As a third generation custom home builder with over 30 years of experience and for the last 5 years manufacturing wall panels and Modular building structures... I am truly surprised at how poorly these things are built. The lumber they use looks like we would scrap. If these guys are the best, I truly do not want to see the worst. The quality of the industry in general is so poor that my next RV will be cargo trailer conversion. I can't see myself ever buying one of these units. EDIT: I couldn't even finish watching this video. The construction is awful, they can't even get simple things right. Jayco motto: more staples = more better.
As a full time traveler I believe that everyone of these manufacturers build cheap, cut corners,use less than quality products and let's not forget the poor quality paint used on the frames. For what these cost they should stack up to the price.
Absolutely agree ! I don't know about Jayco, but I heard that thin guage metals are used for the chassis and a lot of them are prone to rust ! The prices are absolutely outrageous !
Totally agree 26,000 bucks for a Jayco card board box that only took 1 day to ho from a dream to a nightmare now its 4 years old and worth maybe 2000 I have 40 years experience building houses and steel buildings it's falling apart faster than I can fix it I feel like a fool for wasting my hard earned savings on there is no way to describe with words how could anybody with a conscious at the end of the day feel good about what they do they get away with it I guess because there are plenty of people like me that are honest with pride and honor it what they do and want to belive that thst the guy looking you in the eye while shaking your hand is the same way ment to say I agree and all this just pored out
I found it interesting when you made the point of not using staples in the construction of the cabinet frames to make them sturdier. Yet in every scene in the video showing bare frames, they are all stapled. It was also interesting to see the extremely poor quality wood used in the frames, and especially in the roof trusses you seem to be very excited about. Those 2x3s they are using to build those trusses have no strength when oriented on the flat side, like the trusses shown in this video. And the excessive amount of checking & cracking will only serve to weaken an already poorly designed structure. One other item of note in this video, none of the wood used throughout the units seems to have any attempt at sealing it to prevent rot. Water infiltration is inevitable in any RV. But it does not seem like Jayco really makes much, if any effort to waterproof anything. I'm not saying that any of the other manufacturers do any better, in fact I've visited at least one factory that I'm embarrassed to ever admit I was there after seeing just how bad the material & workmanship is. But I'm certainly not seeing anything in this video that would lead me to believe that Jayco is doing a better job than any of the other, reputable manufacturers. On a side note, a former employer of mine purchased a new & very, very expensive Jayco 5th wheel. In the two years since he purchased the trailer, it has spent more time at the dealership getting repair work than it has in his possession. His biggest problem, slide-outs that constantly malfunction. Not just occasionally, virtually every second or third time using one. Considering he paid more for that trailer than most people will ever pay for a house, I've never seen such deplorable build quality on the inside. There are many instances of misaligned furniture & trim. Cabinet doors that don't close properly, drawers that are so stiff you can barely move them. The shower pan is raised up from the floor one side, and Jayco's solution was to just increase the bead of caulk from one side to the other (the bead is approximately 1/16" on one side to almost 1/2" on the other). Unfortunately, poorly built RVs are the norm, and not the exception. It's just the nature of the industry.
Our unit, a 2021 26RK, the kitchen cabinets have been assembled with a combination of methods. The biggest issue is the low quality MDF they used in the construction. In our sticks and bricks house, we had a flood in the master bath a few years ago where the builders grade, vinyl wrapped vanity cabinet was soaked in water, the drawers completely flooded. This remained for hours in water. We got it dried out and it showed NO signs of damage. No swelling, no peeling of the vinyl, NO damage. Once again, that was in our sticks and bricks. In our White Hawk 26RK kitchen, a small leak from the sink p-trap and a small leak from a cracked water pump sediment filter caused significant swelling damage and the vinyl to peel off large sections of the kitchen cabinets. This was with MINIMAL water exposure. Now I get to rebuild the kitchen cabinets. Honestly, this is just the latest in the long list of issues we have had with this rig. Not sure any of the others are built any better but I damn well know that Jayco hasn't provided us with much fun over the first year and a half of ownership.
I was going to comment on this, this guy on this video is talking all nonsense making jayco look like there are the best and yet using staples on the where the pocket screw is more efficient. Staples barely holding on the wall structure. The stud the don't even make 45 cuts or any angle cuts to fit perfectly into the the wall. Plus all wire ran like if a kid pull them wire they start using at least some cable tray to keep those cable nice and neat.
I bought a new 2018 Jayco Hummingbird and loved it. However, it leaked water from day one. Fortunately, I my dealer was within 5 miles of my home because I took it back multiple times to get the leak corrected. They would apply some ProFlex here and there, run a yard sprinkler on it for 30 minutes and call it done. I actually found one defect that was causing a water issue. They cut the lower refrigerator vent flush with the floor instead of an inch lower like I found other campers to be and was told was proper. That creates a lip to stop water but mine, being flush to the floor allowed water to enter under the refrigerator. I corrected that issue but that wasn’t the main leak. Eventually, I had mildew on the seat cushion bottoms. I continued to return my unit to my dealer until, 3 months prior to my 2 year warranty expiring, Jayco notified my dealer that they would no longer pay any warranty work on my unit. I was stuck! I couldn’t sell it due to the mildew issue and evident water stains in the cabin, so I traded it to another camper dealer at a loss just to get rid of my problem. Now, for 2 1/2 years, I have an amazingly well built camper that has never leaked! Never again, Jayco! Never again!
It's really great they are made so strong and so can give a 10yr full guarantee. No rusty screws , no loose tanks, not rotten floor boards, no doors falling off
I own a 264BH that I bought January 11th this year. The wall in the bathroom is bad out of square to the point that the door doesn't fit the frame right. It's so obvious that even the owner at the dealership commented on it and said fix it now. They made an appointment for February 27th to bring it in. Why do I now own a travel trailer that I can't use or even put my gear into for 6 weeks or longer? I feel like it should have been a top priority or even returned to the factory for repairs. My first impression with Jayco is not good at all!
@@jason27swg In my area they do roofing, barn building and demolish. You never see them in home remodeling or new home construction. Not intended to put the Amish down....they're great people.

