I am thinking hard about making a nice big hexagon quilt now! :) What kind of wadding (batting) do you use? It looks very thin: did you split the layers?
I absolutely love your hand work! Over the years, believe it or not, people have been very negative about my handwork. I started doing a hexagon quilt years ago, and was told that I would never finish it because I was doing it by hand. Quilting by hand has been met with comments like, "You are wasting your time, you need to use a quilt machine!" Now I am much older and my hands can no longer do all of that hand quilting, but I so admire that you press on and do this. You are a true artist with you hands.
Oh Patti, I think it's terrible that people have been so negative to you, that is really unfair. Why can't people be happy for others who have found something nice to do? Thank you for watching
Do not allow the negatives into your world. You do what you want to do. I thoroughly dislike people that cannot appreciate others and are always there with their negatives. Know that they probably are very unhappy in life unlike you my dear! Be happy, be well and quilt on in any way you love.
I have never felt negative for loving hand work, I too now have serious hand pain and numbness so I have to pick and choose carefully, but I let naysayers know that they are wasting their time preaching to me. Go tell it to someone who craves your attention and feedback and that is not me. I do not quilt fast, or piece or appliqué fast but I enjoy every stitch and I have lost count of the hand work I have given as gifts to family, friends and strangers and gifted to others so they can raise money at sales and such. 👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💋💋👌👌👌👌🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Emma, Please know that what you are doing really matters. I caught your very first video by chance. After you shared how slow stitching saved your life, I began to rescue my own. Several years later, people around me are beginning to notice the subtle differences in my ability to better manage stress and anxiety. Beyond hexies I have added crocheting, cross stitching and basic gardening to my recovery process. I have shared your original video with many others that I encounter who are seeking refuge from the complexities of life. Thank you for continuing to share your art. You have really grown in your art. I always enjoy watching you share each of your whips and finished projects. Remain encouraged.
Hi Rebecca, thank you so much for sharing your personal story with me. I am so happy to hear that crafts have helped you like they help me. It's incredible how much of a difference slowing down and focusing on creating can make to life isn't it. Continue to take good care of yourself and thank you for watching and sharing my video x x
I have never been a quilter, but I ADORE seeing your choices of fabrics and designs. You have such a calm manner, and your explanations are very clear. Thank you for your generous spirit!
What I love about this quilt design is it is peacefully done in small amounts, not overwhelming at all. I have so many scraps of old linens. This is the perfect way to use them. So many even have scraps of embroidery already on them. I am very excited about finally getting to use them. Thank you for this wonderful video that presents itself in a very doable plan.
My mother and grandmother left so many beautiful pieces of needle work that could be incorporated into a quilt like this. Thank you so much for teaching this 74 year old great gran a new way to use them. I am also a Jane Austin fan and avid reader. God bless you and your gift.
I have been looking for a quilt to use as a diary quilt. And I think this will be perfect for a diary quilt. My goal for the new year is to quilt- and this is the plan! What a beautiful construction.
I'm new to quilting and absolutely LOVE your use of florals. Thank you for your beautiful aesthetic. I hope to try and emulate your style. Thank you for showing me I can mix things up and quilt as I go and make little adorable things. Its a whole new world for me now...Thank you sew much Emma
Emma - I love your beautiful quilting techniques. I first learned of your gorgeous quilts from watching a UA-cam video a few years ago. Unfortunately, I never saved it to my folders and have spent the past 18 months trying to view it again. Luckily tonight, I found this wonderful video again.
FINALLY, a way to make quilting properly portable -- and with those clips, you can bring it on a plane as well. The biggest issue I've had with quilting so far, and the reason I don't do it anymore, is that it's just not interruptable and portable enough, unlike knitting and crochet where you can pick something up and put it down, and finish small pieces in between assembling them. This idea makes quilting just as portable, simple, and quiet as knitting and crochet -- no chattering machine!
I just discovered your channel and I absolutely LOVE it!!! Everything you do is beautiful and peaceful! I look forward to watching each and every video you made!!!
My Mom passed a few years ago and I saved her clothes to make a quilt. I couldn't decide on a pattern/project until now. I too enjoy hand sewing. Thank you for this video.
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I think this would be a wonderful way to remember her and it would make such a lovely memory quilt. Take care and thank you for watching
This is too gorgeous for words and has inspired me to use all the fabrics that I have collected for a special project - previously unknown until now! I’m at a stage now where I don’t want to make a lot of quilts anymore especially since I have made a lot for family but none really for myself. However, it’s time I made some special projects for myself with a touch of nostalgia from my own childhood. I have beautiful embroidery transfers that belonged to my husband’s grandmother; she taught me how to embroider so I’m sure she will be happy. Like you, I also like the way it’s always in a state of completion - no more UFO’s in the cupboard. Thank you Emma, I’ve watched this video twice and love it. Take care 🇳🇿😀
Oh Carolyn! What a lovely comment! I’m so excited you are going to make one too! Your plan sounds wonderful. Take care, thanks for watching and happy sewing!
This is absolutely beautiful Emma. I love everything about it, the fabric designs, colours and your wonderful embellishments. What a wonderful project. I look forward to updates as it grows. Thank you.
Thanks Emma, this technique is something I can manage as I have a disability but also like to do all of the projects I’m doing. I don’t like the idea of sending my quilt off to a long arm quilter. I love that this can make large and small projects. Thanks for sharing. Julie Tasmania Australia.❤❤
I love this quilting project. I didn't realize you could quilt as you go like this. I really enjoy your channel and project ideas! You have inspired me to dig into my fabric stash 💗 Thanks Emma 💖
Emma you make me so happy 😊. I love love love everything you do. I often have similar ideas but lack the confidence to try them. I love that you share your vulnerability, it really helps me. I love that you show us how to do things, there's your gift of teaching that is within you coming shining out with love towards us. Thankyou so much Emma for your kindness, encouragement, skills and yourself you share.
Oh what a lovely thing to say Christina, thank you so much. I understand what it’s like to be unsure and lack confidence. I’m still like that too. But I try to just focus on what I feel like making and just go for it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I hope you can give it a go and just create from your heart ❤️
What you do is something very very special Emma. Thank you for sharing here. Mother Teresa used to say "do something beautiful for God", I think this definitely counts as something very beautiful. :)
Oh my, Emma, this is a fantastic project and one that I definitely want to do. I absolutely love it!! Thank you so much for once again sharing your talent and time with all of us. It is so gorgeous!!
This would be a good way to use those vintage linens that are to precious to discard! Somewhere I have some embroidery that I cut off a pillowcase because the it was worn out but I couldn’t bear to throw out. Now I know what I can do with it!!!
