- We look at how you evaluate tractors to do a first start or will it run for a Farmall M but it's basically the same for every old tractor or car barnfind

Damn.. I’m so glad I came upon this. I bought a antique tractor but I don’t know a freaking thing about tractors, I finally got the motor unstuck but I didn’t even know where to start with trying to start it.
That’s exactly why I made this video
Please let us know if you have any luck with it I always say If it will turn it will run just maybe not well thanks for watching
@@DrRustdo you have any suggestions for battery size/capacity?
What type of tractor is it? and 6 or 12 volt?
@@DrRust 12 Volt. 1950 Fordson Major e27N in Northern Ontario
Thanks for the video. My 92yr old FIL has a Super AV that hasn't been started in 10yrs or more. I think I'll try it out!
Hopefully it starts right up
Thanks for this. I have been playing whackamole on my tractor that was running fine but shut off while I was brush hogging. Replacing the ignition got it running twice. I did that because the headlights not working made me think it must be the ignition. Then I replace the igniton again which worked twice again. Traced the power and found the aftermarket Ammeter (I assume installed when the prior owner switched from a generator to an alternator). Bypassing the ammeter got it to turn over again but its not starting. From your video I took the coil cable off the distributor and I am not seeing a spark. Took the coil out and I'm getting no ohm reading or continuity so I ordered a new coil. Hopefully tomorrow I can finally get the tractor going again.
I’m glad I could help hopefully that does it
I don't have a tractor but wish I did. I could keep this road up a little better BUT sooner or later someone will bring a hoe by and I'll snag it and work the road so I don't guess I need one. All my fixes are small engines and go with a lot of the same guide lines. And all are freebies/rescues or not for much. Either $15 or $30 for the most expensive one for tubes the other owner put in. All are saved from scrap and all run and run well. They even cut grass! And if I can't use something I'll give it to someone that can and will. And that sediment bowl is telling on you! Good deal and GBWYall!
I love anything internal combustion so I always get wrapped up in the weirdest things
People give me chainsaws and rototillers pretty often
@@DrRust I used to be the neighborhood fixer but am doing good now to keep my own stuff going. I drove CDL/chauffeur and ran heavy equipment all my life so it all worked out fine.
That’s cool my grandpa was a teamster his whole life and my dad was a heavy equipment operator/mechanic for most of my growing up
@@DrRust i really started driving around 17 or so but fooling with stuff before that, Army 5-tons at 19, chauffeurs license at 21 and on it went, or maybe it still goes.
I’d like to get to drive a 5 or 10 ton some day
I’m abt to purchase a Farmall H that hasn’t run for 3 years so hopefully I can get it started
Good luck
@@DrRust Thanks!
I enjoy waking up a sleeping zombie engine. The first step is to try and do no harm. I tend to pull the oil pan on everything and check for sludge and that the oil pump intake screen isnt clogged.
That’s probably a good idea
hello there - I just picked up a M - what size tires do you have on the front ? I have 6.50x16 and they are dry rotted and need replacement. I will be looking for some new ones and hopefully not break the bank.
Thanks for the video. I'm currently cleaning the carb and gas tank. I had it running on some starter fluid before I dumped any time or money into it.
6.00 or 6.50 will work well if you have smaller back tires then I would go with 6.00-16
The last set I bought was on Amazon a package deal two, three rib tires and tubes
@@DrRust thank you - the rear tires are huge
I have a 715 ih gas combine .its was owned by my cousin but he passed away its been sitting under the shed over 5 years.i cleaned the tank new fuel, cleaned the fuel pump, new plugs, it is sucking fuel i loosened the fuel line from the carb and it’s getting fuel .but it just wont start i tried choking it and it still wont start.could you help me !?
Have you checked for spark?
@@DrRust I haven’t !,everyone has been telling me to check for spark ! You think that could be the problem ?
If it doesn’t have spark it can’t run so I bet that’s it probably just have to clean the points
@@DrRust will sand paper do it?
It might but I recommend a points file they are cheap and very useful
Check coolant
Yes I can’t believe I missed that part
You forgot to check the oil 😮
Oil only Matters if it runs lol
Your right I should have talked about it