Interesting video. We just bought a 2024 Jayco Jay Flight 235MBHW in February. Our first RV was a Keystone Hideout and we learned so much about preventive maintenance and addressing the small things to keep our RV ready for camping and road worthy. The first thing I did with our Jayco upon purchase was complete a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior of the RV. I found two screw heads stripped off, several screws stripped, the top exterior slide out seal pulled off the exterior wall (by the way it is stapled on), the top interior slide out seal pulled away from the wall, the top interior wall panel was cut out leaving a huge gap between the wall panel and top of the slide out, a piece of trim missing on the slide, the furnace not screwed/bolted to the floor, furnace fan blade cracked, the slidebox not evenly centered for the exterior seals to make a proper seal along the sides of the slide out, and the rear stabilizing jack screws mounted directly into the sewage hose storage bumper which protruded up into the storage bumper and would not allow the hose to be stored, (I figured this out when I tried to store the hose, it jammed and when I pulled to try to remove it, it ripped the end connector off the hose). And...our RV Go Power Solar Charge controller was wired incorrectly. Since the end of March, our RV has been sitting at the dealership awaiting for parts from Jayco (today is May 10). By the way we were informed a few weeks ago that the parts were shipped to Minnesota and had to be rerouted to our location. This RV was not an impulsive buy, but one that we believed was the right fit for our family. We were shopping for an RV for 5-6 months and found this one and really liked what we saw. We looked at reviews, the Jayco website and compared this RV to other competitors. We decided on this one for many reasons. We made a 370 mile round trip to pick this one up and return to our home. We are disappointed that our RV left the Jayco plant in this condition. I'm glad we have a 2+3 from Jayco understanding that issues do arise, but we believe these discrepancies should have been identified and repaired prior to shipment to dealer. After all repairs are completed, our hope is we will enjoy our Jayco and it will serve many great family memories throughout the years as our children grow.
When I saw all the staples holding the lvl beam on the upper portion of the frame...actually everything seems to be held together with those staples....I was shocked. There were framing nail plates used as well. Did they run out of screws in Indiana? For a house that is going to vibrate and shake...I guess they're all building absolence into trailers too.
I’m glad i ggot a pre-pandemic build grand design 2020. Prayers are with anyone with a newer cobbled together rv with supply chain parts from whereever and mismatched.
I have a COVID built 2022 Jayco Greyhawk 30Z and I keep fighting all their lack of quality issues. Water heater tank installed on top of rubber gas line. Over time it collapsed causing low gas flow. Jayco said it was my fault for the lack of maintenance. The bedroom slide is not chaulked properly and leaks water into the camper. Outside trim pieces are coming loose. The water hose connection to the back of the toilet was loose and leaking water.
Absolutely love the behind the scenes look at the build process, workmanship, & material makeup that goes into these RVs. I'm on my 3rd Jayco (currently own a NP 310rlts) and have been extremely satisfied with each one. I've never considered another make/manufacturer. I've seen several like videos from Josh Winters at Bish's RV. You two are the absolute best at presenting factory & RV tours. FANTASTIC job!

We RV technicians who's been in the RV industry for 30 years + have to rebuild most of the Manufacturers screw ups we rebuild slid outs roofs floors and ceilings even bent frames around the holding tanks
Looking at the framework of the interior walls,,, The Staples from one 2x2 to another are not even centered, they're off!?? What the heck? If workers are too much in a hurry to get these built we're stuck with crappy Rv's! And now that I'm looking at the framework even further, everything is stapled?! What happened to good reliable screws?
I watched a previous video on the build of jaycos and they pride themselves in how fast they build a unit in less then 6 hours,the entire RV industry needs a complete investigation especially through the covid era.
Interesting, they are built a little sturdier than I gave them credit for. Good point that they have to tolerate high winds and lots of vibration and bumps along the road. We just replaced our old popup with a 2023 travel trailer and was surprised that it has the on-demand water heater that was new for this year. Not sure I like it very much. My gripe is that it doesn't make it easy to conserve water when showering. You have to wait for it to light up, heat the water, and get the hot water to the other end of the unit where the shower is. If you then turn off the water to wash up, it shuts off. Then you turn the water on again, you get still-warm water, but then you get a burst of cold water and you're waiting again for it to warm up again.
Good points, Dave. Not sure which brand of water heater you got, but the Furrion 60k that Jayco installs has a 1L mixing reservoir that helps maintain a constant temp. Some units, depending the install, also have a recirculating function whereby the water is instantly hot at the faucet location when turning on.
Wish they would use the system used in Geo Pro's that shows when the water is hot at the shower and diverts the warming water back to the fresh water tank.
Enjoyed the video, and read many of the comments. I enjoyed the fact that you showed the material and construction. As a person that has worked around construction, I also have questions about somethings. However customers dictate how things are built and price range. I do believe there is a need for different price ranges for different quantities.