This is just a beautiful way to use those precious vintage pieces that I have been saving for “ something special”! I love the way you incorporate a bit of embroidery to enhance the fabric. Your video is relaxing to watch and I can’t wait to begin a hexie project of my own. Thank you for the inspiration and sharing your talent! Gorgeous result! Keep it growing! 💐
Was feeling very stressed this morning so I hopped on UA-cam to find something relaxing to watch and you were the first person I thought of. When I can watch Emma hand stitching something pretty, I go into the happy place in my mind where the cares of the world are just a bit muted and sewing is the only thing that matters. Am not only feeling better but also inspired to get my hexies out and crack on with this quilt. Thank you Emma!🥰
Oh that is such a lovely thing to say, thank you. That honestly means so so much to me. I hope you are ok and things are a bit less stressful today. Take care of yourself 🌸
Just discovered your channel & absolutely love this quilt you are making! I also love your calm manner and your accent ☺️ I follow several from “across the pond” & all are very soothing to watch & listen to….it must be a local thing 😉 We are too fast-paced & hectic here!
So lovely Emma, I even have some of my late mother's vintage transfers. The ones you used looked so familiar, and so sensible to trace the transfers so they can be repeated as often as wanted. I have other projects on the go at present, but with winter evenings approaching an ideal thing to be working on. Thank you.
Hi Emma. I love the vintage embroidery transfers you show in this video. I'm 77 now but they take me back to the tablecloths my grandma and my mum used to embroider with those beautiful ladies on them. I'm hoping I still have some of mums transfers 🤞 Thankyou for another beautiful video 💞
What a beautiful, soothing video . I am starting my quilt as you go hexagon quilt today. I cannot tell you how many special fabrics I’ve collected over 50 years and now I have the perfect project for them. Handwork is the perfect meditative activity especially during these trying times. There are so many quilting videos these days and I believe yours are some of the best. Thank you. ❤
I Will be creating one for myself. I’ve created wuilts for all 5 children for their weddings. All 8 grands have a hand made hand quilted quilt. Now time for myself . Your quote will be however , have to posted video kept me creating at the hotel 2 hours at least One can never have true quilted art in their home. To me it’s a sign of days gone back. Cultures have changed but quilting will never end thank you for being such a big part of keeping hand quilting and EP alive
oh that is so lovely of you Cheryl, thank you for your kind words. Sounds like you've made some incredible projects over the years. Thanks for watching
Your voice is so peaceful. My dementia roommate here in the nursing home she calms down as soon as I start learning. Thank you so much and yes I will be starting tomorrow morning.
What lovely material you use in your “quilt as you go” project. Often so many want to finish needlework in a hurry instead of enjoying the journey. I have so many old linens from my grandmother that can be repurposed into little stories of their own. Thanks for the inspiration.🪡🧵🙏🌟💖
So glad to see you back & Hoping your summer with Your child was all you had Desired. Your project, instructions And narration are great. I would like to try this Idea in simple patch work Squares set on point. Could be lovely Quilted placemats & Table runner.
Thank you for this quilt as you go project. I did a small one years ago but the back was all an off white I like the idea of different favorite fabric colors and putting in personal embroidery stories etc! Quilts to stop and go on as you have time for makes it fun. My husband and I are going to travel full time in the USA 🇺🇸and EPP projects like this are perfect!
Hi. You had me with your intro! Where I live, no one in the quilting guild likes slow hand stitching! It is such a comforting feeling to have found a like minded person! I love this quilt. I want to make one! Thank you!!!
Love watch you sew such beautiful hexagon, I think I like making these are so lovely you can just make one at a time. You are a artist with such wonderful fabrics that you pick out for your projects
I found your video by chance, as I was looking to do quilting by hand again. Sometimes, doing things by machine doesn't have that personal touch. Thank you for sharing this video. I have tons of fabric I can now put together and use. 💓
Yes! I'm going to make one. I think I'm going to add my already sewn flower hexagons in the center of some of the hexagons. But first, I think I'm going to make a table runner for spring with this method.
Thank you so much. I will be using this technique soon. I have tried quilting before but found the process of machine stitching to not be relaxing and then trying to handle all the fabric too much 🤦♀️. I discovered that I enjoy hand piecing much more and find it as relaxing as my much loved cross stitch. Your video is lovely and clear and beautiful to watch. I can appreciate, from my flosstube recordings (which are very simple), the amount of work you put into making an episode. Thanks again. Karen x
Aww thank you so much Karen. I hope you love it when you give it a try. Lovely to hear you have a channel too, I will be sure to check it out and subscribe x
I live English paper quitting I have just re- kindled my love for quilting and I am make my Granddaughter a quilt. Really love what you have shown in this video the concept of the Two in one is new to me. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creative skills. 🌸🌸
This will be my first quilting type project. I don’t really understand a sewing machine but I know how to sew by hand. My great grandma taught me about 19 years go now. Thank you for this gorgeous tutorial. 🥹🥰
Hi from Australia. Thankyou for sharing. I lost a bag full of hexies that I had sewn and really lost heart. My sewing friend encouraged to watch you. Now I will start again thanks to your encouragement Emma. Ps I too love BPotter regards Rotha .
Oh I’m sorry to hear you lost your hexies Rotha, I hope they turn up one day and then you could add them to what you start now. Take care and thank you for watching
I think I will start one as soon as I'm finish with 3 quilts I'm making. I will use scraps from previous quilts I have made and do a wall hanging. You do lovely work.
Emma, thank you very much for recommending the Serious Readers light. I ordered the high def, heavyweight floor model. It arrived yesterday in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA in perfect condition. WOW!!! Huge difference in how long I can EPP, without eye fatigue. Being able to adjust the light intensity is a real game changer. I put in your "Emma20" offer code. Just like you said, they sent me their compact light for free, perfect for my sewing machine table. You're the BEST, Emma. Thank you so very much!!!! I'm so thrilled you stopped teaching and started your Vintage Sewing Box business.
Hi Norma, I am so happy you love your lights! I absolutely love mine and it has made such a big difference to me too, so it’s lovely to know you have had the same experience. Thank you so much for using my code too. Take care and happy stitching 😊🧵
I just discovered you, Emma, and I love these hexies. I think these may be what I've been searching for in terms of a long-term hand project. Just lovely 🌷
You are such a lovely young lady and an amazing teacher. Keep up the good work. I have never made a quilt and have always wanted to try to hand sew one and now thanks to you i'm going to be giving it a try. I subscribed to your channel because now I don't want to miss any of your videos.
Will you be making a quilt as you go hexagon quilt? Let me know!
It's a house shape and it is quilt as you go using the techniques you did today. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am thinking hard about making a nice big hexagon quilt now! :) What kind of wadding (batting) do you use? It looks very thin: did you split the layers?
Yes I will be making the quilting as you go hexagon quilt.
I love this technique. I have made a QAYG hexagon project and plan to do more. Yours is really lovely.
Absolutely!

