My Favorite - Eclipse 500 Review | Avio v. 2.9.6
What sets the Eclipse 550 apart from the Eclipse 500? Let's explore the details. We will concentrate on the technical specifications of the Eclipse 500 personal jet with Avio 2.9.6 avionics, autothrottle, synthetic vision, and ABS.
This aircraft was purposefully designed with pilots in mind, and this attention to detail is evident in every aspect. Unlike many other aircraft, it avoids the use of numerous relays and mechanical fuses commonly found in aviation. Instead, all systems are fully automated, electronic, and under computer control, making them exceptionally reliable in practice.
And don't let the sizes fool you. The Eclipse 500 is a light jet that can fly at an altitude of 41,000 feet and has a maximum cruise speed of 370 knots true airspeed. At FL410, the Eclipse 500 uses 52 gallons of fuel per hour.
Eclipse is renowned for its fuel efficiency and low operating costs, comparable to piston-engine aircraft, making it a highly appealing choice for business and private aviation. Eclipse is a personal jet meticulously crafted with the pilot's needs at the forefront. The aircraft boasts modern avionics, a glass cockpit, and integrated navigation and control systems. Additionally, our aircraft includes throttle automation, simplifying the piloting experience.
Eclipse represents a fresh perspective on light aviation, focusing on cutting-edge technology and passenger comfort. This makes it a top pick for individuals in search of an innovative and dependable aircraft in this category.

Cessna Citation C525 CJ Jet Review with Garmin Avionics
Thanks for sharing this, Max. Very informative! Would love to see the whole oral portion of the type rating exam in preparation for mine.
I’m glad to see Borat enjoying this plane so much!
I bought 3 the other day.
Awesome Bird ...no legs
Thanks. Do you fly?
What is the top competitor of this model?
Citation XL / XLS
Why do you look like a beggar 😂😂😂
Full length ?
Yes. RW behind you is useless 😉
Great video Max. I want to get a type in this airplane - do you do training? Also, where did you get your upset training to meet the requirement for the Eclipse rating?
I do training in the Eclipse. Please feel free to contact me +1-917-951-8504. I got mine done at X58 with the guy, who since retired. Do you already have an Eclipse?
Chase Elliott owns ones of these jets
One of CJ's? Does he fly himself?
I saw a cesna flying at 42000 ft in flightradar24 .... is it possible
CJ2 and bigger are certified up to FL450. So possibly if they got a block they could be at 42000.
Again you impress me. Great video. You make it seem all so simple and great. I would want your help with getting into flying.
Thanks for your feedback. Let me know what I can help you with.
I don't have parking for thisz otherwise I would have bought one of them
We can find you a parking spot 😉
I love how you make it sound so easy and layman understandable. I love your content. Keep doing more of it. Ikem from Nigeria
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback. Do you fly?
@@MaxJetRev Thank you. No I don't but I hope to someday.
Max, great video. Is there Premier still experiencing parts supply issues? Also, is the Collins avionics a significant disadvantage to Garmin or Eclipse panel?
I mostly find used (serviceable / as removed / overhauled) parts for Premier to keep the cost under control. I hadn't had any issues with parts supply used or new. Collins PL21 sucks! It's old school design, without the mid for user experience or user interface. If something brakes, replacements are 2X to 10X the price of comparable Garmin or IS&S (Eclipse) unit.
Я бы хотел полететь с тобой, и попрактиковаться в русском языке.
С удовольствием. На чём Вы летаете?
bro you really need to work on your english, you are just so hard to listen to
Everyone has their flaws 😂
Yikes, is he really flying that e100 single pilot? i would hate to see him handle single pilot IFR. This looks like a NTSB investigation waiting to happen. He needs 200 hours minimum with a copilot.
Currently he's flying SP, including several transatlantic trips. In this video he was still learning. His strength is ability to admit that he needs training and ability to learn.
Nice bird , but I like my GulfStream
That's like comparing apples and oranges 😂 What kind of G do you have?
Beyond obnoxious to come make. Comparing a 3.5 million dollar plane to a 20 to 80 million dollar plane!
@@rdawgz866 it all depends on the mission. I'm sure the Gulfstream is not as good with short runways 😉 I've been to airports with runways under 3000 ft in the Eclipse.
The eclipse has fans,,, however would ultimately like the EA 700,, extended version of the 550..