I noticed that as well. They welded a little piece of metal to the main frame and the A-frame piece - to be honest that has virtually no structural integrity.
Of course not showing up while the staff is working on them. So you don't see them rush the production. Lino not wrapped around the edges, And most unit do use galvanized steel sheets around the wheel well. Bragging that the furniture is not stapled together, but screwed together. But the shower base is stapled together.
I’m not rich! but so far so good! I looked at others and some are worse! So for now I’m happy with my jayco, had it for 4mo and for now very very peaty issues!👍 so I don’t know if spending more would be worth it? 🤔

I am looking at the 29.5 and grand design reflection 278bh. I gave a slight edge to the Jayco because I like the couch position to tv compared to the grand design.
They've been welding those frames like that for years. I use to weld those frames and every frame other companies build on are welded like that. The only frames that weld their tongues on the bottom of the frame are mobile homes cause they have detachable tongues.
We have a Seneca that we will do a video on soon! I can't answer the "why" regarding the lack of ladder. They quit offering ladders around 2017. Personally I like to have a ladder. In the absence of one, I would suggest a portable telescoping ladder to access the roof. Thanks for watching our vids!

@@moefoh96 not really, would recommend checking them out after a good rain though. The roof is the weak point on all rvs. Good luck. ORV trailers are built solid. Little pricey but good. Mostly on west coast.
This is really cool. My wife is not on board with RV or really camping. I am about to just buy one buts its scary as I hear A LOT of maintenance issues, leaks, things failing, etc

Read the negative remarks about the build quality. I bought a new Jay Flight 29 QBH in 2012 and it has been great! I did climb up on the roof and put down 4” strips of Eternabond tape where they had to cut through the roof for the A/C, etc. I have never had a leak or any serious problems. Very pleased with Jayco! 😀
Hi there jayco why and not only you guys but everyone using wood for framing are you not treating the wood ? I've dealt with this Oversight for 40 yrs , every one of my RVs 6 of them have had wood rot from water , so when I repair them I treat the lumber with a preservative and regularly check and maintain the seams , I've never bought a new unit but as a tradesman builder that was the first issue that I addressed , my first year apprentices prep and seal all my wood , just an observation!
I am surprised the factory assembly line is still running considering that every RV dealer lot across the country is completely jammed with these trailers and the sales drop and owners being upside down in their loans.
@@VogtRVWorld Buyers should wait until the prices drop because of oversupply. In my cross country trips over the last few years including passing by the manufacturer's in Indiana and dealer lots.nthe inventory seems tremendous. Also people tend to buy them after retirement and age out.

Yes, they were supposed to have one at the Tampa show however opted against bringing it as they are making a couple more changes to the model and didn't want to roll it out "officially" before it was done. Is there a tag or badge like a vehicle that states the tank capacities of a travel trailer or is it just to be believed what they say it is? I am considering buying a 280 RKS in a couple of years and I'm told that out west I can get a 52 gallon fresh tank, but maybe only 38 gallons here in the east. specifically Joliet, IL near Chicago. Or i might have to special order and wonder how long I'll end up waiting.
Thank you I really enjoyed the factory tour through Jayco. I thought the aluminum constructed campers were the best ones. I have a 2008 carriage cameo fifth wheel and it is constructed with the seamless windows and roof trusses. I bought it because as everyone knows a little water will rot wood relatively quick. Why does jayco go with wood over aluminum studs and trusses? The weight has be be greatly improved with the aluminum.
Great question, Frank. My understanding is that while Starcraft is a subsidiary of Jayco and their original intent was for Starcraft to operate independently, many aspects of construction and floorplans have blurred between the brands. Starcraft is a lower price point unit, but employs many of the same construction techniques. As always, thx for watching our vids.

