I think you're the first person to say the R3 is ugly... honestly I'm glad that its gonna take a few years to get to market because I think the R3 is going to be my first electric vehicle.
different strokes for different folks. We need options for everyone so me thinking it's ugly doesn't matter as long as others really like it.
@@BeardedTeslaGuyTrue. I think Tesla Model Y is kinda ugly.Still great car.
@@Hoodiismexactly, like a bloated Model 3 and its proportions and lines aren't attractive at all in my view
For those of us (car guys/gals) that grew up with hot hatches in the 80's and 90's, this brings back memories of the Lancia Delta Integrale and Audi Quattros. There is a reason they snuck a shot of the R3X drifting thru a corner in the promo video. I really wish they would bring the R3/R3X out before the R2, but I understand the business reasons of why. I'd argue that the Europeans and Asian markets are going to gobble the R3s up, more so than the R2, though. But when it does end up in my driveway, I'm going to have a row of rally lights up front of my R3X and call it a day. Rivian understands design for their particular product/culture, and nails it better than the majority. Example - Rivian's Treehouse roof tent is sick. Way nicer looking than anything else available.
@@HoodiismIt not ugly, it's just boring
R3 is beautiful. Perfect size and shape for a city vehicle with a significant amount of ground clearance. Perfect electric rally car.
I fully believe they will move that charge port to the driver side rear before it actually gets built
You out your mind about the r3 😅
R3 looks like Plymouth Horizon/Dodge Omni. My wife said she really likes it, not suprising, she used to own a Horizon. But this is way better for sure.
So I heard the reason the charge port is on the right side is because of street parallel parking charging
Yea I heard this too but seems kind of silly. Has there been a lot of charging built out already for that?
@@whowutwut Yes.... In Europe. This will probably be Tesla's 1st 'International Vehicle'.
@@chrispnw2547 you mean Rivian 1st international vehicle? But NACS is North American charging standard… the rest of the world is using CCS. IS the charge port door here big enough fit CCS plug behind it
@@whowutwut RJ stated the NACS standard will be the default on the R2 and an adapter will be available for customers to charge using CCS.
Mr. Musk wants the NACS standard to be adopted globally
Yes, the R2 was designed to be sold in world markets
meh, that's not a thing in the US. Most charging is done at home, and the driver is the one who plugs the car in 99.999% of the time.
As a model 3 and x owner. I love R2 and reserved one. I think the R2 will be the ev of the year in 2026. I can’t wait to lift it with after market coilovers or springs.
If you’re reversing it’s on the right side😊 and the market for this will have street parking and charging.
I’m not crazy about the way the R3 looks either but the European’s will love it!
Charge port on the right side makes way more sense if you have to park parallel on the street and charge. Tesla will have to make their cables longer anyways if they’re going to allow so many other vehicles on their network.
I really like Rivian and want to see them succeed. To do that, they need to make a profit. Hopefully the R2 helps them do that … but it is 2 years away. The R3 looks like the Honda E concept 😉
The chargeport was likely designed before change to NACS, and this may be changed prior to production. Ports on both sides (like Renault 5) would be a great feature
I believe RJ said the charge port is on the rear passenger side, so us existing R1 owners can use our at home chargers by backing in as the R1 charge port is on the front driver side.
Charge port is not on the wrong side. It's on the correct side for rivian. Things don't need to be according to Tesla super chargers. Currently they have it on the driver side front. So if rivian customers purchase R2, all the charger location at home is convenient. For example, if you were parking your R1S facing front, now all you have to back up and charger location doesn't need to be changed.
I think they moved it in the back to save some money since R2 comes in rear wheel drive too. That's what they don't have to bring heavy cables from the front to back .
I better never see you charge any non Tesla EV at a Tesla supercharger! 😂
@@tonymunoz7400 I will try to avoid as much as I can as my EV6 doesn't charge that fast on Tesla supercharger. It's chargers like a beast on EA and EVGO chargers
It is objectively on the wrong side. Who charges the vehicle 99.9999% of the time? The driver.
R1 has the charge port on the front left. Makes sense to have it right rear on R2 to use RAN. Why use Tesla network with higher costs unless you have to
RJ explained in an interview, the port on the passenger side is an engineering choice, due to how the batteries are positioned to where the highest power load is for charging.
Also, aren’t the cables long enough to reach?
Will the supercharger cable reach?
Ventilated seats? Ambient lighting? Adaptive suspension? Dual paned windows?
What about clearing rain and snow with the rear moving window minus wiper?
Being in the rear, reversing into the charging position puts the charge port in the right spot.
I think Rivian accelerated their unveiling so that they could get a buzz going and increase interest in what they currently sell to get rid of their inventory and move sales! I think this because announcing a 2026 release date seems a bit premature to announce now. IMO.
Love the R3 look and functionality!
Really liking the R2. Will probably trade in my MYP.
It's the R2 day. I like the R3 better.
