- Venice, Los Angeles - April 3, 2024: On Wednesday, a tiny home located on the 700 block of Marr Street in Venice, belonging to an individual experiencing homelessness, was demolished. The resident of the tiny home was absent during the operation.
This action is part of a coordinated initiative by the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., underlining the city's dedicated efforts to address homelessness while maintaining high standards of public cleanliness and health.
Adhering to strict safety protocols, workers donned in white hazardous materials suits undertook the cleanup operation. Community members were informed 48 hours in advance through distributed notices about the operation, urging the removal of personal belongings from the area. These notices highlighted that items left unclaimed would be collected by city personnel.
The operation represented a joint effort between the Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., with personnel identifiable in yellow and orange vests, respectively. Their primary task was to differentiate and properly dispose of hazardous from non-hazardous waste, ensuring a comprehensive cleanup.
Significant support was provided by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), which played a crucial role in delivering outreach services to the homeless community in preparation for the cleanup.
The successful execution of this initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various city departments, spearheaded by Councilwoman Traci Park's Housing Liaison Coordinator and the dedicated participation of the homeless encampment task force.
Throughout the operation, Los Angeles Police Officers were on-site to ensure compliance and safeguard the sanitation workers, emphasizing the operation's commitment to security and orderly conduct.'

The American flag is not as respectable these days because the only time its seen flown is at MAGA related events.
That’s tells you all you need to know about California!! I agree absolutely disgraceful for it to go in the garbage but unfortunately the mass majority feel that way I’m that state!! The sickness in our society is shameful. My Grandfather, Uncles, and friends fought for that flag. Two were injured at Pearl Harbor. Disgraceful that not one of them saved that beautiful American Flag. Born and raised in Portland Oregon and am moving to TN. This place is godless and continues to decline rapidly. Governor just signed bill to recriminalize drugs. Let that one sink in. We have to make a law to criminalize drugs! We have so many homeless on fentanyl now and they can get anything they want. Pot dispensaries every other block. Very sad .

There some people that collect newspapers or trinkets & have them stacked to the ceiling, but they’ve established paths & know where everything is.
Meanwhile others have piles of 20 year old clothes & animal feces piled all over the place that you’re literally forced to walk in it to get from one doorway to another. And the toilets been broken & full of brown water for 5 years.

It's nice to know that out of the forty or so City workers, people from the different homeless organizations, and LAPD present today, not one held their hand up to stop the loader operator so someone could take the American Flag out of the trash. The Homeless person living on the street in the building that they tore down had more respect for our flag than anyone else standing there with their hands in their pockets. Pretty sad.

It is a sad an unfair situation... The reason why it appears that immigrants are getting hand outs it's because the immigrants coming into this country are usually in their 20's and 30's and they will be working the many jobs that Americans will not do thus keeping the engine running if you will. Many homeless people have jobs. You can't dump them in the middle of nowhere. There aren't any banks, hospitals, stores and many have therapy appointments. I worked 2 years as a homeless case manager. 2/3'rds of these people have a real life. They just can't afford housing. They're just trying to survive.

I was homeless one summer. Had a garbage bag full of clean clothes in back seat, bag of dirty in the trunk and blanket, pillow and small cooler in front. Never thought of getting this much shit out of the dump and messing with it.

I spoke to three homeless people in Tennessee. None of them were receiving services because they had no birth certificate and no ID of any kind. None of them was motivated to find out what they needed to do to get these things. They were content living on the streets with no responsibility and happy they weren’t paying taxes. Not kidding.
And just like that, The American Flag, thrown away, be it on a shack or mansion, The American Dream is officially dead. RIP 🇺🇸

The flag should have been folded a fire made the size of the flag everybody says pledge of allegiance as flag burns. The last place you ever want to see our flag is in the trash that is the lowest point for the flag to be. Shocking how all of these cops and city desk jockeys and pencil pushers would let the flag be handled in the lowest form. In some places that would have caused possibly more problems than the guys home being destroyed. And now it will be quickly brushed off as another homeless headache gone but I will not sleep good tonight. I am a Veteran and have rescued 3 flags just like that one however I explained to the people how you should dispose of the flag properly. Those cops and any government workers who were present should make a public apology and try to find a better way of cleaning the streets of known people who are not a problem makes me sick how so many cops just do not get what the flag represents for them. If you did not have that flag you would not be getting paid money watching a bunch of grown men acting like they just saved the world.

In my town, which is in a blue state, you may need--depending on the situation--a health permit, a building permit, a zoning permit, and maybe a wet-land's permit---whew!
