How much you install water heater?
Dennis - What did you remove from the cold water input of the tank ( @ 11:25)?
Thanks for all the info and details. Ditto for using and recommending Channellock pliers, please put the name in description! They are also my favorite pliers (have them in many sizes) and they are proudly made in the USA!
Excellent video. Very detailed with good information throughout. Looks like I will be returning my galvanized fittings for brass!
I like how you didnt edit out the mistake of not shutting of water supply. Good job.
I don't need either of these right now but I found this interesting to watch. The plumber is very good at explaining the process.
Thank God I finally found a how to video worth watching. I was struggling with the supply pipe connections for the tank. Thanks 🙏🏻
Best video on DYI expansion tank installation from scratch. Other videos only showed how to screw on an expansion tank after all of the piping was already done (who wouldn’t know how to do that?).
Thank you for the detail list of parts. It was very helpful.
Dennis, thank you very much for making this step by step video. Just replaced my expansion tab and saved some money.
Sir, thank you so much! Perfect instructional video making it clear and simple and excellent explanations.
Hey Dennis,
I wanted to express my gratitude for your excellent video on installing the Expansion Water Tank. Thanks to your clear instructions, I successfully installed mine. Additionally, I took it a step further and added a gauge to monitor temperature and pressure. You're truly the man!
Excellent video! Lots of great tips of how to install an expansion tank given by a true professional!
Good tip about flattening out the sharp portion that comes into contact with the rubber seal. Didn't even think about that!
You just saved me a minimum of 300 bucks. Appreciate you putting together this video!
Nice, easy-to-follow instructions. Thanks. I installed a circulation pump years ago but never knew I needed this tank. Guess my job isn't done yet!
Thank you so much. I am so glad I found this video. I am currently replacing my water heater and the expansion tank.
Thanks for Expanding my knowledge on Expansion tanks.
Nicely explained and gave me the confidence to do mine, thank you. I put a shut-off on mine, right below the tank in case I have to change it out or re-pressure it in the future.
Thanks a lot Dennis! My 15 yr old expansion tank is failing today. It is dripping from the side. Looks like there is a crack. Looks like it's a 2 gallon expansion tank. I'll follow all the steps you did to make installation safe.
This is one of the very best videos (and clear explanation) of a job most plumbers would say you need a professional. If someone has basic to intermediate skills, this video should encourage a homeowner to DIY this project. Thanks!
I agree. Just remember to turn off the water supply on the "cold" side and if you have an electric water heater turn off the breaker *first*
This is a really good video Dennis. I'm very glad I found it. Thank you for sharing. 👍
This was very informative. It helped me so much. Thank you.
Great commentary and the part about smoothing the pipe end. WOW. I would never have thought of that. Thanks Dennis!
Do a video on changing the rubber hoses to the clothes washer. They can be a real problem when they break due to age and high water pressure.
Great work on the expansion tank.
Looks good, Dennis.
We also put a valve at the tank, for easier swap. By orienting the tank with potable connection on top you eliminate air in the tank, also if bladder fails you have less water spillage when replacing.
Your right about tight, too. It’s easy to damage brass threads especially when using Teflon tape and dope, but it’s a great joint when done right.
Plumbers are weird AF. This one is obsessed with "nipple". Most, if not all, have a feces fetish.
I added a valve also when I installed mine.
NOW I KNOW HOW TO ADD MY expansion TANK thank you 🙏🏽🙌🏽
Very good video, Dennis! 👍👍
I always install a valve on the hot side.
Then, for example, when replacing the heater, the shut-off at the house main valve is not necessary. And the hot water can be turned off completely if necessary without having to turn off the cold water at the main valve.
you sir are a genius.. you just saved me lot of time and money. best part is i did not have to solder anything.. thank you
Sumat, I am glad my video was helpful. Please share the video on your social media to help the channel grow. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the video. I have watched several, and yours was the best. I installed using the exact parts exactly the way you did. Great instruction. Thanks!
