    I have two question 1:if there are not a ball (valve) but there are a spring is it ok.2:the holes that you drill is at the and of the piston move over the piston? thanks

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      In the end I think I used a ball without a spring, the air pressure kelpt the ball valve closed so no need for the spring.
      The exhaust port works in the same way as a 2 stroke engine, only allowing the air to escape when the piston is at bottom dead centre

    Is this stock from an air compressor? Or did you have to modify it to make it work as an engine

    My engine “backfires”
    When I try to start it, it will make one turn and then it tries to go up but it doesn’t want go. Is my exhaust hole too low?
    When I look through the hole, I only see half a millimeter above the piston.

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      Hi. It could be the exhaust hole being to small or the piston pin opening the ball valve to early.

    Important question: where did you drill the exhaust holes (cm from the bottom)
    And how long is the metal rod you used on top of the piston

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      Hi, the exhaust holes were at Bottom dead center of the piston travel, a raised exhaust hole increased RPM but lowered the torque, a lower hole increased torque but reduced RPM.
      as for the rod on the piston it was a case of trial and error, I made 2 engines from the same compressor and both needed different lengths.
      Hope this helps.

      Hi, I have the same compressor but I have a plastic piston, gear and cylinder. Any tips to get it working? It does not work. Can I maybe ask for a discord username?

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      @@bricknplay the plastic piston and con rod is fine
      However you do need a metal gear as this acts as a flywheel.
      The engine I made actually ran better with the motor attached as this also acts a flywheel.

    Hello and thanks for the help so far :)
    Is the piston sealing good? On mine (not the same but very similar) it doesn’t. But it was very good to push the piston down. So does it seal good in yours? How much capacity does your air tank have? How long can it run on a full tank?

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      Sealing was pretty good. But there was quite a lot of wasted air still from the valve timing.
      I found the engine ran for much longer/more efficient when upside down.
      50L tank lasted about 10 minutes I think. Can’t remember. I think in one run it lasted 15 minutes.

    • @bricknplay
      @bricknplay Рік тому

      @@Hydrogenguys what leaks in the valve timing? And the 50L/10 Minutes was upside down? Or how long does it run upside down?

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      The valve stays open too long but still ran very well. 10/15minutes was in an upright position.
      With the one I made I needed the motor still attached for the engine to run. It acted like a flywheel.
      If your engine only goes down and not back up I would imagine the valve is staying open for too long or the exhaust port isn’t big enough. Not allowing all the air pressure to escape before travelling back up.

      @@Hydrogenguys Thanks, I will get the one from the link you sent me, in a week, so I will see. I am planning to make a actual weed eater (trimmer) with it… do you think it’s possible?

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      @@bricknplay I don’t think this would have the power you need for that application. However it would be pretty cool to see.
      Might be better considering a 20cc trimmer engine to air instead.

    Can it work with steam?

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  Рік тому

      If the cylinder head was metal (some of these small compressors come with metal heads) and that ball valve was steel with a metal piston ring then yes it should work on steam too :)

      Sadly not, just wants in the video, not very detailed I know.
      It’s a very simple air engine that operates using a pin and ball, no spring was used in the end
