Taking my time to learn the controls (not use to R2 then pressing the X, Circle, Triangle, of Square) to invoke a spell) and exploring EVERYTHING in the castle. My biggest issue is finding a good setting for camera movement. My sense is when combat starts I get anxious and over correct thus missing my target. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I am.
Just a tip: go always with *stats* over *fashion* since there is a Transmogrification feature. Basically every item you once had in your possession, even if you did sell it, you can take that look and apply it over any other item. You do this in the same place where you fit you gear just by pressing another button. So you will end up with stats *and* fashion :)
This is right- almost felt hidden at first. On PS5 you have to hit the square button on an equipment slot and then it brings up the transmog feature to make any piece look however you want without affecting your stats
Yeah you just hover over the item slot in the gear overview where your whole character is visible. Hover over a gear slot without clicking into it and then there is a button for "customize appearance" So thers is no tradeoff between fashion and stats
My number one tip that I would go back and follow if I could is that while you shouldn't be discouraged from doing a little exploring at the start and along the way, don't get too wrapped up in exploring too early, and try to get to at least the point in the game at which you receive the Alohamora spell. By that point, you'll have nearly all of what makes you functional for any kind of situation or puzzle you may encounter while exploring. Plus, it'll be Autumn, and exploring in Autumn has a much better wizarding vibe than exploring in "September." If you explore every nook and cranny of Hogwarts too soon, you'll miss out on the magic of being organically led to different locations by the story, and you'll also end up doing a lot of back-tracking because there are a lot of points of interaction and doors that require learning various spells in order to access.
Important tip: always sell items before going on main quests. many of them won't allow you to leave the immediate area without failing the quest. So, if you don't wanna redo half the quest because you forgot to empty your inventory, just sell beforehand.
Agree.... theres no store mechanic so sell EVERYTHING worse than youre wearing all the time. Dont forget, everything you loot stores the look indefinately so if your top gear looks shit you can can change it FOC to anything youve previously found
Other note: You can sell your gear to any vendor (not just the guy who sells gear). I spend more time at the potion or seed shops. I just sell my unwanted gear to them.
A couple things: If you skipped the hint in this video, here is a non spoiler hint. The doors puzzles are confusing, but if you search through Hogwarts you can find an item that explains what you need to know for the puzzle. Also, as a couple other people have mentioned, you can make any piece of equipment look like any other piece of equipment by pressing the button for "appearance". That way you can go for stats and not worry about looking like the dorky kid at the mall in Christmas Story.
I figured out the Arithmancy doors within five minutes of being let loose in Hogwarts. Seemed pretty straightforward to me once I realized what I was looking at. Finally found the item that explains the puzzles after I'd already opened a half-dozen doors lol
There are a few indicators that the icons on the door start at 0. The unicorn is 1. A 3 headed snake is 3. A crab with 5 legs is 5. A spider (8 legs) is 8, and the hydra at number 9 has 9 heads. There was also a page I found at one of these doors, near the divination tower I believe, that straight up tells you the number association.

I loved my ps4, but gave it to my sister and her husband after getting my ps5. The games mentioned above are great. Plus Cyberpunk 2077 is actually good now.
Took me half the game to figure out you can manually switch day and night in your map. So many times I was sitting around waiting for night to come. It's your "wait" key in the map menu.
My wife has never really played a video game before but I got this for her. She said she just wanted to watch me play but I forced her to make a character and play. It was excruciating watching her control the camera and stuff at first, but she's been playing like I do Dark Souls or Elden ring. Like 6 to 7 hours at a time, nonstop. she's so addicted and it's awesome.
you can change the appearance of your gear to the style everything you've collected so far. Even when you sell the gear, it remembers the way it looks for your collection.
One thing that I really like about the game is the clothing. As you find different clothes with better abilities, you can change the appearance of those clothes to something you like better without losing the buffs. So if you find a look you like, you can keep it as you find better gear. It's a nice little touch. And then you go on and cover it in the video. NICE!
I'm so excited to play this when I get off my night audit shift. Got the game preloading, deluxe edition shelled out for, and PC ready to do its thing. I'm probably going to spend my entire couple hours before bed exploring the starting area. Haven't played a potterverse game since 2009

The continuous backlash between people and the devs of gaming companies trying to afford them products and experiences they like is often hindered by the continued profligate hate in the industry by “fans” forcing developers to break down their otherwise vision of a game environment for what might “make the least waves” and people are surprised by the games turning out with “less” than they “should have”. Honestly people, what’s the point of arguing about what didn’t make the cut? If they weren’t trying really hard to make this a faithful and otherwise fun rendition of the material, they’d have made something else.

