Awesome content...please more...great channel
As a laseractive owner I can tell you although it is a very cool system, it's prone to breaking down and capacitor rot. If you want a repair challenge, look no further.
I always thought it was a shame that the Genesis/Mega Drive and TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine were never released in "media spec" variations outside this one weird amalgam. It would have been interesting to have a version of either console that could blend in with my hi-fi stack, rather than sitting by themselves on a separate shelf! Frankly, it's something I've always wanted to make, though I've never had the materials or expertise.
Great video; thanks for making it. ✨
Cool vid.
We love our LA collection.
Guessing not many imported to Aust. We know of only two in Melb.
The sheer audacity required to sell the game packs at over double the price of the consoles they're based on baffles me.
Awesome video! Thanks
Cheers for watching :)
Gvien that most dvd and blu-ray players have options simmer what the CDTV, CDI, 3DO, Halcyon and LaserActive systems offered I can see why they failed. Since it was easy put this kind of stuff into something that poppole with no interest wound buy anyway and use it since they have it already their. This was partly why I yelled at my nintendo fan boy bro for buying me an Nintendo Wii and not an Sony PS3 as a gift. Blu-ray movie disks at the local blockbuster store was also why I wanted the PS3.
Awesome subject, awesome production values and obviously an awesome host (even if you are an Ozzie) 👏👏
Heh, are you from NZ by any chance?
Retro Game On Ah I'm not that cool unfortunately...I'm a filthy pom myself 🇬🇧
And no offence old chap, I'm just jealous of the Aussies' laid back style
rdi Hal see on.. not hal con. there are videos of the original creators of it talking about it and that is how they pronounce it.
One reason for not releasing it in Europe is the fact that PAL laser disks didnt have enough room on them for the data track. IIRC they used one of the digital audio channels for game data and due to increased resolution of PAL European disks had bigger video/audio areas than NTSC and could only have analogue audio or digital audio, but not both on the same disk. So you couldnt have sound if you wanted gamedata.
Interesting to know - thanks for sharing!
This thing is just so bizarre. Part of me loves it, but not enough to pay the asking price. I just can't grasp how they thought it was a good idea to charge MORE THAN A GENESIS AND SEGA CD COMBINED for the MD Pack. Same for the Turbografx! Like... what? Who wouldn't just go buy the dedicated gaming hardware? (No one, obviously.)
Most of the stuff you've covered here before, I've known what it is, but man, now I'm curious about this most expensive game console ever thing you mentioned...
Stay tuned - I haven't done a whole lot of research, but I did read that it may not have ever even seen retail. I'll see what I can come up with.
Great video. I appreciate the information. You mention in the video that the turbo PC engine pac is region free which was definitely part of the info I was looking for. I heard another youtuber claim that the sega pac is region free but I also heard that was a falsehood. I don't think you mentioned it at all in this video. My question is if I buy an American Laseractive Console can I use a Japanese PC engine pac?
I'm not actually sure. Sorry!
Any region PAC can be used in either JP or US LaserActive :)
The region issue is with the software.
Sega-CD games don’t work natively with mega-CD PAC and vice versa. However there are ways around this
Good video as always!
Did you know about the nuon?
Re the Nuon, Scott was also a net yaroze member