Great video A whole lot of people talk down about Jayco and the camping industry but they don't know about the inner workings and the hard work that goes in to there R v's they're not just put together cracker Jack boxes like some other brands Between me and my family we own 6 Jayco R v's Everything from the smallest to their largest👍🏻👍🏻

Yeah most people, including some who “claim” to be “building experts”, are really clueless about what’s inside the walls of every structure. Residential, commercial, industrial….everything is ugly under the skin. I’ve seen it all and am still impressed by what I see in this video.
I've owned a couple of new higher-end Jayco trailers that had aluminum framed walls, with wooden roof trusses. I know this is a lower end unit, but i can't believe that everything is still wood, pretty much like they've always been.
Wood frames and aluminum skin may seem old fashioned, but if you have a problem, you can fix it, not panels glue to synthetic materials. The old engineers that came up with the first camper trailers knew what they were doing. You can get materials like wood anywhere. I looked at the campers like the Geo with smooth panels with aluminum frames, and synthetic substrate, was almost going that route, but a local place that sells both styles say the still de laminate. I’d croak if my brand new $30,000 plus damper fell apart, thanks
Just stopped by a Jayco dealer after seeing this video as it gives a sense of a quality build. Stepped inside some 2024 models only to find paneling bowing and popping off some walls, window trim pulling away and just poor interior finish and fit. Exterior quality looks good. Whether the Amish or zippy the chimp are building these they are only as good as the company standards.
I have plans on buying anything like this, but I found the video really interesting. I’ve seen other videos of these RVs and seen how cheaply made they are and it’s always turn me off. But after seeing this, I think if I ever were going to buy one and definitely buy a Jayco. Thanks for doing the video things like this mean a lot to people who are looking at spending a lot of money on the products such as this. You look like great trailers that are very well-made. Are these tours open to the public? Are these tours opened up to potential buyers?

Aluminum frames are not as strong as stick built trailers.....if quality lumber is used. Some of the wood I saw being used looks like it was reclaimed from a Home Depot dumpster. The aluminum frames are only as good as the welds......most of the welds I've seen look like tack welds instead of nice flows.
Amazing Jayco totes their quality lol, but Jayco can't put a wax ring with a horn or a rubber ring with a horn under the toilet. Instead, they just put a rubber ring under the toilet with no horn knowing all too well the vibration from the road will allow the toilet to move just enough to allow water to seep under the linoleum flooring rotting out the strand board. Of course, if they were to use plywood and paint it before installing it making it even more resistant to water, instead of the OSB strand board I might not have to replace the floor I'm in the middle of doing.
Gosh…. I must be the only one that saw the roof truss that was split right where the plate was pushed on….. and the one behind it was split…. Quality control???
I am no engineer by any means, but I have seen a lot of things I could do different for quality purposes and rigidness, if this is better quality than most other manufacturers, I would hate to tour other brands that are built cheaper.
Can you tell me what the differences in construction are between these new Jayco's and my 2003 Jayco Quest 24' 5th wheel? I noticed a few things in the video that I would like to point out. One being the quality (or lack there of) of the wood framing material. I know people like to scrimp and save money, but if you are one of the better builders, why would you use scrap grade lumber? So, as a customer I am going to pay for that? I sincerely hope that you share these comments with Jayco - or they go online and read them. With any hope they will take some of this constructive criticism to heart and further improve their product.
Alot of bad comments on Jayco's. My 2021 , purchased in 2020(non covid purchase) has been flawless so far. 7500+/- miles. Want to go 5th wheel but kinda scared of the covid quality of all of them.
Thank you Tom. Interesting about negative vs. positive comments for *any* brand. When my wife and I were shopping RV's a few years ago, I was surprise to find many negative comments on some brands that are universally accepted as the best brands for reliability and brand quality. I realized that if folks have an issue, they are quick to point it out and tell the world. On the other hand, few people well tend to say "hey my unit has been awesome. No issues!". It's human nature, I suppose. In any case, thanks for your comments!
Unfortunately the design of these units are setup to fail from the start. If you drive into a dealer lot where the unit was delivered during the winter there is surface rust all over the place. The roof trusses are wood and most of these units leak from the openings cut out for vents and air conditioners. Owners have no idea how quickly these seals start to crack and leak. These units should be built without one stick of wood in them. Totally aluminum from top to bottom. That way when the unit leaks the skeleton of the trailer allows to rebuilt the walls and ceiling easily. Unless your checking all the seals on this units every couple of weeks they will leak. Talking from experience as I have rebuilt about a half dozen water damage trailers. Not to mention paying $30000 to $150000 for a trailer and then financing it over 20 years is border line nuts.
The biggest problem with RV's is that they try to give you so much for so little, that they end up building cheaply built RV's. Better to build smaller quality products than larger inferior products.
1:30 pm on july 3, 2024. The furniture is chinese vinyl covering. It is literally falling apart. We bought a 2015 jay flight. Wish I could send you a picture. We are going to rip the cushions out down to the frame and see how we can put loose cushions on it. It is a dangerous chinese vinyl. 32:10
I'll echo that as well. I've owed a bunch of RV's and the new ones seem to spit sawdust or tiny pieces of insulation for months. As always, thanks for watching
I almost purchased Jayco products a couple of times, most recently a couple of weeks ago but I’ve been put off by quality issues. There are too many cases of problems right from the get go and problems people have in having these fixed. In both cases I’ve ended up buying a more expensive but better built and equipped competitors.
Like many people are saying in the commments, most of the manufacturers are cutting corners and building as cheap as they can. This video may make it look like Jayco builds quality, but they definitely do not! I would look at many of the other manufacturers before buying from Jayco. Their quality, customer service and warranty all are very poor.
I purchased a Jayco Eagle in 2019. After every trip it went back to the dealer for repairs. Replaced the radio, water heater won’t stay lit on propane. Never fixed properly and the warranty is up now. Lights over the dinning table just fell off and broken glass everywhere. The lift switch failed on me when trying to leave a camp spot. Did that by hand. After my latest trip I returned home to find ceiling molding on the floor. The first time I used it the propane smell was strong while barbecuing. I sprayed soapy water on all the connections. Ninety percent of the fittings leaked. Phone chargers in the bedroom don’t work. When I brought this to the dealers attention and was told they meet speck. The floor is starting to squeak more. There is nothing “quality” about Jayco.

