For those who are noticing the several derailments, this video was taken in the late spring as the park was getting reopened for the summer running season. The winter weather can be hard on the track, lots of frost heaves, pine needles and nasty little green pine cones, not to mention tree roots that like to grow right down the middle of the track. It takes several months of dedicated hard work by the all volunteer track gang to get things running smoothly. This past week I ran over the same route we filmed on without any derailments. Thanks track gang.

This was surprisingly a lot more fun than I expected at the start. I love that you highlight hobbies like this as well, I had no idea this was a thing.
I grew up near a ( much smaller ) small railroad in Maryland... Until sometime in the late 1980's, it used a real small sized steam locomotive, which is what I rode as a child. It is still there to this day, using electric trains. I'll never forget riding that train with lots of other kids, and your video brought back those memories. Thank you!
Very cute and cool, love it when a plan comes together. So much fun and friendships develop with such projects, the smiles and fun the kids have probably make it all worth it for the guys. Way to go good people.
Turntables were invented in order to be able to place a locomotive in any stall in a roundhouse, either forward or backward without having to move any other engines. A roundhouse is a building designed so that you can place the most engines inside under cover using the least amount of space. Some are shaped like donuts, with the turntable in the center and space left open to move engines in and out. Others are arcs, the size of which depends on the number of stalls. The ability to turn equipment around is an added benefit, but not the reason they were originally made. Turntables were not usually built alone, but with roundhouses.

Very cool. The Fort Worth Zoo has a miniature train that's slightly larger scale than Train Mountain's and has a 5 mile track. I remember riding it as a child and falling in love with trains. It's been closed for a couple years but is set to reopen this summer.

Been here several times as my uncle is a member and has several locomotives including steam it’s an awesome time that said if you bring small kids to places like this keep a close eye on them because well small hands like touching things and the boiler even on these steam locomotives is around 440 degrees. But it’s an amazing hobby every single loco and car is largely hand built by the owner in their garage or shop and as you can see here the finished projects are functioning works of art.
Thank you for sharing this! What a size of an 1:8 scale ❤️ What i like most is that you can feel the passion of the people who are working these railroads!
Kids really enjoy this tracking train adventure that pass several blocks from railway station. I thought, I ride this adventure all along by changing my dream to create my train session. This makes this what it means to my day.
We visited the train mountian museum today, as it's only about an hour drive from our home. It was better than we imagined. Seeing everything in real life was amazing. We already have plans to go again in the spring!
I used to live there 25 years ago while going to college. In my spare time I would volunteer building switches to be used later during a work week. That place is amazing!!
The longest was built in Scotland five years ago and was 72 miles long. However it no longer exists as legal requirements meant it was built as a temporary structure in the National park and taken up after a few days of it being finished . It was a live steam engine approximately G Scale.
13:45 Not necessarily just for steam locomotives. Large diesel locomotives are maintained at large maintenance facilities for working on all train equipment, but mostly diesel locomotives. The turntable is used to get them into the different specialty shops for repair and maintenance.
Ron is an amazing human being and easily one of the best engineers I've ever met! Good to see you again sir and I'm glad you're still out enjoying retirement!
Absolutely incredible! Riding on the world's longest model train track sounds like a dream come true for any rail enthusiast. It's amazing to see such large-scale model trains that you can actually ride, especially those that are built outdoors. The engineering and planning required to create this must be quite extensive. Do you know what gauge they are using for these tracks? Also, how do they manage maintenance and weather challenges? Thanks for sharing this impressive experience-it really showcases the scale and potential of model railroading!
This is absolutely amazing. These are functional models which is even more impressive, and the fact that houses have such detail interiors is mind blowing. I admire the dedication to the hobby! God bless you sir :)
I loved that cartoon with Donald Duck who had a model train track and Chip and Dale who hid in a village made of model houses, and seeing this video made me so happy that such a place exists in reality!
the derailment tool reminds me of the nice benefit of the "car railroad crossing" bits you can get for small hand held model trains. the tracks tends to be really small to get on the rails so running the train back and forth on the railroad crossing track sections will auto rerail the model trains.
This feels like it should have a couple of sidings put on it and families can catch a train out to a picnic spot and relax for a few hours in the open air before a train comes by to pick them up and take them back to the station.
This track is so beautiful I got to go on it as a teen and it somehow really helped me and made me just happier knowing it exists and how peaceful the ride was along with living so close I could always go again even if I never did, yet.
There are a few Model railways like this near to where I live on England, and I volunteer at one of them - they aren't nearly as long as this but they are still great fun!
I saw your Chanel and I had heard of train mountain but never seen anything about on video and like you that HD to be a blast riding all day on the long version of the ride wow!! Enjoyed watching your video my compliments sir n my compliments I was grinning thru te whole video 😅
I remember we had something similar here in Michigan called Junction Valley, I remember going as much as possible to ride the scaled-down model trains it was genuinely magical it was a shame they had to close. I can still remember the last ride before they shut down.
I have seen and watched several video's, but this is by far the best experience I have ever watched. Every man's dream to have fun on a layout like this. If I ever am close to the Train Mountain Railroad I will be making a stop and begging for a ride. It is awesome.
This is awesome. Steam engines go equally well in either direction. In about 1969 in New Zealand I had a friend who was an engineer on an in service steam engine that made a daily run in the mountains to exchange miners and pick up coal. I went on the train in the engine one day and the engine went forward to the mine and in reverse down the hill. It was truly exciting and I'm very lucky to have ridden in the engine of a steam engine train that was not a tourist attraction. 😮😮
For those who are noticing the several derailments, this video was taken in the late spring as the park was getting reopened for the summer running season. And the trains, particularly the engines, are so heavy that the rerailers are essential to prevent bad backs!