Very good video BRAVO you are the only technician who going by the regulations BRAVO again.
Well done. Good photography and clear audio. Covered all the points. Thanks
Hi Dennis, thanks for the heads up. I had some questions about my existing expansion tank that you covered in the video
Thanks friend! Excellent instructions on a job I need to get done today. I really appreciate it.
Best video ever. Thank you so much for showing how this works!
This is a great how-to video, Thank you so much!!!
Very helpful when I was replacing my water heater and discovered that I should add an expansion tank. The video took away all the mystery. I’ll be sure to check Dennis’ channel if I have another plumbing job.
We needed a new heater shortly after moving in both old and new leaked from pressure release area.... we have an expansion take but replacing it was never mentioned not even by the home inspection at time of purchase. 😢
Very informative, I think I will do mine exactly as you showed it, Thanks a bunch.
Great video I just did the same installation today. Much better than the plumber did.He change my water heater tank and never check or change my expansion tank and it was bad my thermostat pressure valve was leaking because of a that .I save $200 doing it my self .
Why don't you get a pipevise and a 14" Stillson? The vessel is much too close to the tank
You were very good explaining & showing how to
Thank you
Advice from me!
When applying T-tape it makes it a lot easier to apply if you face the roll away from your fitting so you can just use the tension to pull it together Instead of struggling.
Love your videos man! Keep up the great work!
I remember . it was the first thing I learned in my plumbing trainning 🤨
Can you provide more details?
Thanks SO much! Great video and easy to understand! Plus, thanks for listing the parts!
Excellent demostration and easy to understand. Well done.
You might not need an expansion tank now, but need one later. That's what happened at my rental when the city swapped the meter to one with a backflow preventer. It was a bit of a mess. I recommend getting an expansion tank, even if you don't need one.
Great video, sir! Very well explained. Thank you
I liked your video very detailed. I am a very handy person and I will be installing one at my house. I am also using your links to get things like the tank and water meter. Thank you
- Jorge in Florida, USA
Thanks all i needed to know and learned a few new tricks,,well done sir !!!
Very good video. Easy to understand and follow. Thanks!
Nice work Dennis, when applying Teflon tape start from outside not inside, that way you will have a very good tension on it.
Great explanation for DIYers. Thanks a lot.
You are welcome
Awesome video brother! Thank you!
Good video, lots of content in a short amount of time....👍
It was very informative simple and clean install
Thank you, you made it easy .
Dude, this is the absolute best video I've seen on how to install the tank. Mine has been sitting in the box for two years. Definitely putting it on this weekend now.
Ikr?
Dang brass fittings are pricey. Roughly $10 per piece at Lowes.
@@thelsel348 yes they are and people already cringe at the repair invoicing amounts. Fuel costs are driving up the overhead too, long story short, business has been gradually slowing down this year as prices continue to rise.
You’re absolutely right! Smooth explanation!
@@thelsel348 use copper. Don’t have to use brass, just not galvanized.
Excellent tip about flattening the sharp edges. I do same with the raw pipe ends for Sharkbite connections. LIGHTLY file the leading edge.
My friend you did very good job
I like the tip of knocking down the edges.
Excellent job.
Great video, very helpful. FYI, you can adjust the air in the tank with any air pump, even the type used on bicycle tires. It's a standard schrader valve.
Yeah, using that bicycle pump to get to 80psi will be a great workout!
@@mikefranks4528 its option for those not wanting to buy a whole new device
Great presentation. Thank you
Thank you. From Denver, Colorado.
Great content I helpd my buddy who is a plumber recently install a unit, he said it is code the pressure tank needs to be strapped and supported by some kind of bracket.
Some kind of bracket, ha ha
It has to be strapped if copper is used. No need to strap with galvanized or brass fittings as far as I know
@Col Braddock well that's what he said lol I don't know the terminology I'm a computer and weapon guy. I only know about computers and guns.
Excellent video. Thank you!
Your awesome 👏🏽 thanks sir. Very informative video.