Absolutely agree ! I don't know about Jayco, but I heard that thin guage metals are used for the chassis and a lot of them are prone to rust ! The prices are absolutely outrageous !
Totally agree 26,000 bucks for a Jayco card board box that only took 1 day to ho from a dream to a nightmare now its 4 years old and worth maybe 2000 I have 40 years experience building houses and steel buildings it's falling apart faster than I can fix it I feel like a fool for wasting my hard earned savings on there is no way to describe with words how could anybody with a conscious at the end of the day feel good about what they do they get away with it I guess because there are plenty of people like me that are honest with pride and honor it what they do and want to belive that thst the guy looking you in the eye while shaking your hand is the same way ment to say I agree and all this just pored out

I found it interesting when you made the point of not using staples in the construction of the cabinet frames to make them sturdier. Yet in every scene in the video showing bare frames, they are all stapled. It was also interesting to see the extremely poor quality wood used in the frames, and especially in the roof trusses you seem to be very excited about. Those 2x3s they are using to build those trusses have no strength when oriented on the flat side, like the trusses shown in this video. And the excessive amount of checking & cracking will only serve to weaken an already poorly designed structure. One other item of note in this video, none of the wood used throughout the units seems to have any attempt at sealing it to prevent rot. Water infiltration is inevitable in any RV. But it does not seem like Jayco really makes much, if any effort to waterproof anything.
I'm not saying that any of the other manufacturers do any better, in fact I've visited at least one factory that I'm embarrassed to ever admit I was there after seeing just how bad the material & workmanship is. But I'm certainly not seeing anything in this video that would lead me to believe that Jayco is doing a better job than any of the other, reputable manufacturers.
On a side note, a former employer of mine purchased a new & very, very expensive Jayco 5th wheel. In the two years since he purchased the trailer, it has spent more time at the dealership getting repair work than it has in his possession. His biggest problem, slide-outs that constantly malfunction. Not just occasionally, virtually every second or third time using one.
Considering he paid more for that trailer than most people will ever pay for a house, I've never seen such deplorable build quality on the inside. There are many instances of misaligned furniture & trim. Cabinet doors that don't close properly, drawers that are so stiff you can barely move them. The shower pan is raised up from the floor one side, and Jayco's solution was to just increase the bead of caulk from one side to the other (the bead is approximately 1/16" on one side to almost 1/2" on the other).
Unfortunately, poorly built RVs are the norm, and not the exception. It's just the nature of the industry.
Our unit, a 2021 26RK, the kitchen cabinets have been assembled with a combination of methods. The biggest issue is the low quality MDF they used in the construction. In our sticks and bricks house, we had a flood in the master bath a few years ago where the builders grade, vinyl wrapped vanity cabinet was soaked in water, the drawers completely flooded. This remained for hours in water. We got it dried out and it showed NO signs of damage. No swelling, no peeling of the vinyl, NO damage. Once again, that was in our sticks and bricks. In our White Hawk 26RK kitchen, a small leak from the sink p-trap and a small leak from a cracked water pump sediment filter caused significant swelling damage and the vinyl to peel off large sections of the kitchen cabinets. This was with MINIMAL water exposure. Now I get to rebuild the kitchen cabinets.
Honestly, this is just the latest in the long list of issues we have had with this rig. Not sure any of the others are built any better but I damn well know that Jayco hasn't provided us with much fun over the first year and a half of ownership.
I was going to comment on this, this guy on this video is talking all nonsense making jayco look like there are the best and yet using staples on the where the pocket screw is more efficient. Staples barely holding on the wall structure. The stud the don't even make 45 cuts or any angle cuts to fit perfectly into the the wall. Plus all wire ran like if a kid pull them wire they start using at least some cable tray to keep those cable nice and neat.

I bought a new 2018 Jayco Hummingbird and loved it. However, it leaked water from day one. Fortunately, I my dealer was within 5 miles of my home because I took it back multiple times to get the leak corrected. They would apply some ProFlex here and there, run a yard sprinkler on it for 30 minutes and call it done. I actually found one defect that was causing a water issue. They cut the lower refrigerator vent flush with the floor instead of an inch lower like I found other campers to be and was told was proper. That creates a lip to stop water but mine, being flush to the floor allowed water to enter under the refrigerator. I corrected that issue but that wasn’t the main leak. Eventually, I had mildew on the seat cushion bottoms. I continued to return my unit to my dealer until, 3 months prior to my 2 year warranty expiring, Jayco notified my dealer that they would no longer pay any warranty work on my unit. I was stuck! I couldn’t sell it due to the mildew issue and evident water stains in the cabin, so I traded it to another camper dealer at a loss just to get rid of my problem. Now, for 2 1/2 years, I have an amazingly well built camper that has never leaked! Never again, Jayco! Never again!
I’ve looked at so many trailers, every manufacturer, came right back to Jayco. I think we’re setting our sights on the Jayflight 263 RBS, thanks

I own a 264BH that I bought January 11th this year. The wall in the bathroom is bad out of square to the point that the door doesn't fit the frame right. It's so obvious that even the owner at the dealership commented on it and said fix it now. They made an appointment for February 27th to bring it in. Why do I now own a travel trailer that I can't use or even put my gear into for 6 weeks or longer? I feel like it should have been a top priority or even returned to the factory for repairs. My first impression with Jayco is not good at all!

