As the skipper of 885/12 I can tell him that he is in for a real treat when he takes delivery. We picked our boat up Mid November '23 and sailed pretty much straight across the Atlantic. We have now passed into the Pacific with the Oyster World Rally fleet and head to the Galapagos islands in the next few days. The boat is strong and powerful and delivers us across oceans in comfort. Welcome to the Oyster family it is a real experience.
I was and am literally going to say the same thing. Although Adrian works for a rival team to mine, I respect him enormously, he throughly deserves the best in life. Such a humble man.
Wow. Brilliant to see a British company producing something world class from a Guy at the very top of his profession. Such an interesting watch. Sounds an amazing first trip!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Adrian Newey works for a rival team to one that I support. However, I respect him hugely and think he deserves all the best things in life. He's worked his nuts off, generated wealth for those around him and all by doing something he genuinely loves. I brought his book (recommended), he's such a genuinely nice man. Enjoy your boat Adrian. Respect to you.
Good Luck Adrian! May you have fair winds and following seas. As a Formula One fan and lifelong sailor, I'm glad to see you enjoying the natural power of wind - even though your boat is bigger than mine! The process at oyster sounds lovely and supportive of your new intention to enjoy time on the water.
Fab looking craftmanship, would love to see it in the flesh, laughed when he calls himself a "numpty " 😅 id imagine no matter what you turned your hand to you would be anything but a numpty Mr Newey. Best of luck with it and all who sail in it.
Very interesting, didn't know Oyster would do a hard top bimini for you. Whilst Adrian Newy has clealy been more involved and tinkering with the design than some other owners might be you can tell that he's used to taking advice from experts onboard and using it to make decisions. Wish I could come wiht him to the Amalfi coast :-)!
As much as I dislike ''Red Bull Racing'', I have the utmost respect for this gentleman from is great stint with ''Williams Racing'' to today; everywhere he's been working is magic, he left a trail of winning championships. I wish him the best sailing trips around the globe and hope that he docks is ''Oyster 885 hull14'' in Italy someday, very very close to the ''Ferrari Scuderia''...I'm positive that would be amazing for ''Ferrari'' and ''F1''. Best wishes to you Sir from Canada.
Adrian Newey's departure into the sunset caps a remarkable career, particularly highlighted by the last three years of groundbreaking achievements with the Red Bull F1 team after such a dominant Mercedes era.
This will be perfect to live on on Mediterranean when he moves to Italy in 2025. Plus free servicing for that 1958 Ferrari 250 tdf he turned up in to the factory.... :)
I am impressed that he is doing this. It is not easy getting into this pastime later in life. There is a lot to learn. I speak as one who has done this with the benefit of having spent my youth racing dinghies at quite a high level. Cruising yachts with your family is difficult!
Fascinating insight! Thank you Oyster. Sure Adrian is probably going to be blaming Eddie for this at some point, I think he got everyone in the paddock looking at Oysters! The 885 in the video, Lush, is Eddie's boat in any case I seem to recall!!!
As a life long F1 fan and sailor I wish Adrian well in this venture. He will have to slow down half way across the Pacific from his normal daily life. I am very envious as I look forward to a new season on my ageing Contessa. Comfort? What is comfort? 😀
What an absolute marvel! A top class sailing yacht is the perfect melding of when artistry means engineering. The technology combined with the finish work really makes this seem like a bargain in the grand scheme of things nowadays, even considering it's immense price.
This is a perfectly natural progression. A lot of guys who like fast stuff also love sailing. I've only sailed little boats but man, it's a lot of fun. Big boats like Adrian Newey's beast would be something other. There's a shitload of area on those sails. It would really MOVE. Sometimes there's too much wind, then it's a problem. I wouldn't know how to deal with that, beyond taking down the sails, stowing them and turning the boat into the wind.
Enjoy your yacht, Adrian. Leisure sailing is a wonderfully calming experience, although an 88’ boat! That’s bigger than the one I sailed across the pacific…
Gosh…. Well that was a surprise. I would have thought Adrian’s first port of call would have been Spirit Yachts in Ipswich with a Spirit 111. Maybe that’s more of a sailer than a cruiser?
very cool video, for Adrian to be satisfied and impressed after going through the entire process speaks volumes for the company as a whole (he by nature is probably the toughest client anyone could ever have). BTW met up with the Oyster round the world rally in Fakarava FP for dinner just by coincidence in 2017 and to a person, all lovely people
He should look at Royal Huisman Yachts, that is the top. But even he might not be able to afford. Anyway great to see sailing and F1 team up, my 2 favorite interests.
885?! Boy, talk about going in at the big end. That is a BIG boat to fit into a lot of the nicer smaller places you might want to visit. Wonderful boat, build and craftsmanship, but I wonder if down the road he’ll consider it too large, unless he really does want to stick to transoceanic passages
Can’t imagine having to be the PM for Adrian Newey, he must have been way more involved than most customers. That could be interesting though also taxing.
Matthew has done an incredible job and they have a fantastic relationship. It has been a great learning process for us all as everyone involved has shared their bespoke knowledge and expertise, and allowed others to learn from them too.
we all e[xpected Adrian to apply his F1 magic to the poyster yacht designs following the heals of thelaunch of The New Patriot: AC75 Americas Yacht Challenge this year ? Perhaps oyster will have a racing hull quite soon ?
Wish I could afford an Oyster. Doing a Great Lakes tour, on my way out to the Atlantic. Plans to circumnavigate the world as well. Need something strong to go around the Horn and Drake's Passage. Maybe someday!
When I was kid I was Williams fan, then as a teen I was a McLaren fan, as a young adult I was a Red Bull fan. I never realized what linked all those teams until my wife pointed it out. So I'm at that age now I might start looking into boats who knows...
