I only do gas valves on the fly. Close the cold inlet, open all the hots till they suck in air and shut them off. Now the tank is air locked. Even when you take the valve out almost no water spills. Easy

Should have checked if in lock mode. There are steps you can go through with out replacing the valve.

If this thing went off on high temperature wouldn't you check the screen to see if it's dirty it's not getting enough air give it a good cleaning inside and out before buying a new control because if it's dirty it's only going to go off again

Hey Mike was just wondering about that drip leg. Was it not necessary because there was one upstream?

So is the ONLY way to fix that is to replace the valve? It cant be reset in any way?

Mikey Pipes!!! I live in the midwest and have a gas water heater. Does it need to be drained once a year?

Why not try the reset procedure first… and get yourself an LED headlight. I never set my Honeywell valve above “Hot” for just this reason. Those encapsulated valve probes do not react fast enough to the rising water temp until water is too hot and so shutdown from overheat. Worse when scale has built up on probe plastic encapsulation. I fixed mine with overnight soak with 4 gallons of “cleaning vinegar”. (Home Depot). Shut off water inlet and gas. Remove pressure/temp safety release valve and pour in vinegar with flexible funnel. Soak safety valve in vinegar also. Flush tank with inlet valve on and off. No more code 4.

Sir, can you tell me why my hot water heater has hot water come out the the relief valve sometimes, I keep a jug taped on it because it will fill it up about a forth to a have of the jug. Iv got a leak on the cold water pipe on top on the hot water heater where the pipe for cold water connects into the tank I cut the valve off that goes to it to keep from leaking in the floor, and keep a towel around it to soak up the water leaks. It didn't leak when I put it in that started months later. Just asking because can't call a repairman right now. I'm almost 70 yrs old lady, and thought I might could fix it if its not to complicated...

honeywell blink light gas valves are shit, cpu plastic threads, thermister crap parts. i prefer old school brass threads and thermocouole safety navian of gas controls
