I got the maths wrong as I so often do - I calculated that there are really 1425 hexagons (or so) and not whatever I said at the end. Well done to everyone who paused the video and counted them! wow! I thought there were a lot more! Sorry guys - never trust my maths - ever! xxx
Oh Kate! I was only joking 😂😂 I'm so pleased you get to cuddle up with moms quilt, I'd be so disappointed if I made a beautiful quilt for someone and they didn't want to use it because it's too lovely and kept it in a draw, they need to be loved on the bed 💖😊
For Agnes to have this quilt, which her Grandmother's hands have lovingly touched, is a great treasure for years to come. To think Grandmother's fingers have been over every inch. Grandmother's eyes seeing the pattern unfold, her thoughts when making the quilt; everything is a special gift.
My grandmother and great grandmother plus her sister quilted me a quilt they put away till I married I lived with my husband for 4 years before we finally tied the knot and Nan would not give me the quilt until the wedding.🤣😂🤣. I used the quilt, I didn’t let it just sit away somewhere as it had languished for about 12 years already. It’s now falling apart, beyond repairing , holes and just threadbare but it was loved and felt like a hug from these very loved and important women in my life. 🥰🙋🏼♀️
It truly is a treasure. My grandfather gave me a quilt my grandmother had started and all the loose patches after she passed. I was working to finish the quilt but lost everything when my home was burglarized 10 years ago. The burglar also took my hard drives and hundreds of $ worth of drawing and painting supplies... But it's loosing her quilt that still makes my heart ache.
@@jillipepper5353 that's so beautiful! I would try to sew it between a new quilt & it's backing, or make a throw pillow (or something similar) and use it as the filling just to keep the original quilt around for as long as possible. Just because it would be hard for me to let go of something made with all that love ❤️
@@Pickles-gu6dz that is a treasure beyond price. I was blessed with a nearly 100 year old quilt my paternal grandmother Hand stitched repairs were needed. It has a renewed life.
I think my favorite thing about you making this quilt for Agnes is that she will also have this, your videos of making it! She’ll be able to actually see you making it. What a gift! So glad to see you well! Take care!
Someone gave me a great tip. She hole punches the middle of the paper piece so that when it comes to taking it out, she uses a small chop stick type device to just flip out the paper pieces. So quick n easy.
Kate I enjoyed this video as I do all of them, but this one in particular, tugged at my heart. I am a quilter but even if I wasn't, I would realize how special this quilt is. When a quilter gifts a bed quilt, especially one that they hand stitched, they are giving more than a collection of fabric sewn into a blanket. Every quilt has a story to tell and a piece of the maker goes with it. It is the most beautiful feeling to experience. Agnes will be enchanted to sleep and dream under the colours of her grandmother's love. From your hands to her heart. Memories never forgotten. ❤️
Kate, two years in coming.....fabulous labor of true love for little Missy Agnes.....beautiful hexi quilt for many years of cuddles! Thanks for sharing this heart warming project. Blessings.
The movement of color around this quilt is absolutely dreamy, like swimming in a sun-dappled lagoon. Honestly it belongs in a museum but I'm glad it'll be put to use and loved. I'm sad to see the scalloped edges go, but excited to see where your artistic vision takes the project.
A labour of love and art...what a treasure this will be to Agnes. I picture Agnes on top of it with her little fingers traveling to wherever the colors take her.

Thank you so much for your lovely channel and all you give by sharing your ideas, thoughts and talents…
What a labor of love and joy this is. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the videos about Agnes’ quilt and I look forward to continuing this journey with you. I spent a fun afternoon with my 96 year old mother today. I took my iPad with me and played one of the videos about Norma. Then I read your book about Norma to my mother. Her vision is really bad and she can’t see to stitch anymore so I thought this would be something enjoyable and different for her. She really did enjoy seeing the video and the reading of Norma’s story. Thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us.
