Do they still run steam excursion trains on the Ohio Central railroad

Sadly no. Mr. Jacobson sold the Ohio central to the Genesee and Wyoming in 2008. Initially allowing some movements of steam on their property, G&W now isn’t fond of steam on their route. Fortunately, the steam engines are still in sugar creek and are stored at the the Age of Steam roundhouse. Mr. Jacobson used the money from selling the Ohio Central to build a roundhouse to store his collection and restore some of the equipment. They currently have 1 operational steam engine that they use for occasional shuttle rides on their property with another on the way. If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend checking them out!

I rode with the East Columbus local crew for a few years in the early 2000's when I was a teen. Jerry Joe was a good guy. That engineer let me switch customers and taught me how to run the train. Memories I'll never forget. Jerry was a genuinely good man.@@nicholasmedovich8691

He didn't have much choice, his health was rapidly failing and who else was going to buy it. At least the funds from the sale have been invested properly to maintaining the Age of Steam Roundhouse in perpetuity, and he deserves credit for that.

He sold out in 2008 and croaked in 2017. I stick with my statement.

@@ScottTaipaleRail He didn't know how much longer he had when he was diagnosed, and the roundhouse was rushed to completion in 2010 because everyone involved was genuinely concerned he wouldn't make it to see it's completion at the time. It's easy to judge from a distance, but I've discussed what happened with several different people that were around at the time, and as much as I loathe G&W stripping away the Ohio Central's soul, I understand why the very difficult decisions were made. And even though he managed to stick around until 2017, he was in absolutely no condition to manage the business the last several year.