Interesting video. We just bought a 2024 Jayco Jay Flight 235MBHW in February. Our first RV was a Keystone Hideout and we learned so much about preventive maintenance and addressing the small things to keep our RV ready for camping and road worthy. The first thing I did with our Jayco upon purchase was complete a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior of the RV. I found two screw heads stripped off, several screws stripped, the top exterior slide out seal pulled off the exterior wall (by the way it is stapled on), the top interior slide out seal pulled away from the wall, the top interior wall panel was cut out leaving a huge gap between the wall panel and top of the slide out, a piece of trim missing on the slide, the furnace not screwed/bolted to the floor, furnace fan blade cracked, the slidebox not evenly centered for the exterior seals to make a proper seal along the sides of the slide out, and the rear stabilizing jack screws mounted directly into the sewage hose storage bumper which protruded up into the storage bumper and would not allow the hose to be stored, (I figured this out when I tried to store the hose, it jammed and when I pulled to try to remove it, it ripped the end connector off the hose). And...our RV Go Power Solar Charge controller was wired incorrectly. Since the end of March, our RV has been sitting at the dealership awaiting for parts from Jayco (today is May 10). By the way we were informed a few weeks ago that the parts were shipped to Minnesota and had to be rerouted to our location. This RV was not an impulsive buy, but one that we believed was the right fit for our family. We were shopping for an RV for 5-6 months and found this one and really liked what we saw. We looked at reviews, the Jayco website and compared this RV to other competitors. We decided on this one for many reasons. We made a 370 mile round trip to pick this one up and return to our home. We are disappointed that our RV left the Jayco plant in this condition. I'm glad we have a 2+3 from Jayco understanding that issues do arise, but we believe these discrepancies should have been identified and repaired prior to shipment to dealer. After all repairs are completed, our hope is we will enjoy our Jayco and it will serve many great family memories throughout the years as our children grow.
When I saw all the staples holding the lvl beam on the upper portion of the frame...actually everything seems to be held together with those staples....I was shocked. There were framing nail plates used as well. Did they run out of screws in Indiana? For a house that is going to vibrate and shake...I guess they're all building absolence into trailers too.
I’m glad i ggot a pre-pandemic build grand design 2020. Prayers are with anyone with a newer cobbled together rv with supply chain parts from whereever and mismatched.
I have a COVID built 2022 Jayco Greyhawk 30Z and I keep fighting all their lack of quality issues. Water heater tank installed on top of rubber gas line. Over time it collapsed causing low gas flow. Jayco said it was my fault for the lack of maintenance. The bedroom slide is not chaulked properly and leaks water into the camper. Outside trim pieces are coming loose. The water hose connection to the back of the toilet was loose and leaking water.
I’ve had two Rv repair guys tell me they wouldn’t buy anything after 2019. And to keep my 02 fleetwood as long as I could.

Absolutely love the behind the scenes look at the build process, workmanship, & material makeup that goes into these RVs. I'm on my 3rd Jayco (currently own a NP 310rlts) and have been extremely satisfied with each one. I've never considered another make/manufacturer. I've seen several like videos from Josh Winters at Bish's RV. You two are the absolute best at presenting factory & RV tours. FANTASTIC job!

Jayco was bought out in 2016 by Thor , we have a 2017 model jayflight slx made in 2016 , it is holding up well for an 8 year old RV.

We RV technicians who's been in the RV industry for 30 years + have to rebuild most of the Manufacturers screw ups we rebuild slid outs roofs floors and ceilings even bent frames around the holding tanks
Looking at the framework of the interior walls,,, The Staples from one 2x2 to another are not even centered, they're off!?? What the heck? If workers are too much in a hurry to get these built we're stuck with crappy Rv's! And now that I'm looking at the framework even further, everything is stapled?! What happened to good reliable screws?
I watched a previous video on the build of jaycos and they pride themselves in how fast they build a unit in less then 6 hours,the entire RV industry needs a complete investigation especially through the covid era.