I would like to say THANK YOU! First for the BEAUTIFUL view you share as part of who you are / live North of England. And then THANK YOU for teach me this paper piecing that I have been FAILING at for years. Blessings, Eve
This stunning quilt is truly priceless, given the many stages, the amount of work, the love for a granddaughter that has gone into it...what an heirloom. What a precious reminder for Agnes as she grows up. I never even knew this was a thing, even an elderly woman like me can learn and love something new. Thank you, Kate and cats from Kaye and cats, in Australia.
Wow! And wow! First time seeing quilts , magnificent hands at work ! The Color’s are a beautiful pond of 753 Lili pads. This is what i see , i apologize if its another picture that you have created. Looking at it, i heard the frogs songs between the flesh air blowing and the sun shining on my face under the fig tree , reading my bible! Your devotion for this projects is beyond anything i have ever made by hands. Beautiful , gorgeous and thank you for sharing the process . ❤️
Hello Kate, It truly is a masterpiece. My heart went to my throat when, Sadie jumped up on the quilt, and the poignant gasp went out. I have a huge Grace 4 rod quilt frame with a King size Chicken Tracks quilt in it. I've been working on it for years. It was in the living where I had more room, and one or the other of the cats jumped up on it and clawed it so badly I had to remove one whole row right in the middle. Then I had to put it back together. I love my cats (5), but I had to put the frame in my little sewing room, that meant something had to go. The cutting table. So now the sewing room is a cat free zone.
You encourage me to get off my rear and do more. By noon I have put in 8 hrs. and I have a tendency to not do much in the afternoon. But watching you and how many projects you have going makes me want to get more done. I have plenty to do so I have no excuse! God bless you, Kate!
What an absolute labor of love. Agnes and her parents will cherish this spectacular quilt. I love listening to you taking the papers out and just chatting
Kate, you are such a joy! To everyone, i think! I’m 74 years old, and i watch all varieties of knitting related podcasts. The young people who podcast are so interested in just how much they can do, or create. Don’t get me wrong, their projects are spectacular! But there is just something so soothing and wonderful about your calm, slow manner. Just as in the two years it has taken to make Agnes’ quilt, with even more months yet to go, haste is not in your nature!! With that i can so identify. You have so many different types of projects…i mostly just knit or cross-stitch. But I’m no longer in a race, even with myself, to finish a project! Thank you for visiting in my home each time you do. I LOVE having you here!❤️❤️
It's wonderful to think how many hours Agnes will spend looking at each fabric pattern and choosing her favourites...such a beautiful gift. 😊 The quilt is so fluid and tranquil from a distance but such glorious, colourful chaos up close...magic! I'm terrible at maths, one of the reasons why I thought quilting could be a nightmare for me. Half way through the video I thought that quilt top was missing something...a cat. I guess the sunny garden was a priority; my money for the first arrival would have been on cat Rita. 😄 It's all fun and games until someone loses traction but that was a stellar recovery. Thanks for the video Kate, a lovely to way to spend some time. 😊🇨🇦🌸
Hi Cate! I so love watching your channel out here on Vancouver Island. The quilt for Agnes is absolutely beautiful...reminds me of a Monet Waterlily painting.
@@KelleysQuiltsandCruises Hello Kelley. Too bad we don't live closer...Sayward is on the north part of Vancouver Island, a semi remote village where I am able to work on my art projects, painting and fabric arts, in a studio I built several years ago. I am a retired commercial artist and also showed paintings in many shows and taught for a few years at university level. My eyesight began to fail about four years ago so now I work on small embroidery designs (for small bags) using a magnifying light. At least I can continue to work with my hands and be creative.
HI Karen - I live on Vancouver island also - in Saanich (Victoria). Cate's EPP quilt is beyond stunning. The colors and movement are so deeply beautiful.
What a journey it's becoming, this beautiful quilt. It has been such a privilege to watch you work on it. The goofy cat interlude brightened my day too. Love to all.
I have loved watching this journey of Agnes's quilt.. I will admit that I will miss seeing it on the design board. So exciting to see it come together. Simply stunning!! ❤
Gorgeous quilt. I have made some for each of my grandchildren and one for me and him indoors so I can appreciate all the hard work involved. I did cheat a bit by using a glue stick to hold the papers in place. A real inheritance piece for anyone to receive. Thanks for sharing.