NICE Install... 👍
Thank you, Dennis.
Thanks that was a very good vid.
How about doing a video on how to install a recirculating pump! You’re doing a great job👍👍👍great instructional video!
Great video, thank u!
Are use a hand held grinding wheel to deburr and flatten edges.
But definitely grinding the top of the nipple was extremely important and helpful information.
Very good video and thanks for the amazon parts list. It is exactly what I was looking for and more.
Very welcome!
@@dennistheplumber installation went well, but i guess there’s a separate closed system on the roof attached to my solar hot water panels. That pressure relief valve control continues to blow off hot water daily. Not sure how to remedy that. Any ideas?
What is the overall pressure in the plumbing system? Measure right after the pressure regulator.
@@dennistheplumber pressure is about 80 psi when I measure where the expansion tank is. There’s a 150 psi pressure release valve on the tank that never activates. However the one on the roof blows daily during peak hours 11am - 2pm. I’d have to buy a brass tee to measure the pressure near the solar panel on the roof. The tank may be way oversized. 120ga for two adults and three toddlers that we bathe together.
Fantastic video
Thank you,great job.
Well done my friend!!
Nice Work! Thanks
absolutely correct!
Bruh, thank you! You rock.
Thanks you for the video
Knowledgeable. Thanks
You're the best !
Well done. Well done indeed
Thank you. I literally took a seat in the offices of the plumbing supply store to rewatch and make sure I had everything. One thing no one highlights, the pressure valve is a BIKE size valve, not car tire.
It is called a schrader valve.
Wish there was a way to post pics of our finished products - Great video and parts list.
Спасибо вам Денис!!! У нас колодец и мы устанавливаем фильтры и переживаем что вода в доме просто перестанет бежать.
Thanks for your help,, 😊
Thank you sir!
Thanks. I appreciate your help. I will look at your parts link.
Nice video thank you
Very good 👍
VERY GOOD VIDEO
U strong 💪 like bull. 👍 Connected! Licensed plumber here as well! Keep up the great work! 👍 Blessings!
Thanks Dennis
My expansion tank was put on the hot side when the house was built. After 14 years I needed a new water heater and it was out on the hot side too. Now we are selling and the home inspector said we should switch it to the inlet or cold side.
I like your tip on grinding the top nipple for attaching the water supply line. I spent two hours today trying to get the cold water supply line to not leak when I had to replace the water heater in a rental unit. I tried replacing the washer with a new one (Everbilt), but it was not even half as thick as the original one. Junk rubber washer IMO. I then tried flipping the original one upside down. Still got a small leak. I gave up for the night and had 4 fingers of vodka to take away the frustration. Tomorrow I will exchange the black steel nipple that was originally on there with a brass one that has been filed down. Hopefully this will fix the leak. You are right, there is no flat surface on those black steel nipples.
You fix the leak ?
@@SLickev92 Lol, I fixed it, but I don't remember how. I have a recollection of buying a thicker washer. I just looked back at my Amazon history, and found that I had ordered a Danco 65884B Water Heater Supply Line Washer. I think that's what I tried and it worked.
Excelente!
Thank you
Nice job.
Thank you! ❤️
Thank you.
I have used the concrete floor as a file before. But I never had expansion tank on my house. There is supposed to be a back flow on every home to protect the public water. So I guess I'm breaking the law. Straight from the main to water heater for all my life. But I never use flex ,I always solder it or as of lately there is a couple pro press joints .. I heard it was a need for an expansion tank But I don't see it,I see it as a new rule that popped up somewhere...But I don't do plumbing on peoples houses either.. It has to be a rule implemented after the 90's.I have no idea when the codes for expansion tanks were introduced and I probably need to read up,But it's working out without one here and always has... Good video young man, Happy Holidays
Dennis- when using monster tape you should only wrap 2 complete turns othwise its to thick for hose ends or couplings.
Thanks, my inspector says I need one for this ADU I am finishing up.
