interesting. I'll bet the European fans will just LOVE Formula 1 moving HQ to the States. Most of them loathe the U.S. being involved in 'their' sports be it F1, road cycling, soccer/futbol, etc. I couldn't care less one way or another.
It will be interesting to see how the Vegas economy benefits from this. Usually it's not the average Joe who really sees any of it.

@@EverythingExplainedd yes but it costs 300 times as much to do and has caused millions of dollars in damage to the casinos... and it isnt bringing 500 times as much revenue certainly not even twice as much profit. to my understanding this is going to be an economic failure all said and done. 500 million dollars and 9 months spent of killing business on the strip just for a few days? did they expect to make 15 grand from 100,000 people? i just cant make the slightest bit of sense of it.

Personally, now that F1 is built, the traffic has gotten so much better. The peak of the traffic is definitely over but it was hell. I remember getting off at 12am and getting home at 330am on a 25 min drive home 🙄🙄

kudos to all the construction workers, electricians, fencers, HVAC, welders, plumbers, engineers, iron workers, etc it's insane to build something that would take 5+ years in just 1 year! This should boost and revive a tired and aging Las Vegas, despite all the complaints, it's amazing! Wish I was there!

What they have done with the time given is very impressive. They did a great job and it looks fantastic. I am enjoying it way more than any of the other street tracks. Vegas somehow seems less over the top and annoying than Miami.

well half of the stuff, like the paddock building etc is permenant, but next year they will have to still build temproarry granstands, put the lighting up etc, and take it down after the race. Thats just how F1 street circuits work, it will cost ALOT less next year, maybe 50-150m
@@EverythingExplainedd no these numbers always go vastly over budget due to greedy employees. so if you say 50-100m then i say 100-200m. they are mighty mighty bold to think that they can fetch this kind of money from this type of consumer.. they clearly are going to lose a ton of money this year and they expect to make it back next year. come on man. vegas is on par to do another 2008 crisis my man this is just stupid stupid gambling with tax dollars. las vegas is supposed to bring in money from gamblers not do the gambling itself.

Yes, it seems weird if you want to gain American fans. But it isn't an American sport.

They had already started it was not empty ground there was a smaller casino and hotel there I can't remember the name I used koval to go to Ellis Island hotel that was 2 miles from mgm that took 1.5 hours drive and Uber drivers refused to go to cause it was not worth it

Reporters claim that the residents are 'furious' at this spectacle. But, sensible LV residents know this brings in a boatload of money over a very short period of time.

All I hear is the huge money bringing into the city, But who is seeing it, The casinos owners , Hotel Owners and F1, No one else , alot of locl businesses were hurt by this, The locals were not making diddly. It was a huge disruption for months and to the locals not worth it,

Who gives a shit if the residents of Las Vegas complain? This is a global event, which means it is considered on a worldwide scale. For a local economy that relies on tourism, it seems to me that they should be very very very grateful for that event in Las Vegas. They should be helping to ensure that it's a success. This race can end up making Vegas 3 times bigger. Las Vegas has to consider the fact that it has to grow or it will die. Staying small, empty, etc is not a good option for them.
oh yeah I mean I agree, the whole point of Vegas is bigger, better, bolder, theres not many sports you could bring into a city to add onto that, plus it'll be alot easier in future years

The construction, the disruption... The ticket prices show that it's not for any local or person from around there. I've read that the only way this will stop is with a mutual agreement. I can only pray. Terrible idea! The only people who care about this are NOT from here. Therefore, they don't matter.