Everytime I watch this video, I'm ready to start this project. I have soooooo many I need to have quilted, and several tops to finish.

Quilts to stop and go on as you have time for makes it fun. My husband and I are going to travel full time in the USA 🇺🇸and EPP projects like this are perfect!
Thanks for watching Linda

Hi. You had me with your intro! Where I live, no one in the quilting guild likes slow hand stitching! It is such a comforting feeling to have found a like minded person! I love this quilt. I want to make one! Thank you!!!

OH! I've got to find that blue quilt to see all of it. I'm in love!
I found your video by chance, as I was looking to do quilting by hand again. Sometimes, doing things by machine doesn't have that personal touch. Thank you for sharing this video. I have tons of fabric I can now put together and use. 💓
Thank you for watching! Glad you liked it 😊
Thanks, I love a quilt as you go. I have made one in the past that I crocheted together, I love it.
A crochet one would be so pretty! Thanks for watching
Yes! I'm going to make one. I think I'm going to add my already sewn flower hexagons in the center of some of the hexagons. But first, I think I'm going to make a table runner for spring with this method.
Oh that sounds wonderful! 🌸

I just discovered this video. Very well done and this is a project I am starting today. ❤
Thank you! Enjoy making it
Thank you so much.

Glad you like them! I hope you enjoy making it 🌸
I love the soft florals and have started a collection. Now I know what to do with them when I'm ready.
You are such a lovely young lady and an amazing teacher. Keep up the good work. I have never made a quilt and have always wanted to try to hand sew one and now thanks to you i'm going to be giving it a try. I subscribed to your channel because now I don't want to miss any of your videos.