We visited the train mountian museum today, as it's only about an hour drive from our home. It was better than we imagined. Seeing everything in real life was amazing. We already have plans to go again in the spring!
Omg that had to be one of the best train adventures you've taken us on! Thank you! 💛🧡💛
Isn't it? All that land. Why not for the railroad? FUN!
This is so peaceful and 2014 vibe 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I used to live there 25 years ago while going to college. In my spare time I would volunteer building switches to be used later during a work week. That place is amazing!!
The longest was built in Scotland five years ago and was 72 miles long. However it no longer exists as legal requirements meant it was built as a temporary structure in the National park and taken up after a few days of it being finished . It was a live steam engine approximately G Scale.

Not necessarily just for steam locomotives.
This man did not overlook a little engine. You have my respect.
As a train enthusiast this is so friggin amazing :). This man did not overlook a little engine. You have my respect..
Hello, Happy Canada Day!
This. Was. So. COOL. -- Great work, Mike. Another Downie Discovery. Thank you for it.
Ron is livin the life
This is so awesome, what a cool hobby! You can tell he enjoys his job :D
Totally!
This is absolutely amazing. These are functional models which is even more impressive, and the fact that houses have such detail interiors is mind blowing. I admire the dedication to the hobby! God bless you sir :)
That's epic
I loved that cartoon with Donald Duck who had a model train track and Chip and Dale who hid in a village made of model houses, and seeing this video made me so happy that such a place exists in reality!
If Sheldon Cooper were real, he would be losing his mind over this.😂
I love trains!😍 Never seen this kind before though. Smiling from ear to ear during the whole video🤩 Thanks Mike for sharing!
the derailment tool reminds me of the nice benefit of the "car railroad crossing" bits you can get for small hand held model trains. the tracks tends to be really small to get on the rails so running the train back and forth on the railroad crossing track sections will auto rerail the model trains.
This feels like it should have a couple of sidings put on it and families can catch a train out to a picnic spot and relax for a few hours in the open air before a train comes by to pick them up and take them back to the station.
But Mike, did you get to do a bathroom check on that train???? 😀
this is amazing!! The owner lives his life for real, like he want to. Great respect to people like him.
As a train enthusiast this is so friggin amazing :)
You might like the Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg, Germany.
What amazing passion that some people have for the things they love.
This kind of thing gives me hope and puts a smile on my face.
my town has a small model train and it’s super cool. they only run during the summer but they go all the way around our park. this is so nostalgic :)
Man, this makes me happy. I’d absolutely love to visit this place!
I saw your Chanel and I had heard of train mountain but never seen anything about on video and like you that HD to be a blast riding all day on the long version of the ride wow!! Enjoyed watching your video my compliments sir n my compliments I was grinning thru te whole video 😅
I just stepped back to a simpler and more peaceful time! It is filled with dreams and joyous memories! You made my day! Subscribed!
I remember we had something similar here in Michigan called Junction Valley, I remember going as much as possible to ride the scaled-down model trains it was genuinely magical it was a shame they had to close. I can still remember the last ride before they shut down.
There are a couple of other spots similar in Michigan but none as large or with nearly as many locomotives as that one.
I love this 1/8 scale model! The car seats make this all the more luxurious! 😅
Absolutamente increible , he rejuvenecido 40 años . Congratulations from Spain.
I love the aerial video footage! It provides a great overview of the layout!
Love this vlog. Astonishing how seriously these people take this hobby.
This video is so wholesome! You can tell all the guys involved love their hobby and their dedication shows. Really great people!
I have seen and watched several video's, but this is by far the best experience I have ever watched. Every man's dream to have fun on a layout like this. If I ever am close to the Train Mountain Railroad I will be making a stop and begging for a ride. It is awesome.
can't help myself from smiling for the entire video, and realizing that i have tears down my eyes at the end of the video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