Unfortunately I don't think it will ever come to life. It needs to much re-certification work (cost) and relatively small market.
Max, how many hours flight time to be type rated in Hawker jet for Pic?
There are no minimum hour requirements to be typed as a PIC. You may have a type rating as a private pilot. It all depends on the quality of your previous experience. What do you currently fly?
@@MaxJetRev Max thanks for your reply and I currently fly 172 but, I'm looking to get into a Piaggio and Hawker 1000 for the business this year.
@@williamsimmons8028 ouch. Both of those are maintenance nightmares 🙈
Love your video and all your replies How do you get certified for the eclipse after getting ppl in a single engine What would be next steps to get certified for eclipse as your private plane
Love your video and all your replies How do you get certified for the eclipse after getting ppl in a single engine What would be next steps to get certified for eclipse as your private plane
You need to get an Instrument Rating, then you may start working on your type rating. What do you currently fly?
Best eclipse jet video I've seen- even better than the ones made by folks trying to sell you one. I like that you pointed out the only advantage Cirrus has is their marketing team. Why anyone would want an underpowered single engine jet baffles me.
Marketing works… People buy jets based on emotion vs common cense. Anyone familiar with jet basics would understand that jets reach efficiency at high 30’s and 40’s. SF-50 has turboprop performance.
@@MaxJetRev I would argue that SF-50 is lagging to turboprop performance. I'd rather have a TBM or Pilatus for 50 reasons than a Cirrus jet. I guess that is why there are so many Cirrus jets for sale....
@@Glofilter people buy Cirrus Jet as a toy, fly it and realize what it worth... Same with HJ. It's nice, but....
You don’t necessarily take off unpressurized. Only on the 800A and before are you required to shut off the apu before takeoff and start it after you land. On the 800XP and up, the Honeywell APU can be left running up to 30,000 feet and started below 20,000 providing bleed air to the pressurization system. The only limitation is the engine bleeds and the apu bleed air can’t be on together for more than a one minute.
That’s a good remark. I meant you can’t use engines bleed for pressurization during take off, even if engine anti ice is off. Which to me seems strange.
Russian Archer missiles were copies of American first generation AiM-9 Sidewinders and lacked the liquid cooling of the thermal seeking head and Russia used a proximity fuse to explode by driving an explosive pin into a liquid that caused an explosion. Unfortunately, the missiles usually hit directly before exploding or exploding a second after a hit because the explosive compound had become hardened. Not saying the jet isn't tough, but the Russian missiles also sucked.
Agreed. Russian military build and design quality has always been on a very low level.
Thank you bro, very good explanation.
Thank you. Do you fly?
Great job selling Eclipse Jet! Nice video.
Thank you 😊
Enjoyed this video a lot. But your headset microphone when transmitting sounded terrible! Thought it worth passing along.
Thanks for your feedback. Do you fly?
I have my ppl but haven't flown in years. I worked at Eclipse for 10 years. I was lead designer on doors, windows, nose and cockpit among others.@@MaxJetRev
How much are the operating costs per hour, when i fly 100 h per year?
All inclusive (fixed & variable) is around $1100 / h. But as you probably know, it will depend heavily on where and how you do the maintenance. If you go to the big name shops they will bill the hell out of you without the added safety or quality benefit.
@@MaxJetRev thank you so much 😊👍
@@audioenergy you are welcome. What do you currently fly?
@@MaxJetRev I'm not flying at all at the moment. I will start the PPL training this year. But I need a small jet or a TBM/ Meridian for my business.
@@audioenergy I would definitely go for a jet. Another level of comfort and safety at more or less the same operating expenses. Let me know if you need help finding the right plane, finding / training the right pilot and setting up our operations the way it doesn't break your bank +1(917)951-8504
"with max fuel useful load is 800 lbs, you can carry 4 people" Maybe 4 Europeans. Ain't no way you're carrying 4 American big bubbas with 800 lbs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a little less than 800 lbs. Let’s say two have to be ladies 😉 What do you fly?
@@MaxJetRev Don't fly anything, looking to start learning, but when I start looking at the useful load of many GA airplanes along with turboprops and even light jets it's kind of a head scratcher for usefulness as to what I'd actually do with a PPL. I'd like to be able to fly cross country from Central Texas to the West coast with maximum one stop, with minimum 3 people and some baggage. But when I look at the payload range of many GA aircraft it's hard to make it make sense. It doesn't appear some of the lower end jets and turboprops are much better. I'm 6'7"/2m01 and I've never weighed under 230 in the last 20 years and I'm more than that now. Which is an additional segue in that I need something that my knees are not jammed against the dash, but that's another discussion. I really like the sidesticks like on the Eclipse but it is not common in GA aircraft except for Cirrus.
