- We are on a road tip across Malaysia!
We left Kuantan today along with @Ken Abroad and @Travelgramers to head west through Pahang, Malaysia with our Perodua car.
It was Steve's first time driving on the wrong side of the road! But we arrived safely at our final destination in Temerloh, Pahang.
On the way, we also made a stop at Kampung New Zealand. Yes, you heard that right! There is a New Zealand in Malaysia!

Here's a pro tip: We Malaysians are generally very friendly people, but not so much when we're behind the wheel lol! It's like we switch to siege mentality once our hands are on the steering wheel and I don't know why.
Other than that, have a safe and fun trip!
I can relate to that after driving many times in Kuching and around Sararwak. Great driving out of the cities and towns but can be quite scary in them.
Horns will be heard. Fingers will be shown. Faces will be seen. And if anyone tries anything, just stay in the car and call the five-o on their asses.
Trust me when i say that Malaysian drivers are one of the better ones out there 😂😂😂

That's my perception while driving in Malaysia for 13years. When we moved to Qatar 4years ago, this come into my mind, drivers in Malaysia are thousands better than here!
I did open the driver door wrongly for months, nervous to enter and getting out of roundabout (it's confusing since you drive the otherway in Malaysia) and learnt being patient with unusual behavior of drivers on the road (sometimes they just stop their car in the middle of the road just to talk to their phone or stop at the roundabout waiting for their friend's cars etc😂). Horn is a must just after the traffic light change to green colour (to keep other drivers alert🤣)Praise to God it's my second year driving here😅

I remember, I turned into a wrong way while driving in US during my study time. That happened after a few months of living in Portland, Oregon.. 🤣🤣🤣
As you can see, a lot of people giving you advice to drive safely but that is not because we think you drive badly, instead it is because we know how unsafe some Malaysians drive and a foreigner like you may not be used to this kind of driving. We want you all to have a great experience road tripping. The highways will get you to your destination faster but the rural roads will offer many more surprises an better sights and experience, in my opinion.
Anyway just be alert at all times and I hope you enjoy your road trip.

Temerloh is famous for ikan patin... If you go to the river (the main road goes along the river) you'll see people rearing patin fish in cages in the Pahang River...

For your info, in Malaysia you are prohibited to use your phone in the gas station especially when you are on calling, recording and so on because its harmful. No laws in the country but its a common sense among us

yea because the electromagnetic waves might cause electric discharge with the gasoline, creating a spark and ignite it. However, I think filming will be just fine
Using it fine just no phone call and hotspot. It's best to turn off calling/sim or use airplane mode

Watch out for motor bikes and sometimes on kampung roads there will be stray cows or buffalos.

I highly recommend you to drive along the old coastal road in terengganu. U gonna love the feel and view..Dont use the highway.

Go to temerloh river waterfront for sunday market or carboot sales at night. After you reach to gobang maju patin house,. You can go along the road to another town bera where people selling live catfish alongside the pahang river. I bet you have already planned where you are going though 😅

Perhaps you can go to one of the patin sangkar & see how they breed patin in Pahang River.. We used to swim in the river during the dry season, as the river become shallow. Then go to the elephant sanctuary in Kuala Gandah.

I think it’s good if you know driving rules in malaysia i mean like if you were caught using mobile phone while driving, you will have to make a court appearance. There is also AES(Automated Enforcement System), speedtrap like usual, charged parking area, etc. So that you wont get trouble. Have a safe drive!
And toll payment method also. I guess the renter already explain it to u.
Some cars in have signal handle on the right, and some on the left. Depend on which brand.
But i want to watch an episode of mat salleh experiencing malaysian court.. hehe.

This is more entertaining than I expected 😂
Pro tip: you can actually put your phone with the GPS on the gear knob at the console since it is an automatic car and you don't really need to change the gear 😂 It will be easier for Steve to glance at the map while driving.
But without proper phone holder will get u police traffic summon...
