RIP, Jimmy Beaumont, & All Skyliners who have passed. beautiful music is forever, & these 2 are among the very best, ever & ever. ----------MJL, 77 y/o
Jimmy Beaumont is truly a classic singer together with Johnny Maestro. Both are in a class of their own. I love and enjoy all their songs. They really put their soul in their songs.
As the story goes, when the Skyliners were booked at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, few in the audience knew they were white. Concert goers were apprehensive and reserved at first, but by the time the crescendo came, Janet Vogel hit those glorious highs, and Jimmy belted his string of "You-oo, you-oo's" , women jumped up and rushed the stage, in an emotional and appreciative sign of complete and absolute acceptance. If you remember and love this era's music, it was a wonderful time to be alive.
The late Janet Vogel's son is currently producing a movie about his mom and her career with the Skyliners. Let's all support it. This group makes me proud to be from Pittsburgh, PA. If you love music, you've got to love The Skyliners!!!!!!
Someone should do a documentary on Monroeville’s Holiday House. Many famous national Acts preformed there. Frank Sinatra- Sammy Davis-from The 50’s till the 80’s People should love it. Monroeville was a cool place back in the late 50’s.
Ive been to a lot of oldies revivals in the 70's. I had the privilege of seeing a lot of great acts. The Skyliners were one of them. Beautiful harmonies.
Love Love Love this SONG, I wore this Song out on my 45RPM Record Player. I had to buy another Record, “This I Swear is True” and “Since I Don’t Have You” I still get Chills just singing these Beautiful Songs. Brings back a lot of Memories.
Wow, does this take me back. I was born I fifty. I remember the songs of yester year, and will add my cousin Wynn Stewart to the list of music I was introduced to as Wynn was about fifteen years my senior. The voices of long ago have moved to the hear after with class, and I for one hope they greet me with all the voices of gods angels to boot. Blessings to all Kathy stewart-gonzales Lake lsabella california
21st century groups need to go back and listen to this type of music. The blend and harmony of the arrangements is unforgettable. So much heart in their performing. Cannot beat this style of music. Thank you to all those groups and single performers from this era.
Dang! They are such good singers. My heart is melting. It's so romantic. These songs will never go out of style. Timeless. Since I Don't Have You is my favorite. You, you, you, you. Ooooooh!
Definitely one of the top 5 doowop groups of all time. When Jimmy Beaumont was younger, he could sing any lead with the best of them. And their harmonies were just incredibly perfect, not to mention that they wrote and sang some of the most beautiful tunes ever! They were marvelous and uniquely special, and the beautiful music they made still lives on even six decades later.
Jimmy Beaumont and Johnny Maestro were in a class all by themselves during the doo wop and 60”s era. Could listen to them for hours and still do. May they Rest In Peace.
Since I Don't Have You is my favorite doo wop song. I was only 10-1/2 years old when it came out in early '59 (recorded in December of '58). When I heard Jimmy Beaumont (and the current Skyliners) were coming to Sebring, Florida, I told my wife we had to go see them. After the show I shook Jimmy's hand and told him how much I appreciated that song. Little did I know as a kid I would meet Jimmy 54 years later! It was like going back into time -- a much better time, at that!
I’ve never heard anyone with that kind of flexibility in their voice. The closest person to Jimmy’s talent was Aaron Neville and a guy from New Orleans, named Skip Easterling! Janet ... there simply is/was no one better!
I’ve never heard anyone with that kind of flexibility in their voice. The closest person to Jimmy’s talent was Aaron Neville and a guy from New Orleans, named Skip Easterling! Janet ... there simply is/was no one better!
One on my two favorite songs of all time. This song will truly last till time itself is through. I live about 10 minutes from Mr. Beaumont's home and have spoken to him a few times at Renzie Park and Clariton Park. Also have a couple of signed copies of his records. Listened to him many times on a local radio station WMCK in McKeesport Pa. hosted by the Great Terry Lee
Oh my God - I`m just blown away by the sheer genius of this all-time fabulous doo wop harmony vocals group - surely one of the very greatest of ANY era ! To have seen them live back in `74 would have been just as fantastic as being at any Elvis concert !
Wonderful performance. I remember seeing them on tv in 1973 or 1974 and they were so good. This song mom use to play when I was a little guy back then. That man can sing. My goodness can he sing.
*Since I dont have you * is a great classic pop song from the late 50s era. It is truly an epic song from the past. The moment I hear this song all my thoughts will cease and my mind will wonder through the past thinking of the great old days from the late 50s.