I'll go with the wand I got Pottermore/WW. 12" Dogwood Wood with a Unicorn core and slightly springy flexibility. I skipped on the Door Puzzle part and just listened to the audio for most of the video because I wanted to go into the game as blind as possible, but the excitement is killing me! 😅
My only gripe with the game is as someone who deliberately "goes the wrong way" on purpose in RPGs so I dont miss something I'm frustrated when I dont know if I have the correct spell or unlock to do a puzzle or open a door yet. There seems to be a TON of backtracking in this game.
Too much backtracking in certain games will annoy me, but Hogwarts is so magical, and I really want to memorize its layout, so I have no issue going to the same places over and over again, especially because I usually try to navigate by sight rather than mini-map.
Regarding the appearance over stats, I would advise picking the best stats every time and then going in and changing the appearance to whatever you want... that feature of Hogwarts Legacy is absolutely amazing!
I wish there was a stat counter on spell usage. I have probably used Revelio 8,838,371 times already LOL For real. I've been pretty turned off from so many games the past couple years. The last good RPG I think I actually enjoyed and took my time was Ghosts Of Tsushima. This is a real one. Take your time. Breath it all in. Took me 8 hours to unlock the damn Room of Requirement LOL
So, uh... That whole bit about "fashion" you can pretty much forget. This game has transmog (meaning you can equip the best gear and freely change how it looks). I dunno how this guy didn't know that.
Few points: 1. Go for gear stats, as you can apply appearance 2. You can sell your gear to anyone, I think all the merchants give same price 3. Wands customisation is cosmetic only, it doesn’t have stats 4. Enemy scales with your level so you won’t get over level for main quest Slight SPOILER.. 5. Be wary of a certain character’s side quests as it will give you dark arts but it’ll impact that particular storyline (this is what I’ve gathered so far)

As always, great info while protecting us from disappointing spoilers. Always my go-to for tricks and tips. \ Will you be doing any kind of build videos? Is that even a thing in this game? I've been purposely avoiding watching videos that would tell me much of anything about skills and spells and such so I can discover it all on my own.
The door puzzle… i stumbled on the right combination and unlocked the door without “solving” it, and the clue immediately disappeared, so I couldn’t use my work to learn the solution 😂
Wish I saw this before hitting my first puzzle door... I said, "I see no rhyme or reason for this, though the number are important" and just rotated the question mark panels and tried the door each rotation 😭. I opened almost all of them until I found the cheat sheet in the rafters on the opposite end of a classroom and next to three more puzzle doors.
Great stuff. Was debating on skipping the door puzzle section and ended up doing so. Always fun to figure it out on your own, but if I do get stumped I'll take a look. Gonna have a ton of fun with this one, I can tell. Not 100% sure which house I'll go for first - I love Hufflepuff, but I have a specific character I want to make for it who's gonna be extremely specialized (if possible). Basically a hippie witch that mainly uses plants and potions instead of her wand because she was cursed with being constantly high and believes she's actually just a muggle having hallucinations. Why yes, I WAS high when I thought of this character lol. Of course a character THAT specialized means I need to know the ins and outs of this game, so having her be my first one would be a bad idea.
happy seeing it as a culmination of the HP franchise like the LEGO games, the activities, platforming, and puzzles were reminiscent of the OG HP titles on PS1. delays are worth it.
one trick I discovered is Stupify 100% does not care about shields it will just break them, so I loaded my self with Fire spells and Accio and use Stupify for shields
Just a nit pick, but according to wizarding world lore it was very common to switch out wands before Garrick started his research, and different wands with different cores cost different amounts of money because Garrick hadn't yet standardized the price, so if you wanted a good core but didn't have the money, you'd have to buy it later.

you can change the way your clothes look so if you want a hat but think its ugly you can still select that hat but make it look like a different one or get rid of it all together. So I would prioritize stats