The video documentation of Agnes' quilt will also be a treasure because she'll be able to see it from conception to inception to completion. What another amazing gift that Grandma has created for her. Have so enjoyed every step of the way, Kate. Thank you! xx
I picture Agnes playing “what is my favorite fabric “ as she uses this quilt throughout her life. You are not only an artist, but incredibly patient and detail oriented.
Dear Kate, the quilt is absolutely stunning. Monet painting colours in fabric. True masterpiece made with love. Agnes will love discovering it over the years. Incredible gift from an amazing Nanna. From Lisa, ex Pat from England in Canada. Thanks for your videos Kate
Kate , It’s so beautiful looked like a river of colour laying across your table, I have watched you make this quilt from the beginning and Agnes is a very lucky little girl to be able to swim under this while she floats along in her dreams. I was further off I knew it had to be at least more than 500 hexagon but over 700 wow the work you have put into this has been worth every minute xo
From Lamèque, New-Brunswick Canada!!
Oh Kate, this quilt takes my breath away. How lucky Agnes is to have a grandma who loves her so much. I can’t wait to see the completed quilt ! Thank you for taking us on this journey. ❤️
Kate, the quilt is brilliant!!! What a lucky granddaughter Agnes is!! Congratulations on arriving to such a long-awaited day. Good thing there was so much pleasure in the doing. And thank you for bringing me along. The videos provide so much inspiration and relaxation!!
I just filled in a bit more of the afternoon, its raining here, so its an inside day. I love how peaceful and relaxing your podcasts are. I think I am addicted. Nevermind there could be so many more harmful things to be addicted to. Agnus is going to love her quilt made by her Grandmother with loads of Love. Catch up again, take care.
You go girl! I know when I do projects people are like "OMG how do you do that! It must take so long! So much patience!" but for me, I enjoy every stitch and when a project is completed, I feel so accomplished! I do intricate crochet and full coverage crosstitch portraits (100,000 + stitches). But I'm looking at your work the same way people look at my work. Good Job!
There is a comfort about following tradition especially when beloved relatives like my mom and grandmom taught me a certain way. When you no longer have them, doing that thing they passed along to you will put a smile on your face each time. Both my mom and her mom taught me to sew early in my life, especially how to hand sew neatly. That is why I am attracted to English Paper Piecing; an excuse to use hand stitches ❤️
I love this quilt top for Agnes, such a journey of unconditional love 🩵💙💚🩷💜 I also love it for the symphony of colours that ripple across the surface. If you had asked me prior, which colours would delight my soul, these wouldn't be my first choice yet now, they are my favourite ever combination. Well done Kate, you have created a treasure for your treasure ❤
Yay,papers out. Progress is made. I vote a thin wadding.. can’t wait to see backing material for MONET’s Garden quilt as I call it. Agnes is going to love it and it’s back story.😻
Oh, Kate, I wish I could have those threads for my artwork! By the way, I have finished the piecing of my English paper pieced quilt for my daughter, and have chosen the way to do the edge (I made a border of "facing octagons" and will sew them along to be the very edge of the quilt). I took out the papers as I went, but don't worry, there's no chance that any of the stitching is going to be pulled or weakened. I took your teaching seriously and was super careful and especially at any corner that met another corner! So we will be likely quilting together from our different countries. I can't thank you enough for the kind instruction you provided to all of us so we could enjoy this wonderful British skill.