Janet was great. I love her. Jimmy Beaumont was very good, and just as good as Frankie V of the four seasons, or anyone else of that era singing falsetto, and back to full voice, in a song, Very difficult to do, Jimmy B was a great lead singer, none like him today. One of the best,
Beaumont sounds completely relaxed in this 1974 clip, as he did, when he and The Slyliners recorded, "Since I Don't Have You" & "This I Swear", in the studio back in the late 1950's. In later clips from 1980's, forward, he seemed less at ease on the stage. With that said, Jimmy Beaumont had an amazing voice, probably, in my opinion, one of the best from the late 1950's and early 1960's.
MrRJDB1969 That is what Dick Clark said, too. He went so far as to say that Jimmy had the "best" voice of the era. You would have to put that in some sort of context, but Dick obviously knew talent.
+MrRJDB1969 A singer is not going to appear relaxed when they're trying to make their voice do what it can't quite do anymore. It's near impossible for many many singers to sound like they did in their prime. Vocal cords age. The nerves and muscles of the larynx can't respond to signals from the brain like they used to. Nerve cells die. Muscles get fatigued easier. You begin to lose pitch control and the higher vocal ranges. Beaumont left his mark. He could flex his voice with the best of them. He was GREAT, and that will NEVER die.
Sir--sadly, that's the main reason I just can't bring myself to see " Oldies " shows, The Beach Boys, or Frankie Valli [ who must be 80 y/o ! ]. It's just to sad. -------Wolfsky9, 69 y/o
Steve52344 - I'm aware of how the voice changes with time and age. Thanks. I'm a fan of Mr. Beaumont, not a critic of the man. He and The Skyliners will be a favorite of mine long into the future.
Captive Bolt (good handle btw!!!) ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!! but unfortunately, we don't see her do her epic work with some of the worst unimaginative camera work ever. Love her work on this song which I think would have been an otherwise pretty ordinary doo wop song without her dramatic vocal work. As I understand the story, she did it impromptu in the recording session, as she thought the session was over when she gave the song that unique vocal extra. Fortunately in the session they didn't turn the switch off right away.
To those who have, like me, grown up with this group, I say it here: Donna Groom is drop-dead gorgeous, and she has a magnificent voice. Janet however, had the 1st " high voice", and she's also unforgettable. We miss you Janet, more and more as time goes by, but Donna carries on for you, with class, beauty, and the voice of an Angel. Wolfsky9
Where are class acts and voices like these today? We miss you guys and the great music you've produced! This music made sense and really helped to raise a lot of people to be wholesome, and decent. Thank you all!!
These are beautiful people I was very young even when it was going this thing was happening but when I see this it shows how people were before cell phones how we live our lives so short beautiful just beautiful words and beautiful things that meant something
Jimmy is relaxed here, he sounds just as good as he did when he and the original group, recorded these two classics, "Since I Don't Have You" & "This I Swear", back in the late 1950's.
What we've learned in the years since we lost her is that --as with Robin Williams--Janet Vogel suffered from depression. How deep it was, & to what degree it overwhelmed her at the end, we do not know. Sad--too sad. Wolfsky9, almost 68 y/o
Thanks for posting this. I’m Jimmie’s age and have enjoyed playing this song since they sang it. As always no matter what concert they sang it it still gives me chills when he and Janet hit those high notes.
Wolfsky9 Janet Vogel was born in 1943. The group has had a lot of tragedy. Two of the original members have died - Janet Vogel (suicide) in 1980 (aged 37), and Joe Verscharen of cancer in 2007 (aged 67). Their longtime manager and producer Joe Rock, who also co-wrote "Since I Don't Have You", died on April 4, 2000, at age 63, after complications from quadruple bypass heart surgery. Terrible things for such a great group!
you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the group.Where can i find out about Jimmy Beaumont i think he is fantastic but i cant find any info on him anywhere.
Really tragic i live in tiny malta and when i learned jimmy passed away igot very angry there wont be singers like these anymore at least we still have their songs to cherish them till death do us part.
Yes there is only one still alive. From the original group what a cruel world but thank GOD and since i dont have you oneday we all meet again this i swore its true
I'm 78 and this song still gives me chills. 😅 4/6/24
❤
Right there with you... Sandra; just a young 77yrs. here🙂
One of my favorite groups in the 60, especially Jimmy Beaumont! and of course the beautiful voice of Ms. Vogel

Beautiful melodies!! why not make a movie about the whole group Skyliners. they deserve to be acknowledged by the younger generations.
Amazing !! Thank you so much ❤ !!
To me, Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners are like "The Temptations" of blue-eyed soul, and one of the best Doo-Wop groups of all time.

A fantastic group that doesn't get enough recognition never hear 60s on XM Radio playing this group and that's a shame
The late Janet Vogel's son is currently producing a movie about his mom and her career with the Skyliners. Let's all support it. This group makes me proud to be from Pittsburgh, PA. If you love music, you've got to love The Skyliners!!!!!!
I bought it. It's sad that her husband was such an insecure, abusive jerk.
Janet was one of a kind!
Someone should do a documentary on Monroeville’s Holiday House.
