The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan SE Interior is Roomy but Unexciting

  • Beth and I review the interior in this 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan SE R-Line Black and talk about how it compares to all the other compact crossovers in this segment. The Tiguan is one of the cheapest ways to get a 3rd row in a new crossover, and when it comes to interior space, it's top-notch for its segment. Beyond the roominess, the Tiguan falls short, with an overall cheaper feeling interior than just about every other competitor out there. While this SE trim doesn't have the niceties of the SEL like digital gauges or ventilated seats, all versions of the Tiguan suffer from cheap, hard feeling plastics and dated VW switchgear. While some people may appreciate this for its simplicity and durability, the fact is the Tiguan interior feels much less impressive than most of its competitors do for the same money. What do you think of the VW Tiguan interior? Thanks to Volkswagen for providing this vehicle to review.

    Everybody knocks on the interior of this car but it's well put together and isn't going to fall apart over a 6 year span, is easy to clean, and easy to use. Sometimes less is more.

      Many brands are well put together nowadays. VW is penny pinching from dieselgate. The rear doors are plastic when they originally weren’t. I get they need to save money but their cars are so far behind in initial quality

    I actually appreciate the overall simplicity in design here and I like the volume/tuning knobs and analog gauges. That said tho, I do wish they’d step up the material quality to what they deliver in the Golf. And a little more aesthetic flair certainly wouldn’t hurt either.

      this starts at 25k which is DIRT cheap for a 3rd row.

    You spot the independent car UA-camr when he wears a Toyota Jacket in the VW. Definitely, VW did not pay for this video :-D - Great Review! Look at all the Isofix mounts! Will be an important topic soon!

    VW makes the cheaper versions, the parent company wants you to move up to Audi if you want more luxury. And then up to Porsche if you want the highest quality materials and performance.

    This is pre-haircut video for Matt. Kia Sorrento also better warranty and likely more reliable. Nice snowy background. Thank you for another great interior car review. Channel is unique in doing interior car reviews.

      Yeah it's like a basic Audi Q3, or is the Audi Q3 a fancy Tiguan?

    Just got a 2021 SE-R and the interior is cool two toned snug and I love it. Thought I was getting a 3rd row but didn't... I agree with the instrument panel !!

    My dad test drove a blue 2020 SEL R Line last year it was nice but not the best. I hope that Volkswagen does better with the all new upcoming 2022 Toas. Because my sister wants to look at one and test drive one when those come out. Because the lease on her 2018 Toyota RAV4 XLE comes up by the end of this year.

      They look good but are boring too on the inside with lots of plastic. They did add some contrast stitching to the doors which helps some

      VW loves their hard, cheap, plastic. I was considering a 2020 GLI, but that interior quality just turned me away from.

  • @TheAk47fish
    @TheAk47fish 3 роки тому +1

    As someone who has a MK6 GLI, and multiple friends with a MK7 or 2019 and new Jetta, I agree the interiors could be nicer. When I first sat in the current gen Tiguan, I was super disappointed. And honestly, I still am. While it may have some features that others lack, the materials aren’t where I’d expect them. I get it, it’s cheaper for a reason. But as Matt stated, for 30 whatever thousand that this vehicle is, I’d expect better materials. Interior materials have always been my number one complaint with my GLI. I expect some nicer feeling materials for the price. When I worked at Mazda in 2016, their interior materials were better than VW. And that’s still accurate, however I don’t know the price difference between the two companies anymore. I’m willing to overlook some materials for some features it has, but it doesn’t out-weigh it.

  • @wg5331
    @wg5331 3 роки тому +5

    I sat in the entire range of VW products over the weekend and they are all super bland. I know German cars are more subtle historically but damn... it’s boring.
    Also, I noticed the materials aren’t as great as just a few years ago. I think the current models blandness and lack of quality are the first consequences of dieselgate.

    Generations who grew up on video games apparently demand something similar in their gauge clusters and infotainment screens. VW sticks with functionality over flash and a minimalist aesthetic. It's a plus from my perspective.

  • @VWGTI123
    @VWGTI123 3 роки тому +1

    VW interiors are for people with OCD And that is not a bad thing. Everything is functional and where you want/expect it to be. The new VW's without knobs and switches is really going to upset many loyal buyers IMO.

    A Volkswagen interior is not supposed to be exciting. That’s what Volkswagen drivers like about Volkswagen’s; Crisp clean lines inside and out. If they wanted sharp edgy and curvy they’d get an Asian make.

    Interior has too much plastic, but panoramic roof is awesome! And adjustable (manually) passenger seat is a nice touch. But there is real competition in this class. Beth said it all: "blah". Great review Matt and Beth.

    You can get digital gauges on the SEL non premium trim. Should fact check stuff like this.

      You're right, thank you for the correction. It just requires you to give up this R-Line styling sadly if you go non-premium SEL.

    panoramic roofs are a waste of time, add weight, noise and you use them maybe 1x a year, same holds for sunroofs, over 30mph too much noise, agree with the adding more openness to the space though, especially if its all black.
