- In this video I am going to unbox and review the reissued Seagull 1963 - a marvelous mechanical chronograph, that was issued to Chinese air force pilots back in the 1960's, and was the first Chinese made aviation watch.
It is also a personal grail watch of mine - I've been coveting this watch for a long time and I am so happy to have it in my collection now.
To me, this watch is the pinnacle of My Chinese Watch Collection - it highlights the amazing value you can find in Chinese watches for relatively small money.
The Seagull 1963 reissue has it all - the looks, the mechanics and the heritage.

But this reissue is a “HK inspired” so maybe that’s why inconsistent front vs back... cheers

I just recently purchased this one, along with the green dial version with the gooseneck adjustment...I’m so in love with both of these watches, that I am thinking of selling the majority of my watch collection, as I feel a number of them are now obsolete. I am wearing these two watches so much that I don’t really wear my others much anymore. I think these two, are two of my best investments, as far as the enjoyment I get out of wearing them.....just awesome!

I bought the 38mm Sapphire with a Rios brown leather strap from Poljot 24. It came in a square matt green wooden box with a big red star on it.
It came inside a week from Germany with a two year guarantee.
I have a Sea-gull Ocean Star Diver and a Sea-gull flying wheel retrograde day date watch which both have Sapphire crystals and came from Sea-gull.com with a one year warranty.
I have two Sea-gull hand wind vintage watches from the 1970s, a St5, and a St5d which has a date function.
I love my flock of five Sea-gulls and will never part with any of them

I enjoyed your showing the strap options. I have other Much costlier watches but enjoy them all including a $20 casio. My favorite watch is my skx007 but that may change once I receive my Seagull. Great video. I’ve always liked this watch but not the premium prices. This one is a convincing alternative. I have no problem wearing a clone/homage as long as it’s well-done. I like the nature of your channel, i.e., affordable watches...for me, I can enjoy collecting at this level and not worry about damaging a very expensive time piece. I feel there's a particular kind of Chinese aesthetic that takes a bit of getting used to. How do you feel about the 42 mm version? Too much....?
I don't like it as much as I love the 38mm, I think the proportions are a bit off on the bigger one.

Is sugess the company who produces seagull watches? I have seen other watches with sugess name on it? Please explain. Also where did you buy this from?

There is a claim from the Sea Gull company, or what looks to be the Sea Gull company web site that the original does not have the glass back side like this one has, the original is supposed to have a different back side design.

There's a fine difference in the winding action that is quite hard to spot. I just stop when I feel it's enough.

I don't think it's an inhouse movement since seagull doesn't make the watch just the movement I believe
I'm planning on getting this watch. But looking at some reviews on the product link in Aliexpress, there are some issues with quality control (hands not resetting, pushers popping off, generally stopping to work).
I was wondering how's your watch going now? Did you ever face any issues with it?
Mine still works perfectly, never had any issue with it.
How's the manual winding and how do you know when to stop? I just got mine and and when I wind it, it feels a bit stiff and for every turn it turns back a bit. Do you also encounter this?
The st19 is a bit stiff to wind, that's perfectly normal. You do have to be careful not to wind it too roughly. When it's done winding it stops and you can break the stem if you go too hard.

We shouldn’t be calling this watch Seagull. It’s not made by Tianjin watch company. It would be more accurate to call it replica of 1963 Seagull prototype.

Well, it's 2020. It's ok to have an opinion of your own. It's ok to base your likes and dislikes on your own taste rather than historical\hysterical factors that have nothing to do with the subject matter.
I find the US, and Uk for that matter, fear of communism ridiculous, mainly its people that have been fed a lie since birth just perpetuating an unwarranted fear. Don’t judge communism by its failures (the collapse of the USSR) look at Vietnam and Cuba, get past the propaganda and you’ll find decent countries with control of their own economy, unlike much of the west. As for the watch, get one, my son bought one and it looks as cool as fuck.
This is not made by seagull the brand of this watch is seaguss.
Im sure this watch is great, not sure the size.
The brand is not seagull its not made in seagull tianjin watch factory.
But the movement is the same as the official seagull one.
To be fair these company's have given people more options on colours and sizes.
Seagull do odd runs of the 1963 so company's like seaguss, red star, HKED buy the movements from seagul and they make the rest. It does not mean its. Bad watch and its hard to say its a fake if its a reissue with sapphire crystal and a display back. At least the movement is from seagull.
But if you really want the official seagull version they are around 400 500 dollars.
My understanding is that they are made under license by Sugess and other brands.