The propellers that can either propel or reverse-cycle generate power are what I'd want on a sail boat to generate power. Solar is neat, but it's hard to have enough surface area to do much with them.
With no sailing experience and jumping in the deep end like this , I’m sure sailing along with family and friends , 33deg lean angle, going to be very interesting :)
@12.21 I chucked when he said about advise to give someone. He for to say that you need 5 mill in the bank to start with😅. What a gorgeous yacht. I wonder if he’ll get qualified with a day skipper to just employ someone to be the helm.
Great video, absolutely loved watching the excitement on Adrian’s face. Standards will have to be high for this client, but I’m sure they are the same for every client. Great job guys
Wonderful boat. What are the crewing plans? Having sailed about 90,000nm mainly in a Swan… it used to be that the safe limit of 2-handed sailing was about 50ft (provided you have a LOT of experience). Why? Because in heavy conditions crew stamina matters and has to be able to manage the failure of systems - and over 50ft the weights and loads are beyond the ability of 2 strong crew. These days hydraulic and powered systems can help, and if the boat’s new (reliable) maybe 58ft (the consensus these days). But even then it can lull one into a false sense of security - until a squall hits in confined waters and a winch jams. Good sailing Adrian, and I hope you’ve got good crew lined up. After all, this is like a club rally driver buying a F1 car?
Hope Adrian can hire a professional crew & several mechanics to handle the "cruise". This is a dreamboat for those who've not encountered the reality of blue water sailing.
Fascinating video… thanks for sharing. No wonder Adrian has had enough of all the recent nonsense at Red Bull and just wants to get some peace, sail his Oyster before turning up at Ferrari… Is he having the Oyster painted red by chance?
Seems like a double edged sword building any end product to be used by AN. Technical conversations are to be straightforward and quick. Quality control i'd imagine to be bat shit crazy 😅
Congratulations Adrian on your grand yacht. Even if we have very different perspectives on sailing yachts, I am not at all surprised that a race car genius sees the beauty of a sailing yacht, thank you Adrian, I've been arguing the coexisting fascinations between true sailing and formula 1. for years. Best regards from Jarle.
I was just about to say that. Endless nights by the drawing board, simulators and the stress of the race weekend versus sailing the seven seas in this beauty... Hmmm, let me think..
The man who can see air. What a legend.
@SavageDiarrhea2447 In his own words, he cannot see air, he can merely imagine airflow to a ridiculously accurate level...
the real last airbender
What a beautiful description!
Bro is avatar 😂
As the skipper of 885/12 I can tell him that he is in for a real treat when he takes delivery. We picked our boat up Mid November '23 and sailed pretty much straight across the Atlantic. Enjoying your updates. What an adventure !!
He is so quiet and humble in this video if only more people were like him
More people are like him.
I am delighted for him. He absolutely deserves it 100%. I hope he has many years sailing on his new ship.
I was and am literally going to say the same thing. Although Adrian works for a rival team to mine, I respect him enormously, he throughly deserves the best in life. Such a humble man.
Fantastic to see Adrian thinking of enjoying himself and putting himself first from such a busy life, I wish him well on his journeys, god speed.
Wow. Brilliant to see a British company producing something world class from a Guy at the very top of his profession. Such an interesting watch. Sounds an amazing first trip!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you, Sean - we are glad that you enjoyed it.
This is the most Adrian Newey thing
doesnt know anything aobut sailing and buys the flagship model straight away what a legend
Maybe because his friend and manager Eddie Jordan owns an Oyster yacht. Jordan sails a lot and owned a few other yachts before.
But he knows why it sails.....
But he knows air than no other so this must be a gigantic advantage for sailing
Adrian is a fascinating man and honestly comes across as just a generally inquisitive person. Glad to see him living his dream!
Gained a ton of respect for Adrian as a lifelong sailor and almost lifelong f1 fan I love seeing my two passions come together
great man and nice ferrari too...this is a sign that retirement is near and it is time to enjoy that wonderful yacht
or he's on his way to ferrari....
I like this personality. I love the fact that he doesn't bother to iron his shirt, probably because it's not efficient.
This is a linen shirt.
It’s a linen shirt. It’s suposed to look like this. They even look like this wearing them minutes afrer ironing.
Linen can and should be ironed.
I like the way he wears the same shirt all the time 😂
Who's bothered how his shirt looks
Unexpected crossover of some of my favourite things
As a former pro sailor and a HUGE fan of F1 it is fantastic to see what is surely a perfect match. Enjoy Adrian!
How fantastic, a real treat for you Adrian. Fascinating to see the build from a F1 engineer to a boat engineer’s perspective.
Fab looking craftmanship, would love to see it in the flesh, laughed when he calls himself a "numpty " 😅 id imagine no matter what you turned your hand to you would be anything but a numpty Mr Newey. Best of luck with it and all who sail in it.
I am happy to see oyster come back from it's issues, they are such beautiful yachts.
Extremely impressive.
What a great client, well done! And best wishes to Mr Newey for many years of enjoyment on his magnificent new boat.
Thank you very much, we are really looking forward to following his future sailing plans.
Great timing with red bull coming to an end
No mystery why he decided to leave F1. Fair winds and following seas Mr. Newey. All the best!
Beautifully made film (and yacht) . I hope Adrian finds the time to enjoy the boat.
What a nice guy Adrian Newey is,and what a fantastic boat, hope we are going to see more of Adrian learning to be a Captain.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Greek islands Adrian! 👏
What a wonderful experience for Adrian but also a wonderful video for us. Thanks!
Great to see British craftsmanship result in such a beautiful yacht. Hope you enjoy it for many years Adrian!
Well done Adrian, enjoy the journey!

