I'd love to see this done with all top-down 2d Zelda games. Imagine this with LttP or the Oracle series.

@@chuardo3557 If you google "A Link to the Past PC port" you will find a lot of links about its PC ports. With a quick glance it seems that there might be a few different ports done by different people.
@@xarxex I think you're thinking of OoT, which got it's source code leaked alongside mario 64, both games got pc ports using the source code but that's different snice the video shows something made from the ground up
this is INSANE!!! wow when zooming out to see the entire island ALL enemies are spawned and alive! that is crazy! makes the game feel like a real open world that is alive xD AMAZING JOB!!
So cool being able to zoom out all the way and see the entire map with everything moving around. The definitive Link's Awakening experience right here.

Nah the Switch version is still MUCH better than this is. But this isn't bad I guess.
I wonder if the same could be applied to the Zelda 3 project, ALttP ported version.

Now THIS is how you do a Nintendo fangame/mod! Release it quietly and anonymously, then when it gains traction online everyone can download it while Nintendo is slowed by bureaucracy trying to take it down. This is a public service and we all thank you.
Or, alternatively, if it's a port of an existing game, make the player supply their own ROM file, which makes you pretty much legally untouchable.
@@zekeram129 this is true and why we have other great pc ports! i have to assume it wasn't a possibility with how this port was done, idk. but we do have all the source code, so someone can certainly make a version that works like that if it's possible.
@@zekeram129this game literally does not use LA code. The coding is CUSTOM. Hence the hitboxes are off and it has a lot of softlocks.

Absolutely incredible! The QOL features really make this port go above and beyond.
Wow! I had goosebumps while watching this, and cold shivers ran down my spine, and a huge smile lit up in my face. I haven't felt this way while watching a trailer for as long as I can think back. I can only imagine how much painstaking effort must have gone into this, you are a beast. And you did it right. Kept your mouth shut until you finished it and then put it out there. How difficult it must have been for you to remain silent all the time. I'm really angry when I think how they wipe away your work just like that. You've created a testament of true fan passion and you can rest assured it will be remembered and cherished for a long time. Much respect for you man, and all the best for whatever endeavours you plan on pursuing next.
This is amazing. Two things.
1, with the expanded view, it can be hard to tell when the compass beeps exactly what part of the area you are in that has the hidden item/key.
2, it would be amazing to be able to put the mini map in the bottom right corner of the screen in dungeons.
The key alert tone doesn't go off until Link steps into the room it's in. It's not based on what's viewable, but on Link's position. While the camera can show more of the map, the game's engine still operates under the original logic.
Thanks so much to whoever was involved in making this! This is hands down one of the best ports ever made.

Nintendo should have just gave you some money and then sold this on Steam.
This is a cool project and would love to see other old games get this kind of expanded world treatment like Zelda 1, Link to the past, super metroid, ect...

seriously big props to who ever did this and waited with the release until they were truly finished. you made a lot of people happy and this is all that matters. i'm excited to see what others devs, fans or the community in general will do with this source code delivered
When you zoom out, the whole island is crawling with life and energy!
The Ninja army can try to take you down. They can bring their katanas, their nunchucks, and their Cease & Desist letters all they want, but true Legends never die.
Don't worry about the CND. We see how much good it did for AM2R, lolololol...

I would highly recommend taking all of the actual game assets out of the release and doing that thing that people do where they make you supply your own ROM file and then the program extracts the assets from it for use in the port. This is genuinely amazing and I would _not_ like to see Nintendo smite this thing the second it starts to gain traction.

@@robhulson People are just worse at finding things now, which is perhaps for the best. While they could have released source without assets in this case, at least they're releasing a fairly polished 1.0 instead of an early alpha that we never hear about again after C&D.

Unfurtunately there's a serious error in the Eagle's tower level. The map is wrong, shortly before the door to the boss. That makes it impossible to reach the boss und thus to complete this game. So for those of you who still trying to download this although this project has been taken down by Nintendo: Save your time. Without an update this game is not playable (at least not til the end) unfortunately.
This is goddamn amazing. Exactly what I wanted from a modern port of Links Awakening. Can we expect a port to homebrewed Switchs?

I like this a lot. Unfortunately I ran into a bug at the end of Level 4 - when you try to collect the harp the game softlocks and won't teleport you out of the dungeon, making it impossible to get the fourth instrument and progress in the game.
EDIT: I managed to resolve this by downloading it again and importing my save files. Game now runs normally again and the bug hasn't happened in Level 5.

I'm as amazed by this as I was totally unsurprised it got taken down. There were probably better ways to avoid getting a takedown notice.
If some of the quality of life features from the Switch remake like shield strafing were here this would be perfect
Incredible port but only took Nintendo 12 days to notice and take it down.
The Oracle games getting this treatment would be amazing.
I think there are some bugs where the enemy is supposed to be weak to arrows but only dash attack works, also there is a door on Turtle Rock Dungeon that can cause softlock because it consumes keys without opening. The door where it happened was the left side of the small key door in the same room that has the nightmare door.
Oh I forgot to say, many times during the game there was an npc and when you talked to him it only said error
I think one of the times the guy on the main house was with bananas and the other was the monkey on the fishing boat area taht has the mermaid necklace

This is the greatest thing I've seen in a long long time.
Truly looks awesome. But one question for the genius coder: did you ever consider adding an option that would retain the original's scrolling method (the next screen only appearing when Link gets to the edge of the current screen)? I'd really love to see such an option added. 🙂

Good job developing it under the radar then releasing it all at once. The big N can take it down, but once a thing is on the Internet it's out there forever. Not hard to find.

@@0FFICERPROBLEM I always hated this argument. You don't risk losing your IP if you don't throw C&Ds at literally everything. You, at the holder, can choose not to pursue legal action on project, and this is done a lot of the time. There are plenty of other fan projects, mods, and use of existing IPs by non-IP holders all the time, and none of those IPs are at risk of being lost. Stop defending Nintendo when all they are doing is being the bully they've always been.

to access it, just run the program with and append the word `editor` after it (so open up cmd in the folder with the exe, then run `"Link's Awakening DX HD.exe" editor`)

Wait, is this the actual FULL game? Like can you beat it like you normally can Link's Awakening DX? If so, should this be the first version I show to my friend? Or is the GBA version more complete? (I know the plasticy Switch version is also a thing but I'd prefer if we started with the other one)
It got taken down by Nintendo, apart from some bugs it was a faithful full PC port of the game with a very good adjustable camera.

I explored some game files before i play it. So i found some files from xna. So, C# language + Monogame game engine (maybe decompiled there)

Next time, maybe don't include Nintendo owned content in your download. Keep it 100% your own code and have users supply the ROM for all the Nintendo owned content. Nintendo can't take your project down if they don't own your code.

The reason author decided not to do it was probably because making a software to rip and reconstruct the assets wasn't worth the time.
The whole point was a PR stunt to get hired by a big company, the lovely game hd remake was a bonus.
@@V3Efreet Yup, the only reason people make fan games of Nintendo products these days is the publicity they gain when Nintendo takes it down.
Hoping this leads to recreations of the Oracle games as well since they are also GBC games with similar graphics and gamplay, and their story is linked directly to LA. Since the source code is available can someone please make it happen! Nintendo is obviously gonna neglect those games when it comes to remakes.
So now that this is down on itchio... is there some discord or something where people post updates on this? Really want to follow this if this get a homebrew Switch port.