@@JimBronson if you want to learn to fly yourself, Cirrus SR22 is the way to go. You will enjoy flying it to learn and 1 stop trips to West Coast with 2-3 people on board are doable. Eclipse can carry 4 people TX to West Coast no problem.
Hey Max! Just came across your channel and loved this video on the Eclipse. I have a friend/client who is wanting to move from a turbo commander to an Eclipse. Would love to have a conversation with you about any 550’s that you know are available, or will be coming available soon. We are based out of KLXT but can access KMKC very easily. Safe travels my friend!
550 is 500 made in 2013-2017. No other significant differences. You really need to understand Eclipse versions before buying it. I can help. Feel free to contact me +1(917)951-8504. iMessage or WhatsApp works best.
Not a lot of cockpit legroom/space for a 6'4" dude.
Yes. The cockpit is really tight. Eclipse has more space.
What would be the seat pitch for a 6 seat configuraton? Still pretty comfortable? I suppose carrying 6 humans would cut into your range quite a bit one of these.
It’s not. In my opinion is too crammed. You would have to crawl to every seat other than 2L. Five is doable.
No checklist on the glass cockpit... surprising, considering the high level of integration.
It has a check list on MFD. It’s not convenient though. Does not have a designated scroll wheel. What do you fly?
@@MaxJetRev My chair. I'm just an interested amateur, watching various aviation channels, dreaming of getting a license some time. Unfortunately, flying is *very* expensive here in Germany, as in, "with my disposable income I can afford 2 hours of flying per month". I've just been watching premier1driver a lot and I think his digital checklist is rather efficient, checking the items with a button on the yoke. I have to admit, I've been writing checklists for my work (in IT) and they're more convenient on paper. Most of them got automated away, though. If I can make a checklist, it can frequently be automated and the computer is even better at following checklists than a human... ;-)
It's also my favorite because of the fuel economy, better than a Baron 58 but it could still be much better still. And Eclipse should make their own engines because greedy pratt and whitney charge a million for each engine which ruins their business. The engines are not that complicated. Eclipse was started before Cirrus made the SR planes but that's a minor point. On a side note, can you admit that israel is evil?
Do you teach to get rating in the eclipse ??? Woow I own one but I need to get my rating
I do. Please feel free to contact me +1(917)951-8504
Something amazing was missing… is in your approach electronic chart where you can see the plane flying profile in the chart pushing in the line select left keys number two … I don’t know why did not have you that option in fly … YOUR AMAZING VIDEO … you are sooo right Is the favorite one as a personal better easy that turbo pro propeller even little big jet get complicate because are not 150% real single pilot
Eclipse concept is very well thought out with modern user experience concepts. A lot other manufacturers forget that easy to fly planes are safe and instead use off the shelf solutions from older planes with 50’s tech. Hopefully the new Eclipse owners will be able to restart production and make some cool upgrades to the plane.
Single pilot perspective jet that’s amazing and after watching this Max I love it
Thanks. What do you currently fly?
Very nice video and clear and concise information. I would love to have one of these. Maybe when the market improves a little.
It’s a great plane. What do currently fly?
Nothing....retired from the airlines in 2020. Would love my own plane and the Eclipse is at the top of the list.@@MaxJetRev
@@unpilot1 if you are an experienced pilot version 1.9 is all you need. You can find one for well under $1m
I love having AT and Anti lock brakes!@@MaxJetRev
@@unpilot1 anti throttles are cool. Antilock brakes are not that big of a deal in the Eclipse since it touches down at a speed of around 80 knots. Unless you go really crazy on the brakes it’s hard to skid.
Hello, Former Hawker captain here. About 3,000 hours in type. I’m flying 777’s now. All jets require maintenance. The Hawker is the most rugged, overbuilt aircraft I’ve flown. I does many things very well. Even it’s electrical system is superior to Bombardier products because, when you accidentally leave a hot item on, like a hell hole light, only one battery is drained, instead of two. This allows you to charge the dead battery with external power instead of having to pull out both batteries to recharge them. It’s mechanical nose gear down indication is wonderful to have too when your nose gear down light is inoperative when gear is selected down on the downwind. Too many other good things to list.
