  • In this video I review some vortex mixers from the cheaper end of the spectrum and demo how they work. Sometimes going too cheap isn't the best option!

    Bit late now I am sure but I will add the comment for anyone else in the future, the most common problem with that cheap black mixer is not the coil. The way the mixer finishes the circuit and powers on is with a cheap washer inside, that washer is held in place with tape and nothing else, over time or with heavy use making it hot the washer moves and the circuit doesn't close. It is an easy fix and could save some people from throwing it out thinking it is beyond repair.

      That is some great advice thanks! In fact I'll have a look at mine and see if it can be fixed like that 😁 cheers

    I own one of those $100 ones. I've had it for 3 years now with an average use of around 30 times a week. No issues at all and it does a fantastic job mixing paints.

    Put a stainless steel ball bearing into the pots to aid with mixing

    Blue one failed for me like your black one - can get it working in very short weak bursts but will bin it.
    Managed to mix about 20 bottles over the few weeks I had it.

      That's such a shame ! Mine is still going strong.. is it not still in warranty? The nature of what it does means its a lot of strain on the components. The more expensive I guess the better the warranty. Sorry to hear though

      Same, the intllab one had overwhelmingly bad reviews about it breaking and I chose to ignore them and buy it.
      Well, it broke on the second use and I barely used it for 15 minutes total…

    Do you use the ball bearings in your paint pots.

    • @SimplyWarhammer
      @SimplyWarhammer  2 роки тому

      I don't, but only because there's no need to when you have a vortex mixer. I think the ball bearings mean you can get away without having a mixer 😃

    • @VanDavis
      @VanDavis 2 роки тому +2

      @@SimplyWarhammer the ball bearings help agitate the paint more thoroughly...basically, it would take that time on the Vortex down even further and you shouldn't have to move the pots around so much to get all the sides and bottoms.

    What are your thoughts on buying used lab mixers? You can get $300 to $1,300 devices for around the $40-$150 range. (seems almost worth it considering these nice ‘entry level’ new ones are around $80 anyways)

      @@SimplyWarhammer I think the lab units are just able to mix more weight / it just depends on the amount you need to mix (the max I’ve seen a heavy duty vortex mixer be able to handle is about 1kg)
      I have to admit I think the one I got is stronger than the $40 Amazon unit- However, If you don’t need to mix larger sized bottles the smaller units should work just fine!
      (I do like the speed control though, it is super nice to be able to turn it down or up as needed)