Adrian Newey's departure into the sunset caps a remarkable career, particularly highlighted by the last three years of groundbreaking achievements with the Red Bull F1 team after such a dominant Mercedes era.
Looking forward to seeing what Adrian Newey comes up with after spending some time watching how his yacht sails.
This will be perfect to live on on Mediterranean when he moves to Italy in 2025. Plus free servicing for that 1958 Ferrari 250 tdf he turned up in to the factory.... :)
he is going to retire din't you get that out of this??
I am impressed that he is doing this. It is not easy getting into this pastime later in life. There is a lot to learn. I speak as one who has done this with the benefit of having spent my youth racing dinghies at quite a high level. Cruising yachts with your family is difficult!

Looking forward to see Adrian Newey sailing yacht stopping in Gibraltar
What a legend! All the best with the boat
what a wonderful video. Thoroughly deserved, Adrian!
Enjoyed that and may the wind always fill your sails
Beautifully narrated 👍⛵️
This is a perfectly natural progression. A lot of guys who like fast stuff also love sailing. I've only sailed little boats but man, it's a lot of fun. Exquisite yacht for a fabulous man! I hope he can sail it for a couple of decades.
This guy's conquered F1 so much, he's literally doing side quests.
Stunning what a great video and to see and hear Adrian’s views thank you for posting
F1-GOAT
Amazing project, great craftsmanship
Superb Mr Newey, there will be ample "thinking" time. Congratulations. (Did I imagine the loose bolt @ 10:23?) 🧐
Eddie Irvine giving Mr Newey good ideas..!
Enjoy your yacht, Adrian. Leisure sailing is a wonderfully calming experience, although an 88’ boat! That’s bigger than the one I sailed across the pacific…
Adrian Newey, The only guy that can tell the wind what it should be doing for his sailboat. Respect!
I'm pretty sure Chuck Norris also posses that ability 😂
An absolute legend ..... and he can drive, held the lap record at Goodwood in GT 40 which is some feat.
Oyster and Mr. Newey: matching standards!
Brings back fond memories of the buying & building of Chinook ‘99/2001
Welcome to the sailing world Adrian. You will find you can ask any of us for help and it will be gladly given.
Absolute legend of a man! and a absolute stunning sailing boat
As a fellow numpty my choice being a nineties 40' Catamaran built in Southampton... Lots to learn..Enjoy in good health!
Gosh…. Well that was a surprise. I would have thought Adrian’s first port of call would have been Spirit Yachts in Ipswich with a Spirit 111. Maybe that’s more of a sailer than a cruiser?