Interesting, they are built a little sturdier than I gave them credit for. Good point that they have to tolerate high winds and lots of vibration and bumps along the road. We just replaced our old popup with a 2023 travel trailer and was surprised that it has the on-demand water heater that was new for this year. Not sure I like it very much. My gripe is that it doesn't make it easy to conserve water when showering. You have to wait for it to light up, heat the water, and get the hot water to the other end of the unit where the shower is. If you then turn off the water to wash up, it shuts off. Then you turn the water on again, you get still-warm water, but then you get a burst of cold water and you're waiting again for it to warm up again.
Good points, Dave. Not sure which brand of water heater you got, but the Furrion 60k that Jayco installs has a 1L mixing reservoir that helps maintain a constant temp. Some units, depending the install, also have a recirculating function whereby the water is instantly hot at the faucet location when turning on.
Wish they would use the system used in Geo Pro's that shows when the water is hot at the shower and diverts the warming water back to the fresh water tank.
Enjoyed the video, and read many of the comments. I enjoyed the fact that you showed the material and construction. As a person that has worked around construction, I also have questions about somethings.
However customers dictate how things are built and price range. I do believe there is a need for different price ranges for different quantities.

The cleat is weaker than frame to frame welding.
I noticed that as well. They welded a little piece of metal to the main frame and the A-frame piece - to be honest that has virtually no structural integrity.

Lino not wrapped around the edges, And most unit do use galvanized steel sheets around the wheel well. Bragging that the furniture is not stapled together, but screwed together. But the shower base is stapled together.

I am looking at the 29.5 and grand design reflection 278bh. I gave a slight edge to the Jayco because I like the couch position to tv compared to the grand design.

They've been welding those frames like that for years. I use to weld those frames and every frame other companies build on are welded like that. The only frames that weld their tongues on the bottom of the frame are mobile homes cause they have detachable tongues.
That plywood subfloor should’ve been installed length wise where the subfloor joints are at a 50% off set
Is there a video on how the Jayco Seneca's are made, and maybe you can answer this, Why is there no roof ladder on the Seneca?
We have a Seneca that we will do a video on soon! I can't answer the "why" regarding the lack of ladder. They quit offering ladders around 2017. Personally I like to have a ladder. In the absence of one, I would suggest a portable telescoping ladder to access the roof. Thanks for watching our vids!

Read the negative remarks about the build quality. I bought a new Jay Flight 29 QBH in 2012 and it has been great! I did climb up on the roof and put down 4” strips of Eternabond tape where they had to cut through the roof for the A/C, etc. I have never had a leak or any serious problems. Very pleased with Jayco! 😀
Hi there jayco why and not only you guys but everyone using wood for framing are you not treating the wood ? I've dealt with this Oversight for 40 yrs , every one of my RVs 6 of them have had wood rot from water , so when I repair them I treat the lumber with a preservative and regularly check and maintain the seams , I've never bought a new unit but as a tradesman builder that was the first issue that I addressed , my first year apprentices prep and seal all my wood , just an observation!
I have a2020 Bungalow theshower floor cracked and they don't want to fix it no support under it !
I am surprised the factory assembly line is still running considering that every RV dealer lot across the country is completely jammed with these trailers and the sales drop and owners being upside down in their loans.
RVs are still moving, albeit at a slower pace YTD. However numbers are closer to what the were pre-Covid.
@@VogtRVWorld Buyers should wait until the prices drop because of oversupply. In my cross country trips over the last few years including passing by the manufacturer's in Indiana and dealer lots.nthe inventory seems tremendous. Also people tend to buy them after retirement and age out.

Yes, they were supposed to have one at the Tampa show however opted against bringing it as they are making a couple more changes to the model and didn't want to roll it out "officially" before it was done. I anticipate Jayco will be able to roll them out starting later this spring. Thanks for asking!
Is there a tag or badge like a vehicle that states the tank capacities of a travel trailer or is it just to be believed what they say it is? I am considering buying a 280 RKS in a couple of years and I'm told that out west I can get a 52 gallon fresh tank, but maybe only 38 gallons here in the east. specifically Joliet, IL near Chicago. Or i might have to special order and wonder how long I'll end up waiting.

Thank you I really enjoyed the factory tour through Jayco. I thought the aluminum constructed campers were the best ones. I have a 2008 carriage cameo fifth wheel and it is constructed with the seamless windows and roof trusses. I bought it because as everyone knows a little water will rot wood relatively quick. Why does jayco go with wood over aluminum studs and trusses? The weight has be be greatly improved with the aluminum.

Curious to know being Jayco owns Starcraft, is this same procedure used on Starcraft units?
Great question, Frank. My understanding is that while Starcraft is a subsidiary of Jayco and their original intent was for Starcraft to operate independently, many aspects of construction and floorplans have blurred between the brands. Starcraft is a lower price point unit, but employs many of the same construction techniques. As always, thx for watching our vids.

Recently saw a new Pinnacle and it was junk, So many issues and broken pieces in all areas of the rv. My perception of the brand changed instantly
I've owned a couple of new higher-end Jayco trailers that had aluminum framed walls, with wooden roof trusses.
I know this is a lower end unit, but i can't believe that everything is still wood, pretty much like they've always been.
Wood frames and aluminum skin may seem old fashioned, but if you have a problem, you can fix it, not panels glue to synthetic materials. The old engineers that came up with the first camper trailers knew what they were doing. You can get materials like wood anywhere. I looked at the campers like the Geo with smooth panels with aluminum frames, and synthetic substrate, was almost going that route, but a local place that sells both styles say the still de laminate. I’d croak if my brand new $30,000 plus damper fell apart, thanks

Just stopped by a Jayco dealer after seeing this video as it gives a sense of a quality build. Stepped inside some 2024 models only to find paneling bowing and popping off some walls, window trim pulling away and just poor interior finish and fit. Exterior quality looks good. Whether the Amish or zippy the chimp are building these they are only as good as the company standards.