Then you like ladyboys too. 😂😂😂
Rivian have their own charging stations too
Good video, but I think the R3 looks great. Especially the X.
R3 will be a game changer,, also could provide a great presence in Europe where smaller vehicles are preferred
I wonder if the charge port is aimed at on street charging or something so it's easily accessible when parked or they are assuming that by 2026 most chargers will be v4
LOVE the look of the R3; I'd choose this over the R2.
Def can be viewed through the ugly or beautiful lense. I like the quirkiness of it - also, should be an exercise in packaging efficiency of an ev w extra storage space. Excited for both R2 and R3
Totally with you on the position of the J 3400 charging port, however it’s still very early in the design game so they could easily change it. I’m sure to have it on the driver side rear.
Love the R2.. Pre Ordered it yesterday. They definitely need to change the location of the charge port. Other than that, it's a home run vehicle. If the price stays the same, it'll be huge. If the tri motor can sell for 55k, it will be a game changer. But I have a feeling it'll be closer to 60-65k .. which would suck.. I'd rather get an R1 for a little bit more.
If the charger is on the passenger side it would be great for street parking charging. If they had chargers built like (or into) parking meters
Good analysis about how it compares to the Model Y. If that vehicle was selling today, the R2 is way a better option, but during the next 2 years, the Model Y will get its refresh, and most probably, the 4680 cells will improve. If Tesla doesn't increase the price too much, the Model Y will be a better option.
seeing Model 3's facelift, there's really not much changes except they removed the gear shifter.
so don't expect anything drastic with model Y's facelift. It'll be 90% the same.
Any mention of TOWING CAPABILITIES??
I didn't hear any. I'd assume we will likely see the standard 3,500 lbs.
Thanks for the reply! iJustine video he spoke about R2 towing and said it would be class comparable :)@@BeardedTeslaGuy
Reserved the R2. Probably will trade in my MYP
R2 reserved. I really like the look of the R3, but I need a slightly bigger vehicle. The R3X does nothing for me because I'm not into the rally stuff, but I think it's going to sell like hotcakes, especially in Europe.
You say a Gremlin I think it looks like the old Volkswagen Rabbit 😂😂
Agree on the charging port being on the wrong side. I see other comments that disagree, but as a Tesla supercharger user I hope someone figures out a solution. Don't see much street charging (at least in NC).
It's a really compelling alternative to the MY, it's just a shame that it's 2 years out and we have so little detail on specs and features. I'm in full agreement on the R3 wayyy to 80's honda for my taste I can't believe so many reviewers like it. Something to note, since it is larger than the MY in various dimensions, it'll likely be less efficient in aero and thus require a larger battery.
I think the R3 is great but I think it’s tailored for European roads/market
It’s personal choice but I like the look and the seat height of the R2 better than the model Y. The model Y looks so eerily the same as a model 3 and the jelly bean shape sucks in my opinion
I think it looks like a Range Rover!
I absolutely love the R2. I think the size and scale and proportions are perfect. It looks great. I’m not a Model Y fan at all. Aesthetically, both inside and out, R2 is everything the Model Y isn’t. The R3/R3X, however, do absolutely nothing for me. I agree that it’s not attractive.
Rear wheel drive base will have 260 miles, not 300+
R3 looks like a big fiat panda
Wow, cannot agree with you on the R3, I like the R3 a lot. Perfect size and proportions but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But 2 plus years is a long time.
I reserved an r2 hopefully they can change the charge port to the drivers side in 2 years.
R3 is not ugly….the model X is a rolling blob.
The charge port is on the correct side for street charging. Tesla got it wrong.
Lol! Every household is different, meaning not everyone charges on the street guy! 😂
TESLA FTW!!! 🔥
Plz someone tell RJ to move charging port to other side. It’s makes for costumer easy. 😊🎉
Assuming that Tesla will raise their prices on the upcoming refreshed Model Y, the R2, at least in price will be very appealing to cross shop. It possibly might have far more features for the money (and with stalks included on the steering wheel). Rivian, however, hasn't been that good with quality control - but it's owners have given the company's products top notch ratings. I noted that Rivian has adopted the new Tesla charge connector BUT it is on the wrong side, on the passenger rear side - I can't understand why they purposely flaunted the Tesla standard.
R2 range at 300 is good for 2 years in the future as most competitors' real world range is around 250/270 currently. I dont think range will jump much in the interim. We all know Tesla rated ranges are almost impossible in real world while other manufacturers' epa ratings are much closer to reality.
The form factor does it for me, Model Y fastback design leaves out the practicality of the square back that the R2 has. I will never again own frameless windows if i can help it. The roll down rear window is a great touch.
The Rivian interior is more premium than the Tesla interior. My 3 interior is ok with soft touch stitched materials but Rivian is on another level.
If Rivian can catch up Ui and reliability wise while expanding their service locations, this is a true competitor to the Y.