A famous 'details guy' in an unironed shirt 😆 Beautiful vessel and video.
Oyster looks to be a quality item as is Mr Adrian Newey.
My interests have intersected here! Haha congrats to Adrian on what I’m sure will be an excellent craft. Might want to hire a captain 😅
The conversations these two guys must have ought to be fascinating
He should look at Royal Huisman Yachts, that is the top. But even he might not be able to afford. Anyway great to see sailing and F1 team up, my 2 favorite interests.
1:37 - Arrives for a site visit in his Ferrari 250 GT tdf Berlinetta. Adrian Newey to Ferrari confirmed!

It is a magnificent yacht! My only question is: why are the screws visible on the wood in the interior?
Can’t imagine having to be the PM for Adrian Newey, he must have been way more involved than most customers. That could be interesting though also taxing.
Matthew has done an incredible job and they have a fantastic relationship. It has been a great learning process for us all as everyone involved has shared their bespoke knowledge and expertise, and allowed others to learn from them too.
Craftmanship at its finest.

Theres something about Adrian Newey turning up in a Ferrari 250 TDF with a stack of engineering papers and printouts seems very on brand on him.
a dream for most.. but still pleasurable
Wish I could afford an Oyster. Doing a Great Lakes tour, on my way out to the Atlantic. Plans to circumnavigate the world as well. Need something strong to go around the Horn and Drake's Passage. Maybe someday!
This is fantastic.
And he turns up casually in a $10m Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California from the late 1950s and parks it next to some regular cars. What a dude.
ENJOY YOUR WELL EARNED LIFE STYLE .. CONGRATS ..
When I was kid I was Williams fan, then as a teen I was a McLaren fan, as a young adult I was a Red Bull fan. I never realized what linked all those teams until my wife pointed it out. So I'm at that age now I might start looking into boats who knows...
Masterpiece
What a lovely guy
The propellers that can either propel or reverse-cycle generate power are what I'd want on a sail boat to generate power. Solar is neat, but it's hard to have enough surface area to do much with them.
The master of airflow meets the master of aquatic and wind flow 🗿
Amazing editing

Talk about looking forward to Summer Break ‘24
No pressure lads. But Mr PERFECTION is turning up to look at his boat today 😂
Could Adrian's yacht be spending a lot of time in Italian water in 2025?
Paint it red,,
and yellow😮
“Box Box Box...my yacht is porpoising.” 🐬
Good one 😂
Wow!
Fascinating video… thanks for sharing. No wonder Adrian has had enough of all the recent nonsense at Red Bull and just wants to get some peace, sail his Oyster before turning up at Ferrari… Is he having the Oyster painted red by chance?

What Spar, mast does it have ? Beautiful boat.
Am I ever going to be rich enough to buy a bespoke yacht? No. Did I watch all of this video? Yes
Now we know what he's doing after Red Bull.
I was just about to say that. Endless nights by the drawing board, simulators and the stress of the race weekend versus sailing the seven seas in this beauty... Hmmm, let me think..