Character creation is unfortunately pretty shallow, and voice pitch is sounds very artificial and synthesized, they did well with hair options at least. The sorting ceremony was disappointing as well, I was really hoping for a personality quiz or anything. I just started a couple hours ago so those are my only issue so far. Also Headmaster Black is dripped out af
The game is great so far. I hope they fix the HDR and Ray Tracing bugs. That's really my only complaint is the optimization isn't great, it's good, not great.
Solve Merlin trials and it will increase the number of slots. You have to solve more and more trials to get slots increase though. And the increase is only 4 at a time. I am on my fourth increase and only have 36 slots. Spend time advancing the main quests before exploring too much too far as you may lack the appropriate spell at first.
I do wish the game would tell you that you only get one wand, or allow you at least one change or something. I like the one I made but I’m big on aesthetics so I don’t use handles. None of them I feel matches very well with my wand.
This video feels like it was written by someone who’s played like 2 video games in their entire life. Every one of these tips, with the exception of the puzzle, was just explaining basic elements of any game
Also what are they smoking to think this is a “role play heavy game.” Don’t get me wrong I’m really enjoying the game, but there’s not a single choice you can make throughout the game, to the point that you can’t even refuse people’s quests. There will be dialogue choices that clearly reject characters side quests however the actual dialogue forces you into accepting anyway
My only issue with the gear system / mechanic is that I am a loot goblin, and a fan of completionism. So if you have to sell things to make room in your inventory, that will become an issue at some point. I am one of those people that hates to get rid of things. I am always terrified that I will need something later. Also what if you sell something then later on think 'hmm I liked the look or features of X, Y, or Z better'. Can you buy things back or once sold they are gone?
I haven't played yet, but from gameplay I've seen, and other comments here... "Looks" won't matter. Once you've picked up an item, you can forever make another piece of gear look like that item (honestly, surprised Fextra didn't point that out... Maybe it's a feature unlocked later in the game? I'm not sure on that point). As for the stats/mechanics of the items... Yeah... Not sure on that.
@@alexsawickiyou can unlock more space for your inventory once you got through the story a little bit . Merlin’s Trials will be something to look out for . Not going to spoil it for you .
Started playing this yesterday and that door puzzle I ended up googling because it was a pain. Then immediately found a piece of paper that told me how to do it. Realise all the puzzles probably work the same ak gonna avoid and kind of googling and just play now.
I’m still so confused about wands. i keep seeing videos that speculate on OP wands and importing them from buying real ones from the site or the quiz but no info about how it IS in game. are there stats? or is it purely visual? the pottermore site has so much more about abilities of each wood, core, length but not sure if it matters in the game in any way at all
Just so everyone knows, you DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO a special place to sell. Literally, 90 percent of vendors will buy your gear. The only exception is beast sellers.

For the puzzle door. Just do the gobstone quest early and it will lead you to right near the solver page

Will you be doing any kind of build videos? Is that even a thing in this game? I've been purposely avoiding watching videos that would tell me much of anything about skills and spells and such so I can discover it all on my own.
The door puzzle… i stumbled on the right combination and unlocked the door without “solving” it, and the clue immediately disappeared, so I couldn’t use my work to learn the solution 😂
Wish I saw this before hitting my first puzzle door... I said, "I see no rhyme or reason for this, though the number are important" and just rotated the question mark panels and tried the door each rotation 😭. I opened almost all of them until I found the cheat sheet in the rafters on the opposite end of a classroom and next to three more puzzle doors.
Quick question when should you take a break from the story and do exploration and side questions as there are a lot of locked stuff

Great stuff. Was debating on skipping the door puzzle section and ended up doing so. Always fun to figure it out on your own, but if I do get stumped I'll take a look.
Gonna have a ton of fun with this one, I can tell. Not 100% sure which house I'll go for first - I love Hufflepuff, but I have a specific character I want to make for it who's gonna be extremely specialized (if possible). Basically a hippie witch that mainly uses plants and potions instead of her wand because she was cursed with being constantly high and believes she's actually just a muggle having hallucinations. Why yes, I WAS high when I thought of this character lol.
Of course a character THAT specialized means I need to know the ins and outs of this game, so having her be my first one would be a bad idea.
happy seeing it as a culmination of the HP franchise like the LEGO games, the activities, platforming, and puzzles were reminiscent of the OG HP titles on PS1.

one trick I discovered is Stupify 100% does not care about shields it will just break them, so I loaded my self with Fire spells and Accio and use Stupify for shields
You should also make a point to COMPLETE THE TEACHER'S ASSIGNMENTS QUICKLY! I just lost hours of progress because I needed a spell I didn't have.
Just a nit pick, but according to wizarding world lore it was very common to switch out wands before Garrick started his research, and different wands with different cores cost different amounts of money because Garrick hadn't yet standardized the price, so if you wanted a good core but didn't have the money, you'd have to buy it later.