So lovely Kate.. I am 58 and look forward to the day I can spend hours dedicated to such a beautiful project.. 753 lol I was just typing the question as you were telling us .. Luv u miss thank you again for a sweet video
This quilt is simply stunning! It‘s been such a pleasure watching it come together. My perfect evening? Watching Kate working on Agnes‘s quilt while I‘m stitching together my own hexagons - knitted ones in my case - to make my own quilt. Here‘s to enjoying and celebrating our crafting! 🥂
Kate, you have inspired me a great deal in the last couple of months, that I've been watching you. I just purchased a sizzix hand-crank die cutter for fabric. I also like to sew by hand. I was taught how to hand sew when I was just six years old, by my mom and my grandma and my grandma great. I purchased a die for a 2-1/4" hexagon so I can make a quilt similar to the one you made for Agnes. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your wonderful self and the things you do🥰😍💖
Thank you for this lovely video! I am a 24 year old crafter from New Zealand trying to connect to my great-grandmothers through crafts. You are an inspiration!
Agness is a lucky little girl, to have a grandma like you. She'll never forget that you made this for her. Nice also to have a record of you making it. It is so beautiful. Looks like a garden of hydrangeas. Ooops, kitty. Careful. Love the look on kitty's face. But true to a cat, she recovered and righted herself perfectly. Love seeing your video alerts. So lovely. Thank you for letting us in on all your secrets.

It’s just beautiful Kate…I’m looking forward to seeing the coming videos on the finishing especially the quilting . You inspired me to start a Hexie quilt but it’s only a cot sized …It’s a eye spy themed and I can’t believe how obsessed I become hunting out appropriate fabric 😂.I’m making it for a grand baby yet to be made and born for my youngest daughter because sadly I might not be around when that happens due to major health problems. So thank you Kate for inspiring and teaching me ….I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process and I’ve left instructions for my daughter to watch your videos just encase I don’t get to finish it.💐
I just found your channel! I live in Pennsylvania USA and pulled muscles in my ankle planting my garden. So I'm sitting which is not fun till it heals and just binge watching your channel. It is a really fabulous quilt, stitched with love and I'm sure it will be treasured for years. There is something satisfying about taking the papers out-- the home stretch has been reached. Agnes is a very lucky little girl.
Your quilt is lovely. The scattering of colors is very pleasant. But mostly I want to tell you how much I enjoyed my first viewing of your channel and meeting you as a person. You are as easy to like as your work!
I know a wonderful quilter friend who also uses this technique to make quilts. I just love it. She did help me get started, but my garden always calls me and I never seem to get the time to devote to the learning. Gorgeous.
Folding the edges back to create a straight edge is genius! I've got to remember that. I love wool batting. It's amazingly light and drapes so nicely. It's also great for cool or warm weather. Can't believe you've gotten this done. It's turned out so pretty!
Wow and wow ! This is a magnificent work under your hand that you have made. Looking at it , made me remind a wonderful time … what a beautiful pond of Color’s! Its bring joy and peace to look at it! As i sit on it, i heard the frogs signing with the Robins , the sun shining on my face , under the lilacs trees as i read my bible. Thank you for sharing this beautiful project with us! ❤️

That's nice and how's your day going!!
What a treasure you have created for sweet Agnes💕💕💕💕Labor of grandmothers Love😘😘
This quilt is a work of ART! It is so beautiful! The love that went into it-unmeasurable! BRAVO KATE!!!!!!
Yeah, and that's so nice of you, how is your day going!!!
I love this quilt top for Agnes, such a journey of unconditional love 🩵💙💚🩷💜
I also love it for the symphony of colours that ripple across the surface.
Agnes is going to love it and it’s back story.😻
yes - I'm leaning towards thin and drapey too xxx
Monet's Garden - I like that! It fits!
Agnes is a very lucky grand! This quilt is sooooo labor intensive! It will surely be a treasure for generations!
This was so nice when I see this on you tube my grandma use to make blanket like this when is was little.and I am nearly 50 now
Kate, it is such a spectacular quilt!! What a treasure for Agnes 💕🪡🧵
So lovely Kate.. I am 58 and look forward to the day I can spend hours dedicated to such a beautiful project.. 753 lol I was just typing the question as you were telling us .. Luv u miss thank you again for a sweet video
When Agnes is old enough to appreciate all the time and care that went into her quilt she can watch the videos of its creation.
That's so nice of you and how is your day going!!