Why did rivian put charging door on passenger side? Maybe because they arent trying to conform to teslas supercharging network..... They are going all in on their own charging network, tesla is just exists to augment their own
You are out of your mind. Lol. The R3 will be a huge seller, assuming prices are within line. By the way, I think non-Teslas will only be using V3 and V4 chargers, so maybe Tesla plans for longer cables on those versions.
The R3 looks like a Vw rabbit / gulf
I know everyone is about the charging port, but if Tesla put it on the passenger side, it wouldn’t have mattered. There are more charging places other than superchargers and this is safer if you find or have on street parking as the right side (US) is away from traffic . It’s really not that big of a deal
well, as of summer last year, Tesla accounted for 63% of all DC fast chargers in the US...dont confuse number of brands with volume of chargers...
@@BeardedTeslaGuy oh for sure! But there are also chargers for those who just need to shop or go to entertainment places that only charge at low rate. Should cell phone makers change to the lightening connector that Apple makes if they made it better that USB-C? If the market dictates that it’s very important, then they will change. But saying that a charge port is on the wrong side based off of another company is slightly flawed, and pretty group think philosophy
@@BeardedTeslaGuy per EV news daily:” it’s kind of insulting to think all companies have to do what one company does. RJ Scaringe has said it is cheaper to put the charger on the right to save cabling costs, and that the R2 is a world car. Most countries are compact and have on street charging “
They both look great. I own a ioniq 5 and love it but these rivian will definitely take some market share from Tesla
The R3 looks amazingly similar to an 80’s VW Rabbit GTI. Gremlin not so much.
At this point I'm comparing all EV's to the Tesla CT and MY. Yes, two completely different platforms I agree. I was hoping for a much better ability to camp with the CT than what is being delivered. The R2 has blown Tesla away with the interior vs the current CT. The ability to comfortably sleep inside is the top reason I went with the MY and I have been beyond aggravated that Tesla didn't seem to care about vehicle camping in the CT. Based on current configuration, there's no room to sleep in the CT! Are you kidding me Tesla? There will be so many EV customers that will choose Rivian based upon ability to sleep inside the cab.
R2 & R3 looks good. It'll sell. The end of ICE era is getting closer and closer.
the rivian models all look like clones of each other but with dimensional differences. which teslas also does with their vehicles other than cybertruck. I think byd has more design variation. that in itself could cause them to take the usa by storm when they start selling here
The conflicting light bar and oval headlights make it look bad in the front.
I like the Rivian a whole lot, especially because it's so much like a Tesla. The screen, structural batteries, software, self driving...
I like Rivian as it has a special feature not seen on any Tesla -to-date. NO ELON MUSK
Rivian R3 coming soon..........early 2030 😂
Now I can’t get the gremlin comparison out of my head.
Come on 2026 😢😢😢
Saw a cyber truck for the first time in real life today. Super unnatural. Didn’t make me feel good
The R2 would be a great car in 2024. But 2026? I don't think so.
R3=Lada Niva 4x4. Just sayin.
Tesla is going to have to step up their fit, finish, and quality now. I like Tesla, but there are plenty more EV's in the game now with better fit, finish and better build quality. Doesn't matter if I'm spending 45k or 90k ,for a vehicle I shouldn't have to just accept bad panel gaps and poor quality boring interior, just because it's Tesla and thats what they do. Yes Tesla is ahead with Tech, and Rivian is a different class of vehicle if you are comparing the two brands. Now if they could get together and collaborate on vehicles, just imagine how amazing that vehicle could be! And the fact you have to wait 2 years for the R2 shouldn't be an issue, look now long people waited for Cybertruck!! Be open minded. If you get stuck in Tesla ecosystem you'll be missing out.
Rivian will stand close to tesla
They got a hell of a long way to go to get where Tesla is today let alone keep up!
@jezza6575 thats why i stand close
R3 is better!
Then you must a santos lover too. 😂😂😂
@@WinnersMind67 I don’t get it. What is santos?
And their CEO is Steve-O, really wanna switch to this when it comes out
Yep getting the r2 buy tesla
R3 is ugly in all the right ways. With I could buy the r3x yesterday
Yea the r3 is ugly but the R2! Chef's kiss
They are both beautiful. I like the R3
Only trans like hatchbacks. 😂😂😂
@@WinnersMind67
Bruh 😂😂😂
I’m not trans and I love hatchbacks
@@dannyboystartronicalpizzaw9692real
I can't overstate how disappointed I am that they didn't show an R2T... Huge bummer. I have zero interest in anything they showed today. I just want a freaking electric pickup that goes 300 miles for $45k...
The R3 looks like a Yugo from the 80’s.. ugly then and still ugly today.
Rivian is closer to bankruptcy than any other automaker. Good luck
I think Lucid will die first but Rivian is not far behind. The R3 should have been released a year ago to keep them afloat.
They will NEVER go bankrupt. Bezos is to invested. He would easily... easily toss RJ another 5-6 billion until things turn green.
R3 looks ugly and reminds me like the old LADA russian SUV. Rivian will need to get bought out by apple to make it.
They are loosing so much money.
