Let's give credit where credit's due. I'm sure Janet Vogel would be proud to have Donna Groom singing her part. Gotta admit Donna does a pretty damn good job of it. I'll be 75 years old been singing and playing doo-wop since I'm 10yrs old I've played with many groups. I know Talent when I see and hear it... we all started doing it for the love of the music, it had little or nothing to do with the money. So many groups never made anything and should have gotten everything. I'll still play and sing if some group needs me. I still love to perform Doo wop. It's either in your blood or it isn't.
Doesn't get much better than this. What was great about the music of the 50's and 60's is it was color blind. If it was good, you bought it and you listened to it. Can you imagine NOT listening to this or any Motown record? Won't happen in my house. Love it all to death.
What a group.....and the inimitable sound! The first orchestrated rock n roll song. Still in vogue today!!!! Yay Pittsburgh and Jimmy Beaumont (from my alma mater, Carrick H.S,) from the city itself. Pittsburgh was the hub of so much doo-wop. What a great heritage I had to be part of it!!!
This is what Oldies is all about. One of the very best songs of the Fifties. Awesome...a Pittsburgh group with a sound that has touched my generation from age 14-75. Love to Jimmy's family. God bless.
lost my wife of 51 years on May 19, 2018 and this song brings it back every time I hear it! It was one of our favorite Skyliner songs, and makes me break down every time I hear it
Yes all who have lost loved ones will see them again after Armageddon when all who have died will be resurrected John 5:28, 29; 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4; Revelation 21:3, 4 🌹🌺🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I feel for ya brother. I lost my wife of 50 years a year ago and I'm in tears now writing this as this was her favorite song. We used to dance to this in the living room. I'd hold her tight and tell her I that I loved her. She's gone now. I struggle to go on.
Rest in peace Jimmy Beaumont. I did not know that the great Jimmy Beaumont had died! This bad news causes me great sadness. Another great voice that is going to sing to God! It can’t be, the very big ones go. Rest in peace Jimmy. A thousand thanks for your voice and for "Since I Don’t Have You", this song so nostalgic and so special for me. Now it will be even more. Good trip, Master Jimmy Beaumont. Forever Jimmy and his Skyliners, who already cross the sky for eternity.
Wow just hearing the bad news , Jimmy Beaumint passed away this past Saturday 10/7/17 four days ago.Very very sad time , RIP Mr Blue Eyed Soul ...from Baltimore with love !
I was at that show and they were outstanding but, that goes without saying. What memories and Donna could knock you out with her ending of this classic. Dr. Doo Wop
I had the pleasure of seeing The Skyliners on February 10, 2013 at the Tanglewood club house in Sebring, Florida. At the conclusion of the show I shook Jimmy's hand and said to him that I thought Since I Don't Have You was the greatest Doo Wop song of all.
Came back to take a last look. When Jimmy hit that high note, it reminded me of when I heard Roy Orbison live hitting that high note off of "Running Scared". Same thinig. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting names on the faces. I was lucky to hear the original when it was released in New York. Heaven was opening the doors to Doo Wop, R&B...
Was stationed at Ft Meade in 1971. Battalion HQ. Sergeant Major came up to me and told me that Captain Taylor needed to see me. I was a lowly private at the time. Didn’t know who he was at all. Don’t remember what Captain Taylor wanted but as I stood in front of his desk I looked up at the wall behind him and there was hanging a gold record. He noticed me looking and explained who he was. “Jackie Taylor “. Very cool guy
Donna Groom was the perfect fit to replace the incomparable voice of Janet Vogel. I would say they still got it but they never lost it in the first place. Sad to have lost Janet, was a she rare vocalist.
Thanks Alec . I have seen that clip & this one though great it;s not as good as their performance at the Doo Wop specials on PBS with that fantastic band behind them & Donna's husband Mark on drums. Those clips are so clean & you can really hear donna hit those awesome high notes . These guys & Jimmy havent lost a thing over the years. There is a really nice clip of Mark & Donna doing the song At Last where Donna plays all the keyboard parts of which there are three including the Bass parts that she does with her foot pedals. All those parts & the awesome vocals all at the same time ,man that woman is amazing. Again thanks for share.
Paul Levine: I agree on the PBS Doo Wop special.....amazing! Suggest you google Donna Groom for more of her talent. She also has a channel here on youtube. The lady nails every style she attempts.
You need not tell me twice ,I have watched most everything that's posted, plus whatever they did with Janet Vogel. What great talents the Skyliners & these great bands had, The one's that still play really havent lost a thing. Thanks Alec. I've been playing guitar since the 70s so i know music pretty well.
Boo-hoo me! Every time I hear this song, I think it was meant for Marie and me. She went off with another, it's a common tale but true.. . then I met Sue and it's boo-hoo me, two. Haw ,haw.
AWESOME!!!! wow I used to love this group ?? I'm 78 years old . ..I used to imitate the lead singer tremendous harmony and Donna was such a great singer ..it bring tears of emotion ,memories, of my teen age years when my friends an my brother we used to sing in the subway station in New york city to obtain an echo and sing these beautiful oldies but goodies song and since I don't have you was one of our favorite group at that time...
met Donna Groom with Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners in Ocala Florida 2014, so kind, so gracious, got a picture with her! thank you Donna!!

The female falsetto in this song done firstly by Janet Vogel and later by Donna Groom is an iconic moment in rock history

Such a beautiful song and so many wonderful memories of a time that I still miss many decades later 😢

Jimmy had one of the greatest voices and of course this song is an out and out classic.
This is what Oldies is all about. One of the very best songs of the Fifties. Awesome...a Pittsburgh group with a sound that has touched my generation from age 14-75. Love to Jimmy's family. God bless.

EARTH ANGEL😇. ARE you going to be back this way any time soon????👍😍🤔❤️😘
Thirteen "you, you, you and 10 more at the end.
Roy Orbison must have been inspired by this range and vibrato. (A younger Jimmy Beaumont's voice).
Could Donna have looked any Hotter or sound any better ? Nope. She was awesome.👍
A better sound system would have been great.
When music was great not like this rap shit of today
Boo-hoo me! Every time I hear this song, I think it was meant for Marie and me. She went off with another, it's a common tale but true.. . then I met Sue and it's boo-hoo me, two. Haw ,haw.
