    Easier than i thought ! It's not as easy as on the old M50 and M54 engines from E34 and E39 but it's not too bad at all , just extra bit of time to remove those accessories
    Have to check the sparks on my 06 330i with 143,000 km ! Thank you so much !

    Lucky you with aluminum cover. The composite valve cover is a POS. It leaks, then you have an issue with the PCV which is built into the cover. Oh ya, when you remove the plastic cover, it will crack from being heat cycled. I want to goto Germany BMW HQ and drop a stinkbomb in the lunch room because they used way too much plastic for PCV related components

      Yeah part of the reason I wanted the magnesium valve cover👍🏻

    HELO great video...do u need to GAP these spark plugs..?? if so what is the spark plug gap?

  • @ears1991

    Good video, managed to do mine without moving the strut brace by joining up a few short socket extensions! ISTA says 23 +/-3Nm for M12, 30 +/-3Nm for M14, I think it should be the latter. NGK says Aluminum: 18-21.6 lb. ft, so 28Nm is probably good.
    Did the coils too, newer design from Delphi as listed by BMW+realOEM, more robust looking, but requires you to modify/replace the socket housing if you have an earlier car due to different keying (BMW ditched the keying on newer cars). I just modified with side cutters and needle nose pliers, bodge but less chance of screwing up than moving 18 wires over.
    BMW lists 12122158253 as current plug, which I believe is NGK PLZFR6A11S (shorter ISO height instead of JIS). I've still got the ILZFR6D11 though and it seems fine, someone on an E90 forum suggested they weren't compatible, presumably due to the 2.5mm height difference...
    Good opportunity to check your valve cover gasket, mine looks to be leaking a bit in spark plug area but doesn't look urgent.

      I was lucky with coils from delphi, no modification (mine is 03/2006)

      Yes I’ll be getting Delphi coils👍🏻

    Followed your step by step guide.
    Very clear...
    But....
    The car fought me all the time. Plastic crap all over the place, the plastic mock engine cover tangled it's metal receivers to the cylinder head grommets, plastic lugs snapped of on the rats nest comprising the cabin filter etc and the final pain in the arsev were the three of the six ignition coils were jammed into their holes which took ages to pull out. No 4 coil ( counting from the front) is abbuted up to part of the cylinder head and was very difficult even to move. Ended up breaking the metal clamp that helps keep the electric plug seated tight. Hopefully this won't cause a misfire, but with BMW who knows.
    Putting everything back equally time consuming,as nothing wanted to return to it's place without a fight
    I lost the will to continue and stopped for the night
    Will fight it again tomorrow.
    Frankly,I don't know why people rave about BMW's, it's my wife's car , and it's really getting to a point where my time and energy is simply not worth it.

    How often do you recommend changing out the ignition coils? Also, would you go for bosch ones or another brand?

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  3 роки тому +3

      For this engine, Delphi are OEM, they’re usually good for 100k miles or so

    • @brarautorepairs
      @brarautorepairs 3 роки тому +2

      I got Bosch coils for $100, did the vanos and the car ran better. The coils go bad because of the heat and vibrations.

    Need a diagnostic test tomorrow as I've got a drivetrain malfunction warning ⚠️. I'm hoping for spark plugs.
    Car has been sluggish and revs fluctuations between 2k and 3k. F31 2014 320d.
    Any advice winning thanks George. Jon.

    How many hours do you think a car mechanic should make you pay for this? Mine said the labour cost will be very high cause it's a lot of work to remove everything to be able to just access them, but watching your video makes it seem not that long.

    Hey mate every time you click your torque wrench more than once you're over torquing the bolt, or plug in this case. That, and it looks silly