Are you making the beekeepers quilt with hexipuffs? If so I’ve worked on this for years … but I call mine ‘squishies’ ❤️
@@gonnabeayogi1445 Yes, I am, but I‘ve not stuffed them, so I sometimes call them hexiflats. I started mine in 2016, so it‘s a long-term project, too.
Your quilts are beautiful but this one is absolutely AMAZING!! Your grandaughter is lucky to have you.
This is the first time I have watched....this is so cozy and welcoming....thank you
How beautiful! I loved watching Agnes’ quilt grow over the past couple years. Love to all; many thanks for sharing!
That's so nice of you and I appreciate your comment. How's your day going!!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your wonderful self and the things you do🥰😍💖
My mother tried once to make a quilt like this but never got the time to finish it. It brings me great joy and happiness to see it finished. 💜
Really it's a nice quietly and how is your day going!!!
So lovely. Thank you for letting us in on all your secrets.
... What you have done is MIRACLE !!! A wonderful panel that you want and want to look at! I have enjoyed watching your other videos as well. The cozy atmosphere of your home (in my understanding) is a classic Hygge)). Tranquility and harmony. Thank you very much! You have given me an idea.
Kate that's a one Beautiful Quilt top. Agnes is going to love it. It's going to be one Beautiful Quilt when done. . It's going to be warm it looks like. Love it. Love of love for you guys are so much fun to watch. You and Anna together ❤️ you all. Happy Sunday afternoon.
That's so nice of you and how is your day going Brenda!!
I cannot believe you got them all out in a day!!!! Brava 😍
What a beautiful quilt. You did a beautiful job, Kate. Looking out for the next part creating this one. Thank you for sharing and the inspiration.
Absolutely beautiful and how generous of you to share your technique with the world
It’s just beautiful Kate…I’m looking forward to seeing the coming videos on the finishing especially the quilting . So thank you Kate for inspiring and teaching me ….I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process and I’ve left instructions for my daughter to watch your videos just encase I don’t get to finish it.💐
😿that is a terribly sad thing. I hope you will be okay, whatever that really means to you. Oh, my heart 😭
Wow! So many pieces! And the colors! Fantastic!💕💕💕
Labour's of love. What a beautifull heirloom for your granddaughter.
I like the idea of how you will finish the edges.
That's so nice of you and how is your day going!!!
I just found your channel! I live in Pennsylvania USA and pulled muscles in my ankle planting my garden. So I'm sitting which is not fun till it heals and just binge watching your channel. I'm always drawn to people that are calm and so curious. I am like a jack of all trades. Nothing I won't try. You are a delight to watch! I just started quilting and loving what you make! Thank you for sharing your time!
It's so beautifully timeless.
Just like a bunch of mixed hydrangeas, beautiful 👌
I like what you saw! xxx
What a beautiful quilt Agnes will treasure this because Grandma made it. A lucky little girl
WOW! What amazing quilt. Give yourselves a big hug and many hugs from me in Canada. I so much enjoy your visits .
Well ! I counted and I was way off, 1500 was my guess. 😂
Wow!! All that work. It is totally beautiful. It shimmers.
This is my first time finding your page. That quilt is a work of art. Amazingly beautiful!
Agnes will Love this gorgeus Quilt... ❤️🌷🇸🇮
I have watched this come together. It is beautiful breathtaking
What a labor of love. Congratulations on an excellent job.
Thank you for this you have made how to deal with the edges so simple.
Wow that's awesome and how is your day going?
This video was randomly suggested this morning. I loved it. I had started a couple of those types of quilts, but only really finished one. They are indeed a labor of love. Very pretty.
Love this quilt, such a labour of love, and I’m sure it will be cherished for many many years. X
Yeah that's so nice of you and I really appreciate your comment. How is your day going!!
What a treasure, I thought 2,000 hexagons. I have been making cushion covers with Liberty fabric, paper piecing diamond shapes. The unpicking and removing templates was a task I did not like but you done it with a lovely attitude that I am going to adopt from now on, how lovely, Thank you.
