    Nice restoration! I'd personally install a larger SSD (or hard drive), so that you can dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP - have Windows XP for older games and software, and Windows 7 for the more modern tasks (though even Windows 7 is out of support nowadays).
    I really like these Fujitsu Lifebook's - I had a Fujitsu Lifebook E8020 which had Windows XP, as well as a Pentium M 760 (these were single core processors), 2GB DDR2 (the maximum it would take) and whatever low capacity hard drive I had to hand.

    • @TheSpotify95
      @TheSpotify95 2 роки тому +1

      @erth yeah you could use something like Xubuntu or Lubuntu or even Linux Mint, I'm pretty sure I used Mint XFCE on an old netbook with a 1GHz dual core CPU. Then keep Windows XP for the older software.

    • @TheSpotify95
      @TheSpotify95 2 роки тому +1

      As really and truthfully, you need Windows 10 for anything remotely modern, and Windows 10 won't run very well on older Core 2 systems (as well as potential driver issues).
      Also, the reason why video performance might be poor is that the wireless card is a 802.11a/b/g only card! Even USB adapters support at least 802.11n, which will work much better than 802.11a/b/g.

    These Centrino Duo laptops work well and fast even at 8.1 and 10 LTSC, there is no need to install XP there. I've had a few of these and they've all worked great because laptops on this platform came with both XP and Vista from the factory, and all Windowses after Vista are based on it.

    I have a Dell Precision M6300 from 2007 that has this same CPU line, along with an Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M (I downgraded from the original socketed GPU because of thermal issues with the 5200M). On 8GB of DDR2, with a new dual-band WiFi adapter (cannot be understated how much of a difference this can make for web browsing), and a 1TB SSD this machine flies on Windows 10. Heck, even my Panasonic Toughbook with it's Core 2 Duo L series CPU (a VERY weak CPU even by C2D standards) and integrated graphics runs Windows 10 really well on an SSD. Still though, I will always have a soft spot for Windows XP, and it's always nice to see it again :D

    I recently got a similar laptop like this with windows XP, which was going to be thrown in trash. It was in almost perfect condition almost no scratches, the battery working fine, the hdd (IDE) was perfect, but it had no charger. I found a cheap universal power adapter, and also will be installing an mSata with an adapter from IDE to mSata.

    I have an old dell latitude c610. It originally had a 20gb hard disc, 128mb of ram, and windows xp 32 bit. I added a 256mb stick of a ram, and the laptop boots surprisingly fast even with the hard disc. I'm having issues cloning the drive onto an SSD. It doesn't help that the dvd drive isn't working (hoping to replace soon). I'll probably have to resort to a fresh XP installation or Linux. It blows my mind how lightweight windows XP is

      I'd probably either go 7, 10, or Linux (e.g. Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Xubuntu or Linux Mint). Whilst keeping XP for legacy software and titles.
      Windows 8 (and 8.1) was horrid and had an awful UI. Heck, I'd rather install Vista (not that Vista is supported any longer, and manufacturers dropped Vista support at the same time as XP).

    • @OverTallman
      @OverTallman 2 роки тому

      Depends on what chipset it has.
      If it has GM45/PM45 chipset (FSB up to 1066MHz), you can go for T9900, X9100 or even quad core chips (Q9000, Q9100, QX9300), though beware of extra heat. P9700 runs cooler but loses about 200MHz than T9900 and X9100.
      If it has GL40 chipset (FSB limited to 800MHz), T9500 is the fastest compatible chip without using BSEL mod.
