Homeless Residents of Venice Facilities Removed: Restroom Dwellers Evacuated

- On August 18, 2023, the collaborative efforts of the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. converged to address homeless encampments at the Venice Beach Restrooms. In adherence to established protocols, workers donned white hazardous materials suits to ensure safety during the operation.
Recognizing the vital need for efficient coordination among multiple departments in managing homeless encampments, Councilwoman Traci Park's office took a proactive step by appointing a dedicated Homelessness and Housing Coordinator who was onsite during the cleanup.
The cleanup operation unfolded through the coordinated efforts of three distinct waste management teams, each assigned specific responsibilities. While the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Recreation and Parks teams donned yellow safety vests, the Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. team stood out in orange vests. The Clean Harbors team initiated the process by meticulously sorting through refuse to identify and segregate hazardous materials like batteries, syringes, and urine. Subsequently, Los Angeles Public Works and Recreation and Parks sanitation workers managed the collection of non-hazardous waste.
The support for the cleanup initiative was significantly bolstered by the active involvement of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and St. Joseph's Center homeless outreach team. These organizations played a critical role in providing essential outreach services to assist individuals experiencing homelessness and meet their fundamental needs. As part of their efforts, the homeless outreach team distributed food and water to those without homes throughout the cleanup operation.
To ensure the safety of all participants and secure cooperation from the homeless community, Los Angeles Park Rangers maintained a vigilant presence throughout the cleanup operation. The objective was not only to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards but also to ensure safety protocols.
Notably, despite the enforcement of Ordinance 41.18, which prohibits sitting, lying, or sleeping in public places, as well as storing, using, maintaining, or placing personal property in the public right-of-way, no citations were issued during the cleanup operation at the Venice homeless encampments.
Several unhoused individuals have been living in the restrooms for sometime at Venice Beach.
It's imperative to understand that while these cleanup initiatives, exemplified by the one at Venice Beach, are integral to the City of Los Angeles' larger efforts to address homelessness, they form just a part of the comprehensive strategy. Acknowledging that these actions do not represent a comprehensive solution, the city remains deeply committed to devising sustainable, long-term strategies that address the underlying causes of homelessness and provide vital resources to those in need.

Put them all on an island
I said the same thing
The problem is they will keep getting in the restrooms something different has to happen.
I wonder who supplies the bikes
Send them to Pelosi's house.
Is a wonderful idea 💡
"Good morning!". Why don't they serve them all a continental breakfast while they're at it?
I'm thinking more along the lines of ..."You have five minutes to vacate the property. You are in violation of City code.
If you use the public restrooms as a motel again, you will be cited or arrested."
German in Venice makes a cameo appearance!
4:47 Wow good eye! I totally missed that the first time I watched this
Knock knock "Housekeeping"
Same weekly "clean up" same cast of vagrants, same result. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
No. That is the definition of stupidity.
It would be more insane to follow the San-Francisco model & not do anything about homeless encampments & long-term vagrants on public property. Cities like LA are caught between a rock & hard place.
Good seeing the GIV in the background filming 🙌🏼
Need to wash everything down with a fire hose with disinfectant, top to bottom.
more like a flame thrower.
Such a rich, beautiful place, with such a sad tiny minority of problem people.
Drought
Just go in around 10pm, clear the restrooms and lock them for the night. Reopen at 6am. Too simple?
They'll break the locks.
They are re locking the doors though.
Nice to see GIV there.
I saw GIV, had to scroll down and see if anyone else noticed. Have to wait for German in Venice to post his video.
Thanks for your video. Almost the same people every week. Pretty sad. That old man needs a home. Glad I don't live in SM or Dogtown anymore..
Detox and military service. Those barnacles won't scrape themselves!
Wow this will never ends
Detox and military service. Those barnacles won't scrape themselves!
They are going to end up having to put a guard on each bathroom stool to make sure non of this keeps happening.
They need to put cameras up to see who is responsible for that graffiti
Why? What use would that do? You think the cops would actually arrest and prosecute the person? C'mon. They barely enforce vagrancy, as we can see.
Is a good idea 💡
Stop being so damn nice! Start yelling and get tough with them!😡
I hear what your saying, but to what end? Do these employees want to get into fights with these folks? Start drama that who knows where it goes? And do you think these folks are going to listen to word one what is said to them? Their job is to clear the restrooms, not to save these people.
Does not help, just would makes things more difficult and stressful to all involved. After work they can yell at a palm tree, that will listen closer, to relax and get it all out
Yeah lets get tough!! Tough as in 'war on drugs' tough??? How's that workin out?? The problem with America is selfishness. Selfishness of people living in a restroom so others can't use it & selfishness of gun owners in refusing to put aside their precious hobby for the sake of kids safety at school, and b4 u say that won't work, check what we did in Australia after 1 mass shooting in 1996. Why were Australians so disgusted with kids being massacred to hand in their guns but Americans are so selfish???
