@xxrandmlinksxxbruh2419 settle down. What you just said is "an OPENION" In the day.... This is perfect music... What you heard WAS A "COPY" LOL...hurray for us FIRST!🕊
The female in this video (1971) was properly still one of the original members, Janet Vogel. She committed suicide in 1980 and was replaced by Cathy Cooper, for two years. Then Donna Groom joined and has been the groups female voice ever since. She also was one of the backup singers for many of the rock and roll acts that were featured on the PBS oldies shows.
Really sad about Janet Vogel; she suffered from depression. The other two males in this performance were original members, so four of the five original Skyliners were in this video, 12 years after it was a hit.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.......some of the GREATEST music ever recorded.......I grew up with this music running through my soul ! ! ! ! GREAT PERFORMANCE.........I had a 1960 Ford Thunderbird convertible and I was living the dream........THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THE MEMORIES....
As the story goes, when the Skyliners were booked at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, few in the audience knew they were white. Concert goers were apprehensive and reserved at first, but by the time the crescendo came, Janet Vogel hit those glorious highs, and Jimmy belted his string of "You-oo, you-oo's" , women jumped up and rushed the stage, in an emotional and appreciative sign of complete and absolute acceptance. If you remember and love this era's music, it was a wonderful time to be alive.
When songs had meaning, my years as a teenager 1963-1969 growing up in NYC The Peppermint Lounge, The Brooklyn Fox Theater, The World, WOW we had it all!
It’s really cool to see Janet Rapp the original female vocalist in a later video of the skyliners. It’s sad that she dies 9 years after this was filmed.
She missed the last note though. That was painful. The hero and star here is the lead singer. He is/was fabulous. She's a footnote, not a star in this presentation. I apologize for my statement here - and sadly realized that she took her own life. She did have a wonderful vocal range. I guess I spoke too soon.
Thank God for this cameraman who gave us a glimpse of Janet Vogel. Thank you to Jimmy and the whole crew. What a legendary performance. Pittsburgh pride

We all thought no JODY for me but he showed up for our whole tours!!!!!! I dont think any GIs will forget that damn JODY no matter what they say!!!!LOL!!! Thanks-HARRY LORTZ-Class of 64!!
The best era for songs like this amazing song! Songs young teens could slow dance and fall in love to --and in my case "marry the guy I was slow dancing with" #bestmusicbesttimesever
I heard this when it first came out back when I was a kid. I swear, I always thought it was a black group. The falsetto, was perfect. And the girl hitting that high c note at the end, always gives me the chills when I hear it. Great song.
This has to be a recent find, and it makes it the earliest live (as opposed to lip-synced) video of the Skyliners available, 3+ years before the Clay Cole oldies review that's been floating around for at least 20 years. Just think, the original members (minus Jackie), only 12 years removed from when the song was a hit. Janet is great, and looks happy, and Jimmy hasn't grown his famous moustache yet!. The only earlier live audio recording I know of was from a show at NYC's Academy of Music doo-wop show from 1970. Just wonderful, thank you....
Janet Vogel, I feel so bad for her. She had an abusive husband and I think in the 80s she committed suicide. Such a shame. I wish she could have hit that last note, you can see her shake her head at the end. R.I.P. Janet Vogel 🙏❤️🙏you are LOVED ❤ 2:44
@@lloydrobeau5126 yes, she committed suicide. Such a sad story and such a sad life she had. Too bad she didn't get psychological help. What a talented lady she was.
Saw this amazing group in Pickens So Carolina. Not too long after that we lost this unbelievable singer. Was also able to get an autographed picture of Jimmy along with Nick, Donna and Frank. I have it stuck on my dresser mirror. Soo many memories.
I remember how many received their Dear John letters back then. It was always so sad worth worried when your letter would arrive. Many of these songs seemed to bring us love, .and yet worried these guys might kill themselves was worse
This is fantastic. Love the skyliners. I would say that since I don't have you could be the signature song for doo wop like the girl from empenema was for Bossa Nova. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you this is the first time I’ve seen this performance I’m almost 40 and the first time listening to the skyliners was as a boy in the movie la bamba I completely fell in love with their voices it’s crazy how music can bring so much joy to a heart …. I was born in 84 but this was the music I listened to in my youth so strangely these songs take me back 25 years sitting in my grandmothers house watching pbs doo wop specials then many acts we’re still comprised of their original members but after many turns of the calendar pages many are gone now including Jimmy 🥺🥺🥺. RIP Jimmy his music will always live through me
The ORIGINAL Skyliners were Jimmy Beaumont (lead), Janet Vogel (soprano), Wally Lester (tenor), Jackie Taylor (bass voice, guitarist), and Joe Verscharen (baritone). Four of the five are seen here in this video. Jackie Taylor didn't join them when reunited. He is the only original member still living, as of Feb. 2024. The 4 singers seen here have all passed away.
I don't have plans and schemes And I don't have hopes and dreams I don't have anything Since I don't have you I don't have fond desires And I don't have happy hours I don't have anything Since I don't have you I don't have happiness, and I guess I never will again When you walked out on me In walked old misery And he's been here since then I don't have love to share And I don't have one who cares I don't have anything Since I don't have You, you, you, you You, you, you, you You, you, you, you (You)
This was around the beginning of a doo-wop/50's revival. In two years, this great song would be included on the soundtrack to American Graffiti, and it was a pretty big selling soundtrack. And then came Happy Days, for better or worse. Anyway, Jimmy Beaumont had one unique powerful voice. Janet had a good voice as well but she was the victim of too many cigarettes from North Carolina.
July 21, 2024 ....I miss the older days. Every weekend the girls got dressed up in a pretty 👗 and high heels 👠 to go dancing. The men were gentlemen and the girls were ladies. Afterwards, everyone went out to eat. You made real friends, and some have been life long friends.

Jimmy nailed it, even after all these years
It wasn't after that many years. 1971 seems like eons ago, and it was only 12 years after the record. These guys were barely in their 30s!
Might be the best footage of the early to mid 70s line up we have.