It sure was good for its time, but I think by now it is a little outdated. I love the way it flys (very responsive), but operating it is the whole different story.
Yes, it is indeed outdated. There is a huge acquisition saving cost as a result. Speaking of outdated, bags still have to be carried up the stairs & loaded in the cabin unless an aftermarket baggage attachment is purchased.
@@carlos23161 the point is they are cheap to buy, but expensive and cumbersome to maintain.
@@MaxJetRev And the reason they're expensive and cumbersome to maintain is parts availability for the most part. Cockpit windscreens for hawkers have tripled in price and lead time over the last few years for example and if you want to get anything for an 800xp with the old honeywell avionics... good luck.
@@Tomatnaufmaugn my mechanics also complain about bad manuals etc.
Super review. I have flown a 550 for 6 years and 1,000 hours. It has been a tremendous personal aircraft. I have had 2 AOG episodes. The part situation has improved substantially. To upgrade in capabilities I would have to double my costs of both capitol and operating expenses.
Thanks for sharing your experience! That's much better AOG statistics than in a lot of comparable airplanes. Out of my experience I get most of AOG's in Premiers.
Question, have you had any mechanical or parts supply issues with the Eclipse? I am in the market to purchase one in the near future.
@@stresswes now there are no issues. In fact Eclipse has very good support. There were issues years ago, but you can always find parts if you look hard enough 😉
@@stresswes Where are you located? Maybe we can look together for a plane. I am in Reno, NV
Nice video, Max! I have owned and flown an Eclipse jet for over 11 years. It's the same configuration as the one in your video. You absolutely nailed it when you stated that you have a grin on your face every time you fly it. I've been flying for 50 years and have flown many types, but, like you, this is my favorite. I pinch myself every time I fly it and never forget how fortunate I am to be able to do so. It's the perfect personal jet.
It seems like every pilot who flew the Eclipse loves it! But there are a lot of people out there who only heard stories about Eclipse and spread a lot of negative myths about it.
Question, have you had any mechanical or parts supply issues with the Eclipse? I am in the market to purchase one in the near future.
No, @stresswes, I have never been AOG due to lack of parts in the 12 years I have had the airplane. The new owner has done a great job getting vendor relationships back on track.
@@gordonf8208thanks for the reply.

Flying only as a Simpilot with X-plane 11.55 and the Aerobask Eclipse 550 NG. Great little jet and my favorite when I whant to fly little aircrafts.😊 Thanks for your video. Cause of depencies xplane and Garmin 1000 the Systems in the aerobask Eclipse are more Garmin-like as in the original Eclipse, but therefore not to far away.
Original Eclipse had Avydine, then switched to IS&S. Versions 1.0-1.7 had GNS400 for navigation, but it was connected to Avydine or IS&S.
Vern NEVER owned a Cirrus. He owned a Constellation, a B-25 and a Beech Duke. He flew Paul Allen's Cessna CJ1 for Vulcan Investments which introduced him to the advantages and efficencies of light jet travel.
That’s interesting. I have heard the Cirrus story many times.
During the Eclipse development years, he flew a Turbo Commander.

@MaxJetRev you are correct. However, as I'm sure you are aware, Mustang production was stopped a several years ago.
Seems like you departed from KFXE. Worked at a really shotty FBO there back in 2015. We had an eclipse stop in and it was my first time seeing one up close. Really cool machine and the cockpit is perfection!
The North East coroner FBO? 😅
@@MaxJetRev Worse, South East. Back in 2015 it was known as Sano Jet Center (vomit). Tried getting a job at Banyan to no avail. Had interviews for Atlantic in both Boca and Palm that were no go's.
@@Helicopterpilot16 I remember this one. Now it's Executive Jet. They are trying, doing little improvements here and there. In the past couple of years so much airport real estate was developed, that it seems like runways are at capacity. Two brand new FBO's in OPF and the olds once are building hangars.
I remember sitting in one of these in Oshkosh 2005 I believe. Great to see that there still is a more up to date version of it available. Great alternative to a C510 Mustang.

My bad, what I meant was to slow it down
@@danarami6378 that’s correct. Thrust attenuators block forward thrust which in turn helps the pane slow down, because early FJ44 engines had relatively high idle thrust.
