  • Beechcraft Premier I. The fastest single pilot light jet.
    Premier jet was developed to be the next level of single pilot jets. It can cruise at speeds up to .8 Mach, which is 460 knots at altitude (530 mph or 850 km/h). Fastest in its class! It has a real stand up cabin, highest in its class, while being single pilot. During the development the project changed hands several times. Raytheon, Hawker and Beechcraft all owned the project at different times. The plane is powered by two Williams FJ-44-2A engines.
    In the video we will try it out discussing pluses and minuses of ownership of such a jet.
    I will help you chose the right airplane for your mission, train you or your crew and get your operation going.
    LIFE IS SHORT. FLY A JET.

    I am also PIC type rated on it. Great video and indeed unique in this kind. From Minute 25:00 it is very well explained why this aircraft is so great, but also why it requires accurate procedures and flying skills. Importantly, you well explain the technical reasons for what the aircraft does (e.g. stall check, left side, right side and both sides check). Very well done!

    Thank you for the honest and excellent review of the pros and cons. One question I have is the MX history of these now legacy jets. I am sure parts are very expensive. Are they typically available to the point where owners don't have significant AOG episodes. The idiosyncrasies of the jet can be managed if the plane can be kept airworthy. What is the still air range with full fuel? This video was really worth watching.

    • @MaxJetRev
      @MaxJetRev  9 місяців тому

      The range is 1300 nm with adequate reserve. Unfortunately, the way the Premier was designed makes maintenance labor - intensive and complicated. Simple tasks require more labor hours then similar tasks on other jets in class. Some parts are hard to come by, but mostly parts are available. What I would pay very close attention is where you do maintenance. I.e. factory service center is not the place to go if you'd like to keep the cost under control. You need a mechanic who's very patient and preferable has experience with type. Also a "small guy" will have better access to a lot of hard to reach areas in Premier.

      I mostly find used (serviceable / as removed / overhauled) parts for Premier to keep the cost under control. I hadn't had any issues with parts supply used or new. Collins PL21 sucks! Max great review of the P1. It's a bit odd but seems to be a performer 'for its class'.
    Whatever that means. What jets do you include in it's class?
    I don't think there are many with CF fuselage bolted to aluminum wings with 4600 lbf thrust.
    Maybe none. But has a resemblance to a mini version of a Citation X.

    • @MaxJetRev
      @MaxJetRev  Рік тому

    • @robertrpenny
      @robertrpenny Рік тому +1

      I meant the P1 has a slight resemblance to CX but realize the CX is way up the spectrum of aircraft in all respects.
      But im wondering if some of Burt Ruttan's design concepts have got into the P1 and made it fast for class. Wasnt he linked to Raytheon ?
      How about the Phenom 100, is that in the class and how does it compare?
      Im not a pilot, just an aviation observer with background in science and eng, but not in aeronautics.
      Have aviators in the family, bro has a C172, uncle flew over germany in Lancasters in WW2, cousin was a CFI but killed himself trying to be a stunt pilot, and had a bad trip to airshow one time with under trained pilot in IMC conditions. Realize i could have been a statistic. So am careful about what and who i fly with now.

    • @robertrpenny
      @robertrpenny Рік тому +1

      @@MaxJetRev Yes i looked at some specs and Phenom 100 is slower by about 50 kts so prob has the smaller PWC engines like Mustang.
      But looked at a spec sheet with P1A, CJ2 and CJ2+ which is a good comparison since all have MTOW of about 12500 lbs.
      So this shows that P1 must have a lower surface area, lift and drag wing which results in higher cruise speed than CJ's.
      CJ wing prob. has more surface area. lift and drag but results in higher ceiling and shorter takeoff roll by about 20%. Also shorter landing roll.
      So Beech designed for less drag and more speed. Cessna designed for more lift and ceiling, shorter takeoff and landing.
      P1 may be sportier for good pilots, CJ's prob easier to fly for less experienced pilots.

    Nothing in the world is close to the premier in performance, cabin size, fuel burn and speed in this acquisition price range. Its downfall is range. Regardless, it is a fabulous airplane that is by far best in class for missions of less than 1000 miles.

    Premier is designed for people who know how to reduce their baggage.
    Switches take .05 seconds to throw, so the amount of those is not a concern.
    Manual setups keep you proficient. I don't rely on my plane to do all the math without checking it.
    It's very telling how you consider some extra safety tests 'ridiculous'. One word that really shouldn't be in aviation is 'shortcuts'.
    The description box tells a different story than the video. Seems like another person who is actually impressed by the plane wrote the description.
    Your 'review' is very biased because you are comparing everything to the jet you assume is perfect.

    • @MaxJetRev
      @MaxJetRev  Рік тому

      The tests in Premier have nothing to do with safety. They are there, because of poor design and bureaucracy. Humans miss things, the easier the plane to fly the safer it is. Extra systems and extra switches are extra points of failure.