Well, it's a lot better than it was. The trouble is that they people just moved to the adjoining streets and they are now a mess.
Has to be like a sweatbox living in a restroom
Room Service is on its way to everyone ... LMAO
I don’t even want to imagine the smell..
It's that same old bearded guy every week. I wonder how he can afford that bike?
I wonder how he always comes out with a different woman every morning and sometimes two.
IT is likely stolen
That bike ain’t worth crap
And that’s why we can’t have nice things
Beachside condo water and electricity…. Rent free.
Santa Monica is missing the opportunity to charge rent ! 😂
Don, don't forget FREE WIFI too
At 15:22 I see good ole' "Bathroom Barry" is back. Boy! this is at least the 5th video he's in. He should be getting royalties for these performances.
Housekeeping!!
Sigh...another Friday
I know, huh?
And so starts another day in paradise.
Why not just pad lock the restrooms at night?
They'll cut the locks. How do you think they get their bicycles?
Because people are there all night every hour you have to be here to see it for yourself
Thank you Sidewalk Cafe
Do you ever see any one go in and clean the restrooms? Like the floors and toilets and put new toilet paper in? I have been watching for 8 months and I've never seen scrubbing them out.The homeless have bugs and carry other germs, C.M.
Jeremy thanks babe 😘
Hey German In LA, what's going on , Brother?
They should just say” Housekeepers “.. Who in their right mind would use those bathrooms.. Demolishing is needed!
This is nothing more than routine housekeeping for the “residents”.
I really think it's disgusting that these Rangers don't wear any type of gloves. Taxpayers pay their medical bills if they catch something nasty on the job. It's so arrogant not to do so. YUCK!! Glad to see the others protect themselves by wearing gloves. It makes a difference. That's why I don't shake people's hands and I bet they don't wash their hands after using the restroom :)))
There own choice not to wear them I see what your saying yet it’s there own choice.
I never noticed until you pointed it out. 🤢🤢 I use to come here every week with my dad 15 years ago, now you have to risk getting stabbed or catching something just to use the bathroom.
I think it's a disgrace they're not allowed to carry firearms, Peace officers without guns. What a joke Cali is.
they are not doing the cleaning
Then you go clean the bathrooms 😂😂 or shut up
Probably don’t see a lot of this in Singapore.
I guess the designers of these rest rooms didn't expect this complication.
The old-fashioned design with one entry/exit, stalls in a row, and sinks along the wall would prevent the "Invasion of the Homeless".
German in Venice is there awesome ...
Have they ever opened one of those doors to a murder scene?
The same trash just keep rolling back right in
Professional homeless professional patient.tones a professional menace.
Boy....
Well, them Potamac boys don't play about me neither
Yikes again and again repeated cycle with the homeless hanging out in the nasty restrooms it never ends.
Where is crazy Daisy at ?
@jupiterrising1 WOW !!!
They should check-up.on the stooles every week.
LA COUNTY VALET SANITATION HOMELESS CLEAN UP SERVICE ,HOW NICE
Wow. So these facilities need to be the size of an airplane toilet, so it doesn't become an apartment...Unbelievable...
Throw those addicts in prison, or detox and military service. Those barnacles won't scrape themselves!
We have a lock system in our parks that unlocks the door at daybreak and locks them at dusk. This is a huuuuge social problem that we are going to have to address. Especially in California, although you can see the problem in every city from Portland to Seattle and all across the US. Before getting upity about gloves, just know that they deal with this every day. I am sure they are careful. It is a nasty job that not many people want to do. When they are handling #5 buckets and what looks like apple juice, please know that is human waste. It is not nice. I am grateful that they are doing this. Tax dollars have paid for these public areas so it should be safe for kids and citizens of t(e community. I get that this doesn’t answer the problem for the homeless.
Any ideas?
Locked before
lock the bathrooms up at 10pm, also the room is way too big. Ya just need a toilet no other space to pull bikes and carts and bedding in there.
giv sighting 🤣❤
I wouldn't use these ever. Talk about sitting in thick bacteria. 🤢🤢🤮🤮
Jessie James Klinesmith
Wouldn't it be cheap to lock them of a evening
that prayer written on the Door as seen in 13:58 , that reminds me the story behind that song "welcome to hotel california". was it a love couple who wrote that on the wall in that hotel or the young man alone who was in so much love with a girl, there is a tragic story about it, he committed suicide or they both comitted suicide. do you really believe homeless people who believe in the LORD, love and peace deserve to be ousted everywhere ?
GIV
Reese 😢 sway asf
They're clapping cheeks in there
don't be so jealous, you can have next!
