We have a short coming out on this but it is primarily to highlight this guide. This is something we may be able to dive further into in a future video. The process is near identical with the main difference using a shim under the rotary to make the area you will be engraving on the tumbler parallel to the laser head. Also, Mr. Clean style sponges really help with cleaning up anything leftover from the engraving.

If the object is rotating to much it sounds like your mm per rotation is not set correctly. xTool has released a few versions of their rotary as well as multiple machine revisions. xTool should be able to provide you with the value if you give them your machine/rotary version.
When testing (from within the Rotary Setup dialog), my rollers are doing ~11 rotations, instead of one. Double-checked variables in the window, and it's still happening. Any thoughts on what might be causing that?
@@CaseyDwyer Casey were you able to fix it? I have a similar problem. The unit runs more than one rotation when testing. I Tried to engrave an image and the rotary unit showed the image to be much larger than what LighBurn reads!
1. Does the roller diameter value change depending on the object you're are engraving? For instance, a tumbler is bigger than the dowel rod in the example and I would space the rollers further apart. 2. Is the Z axis used for Atomstack R1 rotary device too? Great videos by the way!
The instructions in the video are correct for the hardware shown in the video. If you are using a different version of the rotary, machine, or their RA2 version then you will need to use the settings for that specific rotary.

do you know what settings to use in lightburn if one is engraving multiple mugs to have the same template, the same position of the rotary, for the laser to go to the same spot everytime? for some reason, I will use the same everything and repositing the laser to the back left (my origin) and it will always be a little off when doing the same design file on a tumbler. i can't figure it out.. my Chinese laser doesn't give me that issue at all. i have tried all the different "start from" positions and it's so inaccurate when I try to engrave the same thing twice. i don't know what I'm doing wrong.
With a roller rotary like this one, it’s not simple - the best way is to cut a piece of wood or plastic to fit over the smaller end to make it the same size as the larger end. Some roller rotaries use two sets of wheels - one pair to drive the object, and another pair just to support the other end. Those work better for tapered objects.
It looks like it is a fairly proprietary system that uses some form of galvo. Currently, I do not believe it will be possible. If it does take standard gcode it is possible that once LightBurn Galvo is released that it could work. There is some chatter in our forums about it but it does not look like anyone has reported it as working.

If the laser is working fine when not using the rotary, I would confirm you have the focal distance set correctly and that the speed/power is adequate for the material on the tumbler. With diode lasers you are typically not engraving on the tumbler but removing the paint coated and exposing the metal underneath.
Hello. Just received the new RA2 Pro rotary which has a chuck attachment besides the rollers. Do I need to change Rotary Type to Chuck in the rotary setup when I am using the chuck attachment? Thanks
We have not played around with a hybrid rotary system like that one. You can of course experiment but to follow our rotary setup window and documentation I would lean towards switching to the chuck setting when using the chuck mode.
This will be unique to each laser. A good place to start typically is with the manufacturers settings. If you are not able to find that then a comparable laser (same output) would be the next best option. For less common materials, you will want to run material tests to see what combination of speed and power gives you the best results. In LightBurn under Laser Tools --> Material Tests will allow you to generate a test grid.
It is just a nema 17 motor so this should be possible. However, it will more than certainly void a warranty so make sure you triple check wiring if you do decide to proceed with the DIY route.

Did you try it in their LaserBox program to make sure the hardware is working correctly? That would be the first thing I would verify. If the hardware is working correctly then contact our support: support@lightburnsoftware.com

Hi could you give me some assistance Please? I followed your instruction on setting up the rotary unit in lightburn (I have a D1) When I try to frame, the unit rotates to a much larger diameter. I need it to go back and lower the rotation from 360 to the actual size of my image, otherwise, the frame kept showing a much larger area. When I start engraving a kept getting an error 'cut may be out of bounce due to an overscan setting'
Are you using the same rotary pictured in the video or the newer one they released? If the unit is rotating to a larger diameter then the steps per mm value is off or roller diameter. The step value is not related to the size of the image. Cut may be out of bounds does not necessarily mean that it is. That warning also shows in the video when I start the engraving. Been using this without issue and doing seamless 360 degree designs on water bottles. No with the new firmware update, it’s rotating 13.5 times when framing and 2.5 times when hitting test. Seems like others are having the same issue.

I was having a very similar issue where it was rotating 12 times. So what I did was divide the 360 by 12, got 30, which almost made it perfect. Gave me about 4/5 of a rotation. It ended up being that if I changed it from 360 to 33 seemed to fix the issue. Really weird but it worked.
Are you using the D1 or D1 pro? Make sure you have installed the correct firmware. Early D1 versions where not LB compatible. Also check that you have installed the needed driver, machine is powered on, no other software is open that may be using the USB port, and that the USB cable is functioning properly.
mm per rotation is 370.....hmmm that seems awful large. Is there a way to calibrate this to insure it is correct.

I often see LightBurn Software folks using xTool D1 in these videos. So is this the laser of choice or due to overall popularity?

There at the end you showed a non-cylindrical tumbler, by which I mean different diameter from top to bottom. How do you set it up to roll properly?

That’s what I suspected. Maybe a wooden ring or a large rubber o-ring that brings the base to the same diameter as the wide spot…

So I got the new rotary and it says 128 mm rotation but mine is not rotating ! Idk what I’m doing wrong . I have 128mm/17

@@teslal.davidson8222 yeah it doest make sense but I've done thin stick and needed 33 I do tumblers and use 1440 and for some reason it works.
