You need a tube and a bottle to bleed brakes you can't do it like that, plus the fluid will contaminate the brake pads and strip your paint off. With a bottle you will see the bubbles and catch the fluid.
What are you talking about? As long as there is fluid up in the brake reservoir and it’s not going dry while your pumping brake pedal and then taking nut loose? How I’ve ALWAYS bled all my brakes and I’m still? Confused on what you mean about a bottle 😂🤣

You are 100% correct thank you. That would have saved me the mess. We usually use a vacuum brake bleeder but it played out on us and I got in a hurry.
What about the inside seal on the rotor, did I miss you applying it?

What did you refinish your frame with?
I scraped all the old factory undercoating off and painted it with VHT Satin Black Roll Bar and chassis Paint
