    Doing annual tractor maintenance today on my TC40. Re-watched some of your maintenance videos for the umpteenth time. Really appreciate them. Great job. Stay safe.

    Fluid filled tires are checked for pressure with the valve stem at TOP dead Center. Tire pressures are listed on the tire in AIR pressure ONLY. Lots of good info here in this Video, Thanks Mike!

    When I lived in Alaska we would wipe down our non-stainless rifles with WD-40 before going deer hunting in the rain, which was most of the time as it rains a lot there. After 5 years my gun had zero rust. Now that I live on the Gulf Coast, I keep my tractor sprayed well with WD-40 to keep the salt air from corroding the entire machine out from under me. So far so good, no rust and everything moves, glides, slides, and spins as it should. Rally good stuff that WD! 👍

    Ank you very much Mike, my tractor is coming up on a 50 hour maintenance. The manual only says to change all fluids,filters,engine oil,and filter and inspect the tire torque settings. I've never considered some of the things you mentioned but you can bet that I'll be checking these area's too. Also I will be keeping a record of the checks that i do. Good record keeping is essential as well. Thanks Mike.

    Regarding tire pressure, you also get better traction at lower tire pressures.

    I greased my lower link balls before i started my first field cut of the year. I just took some from my grease gun and spread it around on the balls. I think it will stay just as well as WD 40

    A white lithium grease would work better for some of those applications. Oil it if it spins. Grease it if it slides.

    Hey Mike, I'm thinking about building a tractor shed, I trust your judgment could you discuss what type of shed is best price wise and how do you go about figuring out what size you should build. As to not go crazy huge but big enough to get all your valuable farm equipment inside. Thanks Tony

    • @TractorMike
      @TractorMike  3 роки тому +1

      The guy to go to for shed building is Paul here: ua-cam.com/channels/tDpVQE9Bb0iJRoj3XXCRxA.html. He's the expert. My only nugget, you can't build it too big. It's not possible. No equipment owner has ever said "I wish I had built a smaller building."

    WD40 is unbeatable for wet ignitions. Not so much for lubrication, rust prevention and penetrating, lots of better products designed for those uses.

    Mike
    Ian from Australia here. On my old Massey's , in which the tires have water or something in them, I find I must check the pressure with the valve at 12 o'clock to get a pressure reading. I noticed you checked yours at 6 o'clock. Do you have water in your tires?
    Really enjoying your channel.
    Cheers from Australia

      Hi Ian, I do have fluid in the tires and always try to check them at 12 o'clock. I was trying to get the video done and was lazy :).

    How do you check the air pressure on the rear tires if they are mostly filled with water?

  • @78jding
    @78jding 5 років тому

    How do you handle adding air to tires that have liquid in them? The rear tires on mine are low, and need air. Does it need to be jacked up to take pressure off of the tire so the liquid isn’t forced out when the valve stem cover is removed?

  • @thecountrylivingproject3263
    @thecountrylivingproject3263 5 років тому

    Wouldn't it be better to check tire pressure with the valve at the top to prevent getting fluid in your gauge? Or is the liquid ballast filled higher than the valve even when it is at the 12 o'clock position?

  • @zimzim2160

  • @brucealvarez9263
    @brucealvarez9263 5 років тому

    I don't suppose I should be telling Tractor Mike anything but .... Somewhere I read that one should check pressure on filled tires only when the stem is at the top of the wheel.

  • @jrsmyth9761
    @jrsmyth9761 5 років тому

    When checking tires with liquid for ballast, place the valve at the top of the tire.

    Caution with fluid filled tires. Went to check the air and the dust cap was locked onto the stem. Hand cranked on it a bit and the brass fitting pulled out of the stem. Beet juice everywhere! My theory is that the beet juice leaked a bit, dried and locked the cap on the stem.
    Couple of notes regarding beet juice filled tires;
    Replace (or have) your rubber valve stems replaced with brass stems. About $35.00 for valve, more beet juice and labor.
    ALWAYS put a jack stand under the axle when checking the air on fluid filled tires. That way if something goes wrong, no spray. Trust me, that stuff stinks.

    Air pressure gauge type. Is there a different type to use if the tire is filled with Beat Juice (liquid)?
    I normally watch your channel exclusively. But I do get time off as needed.
    There is this girl who pointed out there is a difference in air gage and you needed a special type to check pressure if there is more than air in the tire.
    Is she correct?
    She said the pressure gauge needs a spring in it. Maybe to force the liquid out, and not damage it.
