    Sound advice encapsulated in a 20-minute presentation. Well done! It is amazing to me how many people will spend such an exorbitant amount of time investigating cars or other products but believe that a 'gun is just a gun' and buy the first thing that they see on the market. Most first-time shotgun owners seem to follow the same path. Buying a gun only to realize their mistake to late. I was once asked to tutor a person who had an interest in skeet shooting. He said he had a shotgun so we set up an appointment for the range. He showed up with a pump action shotgun with an extended magazine tube and a Pachmayr pistol grip. Quite Robo Cop indeed! Long story short, he shot his first targets that day with my gun and did surprisingly well. He still shoots today but now wields a Blaser F3.

    I think it’s worth saying that you might not get the perfect gun for you the first time out. You may think you know what you need, but only by shooting a lot do you work out what you really need and like. That can feed into your next gun.

    Never bought a new shotgun in my life , could never afford a new one .
    Started with cheap Italian and Spanish guns and worked my way up over the years as I earned more money.
    Luckily I'm Mr average when it comes to gunfit so most I've ever needed is a recoil pad change.

    Good advise, as a recent new shooter I have asked myself all the same questions. Well informed you are more likely to make good decisions.

    Good sound advice for a new shooter , especially regarding buying a second hand gun at an attractive price , then having to spend a pocket full of money to get it to fit you , when a new gun would have been perfect for a bit more money.
    Kind Regards Matt.

    Great info, I think the best thing ever has been adjustable combs, some say they spoil the looks but can make the gun fit perfect.
    You don't really need a set of 7 chokes, I never use 3/4 or F, really skeet. Gun weight should match the shooter strength to make a smooth swing.

    Sound advice as per usual.Can be a veritable minefield.Thought I was sorted with a Kemen and an MK60 until all the furor regarding lead ban/steel shot..Prices had escalated somewhat and I did not fancy the considerable gunsmithing alternatives so I bought an F3 to cover all bases as an occasional sporing clay/then avid game shooter. Luckily it worked out...although still shooting lead years down the line...😈

    Hi Mat good video it was very informative in the couple of years I’ve been shooting trap I’ve gotten to try some different guns and I tend to find Beretta fits me better than browning does and I happen to prefer certain things on the browning over the beretta.

    My favourite, most valuable gun in my cabinet is so much of a bad fit for me it's almost unusable, but it's a piece of art and I love it. My every week clay gun is a cheap piece of sh1t and it's horrible to break, close and fire, but it's gelled to me perfectly and I regularly dust up way more expensive guns at local competitions.
    Shotgun choice is a colossal web of personal reasons, buy what you want.
    Age can mean nothing and everything depending on make/model.
    If you're well mated to your gun and you pull the trigger at the right time with the barrel pointed in the right spot, you'll smash that target with a £10 Baikal, £10k DT11 or £100k Purdey all the same.

    A brilliant and very helpful review! Just one question, if I want to use the gun just for clays, is a 30" barrel the best mid point or should I look to go for a 32"? I'm looking at getting a new MK38.

    • @eastfieldgunroom
      @eastfieldgunroom  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comment and kind words. I think this depends on a few factors:
      1. Your height and stature
      2. What grade of MK38 as the balance is massively different
      3. Your shooting style (if you have one).
      I hope this helps.Kind regards, Matthew

    hello, thank you for your videos. Can you make a video about the diference on the barrels convergence between a field/sporting vs a trap gun. most of the diferences that are refer to are all about stock and dimensions, but there is a big diference on the barrels or not? thank you for your work.

    • @eastfieldgunroom
      @eastfieldgunroom  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comment, I am pleased that you are enjoying the videos. Personally I do not believe that there is a great difference unless the gun has an adjustable POI. I believe that it is 99% down to the correlation between stock dimensions and the shooter. Kind regards, Matthew

    Mat you keep going on about a lead ban , and you need 3”chambers . What happens to my 682 silvers (32”) from 1988/90 /91 are they going to be u/s . What will happens to all the old guns as not everyone can afford new guns .