Just sell your gear from your inventory. There’s a tooltip for selling it right there. No unnecessary trips to Hogsmeade just to sell stuff.
i did find an (some sort of) explanation of the secret door puzzle in the astrology tower. I think near the divination classroom.
you can change the way your clothes look so if you want a hat but think its ugly you can still select that hat but make it look like a different one or get rid of it all together. So I would prioritize stats

Proud to say I just brute forced the first door puzzle by trying every combination and afterwards realized how the numbers work.
Character creation is unfortunately pretty shallow, and voice pitch is sounds very artificial and synthesized, they did well with hair options at least. The sorting ceremony was disappointing as well, I was really hoping for a personality quiz or anything. I just started a couple hours ago so those are my only issue so far.

Are you going to cover Steam Deck performance? This is where I want to play the game but I'm concerned the experience will be unstable and awkward.

You can sell your gear at ANY vendor, but just the clothing shop.

The game is great so far. I hope they fix the HDR and Ray Tracing bugs. That's really my only complaint is the optimization isn't great, it's good, not great.
Do we know if there is a way to increase the size of how much gear we can hold? Or are we limited to a preset amount of slots?
Solve Merlin trials and it will increase the number of slots. You have to solve more and more trials to get slots increase though. And the increase is only 4 at a time. I am on my fourth increase and only have 36 slots. Spend time advancing the main quests before exploring too much too far as you may lack the appropriate spell at first.
Maybe I missed something but you can sell gear at any vendor. As best as I can tell they all have the same price.

Biggest tip go take the Pottermore quiz and link your account it makes the experience 10X immersive
The best tip I can give is to have fun and don’t rush the game / missions

Suggestions for graphics setting? I'm leaning balanced if vrr works on my tcl otherwise performance as 60hz is always preferred.

I do wish the game would tell you that you only get one wand, or allow you at least one change or something. I like the one I made but I’m big on aesthetics so I don’t use handles. None of them I feel matches very well with my wand.

This video feels like it was written by someone who’s played like 2 video games in their entire life. Every one of these tips, with the exception of the puzzle, was just explaining basic elements of any game
Also what are they smoking to think this is a “role play heavy game.” Don’t get me wrong I’m really enjoying the game, but there’s not a single choice you can make throughout the game, to the point that you can’t even refuse people’s quests. There will be dialogue choices that clearly reject characters side quests however the actual dialogue forces you into accepting anyway
You are stuck with your wand but you can customize it as much as you want, not really like the lore where the wand chooses you.

My only issue with the gear system / mechanic is that I am a loot goblin, and a fan of completionism. So if you have to sell things to make room in your inventory, that will become an issue at some point. I am one of those people that hates to get rid of things. I am always terrified that I will need something later. Also what if you sell something then later on think 'hmm I liked the look or features of X, Y, or Z better'. Can you buy things back or once sold they are gone?
I haven't played yet, but from gameplay I've seen, and other comments here... "Looks" won't matter. Once you've picked up an item, you can forever make another piece of gear look like that item (honestly, surprised Fextra didn't point that out... Maybe it's a feature unlocked later in the game? I'm not sure on that point).
As for the stats/mechanics of the items... Yeah... Not sure on that.
@@alexsawickiyou can unlock more space for your inventory once you got through the story a little bit . Merlin’s Trials will be something to look out for . Not going to spoil it for you .
Collect pages they'll level you up quick in the beginning.
Started playing this yesterday and that door puzzle I ended up googling because it was a pain. Then immediately found a piece of paper that told me how to do it. Realise all the puzzles probably work the same ak gonna avoid and kind of googling and just play now.
For the moment I have a 4 year old gaming laptop with nvidea 1050 ti... So "Fast Travel" takes almost as long as walking there with a lot of lag

I’m still so confused about wands. i keep seeing videos that speculate on OP wands and importing them from buying real ones from the site or the quiz but no info about how it IS in game. are there stats? or is it purely visual? the pottermore site has so much more about abilities of each wood, core, length but not sure if it matters in the game in any way at all

Just so everyone knows, you DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO a special place to sell. Literally, 90 percent of vendors will buy your gear. The only exception is beast sellers.
