What a great guy. I’ve been a fan of his since The Moon is Down, and finally met him when he was touring in his (short lived) band Twin Forks. Really nice guy. Approachable, down to earth, and gracious with his time.
I grew up in the south Florida punk scene from mid 90’s to early 2000’s and I saw Further Seems Forever countless times. I remember when he first put the gears of Dashboard into effect and he played to a small crowd on a metal stage at a fair. Just him, a stool and his guitar. His first 2 albums were the soundtrack to my college years and some heavy break ups.
Dashboard Confessional. I haven't thought about that band in years. Dude seems mellow and down to Earth and his picks totally reflect the vibe that I'm getting from him. Not a bad episode...
The REM record is known as an "Interview disc" this was common for Underground bands (Alternative, Punk, Goth, Electro-Industrial etc) back in the 1980's to get there voices heard. Young people today need to know that Alternative Rock bands were NOT popular music back in the 80's, all mainstream media forms ignored them. So fanzines, college radio & indie labels had to invent new ways to promote bands. (with indie label interview discs/ flexi discs in fanzines/ college radio compilations lps)
A format also popular amongst "fan club" (bootleg) labels of high profile '60s/'70s bands. People would record band interviews done by the BBC and other news/radio outlets then press them onto vinyl (usually picture disc) to sell to obsessed fans. Super important pieces of documentation now, but at the time highly illegal.
Chris talks Emo. Honestly still love this guy's music. Took me many years, but I finally saw Dashboard Confessional when they opened up for Third Eye Blind.
No! Its so strange. If anyone else said this, I would think they were annoying but its hard to even focus on what he's saying because im just trying to figure out how his face is so different.
@@Noise_floorxx I hear you - I totally didn't even mean it hatefully. It's just this odd feeling like a different person was placed in front of me, and I'm trying to convince me it's the same human being lol.
@@thepickingpauper9652 Is cosmetic treatment a possibility outside of that? I'm not hating just curious. I'm 31 and stressed as shit, and it's just made me look old. Not like a different person.
That Promise Ring album is great but for me, Wood/Water is their masterpiece and totally underrated. Actually first heard it at my old job right around when i also first heard Dashboard.
I think Refused did the last definitive hardcore album. We have the classics, You know, black flag, Bad brains, dead kennedys, Refused get a spot with them with that record.
at the very least, I'd add "Relationship of Command" to that. (of course, that begs the question (which the Dashboard guy also kinda brought up) if one would even consider At The Drive-In to be a "hardcore band")
Jimmy Eat World sounds like a corporate chain of global-cuisine-inspired all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants. In fact if somebody doesn't found a chain of Jimmy Eat Worlds I'll do it myself.
Absolutely brilliant selections here. Bob Mould fucking rocks forever, and he has never got enough recognition. I'm going to check out The Refused and The Promise Ring as well.
I don’t listen to Dashboard, but I appreciate his eloquence. we’re all so isolated in our own little niches.. you can tell there’s an ahem, confessional aspect when he got to review his influences.
@@johndub6543 hes looked that way long before the accident. He had work done on his face. It was more evident in live performances before he grew the beard which hides it
ah yes, the guy whose music i pretended to like in high school because so many other braindead sadboi faux-friends were head over heels for his nasal-whiny dipshittery. joke's on me... not because his music is any good (it absolutely is not) but because he seems like a real sweetheart.
Idk man. I feel like early Dashboard holds up really well compared to other artists from the scene. Swiss Army Romance and Places You Have Come to Fear the Most are just him and his acoustic guitar. No fancy bells and whistles, just solid songwriting. As for his voice, dude has a wide range. I like how he can go between hushed whispers to singing at the top of his lungs so effortlessly.

The Moon Is Down is such an incredible masterpiece of music. Still holds up today.

No wonder his singing style reminds me so much of The Cure. He's big fan of them. Great work Chris and Dashboard Confessional ❤
That Refused album was amazing. A self fulfilling prophecy.
Perfect explanation of The Shape of Punk to Come and one of my favorite albums to put on the record player and crank up
This dude would make a great actor. He enunciates well 😊👍🏻