I have plans on buying anything like this, but I found the video really interesting. I’ve seen other videos of these RVs and seen how cheaply made they are and it’s always turn me off. But after seeing this, I think if I ever were going to buy one and definitely buy a Jayco. Thanks for doing the video things like this mean a lot to people who are looking at spending a lot of money on the products such as this. You look like great trailers that are very well-made. Are these tours open to the public? Are these tours opened up to potential buyers?

Aluminum frames are not as strong as stick built trailers.....if quality lumber is used. Some of the wood I saw being used looks like it was reclaimed from a Home Depot dumpster. The aluminum frames are only as good as the welds......most of the welds I've seen look like tack welds instead of nice flows.
Amazing Jayco totes their quality lol, but Jayco can't put a wax ring with a horn or a rubber ring with a horn under the toilet.
Instead, they just put a rubber ring under the toilet with no horn knowing all too well the vibration from the road will allow the toilet to move just enough to allow water to seep under the linoleum flooring rotting out the strand board.
Of course, if they were to use plywood and paint it before installing it making it even more resistant to water, instead of the OSB strand board I might not have to replace the floor I'm in the middle of doing.
Are Jayco units affordable?

I am no engineer by any means, but I have seen a lot of things I could do different for quality purposes and rigidness, if this is better quality than most other manufacturers, I would hate to tour other brands that are built cheaper.

One being the quality (or lack there of) of the wood framing material. I know people like to scrimp and save money, but if you are one of the better builders, why would you use scrap grade lumber? So, as a customer I am going to pay for that? I sincerely hope that you share these comments with Jayco - or they go online and read them. With any hope they will take some of this constructive criticism to heart and further improve their product.

Alot of bad comments on Jayco's. My 2021 , purchased in 2020(non covid purchase) has been flawless so far. 7500+/- miles. Want to go 5th wheel but kinda scared of the covid quality of all of them.
Thank you Tom. Interesting about negative vs. positive comments for *any* brand. When my wife and I were shopping RV's a few years ago, I was surprise to find many negative comments on some brands that are universally accepted as the best brands for reliability and brand quality. I realized that if folks have an issue, they are quick to point it out and tell the world. On the other hand, few people well tend to say "hey my unit has been awesome. No issues!". It's human nature, I suppose. In any case, thanks for your comments!
Unfortunately the design of these units are setup to fail from the start. If you drive into a dealer lot where the unit was delivered during the winter there is surface rust all over the place. The roof trusses are wood and most of these units leak from the openings cut out for vents and air conditioners. Owners have no idea how quickly these seals start to crack and leak. These units should be built without one stick of wood in them. Totally aluminum from top to bottom. That way when the unit leaks the skeleton of the trailer allows to rebuilt the walls and ceiling easily. Unless your checking all the seals on this units every couple of weeks they will leak. Talking from experience as I have rebuilt about a half dozen water damage trailers. Not to mention paying $30000 to $150000 for a trailer and then financing it over 20 years is border line nuts.

The biggest problem with RV's is that they try to give you so much for so little, that they end up building cheaply built RV's. Better to build smaller quality products than larger inferior products.
With all manufacturers, It's a balance between quality, cost, and weight considerations.
1:30 pm on july 3, 2024. The furniture is chinese vinyl covering. It is literally falling apart. We bought a 2015 jay flight. Wish I could send you a picture. We are going to rip the cushions out down to the frame and see how we can put loose cushions on it. It is a dangerous chinese vinyl. 32:10
To bad they do not vacuum the saw dust out of ventilation system

I almost purchased Jayco products a couple of times, most recently a couple of weeks ago but I’ve been put off by quality issues. There are too many cases of problems right from the get go and problems people have in having these fixed. In both cases I’ve ended up buying a more expensive but better built and equipped competitors.
Like many people are saying in the commments, most of the manufacturers are cutting corners and building as cheap as they can. This video may make it look like Jayco builds quality, but they definitely do not! I would look at many of the other manufacturers before buying from Jayco. Their quality, customer service and warranty all are very poor.
Every year rv quality gets less and less. Had a 2014 forest river work n play. Had more issues than my previous 4 used rvs.
Im buying a jayco travel trailer when i retire
I purchased a Jayco Eagle in 2019. After every trip it went back to the dealer for repairs. Replaced the radio, water heater won’t stay lit on propane. Never fixed properly and the warranty is up now. Lights over the dinning table just fell off and broken glass everywhere. The lift switch failed on me when trying to leave a camp spot. Did that by hand. After my latest trip I returned home to find ceiling molding on the floor. The first time I used it the propane smell was strong while barbecuing. I sprayed soapy water on all the connections. Ninety percent of the fittings leaked. Phone chargers in the bedroom don’t work. When I brought this to the dealers attention and was told they meet speck. The floor is starting to squeak more. There is nothing “quality” about Jayco.
