Matt - thanks for a fantastic video - this is so useful - a very clear explanation. Superb work. Can I suggest you do the same for chokes at some point.
Thank you for your comment. As I said in the video the majority of female shooters require a high comb and adjustable combs and sometimes pad plates are the answer. Feel free to contact me directly for advice. Kind regards, Matthew
Had one installed and the rear pin does not slide easily and it is very tricky to get the comb back on after sliding the pins for offset. I think the collars in the cheek piece are off center of the pins? What say you
Well done Matt, yet another of your clear and concise presentations, this time on adjustable combs. A lot more useful than another particular channel, (that will remain nameless), i think you' may probably know to whom i am referring. No waffling, no fudging, just informative. Well done mate. 👍
Very well presented! As you stated, adjustable combs are a great addition to most any shotgun. In most instances the re-sale value of it will be higher than its fixed comb counterpart because they are so flexible. I give two pieces of advice to up and coming competition shooters. First, buy a high-quality, purpose-built shotgun built to last through a career of competition shooting (i.e., Krieghoff K-80). Second, buy that shotgun with at least an adjustable comb to help with the physiological changes your body may go through during your career. Speaking from my own experience, the years from my 20's to my 60's was a rollercoaster with many changes in between. Custom stocks and bending stocks can be very cost prohibitive. Get an adjustable comb and "buy once, cry once".
Thank you for your comment, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Bending stocks is an age old tradition but sadly some modern guns do not lend themselves to it. Kind regards, Matthew

Great and informative video, I’ve just got into shooting and about to buy my first gun, I have been torn between an ATA and a Yildiz but this video has pushed me more towards the Yildiz adjustable comb, definitely gives you more to work with.
Excellent video Matt I have a Miroku 6000 grade 5 trap that has had an adjustable stock fitted and Teague chokes it’s not as it left the factory but it’s my gun and I love it

Thank you for your comment. I would agree with this because as I pointed out in the video manufacturers factory fit adjustable combs have more drop in their standard form. Kind regards, Matthew
Hi, Matt! I do enjoy your videos, mostly because you are picking up interesting and useful topics. You asked for a challenge about any shotgun we might have came across. Here's one: Sempert&Krieghoff , O/U , 12/70 , 1936. Is that a real challenge for you? Thank you!
Thank you for your comment. I am pleased that you found the video useful. Should you require any further assistance regarding gun fit or adjustable combs then please feel free to contact me directly. Kind regards, Matthew
Thanks for the informative video. Makes sense on adjustable comb being lower to start with. Is it expensive to get a stock made adjustable? I am lining up getting the new ATA SP Pro12 which you reviewed for clays
Where can I source the post, spacers etc. for Browning adj. Comb? It's an early 70's vintage BT-99 I recently purchased. Very interesting video, thanks.
Thank you for your comment, I am pleased that you found the video interesting. Regarding the spacers a bit of a tricky one. Have you tried Brownells? Kind regards, Matthew

First class content. When I purchased my first gun it was a requirement. I notice when you were looking for the snowman you were squinting. Do you recommend to close an eye for the test mount? Thanks
Thank you for your comment and kind words. Regarding the squinting, I am left eye dominant so close my left eye for most things. It certainly helps when dry mounting. Kind regards, Matthew
@@eastfieldgunroomhi Matt, I'm left eye dominant too, I struggle with anything dead straight either going away or coming straight towards. I tend to shoot down the left hand side, will moving my comb across to the right help? If so rather than seeing a figure of 8 should I then see the figure of 8 but with the mid bead across slightly to the left? If I could I would pop in and see you but I'm miles away.
Almost all guns I put up to my shoulder have comb heights that are too high for me. Even adjustable combs bottomed out aren't quite low enough I find. I'd be curious to know how my head sits on that one you showed where you're seeing the safety catch.
Thank you for your comment. This is certainly not a problem that I experience very often. Usually that the combs are far too low. Which gun do you shoot with out of interest? Kind regards, Matthew
I have a Franchi Affinity, Benelli 828U and an Ignacio Ugartechea boxlock. The 828U is a recent addition so I'm still learning how to shoot it. The other two have been good workhorses for the years I've had them. I find Browning/Miroku very high in the comb so I tend to steer well clear of them. Beretta not quite as bad but still perhaps a tad higher than ideal.
Matt thanks for a great video I wanted your advice I shoot trap with a mk38 trap gun what would your opinion be on a new browning 525 trap one as 2nd gun
Thank you for your comment. Regarding the 525 Trap One it is a very different beast to a standard MK38 trap. Feel free to contact me to discuss. Kind regards, Matthew
You mentioned that gun manufacturers make rifles and shotguns to a one-size-fits-all. Can you give a height range that would fit that mfg one size? I'm 6' and the mrs is 5'5" and I've found that what fits me doesn't fit her that well and vice versa. So, would you say the optimum is around 5' 8-9"?
Thank you for your comment. Manufacturers certainly try to produce stocks with a 'one size fits all' set of dimensions but in my experience this is a huge task. It is highly unlikely that you will find a gun that will fit you both. My advice would be to stop looking and look for two shotguns instead. There are plenty of lower cost offerings that are suitable for female shooters. Check out the KOFS, ATA and Yildiz range of guns. Kind regards, Matthew
At 2:49, you are mounting the buttstock completely below your shoulder. Is that how you normally mount your gun? At 13:36, it seems like your right thumb is touching your nose. Everything I’ve read and watched recommends about 2 finger distance between the thumb and nose.
Thank you for your comment. Due to my size (6ft 4) the guns that I use for fitting (as per the Miroku I used in the video) do not fit me in any way shape or form. I actually shoot a 16.25" monte carlo stock which means I am used to mounting the gun a bit lower in the shoulder because of the profile of stock that I shoot. As you correctly point out the stock on the gun in the video is much too short for me.Hopefully this clears this up. Kind regards, Matthew
Thank you for your comment. The Beretta Gel Tek raisers are a good bit of kit but they do have a tendency to push your head down the side of the stock as they wrap around a long way down the comb. An adjustable conversion is certainly better long term. Kind regards, Matthew
Thank you for your comment. Personally my advice would be regardless of what type of gun it is it needs to fit. I would have no hesitation on putting an adjustable comb on a game gun. It is worth noting however that game guns are often quite a bit lower (traditional game drop on an older Beretta is 38/60) and even an adjustable comb may not provide enough height. Kind regards, Matthew
I have two Game Guns. A Beretta 687 EELL Classic and a 691. Height is not a big issue more ‘Cast’. Would it be better to have them re-cast or an Adjustable Combe fitted?
Always been lucky with my guns, my current clay gun mk10 competition sporter fits me like a glove, the adjustable offerings are all far too straight for me
There are a few dedicated left handed guns out there. Not as many as right handed, but they're around. My most recent gun is a bit of an oddball but it came with all the hardware required to convert it from right handed to left. I've added some drop to lower the comb height and it should now have 6mm of 'Cast On'.
@harrywhite4181 i live in a very small country, and you rarely find any left-handed guns like the official berreta retailer only has one left handed a400 xplorer. But im looking to buy an over under, and they dont usually come with shims to adjust the cast.
Thank you for your comment. You are correct that pitch can affect the height a gun shoots because it is to do with the position of the stock in the shoulder. Comb height is more critical though. Kind regards, Matthew
If you look at modern sporting guns most people with adj combs only raise them to the point of the factory height, which is the idea of an adjustable to be shot as a monte carlo style stock for people who need that type of fit- if you start too high you lose the monte carlo fit
